[Bug 1747463] Re: kernel crashes unless IOMMU is disabled on Ryzen 1800X

2018-02-05 Thread Peridot
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected bionic

** Description changed:

I'm on a Ryzen 1800X and Biostar B350GT5 on bionic kubuntu.

Lots of AMD-Vi logged events and I get irq crashes or acpi hangups with
a normal boot. How I it to work is to disable IOMMU in the BIOS and add
"iommu=soft" to the kernel booting options in grub.

linux can then detect everything properly (all cores) and I've had zero
crashes. The only issue is that it's using software IOMMU.

Alternatively it boots with the kernel option "acpi=off" but only
  detects a single core/thread.

  I attached a kernel log.

I believe(d) this might be related to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1671360
  and https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1690085

packages are not in a consistent state that is safe to dist-upgrade
against, and should only be used with caution.

Good catch, we need this for Artful as well, since the commit just made
4.14, so, we need to backport to 4.13.

Would you mind doing it, please?

  [Impact]

It is not possible to resize NVME partitions in the Ubiquity installer.
NVME devices have an unusual device format, specifically e.g. /dev/nvme0n1p1
that has two 'sections' that potentially look like partitions.

Based on the error message, it seems that this device name is being
parsed incorrectly and it attempts to use the device path /dev/nvme0n1
  instead of /dev/nvme0n1p1

** See attachment (screenshot) took in action :
  - resize.png
  - resize_impossible.png

  [Test Case]

You can test this using qemu and a virtual NVME device. If you toggle
the same device/partition between a virtual SCSI/IDE and an NVME device
  - the issue appears and disappears.

Commands you can use to replicate the issue - unpack netboot.tar.gz into
  the local directory and then

  dd if=/dev/zero of=nvme.disk bs=1M count=16384

  NVME:
  qemu-system-x86_64 -drive file=nvme.disk,if=none,id=drv0,format=raw -device
nvme,drive=drv0,serial=foo -enable-kvm -smp 2 -m 1024 -kernel
xenial/ubuntu-installer/amd64/linux -initrd
xenial/ubuntu-installer/amd64/initrd.gz

virtio-blk-pci,scsi=off,bus=pci.0,addr=0x7,drive=drv0,id=virtio-disk0,bootindex=1
 -enable-kvm -smp 2 -m 1024 -kernel ubuntu-installer/amd64/linux -initrd
ubuntu-installer/amd64/initrd.gz

  [Regression Potential]

   * Low risk of regression, with this patch, partman, will be more robust and
align with what disk_name() in the kernel does
(linux.git/tree/block/partition-generic.c). It is sufficient to check
whether the last character is a digit.

  * The patch may also fixes (or at least prevent for the future) other
potential similar devices issue and not explicitly fixing and/or benefit
  NVMe device types.

Your CPU supports x64 as per AMD -> https://www.amd.com/en-

Did you checksum the ISO you downloaded? If so and it passed, you can make an
ISO of what you burned and checksum this to confirm it burned correctly via a
terminal:
sudo dd if=/dev/sdX of=file.iso

Where X is the letter for your cd drive.

linux-image-extra .deb packages.

Thanks in advance!

** Description changed:

  [Impact]

It is not possible to resize NVME partitions in the Ubiquity installer.
NVME devices have an unusual device format, specifically e.g. /dev/nvme0n1p1
that has two 'sections' that potentially look like partitions.

Based on the error message, it seems that this device name is being

  [Test Case]

You can test this using qemu and a virtual NVME device. If you toggle
the same device/partition between a virtual SCSI/IDE and an NVME device
  - the issue appears and disappears.

Commands you can use to replicate the issue - unpack netboot.tar.gz into
  the local directory and then

  dd if=/dev/zero of=nvme.disk bs=1M count=16384

ubuntu-installer/amd64/initrd.gz

  [Regression Potential]

   * Low risk of regression, with this patch, partman, will be more robust and
align with what disk_name() in the kernel does
(linux.git/tree/block/partition-generic.c). It is sufficient to check
whether the last character is a digit.

