Re: [Bug 1767703] Re: Calling 'apt-install grub-efi-amd64-signed' failed
Lenovo Z570 If you create a /boot/efi partition (Fat32) first Ubuntu 18.04 installs BUT you cannot boot Windows 7 which is install legacy/bios boot. The only way I could solve it was to delete all the partitions and reinstall Windows 7 in UEFI boot mode. Then you can install 18.04 and boot either OS at startup. Of course you have to keep all your data somewhere else. I got the computer second hand so I didn't have any apps or data on it. [Bug 1772467] Re: Driver iwlwifi for Intel Wireless-AC 9560 is slow and unreliable in kernel 4.15.0-20-generic
apport information ** Description changed: This is a hardware specific issue with Ubuntu 18.04 and kernel 4.15.0-20-generic. The driver for the Intel AC 9560 wireless chip causes the problem. Driver location: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/05511 /network-and-i-o/wireless-networking.html The wifi connection is very slow (1MB instead of 100MB possible download speed, upload speed is normal) and is also very unreliable. When installing the 4.16 kernel from mainline kernel http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.16/ the described problem is solved. On bug LP: #771719: it's said "Pressing the power button should not start the shutdown sequence once the installer has started writing files to the disk." IMHO: Option 1: "Remove / Hide power button as installer has started writing files to the disk". Option 2: "Prompt user that system will in a no-working state if he insist to power down or reboot. [Bug 1706605] Re: Libreoffice crashed
João Gabriel, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal: cd /var/crash && sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y upgrade && sudo apt-get -y install libreoffice-dbg uno-libs3-dbg ure-dbg && sudo service apport start force_start=1 If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. If you run the command against the crash report and a window pops up asking you to report this, but then never opens a new report, you would be affected by https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/994921 . In order to WORKAROUND this, one would need to open the following file via a command line: sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf and comment out the line: 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], by changing it to: # 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via: ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash Please follow https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LibreOfficeBugWrangling when you file this crash report so the necessary information is provided. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and reopen it. As well, please do not announce in this report you created a new bug report. Thank you for your help. [Bug 1770528] Re: Purging of old backup - Simple cut-off is not happening
It's a bit tricky to come up with simple description. IMHO examples are the best way how to demonstrate the functionality, so, please find below what I would include in the documentation/help for the Simple Backup Suite. ~~~ Purging Is the instrument to keep your backup lean and prevents your data storage from overfilling in conjunction with your overall backup strategy. It's triggered at the end of a successful backup execution. The removal of old backups can be configured in two ways: - Simple cut-off: Erase all backups older than "n" days. To prevent unwanted data lost in the case when using INCREMENTAL backups, Sbackup will only remove all the backups that are before the parent (FULL) of the INCREMENTAL (child) backups. In other words, the result of modulo operation of the "n" days and the frequency of FULL backup should be 0 to achieve desired effect. Example 1 (incorrect setting): Do FULL backup once every 7 days ("f"=7) Simple cut-off: Erase backups older than 10 days ("n"=10) n mod f = 3 ... which is NOT 0. In this case, only backups older then 14 days shall be purged (14 mod 7 = 0), because if it would done that simple cut-off, it would leave 2 INCREMENTAL (orphans) backups without their FULL (parent) backup 2018-05-01.Ubuntu.ful/ <-- CUTOFF 2018-05-02.Ubuntu.inc/ <-- CUTOFF 2018-05-03.Ubuntu.inc/ <-- CUTOFF 2018-05-04.Ubuntu.inc/ <-- CUTOFF 2018-05-05.Ubuntu.inc/ <-- CUTOFF 2018-05-06.Ubuntu.inc/ 2018-05-07.Ubuntu.inc/ 2018-05-08.Ubuntu.ful/ 2018-05-09.Ubuntu.inc/ 2018-05-10.Ubuntu.inc/ 2018-05-11.Ubuntu.inc/ 2018-05-12.Ubuntu.inc/ 2018-05-13.Ubuntu.inc/ 2018-05-14.Ubuntu.inc/ 2018-05-15.Ubuntu.ful/ Example 2 (correct setup): Do FULL backup once every 7 days ("f"=7) Simple cut-off: Erase backups older than 7 days ("n"=7) n mod f = 0 which means, in this case, it will keep backups up to 2 weeks. [Bug 1772575] [NEW] Kernel 4.4 NBD size overflow with image size exceeding 1TB
