[Bug 1767586] [NEW] Boot freezes with Gdm3

2018-04-27 Thread slamdunk
Public bug reported:

If the selected display manager is "LightDM" I am able to run the
desktop, but if Gdm3 is the selected one, the loading freezes during the
boot.

I can see this error in /var/log/syslog:

gnome-session-binary[1127]: CRITICAL: Unable to create a DBus proxy for
GnomeScreensaver: Error calling StartServiceByName for
org.gnome.ScreenSaver:
GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ChildExited: Process
org.gnome.ScreenSaver exited with status 1

Also I guess this affects normal execution of applications like
"SteamOS", as it exists with the error:

dbus[3704]: arguments to dbus_message_new_method_call() were incorrect,
assertion "path != NULL" failed in file ../../../dbus/dbus-message.c line 1362.
This is normally a bug in some application using the D-Bus library.

D-Bus not built with -rdynamic so unable to print a backtrace

[Bug 1767577] [NEW] ACPI Exception: Could not find/resolve package element: V2P

2018-04-27 Thread Mohd Abbas
Public bug reported:

Hello All,

I have been tirelessly trying to install Ubuntu-18.04 since the last 2
days, but every attempt turned out to be negative. Apart from other GUI
based problems, this particular error gave me the exact details, so I
thought it should be posted here.

I do not have much idea about what it actually means, though.

This error occurs every time when I try to shut down the machine from a
live disc, and then the system freezes, leaving me with no other option
but forced shut down.

This even occurs sometimes when booting from the live cd.

I have already verified the integrity of the downloaded iso through a
checksum verification. It is perfectly OK.

Current OS: Ubuntu-16.04.1 (latest kernel, as per apt-get)
Machine:MSI GV62 7RD

[Bug 1767574] [NEW] number of cores in Resource tab

2018-04-27 Thread Pavlos Kairis
Public bug reported:

Not a bug but an enhancement ... I have 6 cores (AMD FX 6300) and the
resource tab shows 4 cores as the first row and 2 cores in the second.
It would look nicer to line them up as 3 on 1st row and 3 on 2nd row.
Also, note the vertical spacing between cpu1 and cpu5; too tight.

[Bug 1767568] Re: Console DPMS Nonfunctional in Ubuntu Server 18.04

2018-04-27 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1767568/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1758885] Re: Upgrade to 18.04 is failing from 17.10

2018-04-27 Thread M.Hanny Sabbagh
I am facing the same issue.

Don't you think that the bug is actually in being blocked by a 3rd-party
package in the first place? In this case for example, libgbm1 is a
package which is also available in the Ubuntu 18.04 repositories. The
upgrade manager should have been able to automatically detach the
version from the 3rd-party repository and download the package from the
official Ubuntu repository and install it. I see no reason for being
blocked in the first place.

Because as a user, I can't simply remove some of my software upon each
upgrade because of such issue. The real blocker here is the upgrade
mechanism, not the 3rd-party package.

[Bug 1767438] Re: Not able to install ubuntu 18.04 :-(. Crash on installing. Please respond ASAP.

2018-04-27 Thread vikas gola
I think it is not related to UEFI...
It is related to GPT disk type.

Beacuse my friend installed in uefi mode but it doesn't have gpt disk
type. The one another reason of this bug to relate to GPT beacuse
installer crashing in my virtual machine too(which also have gpt).

[Bug 1767564] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 Workspaces only change on primary monitor

2018-04-27 Thread Jim Tittsler
These pages suggest it is intentional:

http://gregcor.com/2011/05/07/fix-dual-monitors-in-gnome-3-aka-my-workspaces-are-broken/

https://elementaryos.stackexchange.com/questions/2732/workspaces-seem-to-only-apply-to-the-primary-display-is-this-a-feature-or-a-bug

It is certainly frustrating. I had expected independent workspace
control on each monitor.

[Bug 1767568] [NEW] Console DPMS Nonfunctional in Ubuntu Server 18.04

2018-04-27 Thread David R. Bergstein
Public bug reported:

My console display is DPMS capable, i.e., power management functions
worked before upgrading from Ubuntu Server 16.0.4.4. Currently the
display stays on 24x7 with idle keyboard input.

