The issue is also not present on my ThinkPad X300 with an Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU L7100 @ 1.20GHz. Has anyone found the bug being present on a processor older than i3? [Bug 1747215] Re: hard drive failure
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it. Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally, in the report please include: 1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System -> About Ubuntu. 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by checking in Synaptic. 3) What happened and what you expected to happen. The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures . Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make your bug report much more complete. [Bug 1747215] Re: hard drive failure
Yes, this does look the hard drive is possibly failing in some way. You might verify that the cabling is seated properly as well as try a different cable to ensure it is not bad. It should be noted looking at your JournalErrors log, that the firmware in your system is also likely buggy. You should probably check your hardware vendor for firmware updates. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1747215 Title: hard drive failure To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1747215/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1711452] Re: grub.cfg falls back to 'text' video mode on UEFI which is not supported
Junien, no, this can't be worked around with a kernel boot option. Are you experiencing this when booting via MAAS? MAAS does its own grub.cfg management, and would need to be fixed separately for this issue. You can work around this in the grub.cfg on a given installed system by running: sudo sed -i -e'/linux_gfx_mode/s/text/auto/' /etc/grub.d/10_linux && sudo update-grub -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1711452 Title: grub.cfg falls back to 'text' video mode on UEFI which is not supported To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1711452/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This bug is really a duplicate of bug 1505409, but is being kept separate so that the bots can automatically deduplicate new bug reports as they come in. New reports will match this bug automatically, instead of a human having to point them to bug 1505409. [Bug 1704130] Re: [MIR] papi
I reviewed papi version 5.6.0-1 as checked into bionic. This should not be considered a full security audit; in fact I stopped part-way through the process after discovering sufficient grounds to decide that the Ubuntu security team does not want to support this package at this time. Perhaps with some cleanup we can re-address this package for a future cycle. I believe there is a mistake in the Debian packaging: - 'grep -C5 recipe' on the build log shows several failed build targets, but the build as a whole does not fail. Here's some of the issues I found while reading the sources. Many of these may not be security issues but suggest that PAPI was not intended to be used on computers that may have malicious actors. - xscale_iresume() buffer overflow of stack variable pmc. - scan_prtconf() in ./src/solaris-ultra.c uses tmpnam(3) rather than mkstemp(3). - _mx_init_component() in ./src/components/mx/linux-mx.c executes CWD-relative program if mx_counters isn't in PATH - find_pmu_type_by_name() in ./src/libpfm4/lib/pfmlib_powerpc_perf_event.c may overflow its buffer if a caller provides a too-long name. Callers are dynamic enough that this needs its own check. - find_pmu_type_by_name() in ./src/libpfm4/lib/pfmlib_intel_x86_perf_event.c may overflow its buffer if a caller provides a too-long name. Callers are dynamic enough that this needs its own check. - find_pmu_type_by_name() in ./src/libpfm4/lib/pfmlib_amd64_perf_event.c may overflow its buffer if a caller provides a too-long name. Callers are dynamic enough that this needs its own check. - pfmlib_build_event_pattrs() in ./src/libpfm4/lib/pfmlib_common.c runs the risk of an integer overflow in a malloc() call, calloc() would be safer - main() in ./src/utils/papi_cost.c exposes an integer overflow malloc() call directly to the command line arguments. - main() in ./src/utils/papi_multiplex_cost.c exposes an integer overflow malloc() call directly to the command line arguments. - main() in ./src/utils/papi_command_line.c exposes an integer overflow malloc() call directly to the command line arguments. - uninitialized variable 'nr' in src/perfctr-2.7.x/usr.lib/x86.c -- an #else #error case would be very kind There's many cases of malloc(foo * bar); in the sources; a few I inspected looked safe, a few weren't obvious, and some were obviously dangerous (as above). Basically all of these should be replaced with calloc() to avoid having to do further analysis. There's a few cases of system() or popen() in the sources. A few of the uses looked fine, a few looked like they deserved more hardening. I don't think any outright need converting to execve() or libpipeline, but I didn't inspect the callers sufficiently to be sure. It appeared to be a recurring pattern to use sprintf() to a buffer without checking for success; many cases did appear to constrain referenced strings to fit within the available buffer space, but the end result may not always be well-formed. The full cppcheck output is 92 lines. Even after removing everything with 'test' and 'example' and a few others, there's ~25 issues that look like they need investigating. Here's the ones that look like they may be legitimate issues: [I've removed ones that looked safe at the moment, too, but reference them in the next paragraph.] [src/components/perfctr_ppc/ppc64_events.c:336]: (error) Memory leak: ntv_evt_info [src/components/perfmon2/perfmon.c:601]: (error) Memory leak: newctx [src/components/perfmon2/perfmon.c:601]: (error) Memory leak: load_args [src/components/perfmon2/perfmon.c:757]: (error) Uninitialized variable: buf [src/aix.c:1098]: (error) Resource leak: map_f [src/papi_libpfm3_events.c:70]: (error) Possible null pointer dereference: mask_values [src/linux-memory.c:248]: (error) Resource leak: f [src/papi_internal.c:357]: (error) Common realloc mistake: '_papi_native_events' nulled but not freed upon failure [src/papi_internal.c:400]: (error) Common realloc mistake: '_papi_errlist' nulled but not freed upon failure [src/papi_libpfm3_events.c:69]: (error) Possible null pointer dereference: mask_values [src/papi_preset.c:376]: (error) Buffer is accessed out of bounds. ** Summary changed: - Bluefish asks to download files from Nautilus FTP window + Double-click doesn't open default application ** Description changed: Ubuntu 18.04 Nautilus 1:3.26.0-0ubuntu1 - Bluefish 2.2.9-1 + Bluefish 2.2.10 - When I open a file from a FTP server browsed with Nautilus, Bluefish - asks to download the file instead of open it as it was in the previous - versions. + When I open a .php file from a FTP server browsed with Nautilus, Chrome + is opened instead of the default application Bluefish. Steps to reproduce: - 1. Connect to an FTP server via Nautilus - 2. Open the file with Nautilus - 3. Nautilus will ask for the download location + 1. Connect to an FTP server via Nautilus + 2a. Double-click on a .php file: chrome opens and the file is downloaded + 2b. Right click and select 'open with' and then Bluefish: the file is opened in bluefish as expected - If I try to open the same file with gedit it works well, that's why I - think is Bluefish bug. + So, on the double-click from Nautilus the wrong app (chrome!) is opened + even if the .php files are associated with bluefish. [Bug 1747827] [NEW] alt-tab no longer lets me switch between terminal windows
Public bug reported: I typically use multiple terminal windows, rather than tabs within terminal windows, because I find that the context of the visible part of the overlapping windows is highly useful. Up to 17.04, I could use alt-tab to switch between different windows that were each running a terminal instance. As of 17.10, I can only switch between "the current terminal focus window" and "other apps" -- other terminal windows are not part of the alt-tab "ring" Especially going back and forth between the two latest terminal windows with a single alt-tab is crucial to a productive workflow, and all OS-es I've used have supported this for the last 20 years. Except now, I'm expected to Alt-tab a few times to get "back" to terminal, then press arrow-down and arrow-right to select another terminal window. Wot? That's not helpful. This fundamentally breaks my workflow, and is not something I can live with. [Bug 1736375] Re: Graphics Nvidia bugs_ HP zbook g3
Amr, thank you for taking the time to report this and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, this report didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. The behavior you expected, and 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Thank you for your help. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-1.24 ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1736375 Title: Graphics Nvidia bugs_ HP zbook g3 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1736375/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
