[Bug 1677777] Re: Missing dep8 tests

2017-11-21 Thread Steve Langasek
I infer that this bug was filed because cobbler-enlist is marked as a
package the Ubuntu Server team is subscribed to.

However:

 - cobbler-enlist is not in main in any supported release.
 - it has not been uploaded to the archive since 2011.
 - it is an Ubuntu native package for interfacing with cobbler, which is no
longer part of the Ubuntu Server platform.
 - it is blocking the update of xmlrpc-c, because Debian has dropped the udeb
for that library, which cobbler-enlist-udeb depends on.

I am therefore going to go ahead and repurpose this bug report as a
removal bug, and remove cobbler-enlist from bionic.

** Summary changed:

- Missing dep8 tests

jobs can now be dropped. LP: #1732795.
- Fixes problem of rfkill being configured while udev is not configured.
  LP: #1647069.
  * debian/rfkill.maintscript: handle removal of obsolete upstart jobs on
upgrade. This change can be dropped after 18.04 LTS.

  - 20_add-GCC-hardening.patch: created to use GCC hardening.
  * debian/rules:
  - Do not use Debian revision as version for final binary.
  - Use build architecture compiler to avoid a FTCBFS. Thanks to
Helmut Grohne . (Closes: #839798)
  * debian/source/:
  - options: removed. This file was pushing all patches to a single file.
  - patch-header: removed. It was creating a "default" header.

[Bug 1733776] [NEW] Request to display the package name along with the synopsis

2017-11-21 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
Public bug reported:

Update manager shows only the synopsis when prompting to update a package,
without including the package name.
For example: "Educational games for small children".

...I have 10 packages installed with games for children. Why doesn't
update-manager just tell me that this is gcompris? The matter gets worse
if you take into account description translations.

Or, "interactive high-level object-oriented language (default version)".
Eh, I have 10 languages installed, just concatenate the package name,
e.g. "python: interactive high-level object-oriented language (default
version)" so that people know what they're updating!

Yes, it's possible to select a package, and then expand the technical
description, and finally you get to see the package name in the
changelog, but that doesn't help much when you need to do that for 30
packages. It should be seen in a glance inside the list box.

[Bug 1733591] Re: new kopanocore fails in autopkgtest in i386 (fails to start at all actually)

2017-11-21 Thread Steve Langasek
I'm attaching a debdiff including the results of my own investigations
into the failing autopkgtests. This gets a lot farther than before,
but:

- on s390x 'kopano-admin -l' fails with an error because there is an endianness
bug in kopanocore:
Wed Nov 22 04:45:22 2017: [warning] Object not found unknown user "匀夀匀吀䔀": 匀夀匀吀䔀
That string is:

$ echo '匀夀匀吀䔀' | iconv -f utf8 -t ucs-2le
SYSTE
$

and that's not a regression so is ignorable.

- on arm64 and ppc64el, kopano-dagent exits 75 instead of 0. I don't
know if this is the reason, but I see the following denial in dmesg:

[ 567.593536] audit: type=1400 audit(1511327924.317:69):
apparmor="DENIED" operation="mknod" profile="/usr/sbin/kopano-dagent"
name="/usr/share/kopano-dagent/python/wraplogger.pyc" pid=9977 comm
="kopano-dagent" requested_mask="c" denied_mask="c" fsuid=0 ouid=0

creating a .pyc file with mknod() is obviously crazy. I don't know
whose bug this is.

aa-disable /usr/sbin/kopano-dagent lets the testsuite finish, so this
evidently is the cause of the kopano-dagent failure.

Since this is a regression on ppc64el, and I didn't get to the bottom of
it, I didn't bother testing on amd64/i386.

[Bug 1732795] Re: Sync rfkill 0.5-2 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2017-11-21 Thread dino99
rfkill (0.5-2ubuntu1) bionic; urgency=low

  * Sync from Debian unstable; all previous changes dropped as obsolete,
the minimum required systemd version shipped in xenial and the upstart
jobs can now be dropped. LP: #1732795.
- Fixes problem of rfkill being configured while udev is not configured.
  LP: #1647069.
  * debian/rfkill.maintscript: handle removal of obsolete upstart jobs on
upgrade. This change can be dropped after 18.04 LTS.

