[Bug 1760910] Re: Gdebi crash in Ubuntu Studio 18.04

2018-05-27 Thread Francis Marsden
I found a solution. Installed package " lxqt-sudo " using synaptic and
changed the exec line in gdebi.desktop to " Exec=lxqt-sudo gdebi-gtk %f
" and now gdebi works ok. Is it safe in general to use lxqt-sudo for
graphical applications in Xubuntu 18.04?

[Bug 1767857] Re: Kernel 4.4.0-122 Breaks qemu-system-x86

2018-05-27 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
You also said this only applies to the full 32bit stack for you (32bit host +
guest) is that correct?
Had you the chance to try the same on 64bit host to know if this is a real
constraint to see this issue? It would at least explain why I didn't see it as
I had 32bit-Guest on 64-bit Host.

Never the less, this more and more seems to be a kernel bug if
a) you all can point it so clearly to these kernel versions
b) affecting qemu's from Trusty to Bionic

I'll directly ask one in the kernel Team to pop up on their radar.

0 profiles are in complain mode.
0 processes have profiles defined.

Does anybody have a suggestion for how to investigate further?

[Bug 1766940] Re: Wifi interface does often not show up after reboot

2018-05-27 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Julian Bieringer-Hinterbuchinger, unfortunately, it didn't appear to
work.

As per below, what is supposed to happen is a web browser opens to a
Launchpad URL where you log in, and then give permission to upload the
requested data.

Did you do all of these steps?

apport-collect 1766940
The authorization page:

should be opening in your browser. Use your browser to authorize
this program to access Launchpad on your behalf.
Waiting to hear from Launchpad about your decision...

You need to actually downgrade your running kernel to 4.13. Just
downgrading the headers isn't enough.

[Bug 1773484] Re: Login screen not moved to used monitor

2018-05-27 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Manfred Steiner:

1) What is "Beamer"? Is this a program available from the Ubuntu
repositories, a piece of hardware, etc.?

2) To clarify the table in #10, it appears the only part that isn't as
expected is how after configuring the Internal LCD to be off and VGA to
be active, you restart, and at the login screen the Internal LCD is
turned on, while the external VGA is not displaying. However, you are
expecting that the external VGA is on, while Internal LCD is off.
Correct?

To use your table to further clarify:

.. Connected ... Internal LCD ... VGA...GOOD?
-
First time ... Monitor on VGA .. L+S E ... Yes
After Login .. Monitor on VGA .. S .. E ... Yes
After reconfiguration Monitor on VGA .. Off S ... Yes
After Restart Monitor on VGA .. Off L+S . Yes
After Login .. Monitor on VGA .. Off S ... Yes
Restart with Beamer .. Beamer on VGA ... L+S E ... No
Restart with Monitor . Monitor on VGA .. L+S E ... No
After Login .. Monitor on VGA .. Off S ... Yes

[Bug 1767594] Re: Ubuntu-18.04 Installation/Upgrade freezes/does not work.

2018-05-27 Thread Deepankar Gupta
Hi I found work around from the link below
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2349782

1. When you see the loader to "Install Ubuntu" etc ... press "e" and edit a
line:
Replace "quiet splash" to "nomodeset" and press F10 to boot.

Then after the installation is complete, you will have to reboot.

2. This time you will now encounter the GRUB. Again, press "e" and edit a line:
In the line that starts with "linux", add "nouveau.modeset=0" at the end of
that line.

Your Linux should now boot.

P.S. Mark the thread as solved if this solves the issue
3. After this, you need to install the nvidia drivers. Reboot. And then it's
done.

[Bug 1769980] Re: Intel WiFi Linux driver update for ETSI 5GHz Adaptivity Requirement

2018-05-27 Thread Anthony Wong
** Description changed:

Intel wireless driver and firmware require updates in order to meet the
new ETSI regulation [1] for OEM machines shipped from factories.

Intel provided us the following information for what are required to
  update:

  1. Kernel driver:

  https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/10322121/
  https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/10312731/
  https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/10312735/
  https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/10312733/

  - 7260, 7265, 7265D and 3168 NICs, 4.15 plus above driver patches
  - 8000 series requires 4.16.
  - 9000 series requires 4.17.

  2. linux-firmware
  Requires latest versions from linux-firmware.git

  3. wireless-regdb update

  [1]

http://www.etsi.org/deliver/etsi_en/301800_301899/301893/02.01.01_60/en_301893v020101p.pdf

  ---
  == SRU Justification for linux-firmware ==
  [Impact]
Intel released these firmware updates to support the new ETSI 5GHz Adaptivity
Requirement, OEM has to meet it in order to ship.

  [Test Case]
Check dmesg to confirm the correct firmware is loaded, make sure the revision
is correct, and check wifi can functions properly.

