[Bug 1762122] [NEW] drm_kms_helper.edid_firmware not working anymore on Ubuntu 18.04
Public bug reported: I installed today Ubuntu 18.04. I have a secondary monitor (Acer AL1914), which does not provide a EDID, so I created one and usually loaded directly from the kernel at startup. The EDID is located here: /lib/firmware/edid/al1914.bin The kernel command line is this: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash drm_kms_helper.edid_firmware=VGA-1:edid/al1914.bin" On Ubuntu 16.04, this worked perfectly. Now, the additional mode from the edid is not present among the resolutions available (I have to create a new one and add it with cvt and xrandr once the system is loaded). [Bug 1757321] Re: udisks2 must depend on libblockdev-crypto2 and libblockdev-mdraid2 instead of suggests [Can't mount encrypted USB drive after upgrade to bionic]
I installed libblockdev-crypto2, and now I don't get the error "function bd_crypto_luks_open_blob called but not implemented" - but I now instead get an "Operation not permitted" error. Does anyone else have this issue? [Bug 1762113] [NEW] Tools no longer work against hardware TPM device on e.g. Intel NUC's tpm_crb driver on recent kernels
Public bug reported: Executing something like this should cause the TPM to return 4 bytes of random data: $ sudo strace tpm2_getrandom -T device 4 strace shows that this happens instead: openat(AT_FDCWD, "/dev/tpm0", O_RDWR) = 3 write(3, "\200\1\0\0\0\f\0\0\1{\0\4", 12) = 12 read(3, "\200\1\0\0\0\f\0\0\1{\0\4", 4096) = 12 e.g. writing a command to TPM seems to cause it to just echo the written command back, rather than the TPM's actual response for this command. This is not how it used to work in 16.04. This behavior is not expected by the tools, which parse this as a TPM error: ERROR: TPM2_GetRandom Error. TPM Error:0x17b However, we haven't seen the response yet, so we can't determine if TPM had an error processing the command. It's just a broken assumption made by the TPM interface library that the read() after command gives the response's data rather than the request's data. All other TPM commands fail similarly for this reason. (For what it's worth, there identical problem with the tss2 package, which provides an alternative suite of TPM 2.0 related tools.) This used to work on the 4.10 kernel from 16.04. It was already broken on the Hardware Enablement 16.04 kernel that's based on 4.13, so there must have been some change in kernel that has broken this between 4.11 to 4.13 releases. I was deferring writing this bug until I managed to test it on 4.15, but alas, the tools don't work there either. The big change in kernel seems to be that a TPM in-kernel resource manager has been added. The resource manager's point is to allow multiple processes to use TPM concurrently. It is unclear to me whether this also implies changes to the way the tpm0 device should work. I am in fact having really hard time finding any documentation of the tpm0 interface, so I can't even confirm if this programming API's apparent change has been intended or not. I am currently assuming that kernel is working properly and it's the tools that must be updated to resolve the problem, but it is also possible that this bug should be opened against the kernel itself instead. It is conceivable that the issue is limited to subset of TPM drivers. Unfortunately, the only hardware with TPM I have available is based on tpm_crb driver on an Intel NUC, so I can't test if the tools would work on some other hardware implementation. All updates and installs via apt-get were blocked because mysql failed to upgrade, with similar error messages as above. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it seems that a package failed to install due to a segmentation fault in the application being used for the package installation process. Could you try recreating this issue by enabling apport to catch the crash report 'sudo service apport start force_start=1' and then trying to install the same package again? [Bug 1751820] Re: Teach dh_translations how to deal with meson
Smart way to find the builddir, Laney. :) I tested with g-c-c and stumbled upon an issue: The introspect command seems to result in a newline separated list of domains, and in the case of g-c-c $domain contains the string: 'gnome-control-center-2.0 gnome-control-center-2.0-timezones' The log file includes: ninja: error: unknown target 'gnome-control-center-2.0 gnome-control-center-2.0-timezones-pot' No POT built, and you can imagine what the .desktop and .policy files look like. In the patched dh_translations I replaced: chomp $domain; with ($domain) = split ' ', $domain; and could then build g-c-c successfully. Questions: 1. How do we know that we want the first domain in the list? 2. How do we generally handle packages with multiple gettext domains? 3. Is there a need to create gnome-control-center-2.0-timezones.pot? (If there is, it's another bug, I suppose.) A side note - I noticed that this: # filter out translated fields next if (/^(Name|GenericName|Comment|X-GNOME-FullName)\[/); means that the upstream translations of "Icon" and "Keywords" are kept. Shouldn't those be removed as well, or are they kept intentionally? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1751820 Title: Teach dh_translations how to deal with meson To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pkgbinarymangler/+bug/1751820/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1683990] Re: [Precision 3510, Realtek ALC3235, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all. Resets to mute. No 'Play Sound Through' options
