[Bug 1766052] [NEW] Incorrect blacklist of bcm2835_wdt

2018-04-21 Thread Kees Cook
Public bug reported:

Without bcm2835_wdt loaded, Raspberry Pi systems cannot reboot or shut
down. This needs to be removed from the automatic blacklist generated by
the kernel build that ends up in /lib/modprobe.d/blacklist_linux_$(uname
-r).conf

[Bug 1766048] [NEW] Tearing / sluggish desktop since recent 18.04 update with AMD hardware

2018-04-21 Thread Mike
Public bug reported:

I did a full update of my system which has been running 18.04 since the
beta 2 update and I've noticed now that the desktop feels quite
sluggish. The last update I did was about 5 days ago. I'm not sure which
package was the culprit as several were updated (30+).

However - I think it has something to do with Gnome. I have a 75 Hz
monitor, and it seems like Gnome animations, as well as just actions
like moving windows around, feel like they're rendering at a lower frame
rate. There is a lot of jitter too almost like tearing.

Moving the mouse cursor around feels like 75 Hz though (super smooth),
as well as when I play games. Had no issues prior to running 'apt
upgrade'. And I can confirm my monitor is running @ 75 Hz.

I'm running the stock Ubuntu kernel currently but I did try installing
the most recent stable kernel (4.16.2) and that exhibited the same
issue. One thing I did notice, is that setting the flag amdgpu.dc=0 in
my Grub config did fix the tearing and general lag issues with moving
windows around. However, it isn't a complex fix as that instead
introduced stuttering with the mouse cursor.

With a fresh Beta 2 installed (no package updates) this tearing/lag
issue is not present. It is also not present when using 16.04 with an
updated kernel. Additionally using Wayland instead of X.org I don't
notice these issues but that has the limitation effect of not being able
to run at higher refresh rates in my testing.

System specs:

Threadripper 1950X
64 GB RAM
Radeon Pro WX7100
LG 38UC99 monitor (3840x1600 res).

[Bug 1766047] [NEW] Impossible to choose a language when booting in UEFI, as Ubiquity never opens due to problematic grub config

2018-04-21 Thread Leonardo Müller
Public bug reported:

When booting Ubuntu or one of its flavors (noticed first with Xubuntu)
in UEFI mode, ubiquity never opens. The issue this causes is that there
is never a option to choose a language, so all systems booted in UEFI
mode are always in English, consequently the language, keyboard and
timezone are wrong.

My suggestion is to, instead of having two options (one to try and
another to install), have one that boots in the ubiquity window, asking
what the user wants to do and the language the user desires to use.
Something like:

menuentry "Start Ubuntu" {
set gfxpayload=keep
linux   /casper/vmlinuz.efi  file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed
maybe-ubiquity boot=casper quiet splash ---
initrd  /casper/initrd.lz

[Bug 1765914] Re: Java windows and fonts are huge running in openjdk-11-jre

2018-04-21 Thread Rocko
** Description changed:

- If I run a Java application with oracle-java-8, the windows and fonts
- are all normal size. When I run the same application with
- openjdk-11-jre, everything is scaled up to double size (see attached
- image, which shows an application on the left running in Java 8 and the
- same application on the right running in Java 10 (from the package
- openjdk-11, not openjdk-10 for some reason).
+ If I run a Java application with oracle-java-8 in an X session, the
+ windows and fonts are all normal size. When I run the same application
+ with openjdk-11-jre, everything is scaled up to double size (see
+ attached image, which shows an application on the left running in Java 8
+ and the same application on the right running in Java 10 (from the
+ package openjdk-11, not openjdk-10 for some reason).

  My normal screen layout is 1920x1080 with two screens, so the command
  "xrandr -q | awk -F'current' -F',' 'NR==1 {gsub("( |current)","");print
  $2}'" shows 1920x2160.

  One of the screens is 4K, so presumably Java *might* be detecting this
  and deciding it needs to double everything in size, but this is clearly
  an error since I'm not even using this mode.

