[Bug 1739934] Re: release upgrade failing from zesty to artful

2017-12-23 Thread Markus
background info:

system had been installed under hardy heron and upgraded many times.
Last running OS on this hardware config was 17.10 artful.

Many years have passed and very little of the original hardware hasn't
been replaced. I decided I wanted to clean out the cruft and do a clean
start. So I started with mythbuntu-16.04.3-desktop-amd64.iso from a USB
stick. Additional xfs media disks / boot backups had to be disconnected.
Otherwise the installer would hang. System was installed onto a clean
partition. After the installation was finished and all apt upgrades were
done, release was switched from lts to normal. From there I tried to run
"do-release-upgrade" successively to get to 17.10. The last stage failed
with the error above.

After fixing the mythbuntu-desktop package problem by doing another "apt
dist-upgrade" the final upgrade to 17.10 worked fine. So this may not be
a bug, but rather a package configuration issue. The installer isn't
very good at communicating underlying issues up to the user.

[Bug 1739939] [NEW] Update Ubuntu-4.15.0 config to support Intel Atom devices

2017-12-23 Thread Linuxium
Public bug reported:

After the mainline kernel was patched with 'serdev: Add ACPI support'
(commit 53c7626356c7584e82510d86394a6dcd80525614) and 'serdev: enable
TTY port controller support by default' (commit
22b276a4072087e7b7f1723ccd8a1aa18fab8bbf) and 'Bluetooth: hci_bcm: Add
serdev support' (commit 33cd149e767be9afbab9fcd3d5165a2de62313c8) the
mainline kernel the config needs CONFIG_SERIAL_DEV_BUS=m changing to
CONFIG_SERIAL_DEV_BUS=y and CONFIG_BT_HCIUART_BCM=y to keep sound and BT
working on Intel Atom devices.

Currently the latest Ubuntu config for 4.15 (see 0006-configs-based-on-
Ubuntu-4.15.0-2.3.patch) still only has CONFIG_SERIAL_DEV_BUS=m

The config needs to be update to take into consideration the
implications of the aforementioned patches together with the settings
identified.

[Bug 1739936] [NEW] Screen flickering on Razer Blade Stealth (Late 2017)

2017-12-23 Thread John Stevens
Public bug reported:

Hi. I've recently just received this laptop (it's the 8th gen i7 blade
stealth) and it's plagued with screen flickering. I've tried installing
the latest kernel with the proper i915 firmware. I've also tried Arch
Linux, and had no luck there. So, I've settled back with Ubuntu and
installed the 18.04 Bionic Beaver Daily ISO.

Description:Ubuntu Bionic Beaver (development branch)
Release:18.04
Kernel: 4.15.0-997-generic

I'm not really sure what would be causing the issue. I'll happily use
this as a test-bed to help improve Ubuntu! Thanks for your time.

2017-12-23 Thread Steve Langasek
This is a failure to configure shim-signed because the debconf frontend
started by gnome-software has exited, leaving the socket behind. This
is a bug in gnome-software; reassigning.

[Bug 1739934] Re: release upgrade failing from zesty to artful

2017-12-23 Thread Markus
system needed another "apt dist-upgrade" before "do-release-upgrade"
would succeed. The solution became clear after seeing this in main.log
and investigating the package:

2017-12-23 19:57:21,565 ERROR Dist-upgrade failed: 'The package
'mythbuntu-desktop' is marked for removal but it is in the removal
blacklist.'

[Bug 1725384] Re: On touch screens, the apps icon in the dock does not open when touched

2017-12-23 Thread PJSingh5000
Note: if you touch "Activities" first, and then touch the Applications
Grid Icon, then the dash showing all application icons appears without
issue.

However, if you have the dock set set to "always show", and you happen
to touch the Applications Grid Icon (before tapping the "Activities"
label at the top left) then this issue appears.

[Bug 1739765] Re: xt_TCPMSS buffer overflow bug

2017-12-23 Thread Denys Fedoryshchenko
Yes, already queued by Eric Dumazet in all stable since report in April
http://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/746618/

Yes, i did, but troubleshooting done and fix issued by Eric Dumazet.
Also there is chance exist that someone used it for malicious purposes "in
wild" at that moment, as it appeared at peak time on ISP, in specific network
with many users, while exactly same setup on other locations didn't had this
issue. That was reason to enable KASAN and to search for it.

No CVE as far as i know, i just don't know how to do that. Not sure if
Eric or netfilter developers (for example Pablo Neira Ayuso) filled
anything.

[Bug 1739789] Re: package auditd (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2017-12-23 Thread Seth Arnold
Exit code 6 can happen if the audit daemon can't parse its configuration:
https://sources.debian.org/src/audit/1:2.8.2-1/src/auditd.c/#L674

The routine to parse the configuration appears to have copious debug logging:
https://sources.debian.org/src/audit/1:2.8.2-1/src/auditd-config.c/#L321

Did you get anything in /var/log/audit/audit.log that could explain what
went wrong?