1) My release information is as follows:

Description:Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
Release:18.04

2) I am not sure what package this issue is tied to. The current kernel
appears to have DPMS support enabled, per the configuration file in
/boot. If the kernel is responsible, below is the version I am running.

linux-generic:
Installed: 4.15.0.20.23

3) I expected to have DPMS support for my console as in the previous
release of Ubuntu Server.

4) What happened instead is my monitor stays on all the time, without
DPMS controlling it.

[Bug 1767559] [NEW] Provide libinput 1.10.5 in bionic-updates to fix specific touchpad and keyboard issues

2018-04-27 Thread seanlano
Public bug reported:

This is an SRU request to bring the libinput 1.10.5 microrelease to
bionic-updates.

Bionic ships with 1.10.4, but the 1.10.5 microrelease fixes several
highly specific issues with Lenovo T440, T450s and X280 and Dell XPS13
L322X laptops. See: https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/wayland-
devel/2018-April/037934.html

[Impact]

 * Users of Dell XPS13 L322X laptops have an almost unusable touchpad
out-of-the-box with Bionic. This has been reported in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/libinput/+bug/1746740 and fixed upstream in
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=104990 .

 * Users of Lenovo T440, T450s and X280 laptops also have suboptimal
touchpad experiences.

[Test Case]

 * The issue can be reproduced on any Dell L322X laptop, by booting the
Bionic live CD. The touchpad will only work with the slightest touch,
any more amount of touch pressure falsely triggers the palm detection
and the cursor won't move.

 * Manually overriding the HWDB with the patches available in
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=104990 fixes the issue.

 * These patches have been released in libinput 1.10.5.

 * With the patched HWDB or latest microrelease, the touchpad works
properly out-of-the-box.

[Regression Potential]

 * Regressions are highly unlikely, changes will only affect users with
the above mentioned devices.

[Other Info]

It is worth noting that the Dell XPS13 L322X is from the Sputnik series
of "Developer Edition" laptops from Dell, which are supposed to have
excellent Ubuntu support and came pre-installed with Ubuntu 12.04 when
first released. Every release from 12.04 to 17.10 had perfect out-of-
the-box touchpad support, so this bug is a regression. I realise this is
because of the change away from synaptics as the input driver, but in
terms of user experience presents a serious regression.

[Bug 1767560] [NEW] Battery graph in tray icon is inaccurate

2018-04-27 Thread Boris Gjenero
Public bug reported:

xfce4-power-manager has a tray icon which shows current status and has a
graph when a battery is inserted. The green bar in the icon should be
showing current battery level, but it varies weirdly. If I place my
mouse cursor over the icon the tooltip which appears shows the actual
battery level. Now it is charging, 44%, but the graph is more like 80%.
Earlier while discharging at around 28% the green was absent, as if it
was 0%.

Both times I verified via the tooltip. So, the package has correct info
but is graphing it incorrectly. It is not simply old info because it
changes.

[Bug 1767561] [NEW] menulibre crashed with TypeError in abspath(): expected str, bytes or os.PathLike object, not bool

2018-04-27 Thread Mariusz Kubański
Public bug reported:

I was testing Menu Libre 2.2.0 on newest Xubuntu 18.04, I added a new
blank launcher ("Nowy aktywator") in a random folder (Graphics for
example), used search field to find it ("nowy"), clicked somewhere on
empty space couple times, clicked on disabled (greyed out) menu buttons
and at some point Menu Libre crashed with

menulibre crashed with TypeError in abspath(): expected str, bytes or
os.PathLike object, not bool

but it remained open, and soon a new instance of Menu Libre showed up
also.

Unfortunately I don't have 100% way to reproduce it, but I've managed to
crash it couple of times just by playing with it this way. Sometimes it
look longer to crash.

The virtual environment was not created successfully because ensurepip is not
available. On Debian/Ubuntu systems, you need to install the python3-venv
package using the following command.

apt-get install python3-venv

You may need to use sudo with that command.

I have just installed that package.

[Bug 1759625] Re: FFe: Sync gimp 2.10.0~RC2-1 (universe) from Debian experimental (main)

2018-04-27 Thread Jeremy Bicha
I'm closing this bug. We're not going to include gimp 2.10 in Ubuntu
18.04 LTS so it's probably better to close this bug so that we don't
confuse people.

gimp 2.10 will be autosynced to Ubuntu 18.10 when autosync is turned on
(maybe in a week or two).

