[Bug 1748122] [NEW] incorrect tools.conf template is shipped with Ubuntu
Public bug reported: The tools.conf template shipped with Ubuntu (debian/local/tools.conf) is incorrect. It's current contents: bindir = "/usr/bin" do not mean anything to open-vm-tools - it's not interpreted in any way by vmtoolsd. Moreover, on the first launch this content is cleared by a piece of code doing a "config upgrade". I believe replacing it with a more meaningful content is necessary. ** Affects: open-vm-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: sts ** Tags added: sts -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1748122 Title: incorrect tools.conf template is shipped with Ubuntu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/open-vm-tools/+bug/1748122/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1718227] Re: replacement of ifupdown with netplan needs integration for /etc/network/if{up, down}.d scripts
FYI: The discussion in https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=889010 nicely outlined that we rely on those hooks in chrony. That makes having them working critical for 18.04 to have it working correctly for late or changing network topology. We (cyphermox and me) discussed how I could convert the chrony hooks but found not clear solution. It ended in the app needing to listen for netlink events, but we can't/won't do that for all the affected packages. That said implementing sort of a generic solution a package can plug into gets more and more important. ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #889010 https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=889010 ** Changed in: chrony (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Critical ** Changed in: chrony (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed ** Changed in: chrony (Ubuntu) Milestone: None => ubuntu-18.03 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1718227 Title: replacement of ifupdown with netplan needs integration for /etc/network/if{up,down}.d scripts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/aiccu/+bug/1718227/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 1734021] Re: No volume icon
By default the volume icon is hidden since most DEs have a very visible icon already on the desktop. However if you want individual app based control you can use the plugin preferences to change the default look and feel. >From the headerbar button or global menu depending upon which DE you are using Choose plugins. Click on alternative toolbar and click the bottom left icon to open the plugin preferences for the applet. There is a tick box to display the volume icon Restart rhythmbox and the icon will be displayed. On 8 Feb 2018 01:36, "Christopher M. [Bug 1748095] [NEW] Non-root user can reboot machine from the command line
Public bug reported: Open a gnome-terminal as your normal user and type 'reboot' and ENTER. The PC reboots immediately, losing all unsaved work for all users (this is the case on both my VM and laptop running Ubuntu 18.04, so I don't think it's a weird configuration issue). In the old days, didn't you have to be root (or sudoed) for this command to work? While we're on the subject, wouldn't it be nicer if the reboot command (ie when run as root) asked you to confirm before executing, pointing out that all unsaved work for all users will be lost? Note that you can't reboot a server if you are logged in via ssh as a non-root user: Failed to set wall message, ignoring: Interactive authentication required. Failed to reboot system via logind: Interactive authentication required. Failed to open /dev/initctl: Permission denied Failed to talk to init daemon. [Bug 1747711] Re: file mis-identifies modern executables as application/x-sharedlib
** Information type changed from Private Security to Public Security ** Description changed: file doesn't recognize modern PIE (Position Independent Executable) x86 executables as such, reporting them as “application/x-sharedlib”. Consequently, only non-PIE executables can be opened in graphical file managers such as nautilus. This may cause a minor (?) security risk if a commonly-published workaround is attempted. Also affects: nautilus (and likely other graphical file managers like those on Lubuntu) - because nautilus uses mime-type to determine if a file is executable, double-click to run a program no longer works. [Bug 1748070] [NEW] Bionic update to v4.14.18 stable release
Public bug reported: SRU Justification Impact: The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or a minimally backported form of that patch. The v4.14.18 upstream stable patch set is now available.