  If I set the laptop to use a single external 1920x1080 monitor, it makes
  no difference - the Java applications are still double the size that
  they should be.

+ There's no problem if I run in a Wayland session - the app windows run
+ at a normal size whether in java 10 or 8.

[Bug 1766046] [NEW] dpkg-deb error processing libc6_2.27, libzstd.so.1 is missing

2018-04-21 Thread Ubfan
Public bug reported:

Several updates of Ubuntu 18.04 worked, but yesterday, the update failed
because of some missing file in libc6_2.27-3ubuntu1_amd64.deb and
libc6_2.27-3ubuntu1_i386.deb

While updating Ubuntu 18.04, the update failed with a failure to find
libzstd.so.1 in the libc6_2.27--3ubuntu1_i386 and
libc6_2.27-3ubuntu1_amd64.deb packages.  Oddly, another problem
(1027076) was reported on askubuntu for a missing libzstd in package
htop_2.1.0-3_amd64.deb. The libzstd should be in its own package,
according to apt-file search.

[Bug 1762844] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2018-04-21 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From dnban...@us.ibm.com 2018-04-21 23:43 EDT---
The kernel mentioned in #114 was a quick, rough attempt to force one instance
of free_work/del_work pending at a time.

With that, the machine still seems to be up.

root@boslcp3:~# uptime
22:21:50 up  3:41,  2 users,  load average: 77.72, 82.67, 81.90
root@boslcp3:~# virsh list
IdName   State

1 boslcp3g3  running
2 boslcp3g4  running
4 boslcp3g1  running

And the logs still look clean!

[Bug 1489473] Re: invoking fslint should give a hint to fslint-gui or fslint should be a link to it

2018-04-21 Thread Rolf Leggewie
I speak German, so no problem about the error message. I have some
sympathy for this request.

@Pádraig, in other words, if one where to actually make a symlink from
/usr/bin/fslint to /usr/bin/fslint-gui it could break things,
/usr/share/fslint/fslint/fslint in particular?

[Bug 1762844] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2018-04-21 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From dnban...@us.ibm.com 2018-04-21 23:33 EDT---
Continuing from the description at #84...

This is going to be long post. I debated putting it as as
attachment but placing it in the main body will probably
help in searching in the future.

===

So the pool_mayday_timeout() routine basically walked into the
weird/corrupted work item on the pool workqueue corresponding to
cpu 0x68 (104). So the critical question is who may have put
that item there with the strange work->data value
data = R10: 2040

BTW, pool_mayday_timeout got the pool thus:

static void pool_mayday_timeout(struct timer_list *t)
{
struct worker_pool *pool = from_timer(pool, t, mayday_timer);
and then ...
list_for_each_entry(work, >worklist, entry)
send_mayday(work);
}

This is the timer:

struct timer_list {
entry = {
next = 0x5deadbeef200,
pprev = 0x0
},
expires = 0x1018d5103,
function = 0xc012e790 ,
flags = 0x168
}

crash> rd jiffies
c1713b00:  0001018d5380.S..

The corresponding worker pool:
-
struct worker_pool {
lock = {
{
rlock = {
raw_lock = {
slock = 0x8068
}
}
}
},
cpu = 0x68,
node = 0x8,
id = 0xd0, Note the id!
flags = 0x1,
watchdog_ts = 0x1018d50b0,
worklist = {
next = 0xc00fe2a0b020,
prev = 0xc00fe2a075b0
},
nr_workers = 0x2,
nr_idle = 0x0,
idle_list = {
next = 0xc000200e60eb7db8,
prev = 0xc000200e60eb7db8
},
idle_timer = {
entry = {
next = 0x5deadbeef200,
pprev = 0x0
},
expires = 0x1018c6fa3,
function = 0xc012e980 ,
flags = 0x41c80068
},
mayday_timer = {
entry = {
next = 0x5deadbeef200,
pprev = 0x0
},
expires = 0x1018d5103,
function = 0xc012e790 ,
flags = 0x168
},
...
workers = {
next = 0xc0002000cb9fa138,
prev = 0xc0002000cb9f1708
},
detach_completion = 0x0,
worker_ida = {
ida_rt = {
gfp_mask = 0x700,
rnode = 0xc000200e51923bd8
}
},
attrs = 0xc00ff92cddf8,
hash_node = {
next = 0x0,
pprev = 0x0
},
refcnt = 0x1,
nr_running = {
counter = 0x0
},
rcu = {
next = 0x0,
func = 0x0
}
}

