[Bug 1762603] Re: bluetooth keeps turning off

2018-04-09 Thread Aurélien PIERRE
I mean reboots.

So, on boot, the airplane mode is turned on by default (for an unknwon
reason).

The rfkill output is attached above. I have to trigger several `sudo
rfkill unblock all` to actually have them unlocked (in command line).
But then, the GUI still shows the bluetooth switch as OFF. When I try to
enable the BT in the GUI, the gnome-control-center window freezes but no
device detection happens. Closing and re-opening the gnome-control-
center shows that BT is still OFF.

Using the BT hotkey from the laptop chenges nothing.

[Bug 1748157] Re: [MIR] thunderbolt-tools

2018-04-09 Thread Mario Limonciello
> Did I get the interpretation of these rules correct?
At a glance it looks like what you thought, but dig a little deeper.
1. The rule calls tbtacl add
(https://github.com/intel/thunderbolt-software-user-space/blob/master/tbtacl/tbtacl.rules.in#L2)
2. tbtacl add calls authorize:
https://github.com/intel/thunderbolt-software-user-space/blob/master/tbtacl/tbtacl.in#L117
3. Authorize looks if it's in the ACL:
https://github.com/intel/thunderbolt-software-user-space/blob/master/tbtacl/tbtacl.in#L66

If it's not in the ACL it exits.

I used the same name for the title of our pages since that's what our

(which look a bit silly duplicated below to me). We probably should
match the GNOME design for now.

[Bug 1724944] Re: gdm3 doesn't start with disable-user-list=true option enabled

2018-04-09 Thread fprietog
And the 2nd point is also an "user" problem.

When we use the dconf-editor GUI we are changing the dconf keys for the
user that executes the command, usually your personal user. So changing
it from there has no effect because the user that launches the greeter
is different; 'gdm'.

So the solution is change the dconf key for the user 'gdm'.

I don't know how to do it from the dconf-editor GUI so I give the old
fashion way:

Using root:

- Create a file named '/etc/dconf/profile/gdm' with this contents:

  user-db:user
  system-db:gdm

- Create a file named '/etc/dconf/db/gdm.d/50-disable-user-list' with this
content:

  [org/gnome/login-screen]
  disable-user-list=true

- Execute the command 'sudo dconf update'

And that's all. It changes the dconf setting for user 'gdm' and after
reboot the greeter works as expected: asking for the user instead of
showing the users list.

And this solution works in both Ubuntu 17.10 and Ubuntu 18.04 Beta 2!!!

but they're mostly not showing this error message any more.

[Bug 1711337] Re: Firefox crashes at start on armv7L after 55.0.1 update

2018-04-09 Thread Chris Worsley
@jdonald Wow (& sound a hats being taken off).
That really moves the boat forward - well done!
I did wonder what it was that allowed arch to work, and had a hunch that it
would be hiding in plain sight in their PKGBUILD file, if only I could
understand it.
Thank you for all that work - & your upstream fix intentions!

It's also worth pointing out that a timeout is probably expected and
correct on machines without Bluetooth. So it's just slightly suboptimal
design to go logging messages that look like errors when in fact they
are expected outcomes.

[Bug 1574951] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 Screen, mousepad and keyboard freezing

2018-04-09 Thread john brown
re:freezing screen with Ubuntu 16.04

This only started recently with me, after watching in the monitor I
noticed the process Web Content was taking almost all the CPU time and a
lot of memory until I ran out of my 6 GB.

I solved it by using these following procedures, after removing a Cookie editor
extension:

#1 Under Firefox pref: Accept 3rd party cookies only from visited
websites!

#2 change this in GRUB

https://askubuntu.com/questions/761706/ubuntu-15-10-and-16-04-keep-
freezing-randomly

There is a line in that: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" (like
this), replace with: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash
intel_idle.max_cstate=1"

#3 My SWAP was not being used at all! I doubled my swap space to that of my
memory (12 GB)

https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-add-swap-space-
on-ubuntu-16-04

Would still freeze or run very slow, finally solved with this:

#4 I installed noscript from Firefox/Tools/extensions and only allow a
select few site to run scripts.