Thanks

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment to this bug report it
seems that there may be a problem with your hardware. I'd recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

[Bug 1734147] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 corrupting BIOS - many LENOVO laptops models

2017-12-23 Thread jcdutton
There might be a way to fix this in software, without the need for a hardware
motherboard replacement.
So, my advice is be patient, and wait for the official fix.

[Bug 1739347] Re: Nepojmenovaná složka 3

2017-12-23 Thread Seth Arnold
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your
report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can
better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For
help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally,
in the report please include:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System ->
About Ubuntu.
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by
checking in Synaptic.
3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide
variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .
Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make
your bug report much more complete. Thanks!

[Bug 1734147] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 corrupting BIOS - many LENOVO laptops models

2017-12-23 Thread Kenan Gutić
Same happens on Mediacom Smartbook 14 Ultra (M-SB14UC).

Can't save bios settings or boot USB. Is there a fix, since I needed to
install Windows from USB on my machine?

** Description changed:

  SRU Justification

Impact: Many users are reporting issues with bios corruption with 17.10.
This seems to stem from enabling the intel-spi-* drivers in the kernel,
which don't appear to be ready for use on end-user machines.

  Fix: Disable this driver.

Test Case: Fix has been verified by our HWE team on affected hardware.

Regression Potential: Minimal, it's unlikely anyone is actually doing
  anything which requires this driver.

  ---

  Hi all,

Basically on Lenovo Y50-70 after installing Ubuntu 17.10, many users
  reported a corrupted BIOS.

It's not possible to save new settings in BIOS anymore and after
rebooting, the system starts with the old settings.

Moreover (and most important) USB booting is not possible anymore since
USB is not recognized. It's very serious, since our machines do not have
  a CDROM.

Lenovo forums at the moment are full of topics regading this issue.

  Thank you!!

   UPDATE (22/12/2017)

LENOVO machines affected so far (please add your affected model to this
  list):

are aware of issue but are not providing details.

[Bug 1739917] [NEW] Please merge orca after source package rename

2017-12-23 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

I renamed gnome-orca to orca in Debian. I am letting the package
autosync so that it will make it through Ubuntu's new queue. After that,
we need to copy the remaining gnome-orca Ubuntu diff on to the orca
package.

I am blocking this package in bionic-proposed to prevent a regression
until that is done.

On second thought, I guess this bug is a bit unnecessary since the
'orca' binary package will need to be manually promoted to main anyway.

you boot the system and check with "lsmod | grep mlx4" that the module
is loaded?

[Bug 1448164] Re: runit cannot be installed (Unable to connect to Upstart: Failed to connect to socket /com/ubuntu/upstart: Connection refused)

2017-12-23 Thread Krellan
Although not strictly Ubuntu, I can confirm this bug happens on Linux
Mint 18.3 "Sylvia", Cinnamon 64-bit. This helped me fix it:

sudo apt-get purge runit
sudo apt-get purge git-daemon-run
sudo apt-get install -f

It is not necessary to purge git-all or git packages. Keep the rest,
only get rid of runit and git-daemon-run. After doing this, Git works
fine on my system, and apt-get is clean.

[Bug 1575053] Re: Please move snap user data from "$HOME/snap" to "$HOME/.snap" (or to "$HOME/.local/share/snap" in accordance with the XDG spec)

2017-12-23 Thread Chris Meyers
+1 for moving the snap directory to a more standard place and hiding it.
The way I see it, you have two choices for a folder like this (and all
other software I use conforms to this):

1. Make it non-configurable and hide it in a standard, widely accepted location
(~/., .local/, .config/)
2. Make it user-configurable.

Or you could get really crazy and do both.

But creating a visible, non-configurable folder directly in the user's
home dir is just plain bad. You'll get nothing but complaints. People
who don't like it there or want it spelled with an upper case 'S' or
want to call it 'Applications' or something. This is actually worse than
littering the file system with loop devices. :-P

[Bug 1730958] Re: nuvoton-cir not working after boot

2017-12-23 Thread Charles
not sure if it helps, but please /proc/ioports below. There is a
difference between kernel 4.13 (not working) and kernel 4.5.7 (working):

kernel 4.5.7 (working):
  0220-022e : nuvoton-cir
  02e0-02ee : nuvoton-cir

kernel 4.13 before suspend and before module reload (not working):
  03e0-03ee : nuvoton-cir
  0a20-0a2e : nuvoton-cir-wake

kernel 4.13 after suspend and module reload (working):
  0220-022e : nuvoton-cir-wake
  02e0-02ee : nuvoton-cir

Maybe resource allocation is causing issues here

[Bug 1739905] [NEW] kernel update never finishes with proprietary nvidia

2017-12-23 Thread Damon Lynch
Public bug reported:

While I have the Nvidia proprietary driver installed, am currently
running the monitor off of the CPU's built-in graphics adapter. Two GTX
1070s are present.

The kernel update always gets stuck at the DKMS stage, e.g.:

run-parts: executing /etc/kernel/postinst.d/dkms 4.13.0-21-generic
/boot/vmlinuz-4.13.0-21-generic

When the monitor is plugged into one of the Nvidia adapters, the kernel
updates as expected.