Why is this bug marked as invalid? I believe I am also affected by this bug. I have the same model of Dell (Precision 3510) with a Realtek ALC3235. Audio worked correctly with Ubuntu 14.04 which was pre-installed by Dell. After upgrading to 16.04 I have the issue. When I look in sound settings nothing is listed within the "Play audio through" list under the Output tab. I have been able to use alsamixer to get audio to work when this happens. It seems that the internal speaker has been muted. I recently ran "apt update" and then "apt upgrade" and now I cannot get audio to play through the internal speaker even with alsamixer. The problem seems to have gotten worse. If I connect a headset or an external docking station, audio works fine with those devices. They appear as normal within sound settings. And I am able to configure them without any problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1683990 Title: [Precision 3510, Realtek ALC3235, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all. [Bug 1762086] [NEW] libreoffice-writer 6.0.2: no default borderless tables
Public bug reported: Testing the 6.0.2-0ubuntu1 release of LibreOffice included with the beta of Ubuntu 18.04 (daily image of April 7th), I find that LO Writer 6 cannot create borderless tables by default. Previously, one could get the desired result by simply unchecking the "border" boxes under the "tables" nodes of Tools > Options > LO Writer and of Tools > Options > LO Writer/Web. Unfortunately, that does not seem to work for LO 6. Tables get created with borders even so. More annoyingly, after I remove them manually, they pop up again as soon as I make any edits to the table (e.g. insert or delete a line or make any edits to the numbering). The PPA versions of LO 6 available for 17.10 appeared to be suffering from the same problem. But then it was easy to revert to the officially supported LO 5. As 18.04 is to be an LTS release and LO 6 looks like the official version, I do hope to see the table bug solved sooner than later. ** Affects: libreoffice (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1762086 Title: libreoffice-writer 6.0.2: no default borderless tables To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1762086/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1761644] Re: Delete the password for the live session on all flavors
** Summary changed: - [UIFe] Delete the password for the live session on all flavors + Delete the password for the live session on all flavors ** Description changed: - UI Freeze Justification - + A historical Ubuntu GNOME bug fix deleted the password for the live user. To get around auto-login bugs in gdm. These later carried over to Ubuntu when they switched back to GNOME. Now seems like the other flavors want this behavior also. It avoids the password prompts when logging into a TTY for example. My previous hack from a few years ago of injecting a systemd unit is no longer required, lets just delete the "blank" password when we add the live session user in casper. [Test Case] 1. Login to a tty should not require you to press "enter" at the password: prompt (for blank password) 2. [Bug 1762082] [NEW] software-properties-common 0.96.24.24 bloats dependencies on server
Public bug reported: As of version 0.96.24.24, software-properties-common declares dependencies on gir1.2-goa-1.0, gir1.2-snapd-1, and gir1.2-secret-1. This in turn pulls in a variety of transitive dependencies, including glib-networking, which was noticed because it is now part of the cloud image used for autopkgtests and breaks tests on some packages. We include software-properties-common in the server seed in order for the add-apt-repository command to work. add-apt-repository definitely doesn't seem to be making use of any of these other gir modules. I don't think this dependency is added at the right level; I think the dependency needs to be moved up to whichever package is actually making use of the canonical-livepatch information - which appears to be software-properties-gtk. ** Affects: software-properties (Ubuntu) Importance: High Assignee: Andrea Azzarone (azzar1) Status: Triaged ** Affects: software-properties (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: