Does this need to be a Feature Freeze Exception? Could you please give
more details as to what the new upstream release contains?

Thanks.

[Bug 1757350] [NEW] Sync etcd 3.2.17+dfsg-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2018-03-20 Thread Anthony Fok
Public bug reported:

Please sync etcd 3.2.17+dfsg-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

This version fixes FTBFS problems with etcd 3.2.9+dfsg-3
and other packages that Build-Depends on it, especially:

src:docker.io
src:docker-libkv
src:golang-github-docker-libnetwork
src:golang-github-spf13-viper
src:golang-github-xordataexchange-crypt
src:skydns

See https://bugs.debian.org/890939 for more information.

Changelog entries since current bionic version 3.2.9+dfsg-3:

etcd (3.2.17+dfsg-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release.
  * Fix FTBFS:
 - New upstream release contains regenerated gRPC *.pb.go and *.pb.gw.po
files (since etcd 3.2.10) which build correctly with the updated gPRC
   packages in Debian.
 - Add "export DH_GOLANG_GO_GENERATE := 1" to debian/rules
to fix FTBFS by re-generating keys.generated.go at build time
with the same version of codecgen as golang-github-ugorji-go-codec-dev.
   See also https://github.com/coreos/etcd/issues/8715.
 - Add "Depends: golang-github-ugorji-go-codec" to have codecgen available
   at build time.
(Closes: #890939)
  * Depend on golang-github-coreos-bbolt-dev, replacing
golang-github-boltdb-bolt-dev, to "address backend database size
issue" (since etcd 3.2.10)
  * Revert incoming-outgoing-context.patch (commit 5e059fd from upstream)
which has been backported upstream in commit d62e39d from v3.3 branch
to v3.2 branch since etcd 3.2.10
  * Add match-ugorji-go-codec-native-time.Time-support.patch, which updates
etcd/client/keys{,_test}.go to match the latest
golang-github-ugorji-go-codec-dev to prevent a new "cannot use
x.Expiration (type *time.Time) as type time.Time in argument to
r.encDriver.EncodeTime" error, see https://github.com/ugorji/go/issues/224
and https://github.com/ugorji/go/commit/8badb25.
  * Apply "cme fix dpkg" to debian/control,
bumping Standards-Version to 4.1.3, setting Priority to optional,
and adding Testsuite: autopkgtest-pkg-go, etc.
  * Add myself to the list of Uploaders

[Bug 1757351] [NEW] Sync golang-github-coreos-bbolt 1.3.1-coreos.5-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2018-03-20 Thread Anthony Fok
Public bug reported:

Please sync golang-github-coreos-bbolt 1.3.1-coreos.5-1 (universe) from
Debian unstable (main)

This package is a prerequisite (build requirement) of etcd 3.2.17+dfsg-1,
and is needed for solving the an FTBFS problem in etcd 3.2.9+dfsg-1,
see LP:1757350.

It was forked from golang-github-boltdb-bolt so that the CoreOS team
could make extensive bugfixes and enhancements that the original
bolt author wasn't ready to accept.

All changelog entries:

golang-github-coreos-bbolt (1.3.1-coreos.5-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Initial release (Closes: #892486),
based on the Debian packaging of golang-github-boltdb-bolt.

[Bug 1750780] Re: Race with local file systems can make open-vm-tools fail to start

2018-03-20 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Note: When we do the Xenial backport of the new version of open-vm-tools
(which we plan to do) this becomes an issue. In the same upload I intend
to fix it right away, so it should never effectively exist in the field
(keep invalid, but there might be a fix-released update to open-vm-tools

[Bug 1741390] Re: Please backport open-vm-tools 2:10.2.0-3 (main) from bionic

2018-03-20 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
I prepared the SRU Template for this, there are two things to complete
before pushing:

1. VMWare will run more regression testing using the ovt automation package
over the next days
2. I added an MP with the packaging changes to be reviewed [1]

Once both complete we can push it for the actual SRU.

** Description changed:

+ [SRU Justification]
+ A package manager bug can cause dist-upgrades from 17.10 to 18.04 to fail
because of trying to process triggers out of order. Since the trigger being
run is that of the currently-installed plymouth package, it is not guaranteed
to be sufficient to fix the version of the package in 18.04.
+
+ [Test case]
+ 1. Install plymouth-themes-ubuntu-text from artful-proposed.
+ 2. Run a release upgrade with each of update-manager -d, do-release-upgrade
-d, and apt-get dist-upgrade (the last after manually changing sources.list).
+ 3. Verify that in each case, the upgrade completes successfully, with no
errors about out-of-order trigger configuration.
+
+ [Regression potential]
+ noawait triggers have been supported in dpkg since 1.16.1, which is older
than the version in precise
(https://manpages.debian.org/jessie/dpkg-dev/deb-triggers.5.en.html). A
noawait trigger is considered appropriate whenever the triggered package does
not need to block the triggering package. There is no reason for a plymouth
theme package to need to block configuration of an essential package in this
case. noawait triggers are well-exercised in the distro now, so the risk of
regression from this change should be low.
+
+ There is unfortunately not a known reproducer for the original bug, so
+ the test case, while it should guard against regressions, is not strong
+ confirmation that the bug is fixed.