Public bug reported: Release 16.04, kernel 4.4.0-124-generic There's an issue in kernel's NBD module which prevents some larger images to be correctly "connected" , largely described here: https://github.com/NetworkBlockDevice/nbd/issues/44 There is a small patch here that was accepted into mainline 4.10: https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-block/msg07060.html This is a regression from the previous LTS 3.13 kernel. Here is a small example of the faulty behaviour: # qemu-img create -f qcow2 test.img 1100G Formatting 'test.img', fmt=qcow2 size=1181116006400 cluster_size=65536 lazy_refcounts=off refcount_bits=16 # qemu-nbd -c /dev/nbd0 test.img # blockdev --getsize64 /dev/nbd0 18446743055802302464 The correct response would be 1181116006400; this breaks most tools and makes the image unusable, e.g. # fdisk -l /dev/nbd0 fdisk: cannot open /dev/nbd0: Invalid argument ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1772575 Title: Kernel 4.4 NBD size overflow with image size exceeding 1TB To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1772575/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I finally managed to have a working 4.16.10 kernel (touchpad, gesture, buttons, sdcard, sound, etc...). [Bug 1772557] [NEW] FREETYPE_PROPERTIES environment variable is not respected
Public bug reported: As stated by the Freetype documentation, I should be able to use `FREETYPE_PROPERTIES` to control some options such as whether TrueType fonts are hinted using Hinting Engine v35 or v40, or whether stem darkening for CFF(i.e. OpenType PostScript Flavor) fonts are enabled. I think this should work in everything that uses FreeType, but apparently it doesn't work in Gnome-Terminal. It does work in xterm, and even xfce4-terminal, which also uses libVTE to provide terminal emulation. Actual Results: `FREETYPE_PROPERTIES` doesn't take effect. Expected Results: Should work as in xterm or xfce4-terminal. Additional Information: I'm on Ubuntu 18.04, with gnome-terminal 3.28.1. The correctly working xfce4-terminal's version is 0.8.7.3. ** Affects: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "xfce4-terminal (left) vs gnome-terminal (right)" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1772557/+attachment/5142674/+files/freetype_properties.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1772557 Title: FREETYPE_PROPERTIES environment variable is not respected To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1772557/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1740865] Re: gnome-software (5) g_realloc → g_array_maybe_expand → g_array_set_size → g_byte_array_set_size → read_cb
** Description changed: - The Ubuntu Error Tracker has been receiving reports about a problem regarding gnome-software. This problem was most recently seen with package version 3.26.3-2ubuntu1, the problem page at https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/d94c431d27115bab216f9e1ea756f876e7cd933b contains more details, including versions of packages affected, stacktrace or traceback, and individual crash reports. - If you do not have access to the Ubuntu Error Tracker and are a software developer, you can request it at http://forms.canonical.com/reports/. + [Impact] + snapd-glib can do an invalid memory access when parsing HTTP chunked data. Found doing code inspection and testing based on crash reports. + + [Test Case] + No specific trigger - just look for reduced reports on errors.ubuntu.com. + + [Regression Potential] + Some risk of further breaking HTTP handling in snapd-glib. Updated algorithm tested in a test program run through valgrind to give confidence in the changes. + + Error reports: + + https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/d94c431d27115bab216f9e1ea756f876e7cd933b ** Changed in: snapd-glib (Ubuntu Bionic) Assignee: (unassigned) => Robert Ancell (robert-ancell) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1740865 Title: gnome-software (5) g_realloc → g_array_maybe_expand → g_array_set_size → g_byte_array_set_size → read_cb To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/snapd-glib/+bug/1740865/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