[Bug 1762602] [NEW] resolv.conf empty after reboot

2018-04-09 Thread Aurélien PIERRE
Public bug reported:

/etc/resolv.conf contains only :

# Generated by Connection Manager
nameserver ::1
nameserver 127.0.0.1

If I add "nameserver 8.8.8.8", it's lost on the next reboot.

Manually entering the DNS IP in the WIFI parameters (network-manager-
gnome, tab IPv4) does nothing.

I have to edit the resolv.conf on each reboot to get the WIFI to work.

[Bug 1540706] Re: Canon DR-F120 - IO Errors

2018-04-09 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Given that 1.0.27 is in bionic and code inspection at
https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/sane/sane-
backends.git/tree/backend/canon_dr.c?h=1.0.27 seems to suggest that this
patch was applied upstream, it looks as if this problem should be fixed.

Thank you for reporting, thank you for your work. Closing.

[Bug 1762597] [NEW] External HDMI screen get internal screen color profile

2018-04-09 Thread Aurélien PIERRE
Public bug reported:

System : Intel Skylake Xeon + Nvidia Quadro M2200M with Nvidia Optimus laptop
Kernel : 4.15.16
Driver : Nvidia 390.48
Optimus sync enabled.

Configuration :

The internal screen is wired to the Intel GPU, the HDMI port is wired to
the Nvidia GPU. The HDMi port has an external monitor plugged.

Reproduce the bug :

Both screens have a different color profile (.icm and .icc) loaded in
gnome-color-manager. However, after booting or when the internal display
profile is edited, the external monitor gets the same color profile as
the internal one.

Workaround :

Disable then re-enable the color profile on the external monitor. This
applies back the correct profile.

xrandr output:

[Bug 1762595] [NEW] Thunar incorrectly thinks USB hard disk hasn't finished ejecting

2018-04-09 Thread halogen2
Public bug reported:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu Bionic Beaver (development branch)
Release:18.04

$ apt-cache policy thunar
thunar:
  Installed: 1.6.15-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 1.6.15-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 1.6.15-0ubuntu1 500
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/universe amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Hardware: MacBook Pro 9,1

Steps to reproduce:

1) mount a ext4 partition of a USB harddisk

2) do something with the mounted partition, doesn't seem to matter what

3) Using the eject button in the Thunar window sidebar, eject the
mounted partition of the USB HDD.

4) After the USB HDD is ejected and spins down, unplug it.

At (3), the disk ejects normally. But Thunar thinks it hasn't been ejected and
is still trying to eject. The "Writing data to device" notification continues
to display. Eventually, Thunar pops up an error dialog saying 'Failed to eject
"". Timeout was reached.' Sometimes Thunar will exit after
this message is closed.

For what it's worth, the specific USB HDDs in my case have more than one
partition, but I'm only mounting and using a single ext4 partition
before ejecting the disk.

[Bug 1753010] Re: after recent updates playing youtube videos in firefox causes sometimes freezing of the system

2018-04-09 Thread Kamil
You may close this bug. The problem does not relate to Ubuntu directly.
It was the issue of indexing in Phpstorm for symlinked folders and folders with
cached temporary data.
Also it partially related to amount of memory dedicated to JVM.

[Bug 1673649] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in OsAbort()

2018-04-09 Thread Daniel Hollocher
I've been getting this when waking from sleep. I have a weird
experience before with sleep on this computer, where I was running linux
mint 18.something, and I noticed that it wasn't going to sleep all the
time. It was a weird thing where opening the laptop when a sleep was
already initiated would pause the sleep from happening even if the
laptop was closed again. I was playing with this, opening and closing
the laptop when I noticed some errors. It wasn't recovering, and things
were getting weird, so I decided to reboot... I never did boot off that
ssd again. Luckily, I was able to read ALL the data off the drive, just
couldn't write to it, or boot off it.

So I'm not going to test this. Maybe there is some weird hw bug.
Hopefully me sharing this story provides some kind of useful data point.