  * The patch may also fixes (or at least prevent for the future) other
potential similar devices issue and not explicitly fixing and/or benefit
  NVMe device types.

  [Other Info]

  * Debian upstream fix :

[Bug 1747463] [NEW] kernel crashes unless IOMMU is disabled on Ryzen 1800X

2018-02-05 Thread Peridot
Public bug reported:

[Bug 1714518] Re: GTK+3 doesn't show FUSE/GVFS, smb (SMB/CIFS), sftp (SFTP/SSH) network shares in file chooser

2018-02-05 Thread Chris Rainey
OK so I'm _really_ glad to see the work on this bug progressing
and, as such, I've been attempting to "add myself" to this bug's
"affected user" list. However, I have _not_ been able to do so for the
past 2-weeks with the error message: "timeout, please try again later".
Does anybody know how to create a bug-report for Launchpad, itself?

2018-02-05 Thread Brian Murray
Hello ZdravkoG, or anyone else affected,

Accepted ubuntu-release-upgrader into artful-proposed. The package will
build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/ubuntu-release-upgrader/1:17.10.10 in a few hours, and then in the
-proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-artful to verification-done-artful. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-artful. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at

[Bug 1747460] [NEW] [MIR] py-macaroon-bakery,

2018-02-05 Thread Andres Rodriguez
Public bug reported:

py-macaroon-bakery
==

1. Availability: all

2. Rationale:
Macaroons is a new form of authorization mechanism. The macaroon bakery builds
on pymacaroons, which allows it working at a higher level.

In order for MAAS (and other projects) to support macaroon based
authentication, this needs to be in main. This will allow projects to
support remote/centralized authentication based on macaroons.

3. Security:
No CVE's

4. QA:
0 bugs in debian/ubuntu

5. UI standards:
None

6. Dependencies:

Dependencies in universe:
 - python3-pymacaroons (MIR LP: #1746772)
 - python3-nacl (MIR LP: #1746772)
 - python3-protobuf
 - python3-rfc3339

7. Standards:
No lintian errors.

Packaged with debhelper. Source format is 3.0 (quilt)

Standards version: 4.4.1

8. Maintenance:
Easy.

9. Background information:
This is a required dependency to implement third party/centralized
authentication alongside with pymacaroons. This is a new dependency that's
required by MAAS.

[Bug 1747426] Re: Error downloading box trusty64 metadata

2018-02-05 Thread Dan Watkins
It looks like Hashicorp have discontinued the atlas.hashicorp.com API
endpoints used by the version of Vagrant in every Ubuntu release (in
favour of vagrantcloud.com).

I've confirmed that this is fixed in the version of Vagrant in bionic-
proposed:

# vagrant box add 'ubuntu/trusty64'
==> box: Loading metadata for box 'ubuntu/trusty64'
box: URL: https://vagrantcloud.com/ubuntu/trusty64
==> box: Adding box 'ubuntu/trusty64' (v20180125.0.0) for provider: virtualbox
box: Downloading:
https://vagrantcloud.com/ubuntu/boxes/trusty64/versions/20180125.0.0/providers/virtualbox.box
...

I'm looking in to this further.

[Bug 1744722] Re: Unknown bad source brings up during 'zesty' to 'artful' upgrade and It break the process

2018-02-05 Thread Julian Andres Klode
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ Upgrades from unsupported releases do not work if they have some third-party
repositories in their sources.list, for example a repository with "stable" as
the suite. u-r-u generates a new sources.list with an Ubuntu entry for "stable".
+
+ [Test case]
+ On a zesty system, add
+
+ deb https://example.com/3rd-party/deb/ stable main
+
+ to the sources.list and try to upgrade to artful. It will generate an
+ entry:
+
+ deb https://archive.ubuntu.com/ stable main
+
+ and fail.
+
+ Now run do-release-upgrade --proposed and check that it does not do
+ that.
+
+ Alternatively, just rely on the autopkgtest test case testing that.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ This affects release upgrades, and if broken, might prevent some release
updates. It seems unlikely though: The change just checks that the new
distribution of a sources.list entry is valid before writing it out.
+
+ [Original bug report]
+
During update after release 'zesty' 'end of life' strange error appear:

E:The repository 'http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu stable Release' does
  not have a Release file.

