[Bug 1764980] Re: test_095_kernel_symbols_missing_proc_modules failed with 4.15 KVM kernel

2018-04-26 Thread Steve Beattie
I've now added a check for whether CONFIG_KALLSYMS is enabled in the
running kernel and adjusted the expected test results based on that, in
qrt commit https://git.launchpad.net/qa-regression-
testing/commit/?id=cde457932459a525c75126db8a8d4b7262d4da24 . This
should address this failing test case, though it may need to be modified
to take into account differing behavior for the 4.4 linux-kvm kernel.

** Changed in: linux-kvm (Ubuntu Bionic)
   Status: Incomplete => Invalid

** Changed in: qa-regression-testing
Status: In Progress => Fix Committed

Hi,

No luck. Still no touchpad :(

I was going to do a clean install of 18.04. Is this an idea?

Cheers

[Bug 1767134] Re: package libvirt-daemon-system 4.0.0-1ubuntu8 failed to install/upgrade: installed libvirt-daemon-system package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2018-04-26 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Interesting.
I'm glad you resolved it on your own, but lets try to understand what happened
if we can still do that after the cleanup.

Touch erroring with "does not exist" means the path is gone.
But this dir is part of package libvirt-daemon-system and if not removed should
always be there.

In general two questions would arise.
1. did you get it resolved with purge/reinstall (I'd think that should work,
but obviously purge is too hard for some)
2. please check if /var/log/libvirt/qemu/ exists and is owned
   $ ls -laF /var/log/libvirt/qemu
   $ dpkg -S /var/log/libvirt/qemu
If the above is good I'd wonder why it breaks, maybe permissions on that dir
tree changed?

I see above you already did #1, but if you have checked some data for #2
before you did so I'd still be interested to understand what was going
on if you have e.g. the console output still.

Setting incomplete until I hear back from you.

[Bug 1754492] Re: Dell XPS 15 - Turned off Keyboard backlight turns on after resuming from suspend

2018-04-26 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Which laptop light do you refer to?

I can't find any PCIe errors from the dmesg in the bug report.

Also, I guess it's time to try Bionic (18.04). The GNOME in 16.04 is
quite old.

[Bug 1312419] Re: nl_cache_refill; rtnl_neigh_get fail to find neighbors in cache

2018-04-26 Thread Abhik
Hi,

Same issue.

I am using similar test application to get the neighboring mac addresses
on a Centos 7.2.1511 machine. Installed 3.21, 3.28, 3.4 versions and all
returned with NULL.

Is this going to be fixed? Or Is there any other API within libnl3 that
can do the trick?

[Bug 1767258] Re: bluetooth cann't open

2018-04-26 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please try toggling the switch in the header bar to ON (next to the
minimize/maximize/close buttons).

If that doesn't work then it appears the problem is that the kernel has
not detected your bluetooth hardware (see rfkill.txt above).

[Bug 1733557] Re: Login screen showing Authentication Failure Switch to greeter...

2018-04-26 Thread Rod Waltermann
I have this problem, and found a thread here:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/584207/cannot-log-in-at-locked-screensaver-must-log-in-with-switch-user?utm_medium=organic_source=google_rich_qa_campaign=google_rich_qa

The fix that worked for me was a permission problem on /etc/shadow
$ ls -l /etc/shadow
-rw-r- 1 root shadow 2202 Jun 23 12:39 /etc/shadow

For me the permission was:
$ ls -l /etc/shadow
-rw-r- 1 root root 2202 Jun 23 12:39 /etc/shadow

When I changed the group to shadow and restarted the system. I was able
to login from the lock screen again. The reason I believe that
restarting is required is that the lightdm crashes if it cannot access
the shadow file. and once it crashed, you get the message about
authentication failure, switch to greeter.

The explanation was that the lockscreen runs in user context, whereas
the greeter runs as root, so the shadow group allows lightdm to access
it.

I tried the lock screen several times now, and it is solidly working. I
did not change the group from shadow to root, so perhaps an update
changed the file permission, or a patch changed the password utility.
not sure.

[Bug 1706203] Re: gnome-shell crashed with heap corruption in g_strfreev() from g_themed_icon_finalize()

2018-04-26 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I'm guessing the reason why we don't see many reports of this crash is
because it's possibly triggered by shell extensions that Ubuntu doesn't
normally ship with.