This pool->id will be used to compute a marker for a
deleted/executed item in the future.

Now let's walk through the workers on the work list:

The TWO entries there are:
c00fe2a075b0
c00fe2a0b020

Work struct #1
===
crash> work_struct c00fe2a075a8
struct work_struct {
data = {
counter = 0xc000200e60eba305 <<< DATA GOOD!!! (a pwq)
},
entry = {
next = 0xc000200e60eb7da0,
prev = 0xc00fe2a0b020
},
func = 0xc0080b1af5a8
}

Work struct #2
===
crash> work_struct 0xc00fe2a0b018
struct work_struct {
data = {
counter = 0x2040 <<<--  DATA BAD!!!
},
entry = {
next = 0xc00fe2a0b020,
prev = 0xc00fe2a0b020
},
func = 0xc0080b1af5a8
}

Note that Work struct #2 is the PROBLEM work item!!

One important thing to note: BOTH THE WORK ENTRIES HAVE THE SAME
WORK FUNCTION - i.e the same entity likely created this work.

crash> dis 0xc0080b1af5a8 1
0xc0080b1af5a8 : addis   r2,r12,4

So these work entries were created by the QLogic driver!

The call

Yeah, so I doubt it's a whitespace fix in the rxrpc driver. However, a
diff between the configs on v415-rc2 and v415-rc3 has lots of
differences, the most interesting being this one:

[Bug 1766043] [NEW] High CPU and opening of media player

2018-04-21 Thread Brian
Public bug reported:

Hi guys-

I hope I am in the right place, or at least a place where it can be
understood to be properly placed. I will start with the basic needs:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu Bionic Beaver (development branch)
Release:18.04

$ apt-cache policy mate-settings-daemon
mate-settings-daemon:
  Installed: 1.20.1-2ubuntu1
  Candidate: 1.20.1-2ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 1.20.1-2ubuntu1 500
  500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/universe amd64 Packages
  100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

What is happening is that after a random period of time, my media player will
open up, persist upon staying open and I will see a spike to 100% CPU
utilization. I have found that the following are involved somehow, as ending
the tasks has a significant impact.
1. mate-settings-daemon (this often will appear as unresponsive when trying to
reboot to fix the issue)
2. at-spi-bus-launcher
3. at-spi2-registryd

I have looked into the media player as the issue. My default is
Audacious and that is the one it opened. I simply renamed audacious in
/usr/bin to audacious2. When I do this, it opened VLC instead, leaving
the problem still there. So I have sort of eliminated the
actual/specific media player.

In my xsession-errors, I get the following WHILE the problem is active:

Window manager warning: Buggy client sent a _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW message with a
timestamp of 0 for 0x426 (Audacious)
Window manager warning: meta_window_activate called by a pager with a 0
timestamp; the pager needs to be fixed.

repeated over and over, continuously. With some research, I have seen
similar issues in the past. Per those issues, I have found that removing
the execute ability from file "at-spi2-registryd" has reduced this
issue, but has not stopped it from happening. This "fix" has also
introduced many other entries into the xsession-errors log.

This was an issue from when I first installed, but after some updates it
went away. It as of 2 days ago after running updates has come back
strong. The above is my experience since it has come back and what I
have done to resolve.