[Bug 1733766] [NEW] Geometry optimization

2017-11-21 Thread Krishnamoorthy Arumugam
Public bug reported:

A new release of NWChem 6.8 is out. When will it be available on Ubuntu?

Please have a look at the NWChem web page, they included some patches
that fixes geometry optimization issue. Here is the link for the web
page.

http://www.nwchem-
sw.org/index.php/Special:AWCforum/st/id1944/NWChem_6.6%3A_bug_in_geometry_optihtml

http://192.101.105.206/index.php/Special:AWCforum/st/id1950/Bug_in_Raman_code.html

I do know about the second bug, but I am getting troubles with the first
one, I was unable to do any geometry optimization, for instance, water
molecule. Even after 900 cycles, still no use.

Thanks.

Like to see a discussion about that, why ubuntu upgrade your browser on

[Bug 1730926] Re: lxc-test-unpriv test failed on s390x instances

2017-11-21 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
I have found the cause.

It was running the cgm command from cgroup-lite package.
But during the last SRU cycle, it got replaced by cgmanager package.

If you switch to the cgroup-lite, the SUT will pass with this test.

** Summary changed:

- lxc-test-unpriv test failed on s390x instances
+ lxc-test-unpriv test failed on s390x instances with cgmanager

** Description changed:

- Update: this can be reproduced with kernel downgraded to 4.4.0-98, see
+ Update2: Switching from cgroup-lite to cgmanager will trigger this
+ failure, see comment #4
+
+ Update1: this can be reproduced with kernel downgraded to 4.4.0-98, see
  comment #1

This test has passed with older kernels (4.4.0-98, 4.4.0-97, 4.4.0-96), but
this time it failed.
Issue can be seen on zKVM, zVM and Ubuntu on LPAR

  Steps:
  1. Install lxc-tests
  2. Run sudo /usr/bin/lxc-test-unpriv

  Result:
    ---
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on none,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error

In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
   dmesg | tail or so.
    umount: /tmp/tmp.uMnoGYXJSH/ovl_symlink_test/overlayfs: not mounted
/usr/sbin/deluser: The user `lxcunpriv' does not exist.
    Path existed
    Using image from local cache
    Unpacking the rootfs

    ---
You just created an Ubuntu container (release=xenial, arch=s390x,
variant=default)

To enable sshd, run: apt-get install openssh-server

For security reason, container images ship without user accounts
    and without a root password.

Use lxc-attach or chroot directly into the rootfs to set a root password
    or create user accounts.

The mount error (bug 1730915) is not the cause, it looks like the failure was

[Bug 1732494] Re: Impossible to manage package after Trusty --> Xenial upgrade

2017-11-21 Thread Ken Sharp
$ cat /var/lib/dpkg/info/snapd.prerm

set -e

if [ -d /run/systemd/system ]; then
systemctl stop snapd.autoimport.service snapd.socket snapd.service
systemctl disable snapd.autoimport.service snapd.socket snapd.service
fi

Seen as this script was doing sod-all, I removed it and could safely
purge the old snapd. Evidently this script was emitting a non-zero exit
status because the unit files have somehow gone astray. It probably
shouldn't do that as it breaks any further jobs on that package.

[Bug 1729337] Re: CIFS errors on 4.4.0-98, but not on 4.4.0-97 with same config

2017-11-21 Thread FedeX
I've done further tests, and found that with kernels 3.13.0-128,
3.13.0-133, 3.13.0-134 and 3.13.0-135, mounting cifs folder using
vers=3.0 (with no security mode manually set, ie: no option sec=ntlmsspi
used) sometimes work and sometimes it doesn't, unfortunately I can't
figure out what is causing this; if anyone has any ideas please let me
know.

It's so weird that sometimes after a fresh boot, I can see that the
mount points from the fstab aren't mounted so if I do either sudo mount
-a or sudo mount -o remount -a it sometimes crashes and sometimes it
works and successfully mount the folders, see below example:

[Bug 1724307] Re: [Dell XPS 13 9360] Mouse cursor flickers with one external monitor connected via HDMI+Wavlink WL-UG39DK1V

2017-11-21 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Stephan Fabel, while I wouldn't say this is fully root caused, due to
how debugging GUI stuff is not my focus, I'll mark this Triaged for now.
However, given Ubuntu is moving away from Unity going forward as per
https://insights.ubuntu.com/2017/04/05/growing-ubuntu-for-cloud-and-iot-
rather-than-phone-and-convergence/ you may want to use a GNOME based
session going forward to avoid this problem.