Yours are:
b'org.gnome.shell' b'enabled-extensions'
b"['freon@UshakovVasilii_Github.yahoo.com', 'netsp...@hedayaty.gmail.com',
'uptime-indica...@gniourfgniourf.gmail.com',
'screenshot-window-si...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com',
'openweather-extens...@jenslody.de',
'launch-new-insta...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com',
'native-window-placem...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com',
'windowsnaviga...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com',
'extensi...@abteil.org', 'apps-m...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com',
'user-th...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com',
'places-m...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'TaskBar@zpydr',
'drive-m...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com',
'window-l...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com']"

You might want to try disabling extensions to find which, if any, are
causing the crash.

[Bug 1764980] Re: test_095_kernel_symbols_missing_proc_modules failed with 4.15 KVM kernel

2018-04-26 Thread Steve Beattie
I've reproduced this with the 4.15 linux-kvm kernel. I'm not sure why
it's doing this, though:

  ubuntu@sec-bionic-amd64:~$ sudo cat /proc/modules
  kvm_intel 200704 - - Live 0x
  pata_acpi 12288 - - Live 0x
  ubuntu@sec-bionic-amd64:~$ cat /proc/version_signature
  Ubuntu 4.15.0-1004.4-kvm 4.15.15

with the regular 4.15 kernel, on the same host:

  ubuntu@sec-bionic-amd64:~$ cat /proc/version_signature
  Ubuntu 4.15.0-15.16-generic 4.15.15
  ubuntu@sec-bionic-amd64:~$ sudo head -5 /proc/modules
  nf_conntrack_netlink 40960 0 - Live 0xc05bb000
  nf_conntrack 131072 1 nf_conntrack_netlink, Live 0xc058d000
  libcrc32c 16384 1 nf_conntrack, Live 0xc0556000
  nfnetlink 16384 6 nf_conntrack_netlink, Live 0xc054d000
  snd_hda_codec_generic 73728 1 - Live 0xc0538000

Digging around in /sys/modules, it looks like the
/proc/modules/MODULE/sections/ tree isn't present in linux-kvm, which is
indicating that CONFIG_KALLSYMS is not set. I *think* this is the
difference that is causing the /proc/modules addresses to always be
zero, at least in the 4.15 kernel, but I haven't tracked down codepaths
enough to ensure that's the case.

[Bug 1767124] Re: bluetoothd crashed with SIGILL

2018-04-26 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I can't seem to find any existing reports of this crash. All I can tell
is that it looks like Ubuntu 16.04...

Please help us to debug it further by:

1. Applying the workaround from bug 994921.

2. Look in /var/crash for .crash files and when found run:
   ubuntu-bug /var/crash/YOURFILE.crash

3. Tell us here the ID of the newly-created bug.

[Bug 1766938] Re: gnome-shell crashed in standard_pict_format_for_depth()

2018-04-26 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yes it's possible one of your icons uses 16-bit colour, and explains why
we don't see other/many reports of this crash.

In theory we should hit this problem more often, given that we have:
  /usr/share/icons/hicolor/
and "high color" means 16-bit (or 15-bit). But apparently most icons in there
are "true colour" instead.

[Bug 1767067] Re: Booting to live session fails with: at-spi-bus-launcher: unable to create file '/run/user/999/dconf/user': Permission denied.

2018-04-26 Thread Jeremy Bicha
@experimancer, I am sorry that you thought my response was arrogant.

The nature of the release process is that it's not possible to provide
an exact hour and minute for release. The release was announced months
ago that it would happen on April 26. In an extraordinary event, it's
possible for a release to slip as late as the next day. While this was
an annoying bug, it is sadly not unusual for late issues to be
discovered while getting ready to prepare the release. That is why we
test release candidate images -- so that we can find important issues in
time to fix them and still get the release out sometime on the promised
day. Most of these late bugs never get any attention at all in social
media or news sites.

Since the release did happen on April 26 (at least in some timezones),
there was no need to put out an announcement about it being late because
it wasn't yet late really.

Ubuntu simply has way too many users for Ubuntu volunteers like me to be
able to provide all of you individualized attention and explanations as
to why we don't have a more precise ETA. In any case, this is completely
off-topic since this webpage is about a bug that has now been fixed.

2018-04-26 Thread Jonty Gamao
Public bug reported:

After I upgrade Kubuntu from 17.10 to 18.04, and restarted it, all I'm
seeing is my mouse cursor, which responds to my movements, and that's
pretty much it. I tried to see if I can start up sddm, but that failed.

I got to login by installing slick-greeter and use that instead.

After logging in, the message says:

Plasma is unable to start as it could not correctly use OpenGL 2. Please check
that your graphics drivers are set up correctly.

