Since the trigger being run is that of the currently-installed plymouth package, it is not guaranteed to be sufficient to fix the version of the package in 18.04. + + [Test case] + 1. Install plymouth-themes-ubuntu-text from artful-proposed. + 2. Run a release upgrade with each of update-manager -d, do-release-upgrade -d, and apt-get dist-upgrade (the last after manually changing sources.list). + 3. Verify that in each case, the upgrade completes successfully, with no errors about out-of-order trigger configuration. + + [Regression potential] + noawait triggers have been supported in dpkg since 1.16.1, which is older than the version in precise (https://manpages.debian.org/jessie/dpkg-dev/deb-triggers.5.en.html). A noawait trigger is considered appropriate whenever the triggered package does not need to block the triggering package. There is no reason for a plymouth theme package to need to block configuration of an essential package in this case. noawait triggers are well-exercised in the distro now, so the risk of regression from this change should be low. + + There is unfortunately not a known reproducer for the original bug, so + the test case, while it should guard against regressions, is not strong + confirmation that the bug is fixed. + + + [Original description] Failure during upgrade attempt from Xubuntu 17.10 to Xubuntu 18.04 ProblemType: Package DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: plymouth-theme-ubuntu-text 0.9.2-3ubuntu17 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.13.0-32.35-generic 4.13.13 Uname: Linux 4.13.0-32-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.7-0ubuntu3.7 Architecture: amd64 Date: Sun Feb 18 23:41:49 2018 DefaultPlymouth: /usr/share/plymouth/themes/xubuntu-logo/xubuntu-logo.plymouth ErrorMessage: dependency problems - leaving triggers unprocessed InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-10-24 (118 days ago) InstallationMedia: Xubuntu 17.10 "Artful Aardvark" - Release amd64 (20171017.1) Lsusb: - Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub - Bus 001 Device 004: ID 8087:0a2a Intel Corp. - Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0bda:0129 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. [Bug 1750465] Re: upgrade attempting to process triggers out of order (package plymouth-theme-ubuntu-text 0.9.2-3ubuntu17 failed to install/upgrade: dependency problems - leaving triggers unprocessed)
Some thoughts here: - bash is shown as being unpacked immediately before this. bash is an essential package. - the package which triggers the plymouth theme packages is base-files, which ships /etc/lsb-release. base-files is also an essential package. - apt tries to handle Essential packages specially, by configuring them as quickly as possible. - the plymouth packages use 'interest' triggers, not 'interest-noawait' triggers, so the base-files package can't be configured until after the plymouth triggers have been run. - dpkg doesn't let the triggers be run before the dependencies are configured. I think it's very likely that this is a package manager bug, since I don't see any dependency loops anywhere involving lsb-release and plymouth-themes-ubuntu-text. However, we can probably also work around it by making the plymouth triggers use interest-noawait instead, so that they do not block the configuration of essential packages. I also think this warrants an SRU, since the version of the theme package being triggered may be the old version during a release upgrade. ** Also affects: plymouth (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: kubuntu-settings (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1750465 Title: upgrade attempting to process triggers out of order (package plymouth- theme-ubuntu-text 0.9.2-3ubuntu17 failed to install/upgrade: dependency problems - leaving triggers unprocessed) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/1750465/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1757218] Re: QCA9377 isn't being recognized sometimes
The behavior appears to be much better with the kernel version 4.16-rc6. However, I think this is not 100% solved, as the following error is still (but now rarely) happening when disconnecting from a network: [ 5934.740004] ath10k_pci :02:00.0: failed to install key for vdev 0 peer xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx: -110 [ 5934.740010] wlp2s0: failed to remove key (0, xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx) from hardware (-110) With that MAC address being from the router. I believe this error, when happening on shutdown or reboot, is the source of the problem, as when that messages are not shown (apparently) the error doesn't happens. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1757218 Title: QCA9377 isn't being recognized sometimes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1757218/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1757301] Re: Brightness, contrast issues (possibly NVidia specific) in totem and VLC