I am using MATE. Also, when this issue is active, I lose keyboard
ability to type in fields (like this one) and some menus are not
functional, like file, edit, etc. This includes the main system menu,
like applications and places.

Only other thing I can add is that I have found a temporary fix as
follows... Click ctrl-alt-F1. Login, then click ctrl-alt-F7 to return to
the GUI. This will most times stop the issue where I can actually close
the media player without it reappearing right away, and returning
functionality to keyboard and menus, etc... the return to "normal". It
will then happen again, at what appears to be at random.

much easier to do.

--- Comment From dnban...@us.ibm.com 2018-04-21 21:30 EDT---
I gave a test kernel to Chanh to try out on boslcp3, based on the observations
from the crash.(it has taken a while ...) - just a quick initial attempt.

I will soon be posting the analysis. Meanwhile, boslcp3 still seems to
be up:

root@boslcp3:~# uptime
20:27:40 up  1:47,  3 users,  load average: 75.78, 76.19, 63.86
root@boslcp3:~# virsh list
IdName   State

1 boslcp3g3  running
2 boslcp3g4  running
4 boslcp3g1  running

Don't see any hung tasks (yet?) in the logs...

[Bug 1766036] Re: package g++-7 (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: dpkg-deb --fsys-tarfile subprocess returned error exit status 2

2018-04-21 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test.  Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

packaging bug reports have Wishlist importance. Subsequently, I'm
setting this bug's status to Wishlist.

[Bug 1721955] Re: Human and Human-Clearlooks themes have incorrect gray window title color

2018-04-21 Thread Tina Russell
This bug boggles my mind. Looking at the human-theme Launchpad code page
https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-art-pkg/human-theme/ubuntu it looks
like the code for the Human theme packages hasn’t been updated since
2011. Why would it stop working now?! Maybe a bug needs to be filed with
GTK?

(I’m also using Ubuntu MATE 18.04 LTS. This problem began for me when I
upgraded from 16.04 LTS.)

I’d like to see this fixed, the Human theme was the last vestige of the
2000s-era Ubuntu I loved :(

Also, please post access information for this system.

Rebooted several times, stays fixed with rc.local empty.

This suggest you need to add something to the post-install script ?

[Bug 1766009] Re: package dh-strip-nondeterminism 0.015-1 failed to install/upgrade: problemas com dependências - a deixar por configurar

2018-04-21 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
1) if you report bugs please report them in english
2) I believe your system in an inconsistent state or something (which _may_ be
a bug somewhere, but not here). Indeed your DpkgHistoryLog.txt is reporting
previous errors for many other dpkg invocations.

Please contact user support if you don't know how to handle this
situation.

[Bug 1766030] [NEW] CPU usage has a color with no description

2018-04-21 Thread Leonardo Müller
Public bug reported:

In htop help, the CPU load help is shown different colors depending of
the type of task: low priority, normal, kernel, and virtualization. On
xterm, the colors are blue, green, red and cyan. However, in the htop
meters, it's shown blue, green, red and yellow.

Apparently, cyan and yellow are swapped, so the virtualization load has
a incorrect color.

I have tested htop with xfce4-terminal and xterm:

[Bug 1766019] [NEW] mounted filesystem not listed unless new window opened

2018-04-21 Thread Bump
Public bug reported:

Following this tutorial on my computer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0b4I89LY5E
at 10:56

When running the mount commands, doing "ls /mnt" shows nothing and can't chroot
because there's nothing there. However if I open another terminal window as
root too, is lists all the contents inside /mnt without any further command and
I can chroot properly:
mount /dev/mapper/ubu-root /mnt
mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/boot
cd /mnt
mount --rbind /dev dev
mount --rbind /sys sys
mount --rbind /run run
mount --bind /proc proc
(all the mount commands work properly in the first terminal, but are not shown
with ls and can't chroot)

Tried to reproduce the error inside virtualbox but no luck, only happened to me
on the physical computer.

It's solved with "apt install grub-pc-bin grub-efi-amd64-bin grub-efi-