[Bug 1687246] Re: GNOME Shell should support fractional (non-integer) Hi-DPI scaling

2018-04-27 Thread Ken
I had it manually enabled in Gnome on 17.10 and just upgraded to 18.04.
On Wayland, I'm noticing fractional scaling went from pretty good to
broken; many fonts (even the datetime on the top of the screen) are now
pixelated on 150% scaling.

[Bug 1767549] [NEW] org.gnome.Characters.desktop untranslated

2018-04-27 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Public bug reported:

$ tail -n1 /usr/share/applications/org.gnome.Characters.desktop
X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain=$PACKAGE_NAME

dh_translations is confused by files in the source package belonging to
the old build system. configure.ac contains this line:

GETTEXT_PACKAGE=$PACKAGE_NAME

and dh_translations happily uses it to do its things.

The gnome-characters source package should apparently be cleaned up, but
I think that dh_translations should also be changed to not accept a
domain starting with '$'.

[Bug 1767544] [NEW] While running the Orca screen reader, system hangs while gnome-control-center is open

2018-04-27 Thread Jeremy Lincicome
Public bug reported:

When gnome-control-center loads, my computer becomes inaccessible. To get Orca
working again, I have to force close the app with Alt+f4. There are parts of
the control center that I can use, such as the sound and VPN settings, only if
I invoke them from the dash. If I invoke Wi-Fi from the dash or top bar, it is
inaccessible.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Launch Orca by pressing Alt+Super+s.
2. Press the super key, and type "settings" into the search box.
3. After the settings screen loads, try to move around using Tab and Shift+Tab.
Also try to move using Orca's flat review feature.
The commands for using flat review can be found at:
https://help.gnome.org/users/orca/stable/commands_flat_review.html.en
On a desktop, the Orca modifier is the insert key. On a laptop, the Orca
modifier is the Caps lock key, if laptop layout is set in Orca's preferences.

No, th fix #3 does not work, nor the GRUB or EFI boot loader setup fail,
Ubuntu 18.04 can not be installed with this, the bug is still there.

Title:
(EFI on top of legacy install) choosing "replace" or "resize" options
in partitioning may lead to an install failure

Status in partman-efi package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in ubiquity package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
If I have existing data on disk built by a previous version of Ubuntu
(in BIOS (legacy) mode, or a previous Windows install, and no EFI
system partition on disk; the installer presents three choices:

  - Replace $existing and reinstall. (if a previous Ubuntu install was found)
  - Resize and install
  - Erase disk and install.

The first two options will attempt to complete the installation in EFI
mode (as they should) but do not create an EFI system partition, which
is required as a place to put shim and grub on disk for booting. The
installer will then crash / fail as grub-install fails to find the ESP
  when copying the bootloader.

The last option works correctly, it creates the ESP as it erases the
entire disks and proceeds with new partitioning.

[Bug 1767539] [NEW] Security fixes from 0.12.5 require backfit to earlier releases

2018-04-27 Thread Scott Kitterman
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

A recent upstream release contains two security fixes. All supported
Ubuntu releases are affected.

  * SECURITY UPDATE: quasselcore, corruption of heap metadata caused by
qdatastream
- debian/patches/Implement_custom_deserializer.patch: Original patch from
upstream 0.12.5 release, adapted for non-C++ 11 systems by Felix Geyer
- CVE requested by upstream
  * SECURITY UPDATE: quasselcore, denial of service for unconfigure core
- debian/patches/Reject_clients_that_attempt_to_login_before_the_core_is
_configured.patch: Original patch from upstream 0.12.5 release, adapted
for non-C++ 11 systems by Felix Geyer
- CVE requested by upstream

I'll be attaching a debdiff for Trusty, but not later releases as that
is the only Ubuntu release I still have an interest in. Note that the
debian/changelog doesn't have the LP bug number in it since I haven't
filed it yet. The trusty fix is based on the Debian patches for Jessie
(Debian 8):

https://salsa.debian.org/qt-kde-team/kde-extras/quassel/tree/jessie

I'm running the fixed version now.