  [Regression Potential]
It is possible that there is regression introduced by Intel's firmware, so
should make sure wifi still works properly after the new firmware is used. We
have verified the new firmwares of 7260 and 7265D on 4.4
and 4.15 kernels. The 8000 and 9000 series firmwares have newer API versions
and will need to confirm with subsequent driver changes.
-
- == SRU Justification for crda ==
- [Impact]
- We need crda to include Seth Forshee's public key to support wireless-regdb's
new format.
-
- [Test Case]
- Check the key is installed at /lib/crda/pubkeys/sforshee.key.pub.pem.
-
- [Regression Potential]
- As this is a new file, no regression should happen.

2018-05-27 Thread Simon Déziel
I've attached debdiffs for Xenial to Bionic. Please let me know if
something needs a rework.

For Cosmic, all that's needed is a sync from Debian. Merge-o-matic
didn't do it due to the Ubuntu delta but fortunately this delta was
adopted by Debian with Unbound 1.7.1-1. Should I open a new LP to ask
for that "force" sync?

[Bug 1773719] [NEW] live server depends on arguably buggy systemd-networkd behaviour to avoid slow boot

2018-05-27 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
If there default network configuration does not actually get a server online,
the live server installer only avoids a long delay by dint of relying on some
dubious behaviour of networkd: if all interfaces are marked optional: true,
systemd-networkd-wait-online does not wait. If we want to fix this bug so that
systemd-networkd-wait-online.service means the machine is actually online, then
the live server installers boot will be slow.

The fix, already present in cosmic, is to just symlink systemd-networkd-
wait-online to /bin/true.

[Test plan]
Boot the live server installer in a VM with no NICs, or with nics that do not
have an answering dhcp.

[Regression potential]
As the boot behaviour is not changed (i.e. boot is not delayed even if there is
no network) there should be no subtle regressions once the basic bits have been
verified to work.

[Bug 1773597] Re: USB flash drive won't mount

2018-05-27 Thread Roy Kimbrell
After a reboot, inserted encrypted USB flash drive (32G Lexar). Waited
about 15 minutes and the request for the password was displayed. I
entered the password, but nothing happened. Waited five minutes - then
rebooted with the drive still inserted. It was not recognized (by
Nautilus) upon completion of the reboot. Removed and inserted and it was
eventually recognized, but no window asking for a password showed until
I opened the "file cabinet" and clicked on the drive listed on the left.
A request for password then appeared. I entered the password and was
able to open the drive. However after about ten minutes, I could not
open any files - a lock icon appeared on the file icon. Removed the USB
flash drive and rebooted.

[Bug 1773665] Re: gdm-x-session crash: glamor_composite_largepixmap_region: Assertion `0' failed.

2018-05-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your bug report is missing crash details. In
order to debug a crash we will need a crash report. To create one,
please follow these steps:

1. If you are not running a future development release of Ubuntu then apply the
workaround from bug 994921.
2. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport.
3. If the crash is in Xorg then uncomment this option from
/etc/gdm3/custom.conf:
   # Additionally lets the X server dump core if it crashes
   #Enable=true
4. Reboot.
5. Reproduce the crash.
6. Look in /var/crash for crash files and when found, run:
   ubuntu-bug /var/crash/YOURFILE.crash
7. Add a comment here telling us the ID of the new bug that was created in step
6.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments, and doing so is also a
security risk for yourself.

[Bug 1760910] Re: Gdebi crash in Ubuntu Studio 18.04

2018-05-27 Thread Francis Marsden
Same problem here, using Xubuntu 18.04. (Clean install, not upgrade) If
I click on a .deb file and choose "open with gdebi", the gui opens and
checks for depencies, but when "install" is clicked the gui disappears
(crashes). But if I open gdebi via terminal, it works fine.

[Bug 1718482] Re: byobu launch unknown icon on Ubuntu Dock

2018-05-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package byobu - 5.126-0ubuntu1

---
byobu (5.126-0ubuntu1) cosmic; urgency=medium

  [ Dustin Kirkland ]
  * usr/lib/byobu/include/constants, usr/share/byobu/keybindings/f-
keys.screen, usr/share/byobu/keybindings/f-keys.tmux:
- create a $BYOBU_EDITOR variable, using "sensible-editor" if found
(it will be on Debian/Ubuntu systems), or $EDITOR if not, and falling
back to "vim" in the case where none are found
- use $BYOBU_EDITOR with Shift-F7 to open the printscreen buffer in
a new window; this fixes a bug on some distros where $EDITOR might
  be undefined
  * usr/lib/byobu/session:
- don't count sessions that start with _
- BUG: #892489
  * usr/lib/byobu/include/shutil, usr/lib/byobu/logo:
- add a logo for gLinux

  [ Mark Kelly ]
  * usr/lib/byobu/updates_available:
- Fix rare race condition for update_needed and cache file (#26)

  [ Didier Roche ]
  * byobu.desktop:
- give some hints for GNOME Shell to correctly match byobu desktop file
(LP: #1718482); partial fix, not entirely working yet