Installing vdpau-va-driver is only a workaround, and also one that we do not wish to include in normal Ubuntu because it is known to be buggy and cause performance problems for some GPUs. This bug remains a valid bug for the case where vdpau-va-driver is not installed. As such bug 1727232 may very well be related. If you are happy with the workaround of installing vdpau-va-driver and do not wish to pursue this bug further then it will expire automatically after 60 days. Re: [Bug 1757301] Re: Brightness, contrast issues (possibly NVidia specific)
Clearly you did not bother to read my complete report. If you had you would not have linked to a completely unrelated existing issue. I clearly stated that installing vdpau-va-driver solved the problem. This is a missing dependency issue. I know you folks do your best, but you need to understand that not everybody with something useful to offer has the free time to familiarise themselves with the minutiae of Canonical's bug reporting guidelines. I had a similar problem with my Dell Latitude 5289 using Ubuntu 17.10. After trying different things, I got it to work by using hdajackretask. I got a clue from norteo on this thread: https://askubuntu.com/questions/926590/headphone-not-working-on- ubuntu-17-04-dell-xps-15 To get it to work for my specific setup, I ran hdajackretask, checked the box to "show unconnected pins," selected "override" for pin 0x21, and set it to "Headphone." [Bug 1745483] Re: [MIR] uvloop
I reviewed uvloop version 0.8.1+ds1-1 as checked into bionic. This shouldn't be considered a full security audit but rather a quick gauge of maintainability. - uvloop provides a thin shim around libuv1 for Python asyncio programming. - No CVE history in our database - Build-Depends: debhelper, dh-python, libuv1-dev, cython3, python3-all-dev, python3-all-dbg, python3-setuptools, python3-pytest, python3-aiohttp, - Does not do cryptography - Does extensive networking - Does not daemonize - pre/post inst/rm sections auto-generated - No initscript / systemd unit files - No dbus services - No setuid files - No binaries in PATH - No sudo fragments - No udev rules - Tests run during the build; scope not investigated - No cronjobs - Some build warnings, slightly messier than one might expect - Does not itself spawn subprocesses, but provides wrappers for programs, including unsafe versions. - Memory management looked careful - Does not itself open files - Error logging looked careful - Uses PYTHONASYNCIODEBUG variable to control debugging - Does not itself do cryptography - Extensive networking, but mostly as a thin shim to libuv1 - No privileged portions of code visible - No temporary files - No WebKit use - No JavaScript use - No PolicyKit use I've never read code quite like this before: it's not just Python, it's not just C to implement a Python module. A recent bugfix to address UDP problems threw away the libuv1 bindings that had been used and re-wrote functionality -- changes of this scope would be very difficult for us to implement ourselves. However, the code appears to be professionally programmed. Errors are handled or reported and comments are high-quality. Security team ACK for promoting uvloop to main. [Bug 1754218] Re: [regression] gdm 3.27 shows blank login screen on primary monitor when two monitors are connected on a hybrid intel/nvidia system
I'll try and describe the gdm login screen behaviour in more detail: 1. With no external monitor, the gdm login screen is shown as expected. This is true whether I unplug the external monitor after gdm is running or boot up without it plugged in at all. If I unplug the monitor, it takes a bit longer than I would expect before I see gdm's login screen, but it does eventually appear. 2. With an external monitor plugged in, the external monitor works correctly (it shows the gdm background) but the laptop monitor shows only a mouse cursor (or text cursor when entering a password). The background that it shows is whatever the last tty console was showing, so eg if I switch to tty3 and log in, then switch back to tty1, I see the mouse cursor and all the text left on the screen from tty3. This behaviour occurs on boot and also when I switch users or log out, ie whenever gdm's login screen should be visible. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1754218 Title: [regression] gdm 3.27 shows blank login screen on primary monitor when two monitors are connected on a hybrid intel/nvidia system To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gdm/+bug/1754218/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

At all times I'm using the i915 module, so it is more likely to be related to that or the modeset(?) driver than to nvidia.
