[Bug 1766048] [NEW] Tearing / sluggish desktop since recent 18.04 update with AMD hardware
Public bug reported: I did a full update of my system which has been running 18.04 since the beta 2 update and I've noticed now that the desktop feels quite sluggish. The last update I did was about 5 days ago. I'm not sure which package was the culprit as several were updated (30+). However - I think it has something to do with Gnome. I have a 75 Hz monitor, and it seems like Gnome animations, as well as just actions like moving windows around, feel like they're rendering at a lower frame rate. There is a lot of jitter too almost like tearing. Moving the mouse cursor around feels like 75 Hz though (super smooth), as well as when I play games. Had no issues prior to running 'apt upgrade'. And I can confirm my monitor is running @ 75 Hz. I'm running the stock Ubuntu kernel currently but I did try installing the most recent stable kernel (4.16.2) and that exhibited the same issue. One thing I did notice, is that setting the flag amdgpu.dc=0 in my Grub config did fix the tearing and general lag issues with moving windows around. However, it isn't a complex fix as that instead introduced stuttering with the mouse cursor. With a fresh Beta 2 installed (no package updates) this tearing/lag issue is not present. It is also not present when using 16.04 with an updated kernel. Additionally using Wayland instead of X.org I don't notice these issues but that has the limitation effect of not being able to run at higher refresh rates in my testing. System specs: Threadripper 1950X 64 GB RAM Radeon Pro WX7100 LG 38UC99 monitor (3840x1600 res). [Bug 1766047] [NEW] Impossible to choose a language when booting in UEFI, as Ubiquity never opens due to problematic grub config
Public bug reported: When booting Ubuntu or one of its flavors (noticed first with Xubuntu) in UEFI mode, ubiquity never opens. The issue this causes is that there is never a option to choose a language, so all systems booted in UEFI mode are always in English, consequently the language, keyboard and timezone are wrong. My suggestion is to, instead of having two options (one to try and another to install), have one that boots in the ubiquity window, asking what the user wants to do and the language the user desires to use. Something like: menuentry "Start Ubuntu" { set gfxpayload=keep linux /casper/vmlinuz.efi file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed maybe-ubiquity boot=casper quiet splash --- initrd /casper/initrd.lz } ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: ubiquity 18.04.9 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-15.16-generic 4.15.15 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-15-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu6 Architecture: amd64 CasperVersion: 1.393 CurrentDesktop: XFCE Date: Sun Apr 22 04:28:14 2018 InstallCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/casper/vmlinuz.efi file=/cdrom/preseed/xubuntu.seed boot=casper quiet splash --- LiveMediaBuild: Xubuntu 18.04 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Alpha amd64 (20180421.1) ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm-256color PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= LANG=C.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: ubiquity UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug bionic xubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1766047 Title: Impossible to choose a language when booting in UEFI, as Ubiquity never opens due to problematic grub config To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1766047/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1765914] Re: Java windows and fonts are huge running in openjdk-11-jre

My normal screen layout is 1920x1080 with two screens, so the command "xrandr -q | awk -F'current' -F',' 'NR==1 {gsub("( |current)","");print $2}'" shows 1920x2160. One of the screens is 4K, so presumably Java *might* be detecting this and deciding it needs to double everything in size, but this is clearly an error since I'm not even using this mode. [Bug 1766046] [NEW] dpkg-deb error processing libc6_2.27, libzstd.so.1 is missing
Public bug reported: Several updates of Ubuntu 18.04 worked, but yesterday, the update failed because of some missing file in libc6_2.27-3ubuntu1_amd64.deb and libc6_2.27-3ubuntu1_i386.deb While updating Ubuntu 18.04, the update failed with a failure to find libzstd.so.1 in the libc6_2.27--3ubuntu1_i386 and libc6_2.27-3ubuntu1_amd64.deb packages. Oddly, another problem (1027076) was reported on askubuntu for a missing libzstd in package htop_2.1.0-3_amd64.deb. The libzstd should be in its own package, according to apt-file search. $ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... [Bug 1766043] [NEW] High CPU and opening of media player
Public bug reported: Hi guys- I hope I am in the right place, or at least a place where it can be understood to be properly placed. I will start with the basic needs: $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu Bionic Beaver (development branch) Release:18.04 $ apt-cache policy mate-settings-daemon mate-settings-daemon: Installed: 1.20.1-2ubuntu1 Candidate: 1.20.1-2ubuntu1 Version table: *** 1.20.1-2ubuntu1 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status What is happening is that after a random period of time, my media player will open up, persist upon staying open and I will see a spike to 100% CPU utilization. I have found that the following are involved somehow, as ending the tasks has a significant impact. 1. mate-settings-daemon (this often will appear as unresponsive when trying to reboot to fix the issue) 2. at-spi-bus-launcher 3. at-spi2-registryd I have looked into the media player as the issue. My default is Audacious and that is the one it opened. I simply renamed audacious in /usr/bin to audacious2. When I do this, it opened VLC instead, leaving the problem still there. So I have sort of eliminated the actual/specific media player. In my xsession-errors, I get the following WHILE the problem is active: Window manager warning: Buggy client sent a _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW message with a timestamp of 0 for 0x426 (Audacious) Window manager warning: meta_window_activate called by a pager with a 0 timestamp; the pager needs to be fixed. repeated over and over, continuously. With some research, I have seen similar issues in the past. Per those issues, I have found that removing the execute ability from file "at-spi2-registryd" has reduced this issue, but has not stopped it from happening. This "fix" has also introduced many other entries into the xsession-errors log. This was an issue from when I first installed, but after some updates it went away. It as of 2 days ago after running updates has come back strong. The above is my experience since it has come back and what I have done to resolve. I am using MATE. Also, when this issue is active, I lose keyboard ability to type in fields (like this one) and some menus are not functional, like file, edit, etc. This includes the main system menu, like applications and places. Only other thing I can add is that I have found a temporary fix as follows... Click ctrl-alt-F1. Login, then click ctrl-alt-F7 to return to the GUI. This will most times stop the issue where I can actually close the media player without it reappearing right away, and returning functionality to keyboard and menus, etc... the return to "normal". It will then happen again, at what appears to be at random. ** Affects: mate-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1766043 Title: High CPU and opening of media player To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mate-settings-daemon/+bug/1766043/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal: sudo apt-get clean Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a memory test. Thanks in advance! [Bug 1766030] [NEW] CPU usage has a color with no description
Public bug reported: In htop help, the CPU load help is shown different colors depending of the type of task: low priority, normal, kernel, and virtualization. On xterm, the colors are blue, green, red and cyan. However, in the htop meters, it's shown blue, green, red and yellow. Apparently, cyan and yellow are swapped, so the virtualization load has a incorrect color. [Bug 1766019] [NEW] mounted filesystem not listed unless new window opened
Public bug reported: Following this tutorial on my computer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0b4I89LY5E at 10:56 When running the mount commands, doing "ls /mnt" shows nothing and can't chroot because there's nothing there. However if I open another terminal window as root too, is lists all the contents inside /mnt without any further command and I can chroot properly: mount /dev/mapper/ubu-root /mnt mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/boot cd /mnt mount --rbind /dev dev mount --rbind /sys sys mount --rbind /run run mount --bind /proc proc (all the mount commands work properly in the first terminal, but are not shown with ls and can't chroot) Tried to reproduce the error inside virtualbox but no luck, only happened to me on the physical computer. ** Affects: terminal (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1766019 Title: mounted filesystem not listed unless new window opened To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/terminal/+bug/1766019/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
