You need to do `snap refresh --beta core` for now. Hopefully it's not
long before it's in the stable channel.

[Bug 1638345] Re: avahi-daemon crashes multiple times an hour

2018-04-05 Thread Trent Lloyd
This bug was fixed in the package avahi for trusty, xenial and artful.
bionic is not affected by this issue.

xenial: 0.6.32~rc+dfsg-1ubuntu2.1
trusty: 0.6.31-4ubuntu1.2

Would be great if the various people affected by this could confirm they
no longer hit the issue.

[Bug 1761663] Re: Attached encrypted USB drive gets stuck in password prompt

2018-04-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I would be interested to see if the problem persists in Ubuntu 17.10 or
18.04 (due for release this month).

17.10.1 release: https://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop
18.04 pre-release: http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/

That is likely faster than trying to figure out what component, and if
any fix for this issue has been made since 16.04.

[Bug 1750583] Re: Broken panel and launcher - all black

2018-04-05 Thread Sam_
Issue solved.
Solution:
Open Unity-plugin in CCSM.
Switch from no blur to active blur: the dash is clear - no broken graphics.
Move color from transparent up to 50 percent: all symbols in dash and launcher
appear.

@ Khursid, many thanks for your assistance and hints.

[Bug 1737671] Re: Blu-ray burner no longer detected

2018-04-05 Thread Roald Strauss
This is still a problem.

Burner apps like k3b does detect the drive. And I can also burn standard
stuff with command line burner tools like wodim and the likes.

The all of these tools doesn't identify my Blu-ray burner as a Blu-ray
burner. Even when inserting a Blu-ray disc, they all think it's just a
DVD, and thus complains there isn't enough room.

ImgBurn (via Wine) says it can't detect the drive.
I need to use ImgBurn because it's my only way of getting UDF 2.5 since there's
no UDF 2.5 available for Linux.

[Bug 1761663] [NEW] Attached encrypted USB drive gets stuck in password prompt

2018-04-05 Thread Cerin
Public bug reported:

I used the standard tools in Ubuntu 16 to format and encrypt a large USB
hard drive for storing secure backups to. I then used that drive with
the standard "Backups" tool to capture periodic backups.

My hard drive recently died, forcing me to re-install Ubuntu 16. The re-
install went well, but when I tried to attach the drive to restore my
personal files, a modal appeared, prompting me to enter my password.

So I did. And then it prompted me again. I thought I'd mistyped my
password, so I re-entered it, making sure my caplocks or numlock key
weren't on, but again, it prompted me. After each prompt, the full-
screen modal darkened the background until after a dozen attempts, my
background was almost completely black. I suspect what's going on is
something's trying to access the encrypted disk while I'm typing in the
password, and each access is triggering another prompt, effectively
locking me out of the system because it's impossible for me to enter a
nearly infinite series of prompts.

This bug is a huge problem for two reasons:

1. it locks you out of your computer
2. it prevents you from accessing secure storage and restoring your system

I managed to partially workaround #1 by switching to a terminal and
running `export DISPLAY=:0; gnome-shell --replace`. That caused Gnome to
reload, which minimized the modal program, allowing me to kill it in the
app thumbnail view.

However, that's a huge hassle, and I'm still unable to access any data
on encrypted USB drives, even when I enter the password correctly.
Please advise.

I don't know exactly what component to file this bug under, so I chose
"gnome-shell". Please re-tag it if this is incorrect.

[Bug 1761646] Re: Can't mount kvm image file on new kernel of 16.04(linux 4.4.0-119)

2018-04-05 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1761646/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1748157] Re: [MIR] thunderbolt-tools

2018-04-05 Thread Seth Arnold
One of the udev rules files appears to be untranslated:

./thunderbolt-tools_0.9.3-1_amd64/lib/udev/rules.d/tbtacl.rules:
# Thunderbolt udev rules for ACL (device auto approval)
SUBSYSTEM=="thunderbolt" ENV{DEVTYPE}=="thunderbolt_device" ACTION=="add"
ATTR{authorized}=="0" RUN+="@UDEV_BIN_DIR@/tbtacl add$devpath"
SUBSYSTEM=="thunderbolt" ENV{DEVTYPE}=="thunderbolt_device" ACTION=="change"
ATTR{authorized}!="0" RUN+="@UDEV_BIN_DIR@/tbtacl change $devpath"

The proper contents are in .../60-tbtacl.rules so probably the fix is
easy.

Thanks

[Bug 1761216] Re: Backup fails if backup destination is not mounted

2018-04-05 Thread William Ritchie
I tried using "Disks" to allow for the partition on which the backups
live on a local drive to "mount on startup".

Instead of mounting the disk for which the partition was marked "mount
on startup", at reboot, it seem to hide the drive all together. The
drive was not mounted, but hidden from the system and completely
unavailable to the backup application or listed in file manager.

I reversed the process by checking the box in "Disks" to allow default
management, and upon reboot, the drive with the partition for the
backups was back and available.

So, I cannot mount the backup drive at system startup, and the backup
application, once set to "Local Device" and pointing to a local disk
(other than the default) will cause the backup (if scheduled) to fail
claiming it is unable to create, permission denied.

One I open the backup application and manually point the "Backup
Destination" does the destination drive "mount" and the backup will
succeed.

The backup cannot be scheduled to backup to a local drive other than
it's default.

This is clearly broken. The "mount on startup" should have fixed this,
so the backup drive is mounted and available at system startup and
available for the backup application.

This is on 18.04 Beta daily builds.

As mentioned in that github xl2tpd issue, I've submitted a pull request
that fixes the bug. It is based on xl2tpd-1.3.8-saref.patch in Fedora's
xl2tpd RPM spec file, except it doesn't attempt to obtain the ancillary
IP_PKTINFO data, so does pretty much what xl2tpd running on non-linux
operating systems do.

I've requested a new xl2tpd release which has the pull request, but
don't know how long it will be for the new release.

It would be great if Fedora 26, 27 and EPEL7 xl2tpd packages are updated to the
next new release or have a patch based on the pull request.

[Bug 1749732] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in malloc_consolidate()

2018-04-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
There was no explicit known fix.

So while we can see it stopped happening after 17.04, we don't know what
exactly fixed it and so can't cherry pick a fix into 16.04 right now.
You will need to be using Ubuntu 17.10 or later instead.

[Bug 994921] Re: 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/app.crash' (and even more so, 'apport-cli -c /var/crash/app.crash') should still allow manual bug filing in stable releases

2018-04-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I think we need to revisit this bug.

Every day I am telling users "Please start by applying the workaround
for bug 994921". Without that, we have bug reports describing crashes
but no stack traces. So bugs would stay open indefinitely.

By telling users to apply the workaround from bug 994921, I am quickly
able to get a stack trace from them, deduplicate their original bug
reports and _close_ the bug as a duplicate. It would be a faster and
safer process if I didn't have to keep telling (often inexperienced)
users to "apply the workaround from bug 994921".

It's worth remembering most users don't install Ubuntu until after
release. Only then do they want to report bugs. But only then do we
block them from doing so.