I checked the environment variable `$DISPLAY`, but it seems to be unset.

I tried reinstalling `plasma-desktop`, `sddm`, `mesa` drivers, `xorg`,
`xserver-xorg*intel`, `kde*`, `kwin`, and `nvidia-340` drivers.

My laptop is a Lenovo Z40 with NVIDIA GT810m (currently disabled and
using Intel HD Graphics).

[Bug 1767223] [NEW] multilib selects wrong start files

2018-04-26 Thread Ed
Public bug reported:

The multilib setup is not working in the bionic version of gcc-arm-none-
eabi (gcc v6.3.1). For example, if I build a project with
"-mcpu=cortex-m4" or "-march=armv7e-m" and link with:

arm-none-eabi-gcc -o someoutput.elf object1.o object2.o -mthumb -Wl
,--gc-sections -ffast-math -march=armv7-m -Tlinker_script.ld

I get as output:

/usr/lib/gcc/arm-none-eabi/6.3.1/../../../arm-none-eabi/bin/ld: error:
/usr/lib/gcc/arm-none-eabi/6.3.1/../../../arm-none-eabi/lib/crt0.o: Conflicting
CPU architectures 13/1
/usr/lib/gcc/arm-none-eabi/6.3.1/../../../arm-none-eabi/bin/ld: failed to merge
target specific data of file
/usr/lib/gcc/arm-none-eabi/6.3.1/../../../arm-none-eabi/lib/crt0.o

arm-none-eabi-readelf -A on any of my object files produces:

Attribute Section: aeabi
File Attributes
  Tag_CPU_name: "Cortex-M4"
  Tag_CPU_arch: v7E-M
  Tag_CPU_arch_profile: Microcontroller
  Tag_THUMB_ISA_use: Thumb-2
  Tag_ABI_PCS_wchar_t: 4
  Tag_ABI_FP_number_model: Finite
  Tag_ABI_align_needed: 8-byte
  Tag_ABI_align_preserved: 8-byte, except leaf SP
  Tag_ABI_enum_size: small
  Tag_ABI_optimization_goals: Prefer Speed
  Tag_CPU_unaligned_access: v6

But "arm-none-eabi-readelf -A /usr/lib/gcc/arm-none-eabi/6.3.1
/../../../arm-none-eabi/lib/crt0.o" gives

Attribute Section: aeabi
File Attributes
  Tag_CPU_arch: v4
  Tag_ARM_ISA_use: Yes

If I define "void _init(void){}" and use -nostartfiles, compilation
finishes but the resulting binary does not work. I have not examined the
output file but it appears that it has somehow linked to code containing
ARM as well as thumb code:

# readelf -A someoutput.elf
Attribute Section: aeabi
File Attributes
  Tag_CPU_name: "Cortex-M4"
  Tag_CPU_arch: v7E-M
  Tag_CPU_arch_profile: Microcontroller
  Tag_ARM_ISA_use: Yes
  Tag_THUMB_ISA_use: Thumb-2
  Tag_ABI_PCS_wchar_t: 4
  Tag_ABI_FP_denormal: Needed
  Tag_ABI_FP_exceptions: Needed
  Tag_ABI_FP_number_model: IEEE 754
  Tag_ABI_align_needed: 8-byte
  Tag_ABI_align_preserved: 8-byte, except leaf SP
  Tag_ABI_enum_size: small
  Tag_ABI_optimization_goals: Prefer Speed
  Tag_CPU_unaligned_access: v6

I can work around the problem by manually specifying compatible versions
of libc and libgcc with -nostdlib:

-nostdlib /usr/lib/arm-none-eabi/newlib/thumb/libc.a /usr/lib/gcc/arm-
none-eabi/6.3.1/thumb/v7e-m/libgcc.a

This produces a working binary. However, there is still something wrong
because readelf -A still includes "Tag_ARM_ISA_use: Yes":

Attribute Section: aeabi
File Attributes
  Tag_CPU_name: "Cortex-M4"
  Tag_CPU_arch: v7E-M
  Tag_CPU_arch_profile: Microcontroller
  Tag_ARM_ISA_use: Yes
  Tag_THUMB_ISA_use: Thumb-2
  Tag_ABI_PCS_wchar_t: 4
  Tag_ABI_FP_denormal: Needed
  Tag_ABI_FP_exceptions: Needed
  Tag_ABI_FP_number_model: IEEE 754
  Tag_ABI_align_needed: 8-byte
  Tag_ABI_align_preserved: 8-byte, except leaf SP
  Tag_ABI_enum_size: small
  Tag_ABI_optimization_goals: Prefer Speed
  Tag_CPU_unaligned_access: v6