[Bug 1724307] Re: [Dell XPS 13 9360] Mouse cursor flickers with one external monitor connected via HDMI+Wavlink WL-UG39DK1V

2017-11-21 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Description changed:

When I connect my laptop to my DisplayLink based device with USB (Wavlink
universal USB 3.0 docking station https://www.wavlink.com/en/product/150
WL-UG39DK1V), and connect the Wavlink to my AOC E2775SJ Monitor via HDMI, the
mouse icon flickers as per the following video:
  https://launchpadlibrarian.net/346625588/20171121_131417.mp4

Only if the mouse is on the laptop monitor, it can vanish for several
  minutes, but remains active.

Animations/overlays or typing inside a Chrome window causes the mouse
pointer to flicker more often. If there is no interaction or animation,
the mouse pointer remains static and drawn.

  Monitor 1: 1920 x 1080 - Laptop's Native Monitor
  Monitor 2: 1920 x 1080 - DisplayLink (USB) connected AOC E2775SJ Monitor

This issue doesn't happen if I don't connect my laptop to an external
  monitor via the Wavlink device.

This issue is reproducible with DisplayLink driver 1.4, and 1.3.54.

This issue is reproducible with Ubuntu 16.04, 17.04, and 17.10 x64.

I've reported this to DisplayLink via:
  https://displaylink.org/forum/showthread.php?p=84713#post84713
+
+ WORKAROUND: Use GNOME Flashback (Metacity) session.

WORKAROUND: In the GUI go to All Settings > Screen Display > for the primary
monitor change Rotation from Normal to any of the following:
  Clockwise
  Anti-clockwise
  180 degrees

plugin which was included by default and enabled in Ubuntu. You can file

[Bug 1732179] Re: FTBFS in bionic, test suite failures

2017-11-21 Thread Jeremy Bicha
My understanding is that glom follows GNOME-style version numbering so
we do not want an odd-numbered series. glom isn't really dead but it's
not the Ubuntu Desktop's team responsibility now either.

The problem was that debian/rules still referenced postgresql-9.6. I
have uploaded an update to fix that.

[Bug 1535048] Re: i915 driver seems to cause system crash at random

2017-11-21 Thread Tyson Tan
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1554613 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1554613

On my system:
1) the problem doesn't seem to be related to i915 firmware (which the archlinux
report I mentioned)
2) the problem seems to be triggered by a spike in CPU/GPU stress, it can be
triggered by two kinds of actions in particular: disk partitioning / OpenGl
accelerated applications
3) the problem is fixed when a realtime Linux kernel is being used

I highly suspect this to be a bug in Linux power management for Skylake.

[Bug 1716359] Re: Unplugging headset with audio panel open mutes internal mic

2017-11-21 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
I'm sorry, we seem to be miscommunicating.

It's great that you verified that the bug is fixed. That is, that the
internal mic is muted if you unplug the headphones while the control
centre is open.

There were other concerns about the SRU though - specifically, that the
following items *also* be tested:
- Verifying that plugging/unplugging headphones does the correct thing.
- Verifying that manually selecting a headphone actually switches the mic.
- Checking that output sound works too.

Were those verifications done, in addition to verifying that the bug
cannot be reproduced?

[Bug 1717666] Re: borgbackup: multiple security issues

2017-11-21 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Hello LocutusOfBorg, or anyone else affected,

Accepted borgbackup into zesty-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/borgbackup/1.0.11-0ubuntu1.17.04.2
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-zesty to verification-done-zesty. If it does not fix
the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag
to verification-failed-zesty. In either case, details of your testing
will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1548057] Re: rfkill state is not restored on reboot

2017-11-21 Thread Steve Langasek
This is now handled by the systemd package (/lib/systemd/systemd-rfkill;
/lib/systemd/system/rfkill.service). And yes, it is buggy from what I
can see.

Removing kopanocore from the bionic release pocket and making this a

[Bug 1732795] Re: Sync rfkill 0.5-2 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2017-11-21 Thread Steve Langasek
This must not be a sync because the old Ubuntu version ships upstart
jobs as conffiles which must be cleaned up on upgrade.