[Bug 1750465] Re: upgrade attempting to process triggers out of order (package plymouth-theme-ubuntu-text 0.9.2-3ubuntu17 failed to install/upgrade: dependency problems - leaving triggers unprocessed)

2018-03-20 Thread Steve Langasek
Some thoughts here:
 - bash is shown as being unpacked immediately before this. bash is an
essential package.
 - the package which triggers the plymouth theme packages is base-files, which
ships /etc/lsb-release. base-files is also an essential package.
 - apt tries to handle Essential packages specially, by configuring them as
quickly as possible.
 - the plymouth packages use 'interest' triggers, not 'interest-noawait'
triggers, so the base-files package can't be configured until after the
plymouth triggers have been run.
 - dpkg doesn't let the triggers be run before the dependencies are configured.

I think it's very likely that this is a package manager bug, since I
don't see any dependency loops anywhere involving lsb-release and
plymouth-themes-ubuntu-text. However, we can probably also work around
it by making the plymouth triggers use interest-noawait instead, so that
they do not block the configuration of essential packages.

I also think this warrants an SRU, since the version of the theme
package being triggered may be the old version during a release upgrade.

[Bug 1757218] Re: QCA9377 isn't being recognized sometimes

2018-03-20 Thread Leonardo Müller
The behavior appears to be much better with the kernel version 4.16-rc6.
However, I think this is not 100% solved, as the following error is
still (but now rarely) happening when disconnecting from a network:

[ 5934.740004] ath10k_pci :02:00.0: failed to install key for vdev 0 peer
xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx: -110
[ 5934.740010] wlp2s0: failed to remove key (0, xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx) from
hardware (-110)

With that MAC address being from the router. I believe this error, when
happening on shutdown or reboot, is the source of the problem, as when
that messages are not shown (apparently) the error doesn't happens.

[Bug 1757301] Re: Brightness, contrast issues (possibly NVidia specific) in totem and VLC

2018-03-20 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Installing vdpau-va-driver is only a workaround, and also one that we do
not wish to include in normal Ubuntu because it is known to be buggy and
cause performance problems for some GPUs.

This bug remains a valid bug for the case where vdpau-va-driver is not
installed. As such bug 1727232 may very well be related.

If you are happy with the workaround of installing vdpau-va-driver and
do not wish to pursue this bug further then it will expire automatically
after 60 days. No further investigation required.

Re: [Bug 1757301] Re: Brightness, contrast issues (possibly NVidia specific)

2018-03-20 Thread Paul Dorman
Clearly you did not bother to read my complete report. If you had you would
not have linked to a completely unrelated existing issue. I clearly stated
that installing vdpau-va-driver solved the problem. This is a missing
dependency issue.

I know you folks do your best, but you need to understand that not
everybody with something useful to offer has the free time to familiarise
themselves with the minutiae of Canonical's bug reporting guidelines.

[Bug 1757326] [NEW] snaps can't see network

2018-03-20 Thread Joe Barnett
Public bug reported:

after upgrading to bionic, installed spotify via snap because of the
libcurl3/4 conflict (had not tried running apps via snap in artful or
prior). then updated core to --beta per bug 1756793. now spotify runs,
but claims there is no network available. also tried mailspring, and it
also can't see any network available, claiming it couldn't resolve the

[Bug 1757320] Re: Remove Qt 4 from the archive

2018-03-20 Thread Simon Quigley
** Description changed:

Currently Qt 4 has been dead upstream and we are starting to have
problems maintaining it, like for example in the OpenSSL 1.1 support case.

Following in the footsteps of Debian[1], all packages directly or
indirectly depending on qt4-x11 must either get ported to Qt 5 and
uploaded to the development release or get removed (by means of demotion
to -proposed or the whole source package removal) before the 19.04
release. If it is possible to do this by the 18.10 release, please do so.

No new packages entering the Ubuntu archive should depend on qt4-x11 or
any package which directly or indirectly depends on it.

[Bug 1728093] Re: [16.04, ALC3253] Dell Latitude 5289 Combo Jack Does Not Recognize Devices

2018-03-20 Thread Jeff Conner
I had a similar problem with my Dell Latitude 5289 using Ubuntu 17.10.
After trying different things, I got it to work by using hdajackretask.
I got a clue from norteo on this thread:

https://askubuntu.com/questions/926590/headphone-not-working-on-
ubuntu-17-04-dell-xps-15

To get it to work for my specific setup, I ran hdajackretask, checked
the box to "show unconnected pins," selected "override" for pin 0x21,
and set it to "Headphone." I did not override or adjust any of the other
pins.