Previously, using xenial and gcc v4, readelf gives the following output on the
output binary:
Attribute Section: aeabi
File Attributes
  Tag_CPU_name: "7E-M"
  Tag_CPU_arch: v7E-M
  Tag_CPU_arch_profile: Microcontroller
  Tag_THUMB_ISA_use: Thumb-2
  Tag_ABI_PCS_wchar_t: 4
  Tag_ABI_FP_denormal: Needed
  Tag_ABI_FP_exceptions: Needed
  Tag_ABI_FP_number_model: IEEE 754
  Tag_ABI_align_needed: 8-byte
  Tag_ABI_enum_size: small
  Tag_ABI_optimization_goals: Prefer Speed
  Tag_CPU_unaligned_access: v6

(Also, what happened to gdb-arm-none-eabi?)

[Bug 1694225] Re: [Thinkpad T450s] Click lock effect on trackpoint left button when touchpad is disabled

Hi, I just tested the issue with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS which using Linux
kernel v4.15.0-20, and unfortunately the issue still exists.

I wonder if you can compare the ubuntu kernel code with kernel from
fedora or arch linux since they have no issue.

[Bug 1764980] Re: test_095_kernel_symbols_missing_proc_modules failed with 4.15 KVM kernel

2018-04-26 Thread Steve Beattie
Hi Po-Hsu,

I'm not sure why this test is failing on linux-kvm. I've modified the
test in question to dump the contents of /proc/modules when the test
fails in qrt commit https://git.launchpad.net/qa-regression-
testing/commit/?id=b47b677b9f99af9539558044ccdb9b4769f1732e ; if we can
get a re-run of the tests with a version of qrt that includes that
commit, that give me more information as to what's going wrong.

We're not seeing this with the generic kernel, so marking that invalid.

Thanks!

[Bug 1101825] Re: IPv6 static default route added incorrectly by network-manager

2018-04-26 Thread Kenneth R. Crudup
I believe I am affected by this issue as well. I have a Google WiFi
device as a router, and everything works well for the first few days,
with the link-local address used on the Google WiFi's RA used as the
IPv6 default route.

After a couple of days however, the Google WiFi device changes its link-
local address (for some reason) on the LAN subnet, and although an RA
goes out with this new link-local address, NetworkManager still hangs
onto the old default route (which is marked "static" as well) and as
such I lose IPv6 connectivity to the outside world. I have to run "nmcli
conn up Ethernet" to force NM to delete the old default route and use a
the new one.

Also, if I manually "ip -6 replace default ..." leaving the line
otherwise intact as it comes from NM, changing only "proto static" to
"proto ra", as soon as the Google WiFi sends another RA, NM re-writes
the default as "proto static"- yet does NOT update the actual "via"
link-local address to the one the RA came in on.

[Bug 1767067] Re: Booting to live session fails with: at-spi-bus-launcher: unable to create file '/run/user/999/dconf/user': Permission denied.

2018-04-26 Thread Achim Behrens
@21:
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-announce/2018-April/000231.html
while you were demanding to be informed about every step developers and
volunteers do at the release, they did their job and made the release happen.
If you are really that interessted in the release process, i bet the teams
would not reject volunteers to help them. But if you are just impatient, well,
that makes you look not that good now.

[Bug 1604063] Re: No sound in Linux Mint (have to change default settings in AlsaMixer)

2018-04-26 Thread Greg
I used method 1 with the addition of disabling HDA Nvidia in
pavucontrol, configuration. I had been using HDMI output but wanted to
switch back to generic analogue stereo duplex. This was not working
until I disabled HDMI.

[Bug 1762465] Re: Nautilus sidebar theming is confusing

2018-04-26 Thread Ads20000
Oh, except for a less dramatic deviation from the current design the
sidebar should have orange text and an undivided dark background, I
think, rather than an orange line, as in the most recent imgur. Probably
the lighter shade of gray should be used.

[Bug 1762465] Re: Nautilus sidebar theming is confusing

2018-04-26 Thread Ads20000
I think the latter solution - keep the dark background but remove the
line - makes the most sense. Can this be SRU'd to 18.04 when done? I
think this is a significant enough design bug that an SRU should be
done? Regression potential would be, perhaps, that updates (the change
from the buggy UI to the new UI) don't produce the intended result
(though updates can easily be tested for).