High Assignee: Andrea Azzarone (azzar1) Status: Triaged ** Changed in: software-properties (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Andrea Azzarone (azzar1) ** Changed in: software-properties (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => High ** Also affects: software-properties (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: High Assignee: Andrea Azzarone (azzar1) Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1762082 Title: software-properties-common 0.96.24.24 bloats dependencies on server To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-properties/+bug/1762082/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I'm not particularly swayed by the arguments to remove the Recommends from the Debian package. I don't think the Recommends of youtube-dl are excessive. mplayer2 is no longer recommended. The other recommends are needed to download media from certain sites. "So there is no dispute that ytdl is quite useful for mpv, only that users should likely acquire & update ytdl on their own from the site." [Bug 1759956] Re: [dvr][fast-exit] incorrect policy rules get deleted when a distributed router has ports on multiple tenant networks
Reviewed: https://review.openstack.org/559257 Committed: https://git.openstack.org/cgit/openstack/neutron/commit/?id=0224dcfea4ffeaac6cbcec7464887e7538e49091 Submitter: Zuul Branch:stable/pike commit 0224dcfea4ffeaac6cbcec7464887e7538e49091 Author: Dmitrii Shcherbakov Date: Thu Mar 29 17:32:01 2018 -0400 Use cidr during tenant network rule deletion If a distributed router has interfaces on multiple tenant networks, with 'fast exit' functionality policy based rules are created in qrouter namespace for every tenant network subnet and 'from ' is included into an 'ip rule' command invocation. When a port on a tenant network is deleted 'from ' part is not included and a first rule matching specified parameters gets deleted. For example with the following layout ip netns exec qrouter-4f9ca9ef-303b-4082-abbc-e50782d9b800 ip rule 0: from all lookup local 32766: from all lookup main 32767: from all lookup default 8: from 192.168.100.0/24 lookup 16 8: from 192.168.200.0/24 lookup 16 and neutron l3 agent will use this command ip netns exec qrouter-4f9ca9ef-303b-4082-abbc-e50782d9b800 ip -4 rule\ del priority 8 table 16 type unicast and 192.168.100.0/24 rule will get deleted even if you actually removed a port on 192.168.200.0. This results in an extra rule present and not cleaned up and the right rule removed. It is only recreated if a router is disabled and enabled again. additional changes: 1) Floating IP rules are identified by priority only as implemented currently - for this reason this change adds fixed_ip to the rule removal code. Rule priorities are 32-bit values in iproute2 so, in theory, those should be not be used to cover IPv6. 2) IP protocol information for 'from all' rules is currently derived from link-local address IP version. The same approach is preserved by using version-specific /0 addresses without changing the API provided by ip_lib. [Bug 1761757] Re: use correct path for tbtacl in udev rules
I'm not sure I understand what's going on here, so I'll take the risk that I'm describing the obvious: @UDEV_BIN_DIR@ is a cmake parameter that is replaced by cmake with the path it reads from pkgconfig. See here: https://github.com/intel/thunderbolt-software-user-space/blob/master/CMakeLists.txt#L10 If this is the wrong location: 1. UDEV_BIN_DIR can be set manually while running cmake (or using ccmake/cmake-gui). 2. If there is a better way to detect the distro-specific correct location for udev dirs, I'd like to fix it upstream. Anyway, copy of the original .rules.in files instead of using the resulted .rules file seems strange to me. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1761757 Title: use correct path for tbtacl in udev rules To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbolt-tools/+bug/1761757/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1419563] Re: Keyboard CTRL, ALT and SUPER keys binded as SHIFT
First of all, thank you so much my new heros swoogan and finally strangenetworks - I (presently) solely registered to express my gratitude!! As a real newbie newbie I got me linux mint 18.3 cinnamon recently, keyboard is a SL-6432-BK Lucidis. I had (almost) the same trouble as strangenetworks, installing swoogan's driver didn't succeed neither with DKMS nor manually, only difference to strangenetworks was that running the install.sh and then to unplug/plug the keyboard didn't work here. I still tried strangenetworks approach and getting my keyboard running worked as you described it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1419563 Title: Keyboard CTRL, ALT and SUPER keys binded as SHIFT To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint/+bug/1419563/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