I realize you're using a different version of Ubuntu, but I hope this
might help you or someone else using a Dell Latitude 5289.

[Bug 1757321] [NEW] Can't mount encrypted USB drive after upgrade to bionic

2018-03-20 Thread Joe Barnett
Public bug reported:

after upgrading to bionic, attempts to mount an encrypted USB drive fail
with the error "function bd_crypto_luks_open_blob called but not

Installing libblockdev-crypto2 and libblockdev-crypto-dev and rebooting
appears to have fixed it, but should that be necessary? or at least
better documented?

[Bug 1745483] Re: [MIR] uvloop

2018-03-20 Thread Seth Arnold
I reviewed uvloop version 0.8.1+ds1-1 as checked into bionic. This
shouldn't be considered a full security audit but rather a quick gauge
of maintainability.

- uvloop provides a thin shim around libuv1 for Python asyncio
  programming.
- No CVE history in our database

- Build-Depends: debhelper, dh-python, libuv1-dev, cython3,
  python3-all-dev, python3-all-dbg, python3-setuptools, python3-pytest,
  python3-aiohttp,
- Does not do cryptography
- Does extensive networking
- Does not daemonize
- pre/post inst/rm sections auto-generated
- No initscript / systemd unit files
- No dbus services
- No setuid files
- No binaries in PATH
- No sudo fragments
- No udev rules
- Tests run during the build; scope not investigated
- No cronjobs
- Some build warnings, slightly messier than one might expect

- Does not itself spawn subprocesses, but provides wrappers for programs,
  including unsafe versions.
- Memory management looked careful
- Does not itself open files
- Error logging looked careful
- Uses PYTHONASYNCIODEBUG variable to control debugging
- Does not itself do cryptography
- Extensive networking, but mostly as a thin shim to libuv1
- No privileged portions of code visible
- No temporary files
- No WebKit use
- No JavaScript use
- No PolicyKit use

I've never read code quite like this before: it's not just Python, it's
not just C to implement a Python module. A recent bugfix to address UDP
problems threw away the libuv1 bindings that had been used and re-wrote
functionality -- changes of this scope would be very difficult for us to
implement ourselves.

However, the code appears to be professionally programmed. Errors are
handled or reported and comments are high-quality.

Security team ACK for promoting uvloop to main.

Thanks

[Bug 1754218] Re: [regression] gdm 3.27 shows blank login screen on primary monitor when two monitors are connected on a hybrid intel/nvidia system

2018-03-20 Thread Rocko
And finally: I didn't install nvidia-384 because it actually installs
nvidia-graphics-drivers-390 and that was a complete disaster for me
because it didn't work at all with bumblebee.

[Bug 1756184] Re: Search making excessive requests for snap details and search

2018-03-20 Thread Robert Ancell
3.28.0-0ubuntu5 should now not do a detail request for each of the
featured snaps (uses the metadata from the search result instead). It
will now do a detail lookup the first time you click on a snap.

Note that we do still do a detail lookup on each installed snap when you
start - this is a long standing issue due to the icon information not
being reliable on local snaps. If these requests are an issue we should
tackle that in another bug.

2018-03-20 Thread Rocko
There hasn't been any feedback from the developers at the upstream bug.
Is there any other information I could provide to help debug this?

Also, I see on my bionic installation that mutter is at 3.28.0-2 but
gdm3 is still at 3.27.92-0ubuntu1. Is there a 3.28 version of gdm that's
coming out soon?

[Bug 1754218] Re: [regression] gdm 3.27 shows blank login screen on primary monitor when two monitors are connected on a hybrid intel/nvidia system

2018-03-20 Thread Rocko
I'll try and describe the gdm login screen behaviour in more detail:

1. With no external monitor, the gdm login screen is shown as expected.
This is true whether I unplug the external monitor after gdm is running
or boot up without it plugged in at all. If I unplug the monitor, it
takes a bit longer than I would expect before I see gdm's login screen,
but it does eventually appear.

2. With an external monitor plugged in, the external monitor works correctly
(it shows the gdm background) but the laptop monitor shows only a mouse cursor
(or text cursor when entering a password). The background that it shows is
whatever the last tty console was showing, so eg if I switch to tty3 and log
in, then switch back to tty1, I see the mouse cursor and all the text left on
the screen from tty3. This behaviour occurs on boot and also when I switch
users or log out, ie whenever gdm's login screen should be visible.

[Bug 1754218] Re: [regression] gdm 3.27 shows blank login screen on primary monitor when two monitors are connected on a hybrid intel/nvidia system

2018-03-20 Thread Rocko
nvidia-387 is from the http://ppa.launchpad.net/graphics-
drivers/ppa/ubuntu ppa.

But I'd say that this bug is not at all related to the nvidia module,
because the problem persists when I completely remove all nvidia
packages from the system.

At all times I'm using the i915 module, so it is more likely to be
related to that or the modeset(?) driver than to nvidia.