This error prevent upgrade process. There is no entry like
'http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu stable Release' in my 'sources.list'. I have
no idea where this entry comes from. During regular packages update try, only
appears error messages directly related to 'end of life' release state. No
error like above. I am not sure, but it seems like
'http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu stable Release' is wrongly formatted and have
no idea where this comes from as all. Here is my sources list (as is now). As
could be seen from the sources list my install is from 2014. Over the years I
make upgrade after 'end of life' release few times without any problems. Now is
the first time I have such issue.
  Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1747148] Re: when i update it gives errors

2018-02-05 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We understand the difficulties you
are facing, but it is better to raise problems you are having in the
support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are
uncertain if they are bugs. You can also find help posting your problem
in the support forum of your local Ubuntu's community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at http://askubuntu.com. For help on
reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 1569925] Re: Shutdown hang on 16.04 with iscsi targets

2018-02-05 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Hello Matt, this is part of the SRU procedure
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates). For the kernel, the SRU
is a bit different
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Dev/StablePatchFormat,
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/StableReleaseCadence). Now that the bug
has been marked as "Fix Committed" is means that the patch has been
merged in the "master-next" branch of every one of the following Ubuntu
versions:

Changed in linux (Ubuntu Artful):
status: In Progress → Fix Committed
Changed in linux (Ubuntu Xenial):
status: In Progress → Fix Committed
Changed in linux (Ubuntu Trusty):
status: In Progress → Fix Committed

When the new kernel package is built, it will be placed into -proposed
for each of the Ubuntu versions and you will be able to test the kernel
and provide feedback here. Since I was the one that fixed it, I'll
verify each of the kernels to make sure it fixed the issue. After
verification, and at least 7 days in -proposed, the packages shall be
moved to -updates.

Hope it helps you understand the fixing steps. Cheers o/

Just tried : bootloop in K4.15 without radeon.dpm=0

I still have to check the advise #10 from Christopher about
DebuggingKernel. But I guess I'll fall in another problem : on my
system, /tmp is on another Disk/partition than /, so I think I won't be
able to get the initramfs.debug file that is asked.

[Bug 1746482] Re: mount.cifs stopped working with protocol version>1 and sec=ntlm

2018-02-05 Thread Dariusz Gadomski
After the preliminary analysis my understanding is as follows:
since the change found thanks to the bisection the behaviour change in a way
that if an unsupported security mode is requested it results in an error
(invalid argument in this case).

Looks like NTLM was not supported even before the change in question, it
was just unnoticed since it was silently mapped to NTLMSSP.

So no actual regression in functionality is observed, but rather
regression in UI being less restrictive before the kernel change.

Ah, ok, I thought it was a bug with XPS13-AND-BIONIC-AND-K4.13.
I installed in my XPS13 Trusty and I have no issue with the touchpad. Maybe I
didn't wait enough to make sure F6-OSD is bug-free. Maybe these 2 problems are
only related to live-USB ?

After having found a linux distribution (Linux Mint 17.3 xfce) working on my

I would like so much install a classic ubuntu on my one-year computer.
If you have any hint, please let me know.

Can you also attach [6] to that bug, or better, propose a merge proposal
on mutter gitlab for that?

[Bug 1730174] Re: [artful] mouse clicks are completely ignored both in Gnome's gdm and once logged in to the desktop

2018-02-05 Thread Enigma
Ehh... Not really worth the trouble at this point as I've resolved it
myself by just disabling Wayland.

Since Wayland won't be default in 18.04 anyway, there's a good chance
the issue will be fixed by 18.10.

I've posted the same solution on an Ask Ubuntu question so it may help
others.
