[Bug 1774426] [NEW] Gnome-mpv failed to playback then closed unexpectedly
Public bug reported: [Software information] OS: Lubuntu 18.04 LTS i686 Kernel: 4.15.0-22-generic gnome-mpv: 0.13-1ubuntu1 This bug has a couple of points in common with Bug #1750362. When I play various audio/video files (known to play fine on Lubuntu 17.10) from the file manager (pcmanfm), gnome-mpv (0.13-1ubuntu1) crashes and show an error dialogue box with message "Failed to apply one or more MPV options." It has "OK" button but the entire program disappering immediately in one second after the error dialogue box shown. The same behavior happens when I try to play the A/V files from the terminal, it shows the same message as before, except the program doesn't disappering until I click the "OK" button in the error dialogue box. These error messages shown in the terminal: --- ** (gnome-mpv:3887): WARNING **: 21:58:34.097: Failed to run mpv command string "keyup". Reason: core not uninitialized. (gnome-mpv:3887): GLib-CRITICAL **: 21:58:34.781: g_variant_new_object_path: assertion 'g_variant_is_object_path (object_path)' failed Segmentation fault (core dumped) --- This bug just happens in gnome-mpv. Any A/V files plays without any problem in mpv. For additional information, my system was upgraded from Lubuntu 17.10. However, the same bug also happens in live Lubuntu 18.04 (booted from my thumb drive). [Bug 1774425] [NEW] i915 driver limits virtual resolution to 8192x8192
Public bug reported: I have an Intel Iris Pro 580 in my Intel Skull Canyon NUC6I7KYK, a nice little device that has 3 video outputs: * HDMI 2.0 * Mini DisplayPort * Thunderbolt USB-C The product specifications states that the device is able to output three 4K signals. Unfortunately, whenever I tried this in Ubuntu it failed, without any clear error message. After fiddling with other DEs, Kubuntu told me the virtual resolution was not supported. And indeed, as soon as I limited the virtual resolution of the 3 screens to fit in 8192x8192 pixels, all screens worked. Apparently, the i915 driver (in "drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_display.c") has not been updated for newer devices when reporting the maximum resolution. As you can see here: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_display.c#L14671 Only GEN_2 & GEN_3 are checked for, but since the 7th generation max virtual resolutions of 16384x16384 are supported. Public bug reported: According to https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pgpool2/+publishinghistory pgpool2 is not longer available for Ubuntu 18.04 I asked it on Answers and got a suggestion to open a bug for 18.04 https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pgpool2/+question/669806 Not having pgpool means we can't use Postgresl in real production setup (with high availability, failover and load balancing). There are other solutions but they are not so feature-rich like pgpool2. As 18.04 is LTS version, it means for real production we should either roll back to 16.04 (which has quite old Postgres) or switch to another distribution which supports pgpool2. Manual installation is possible but not really an option for production system as we also need security updates. Please add pgpool2 back to Ubuntu 18.04. [Bug 1766675] Re: while installing the os , it says didn't found the GRUB boot loader and the installation failed
Your disk is currently partitioned to boot in bios mode, but you booted the installer in EFI mode. You either need to perform the bios mode install, or partition the disk using GPT and set up an EFI system partition to install in EFI mode. [Bug 1774417] Re: systemd-logind: do_ypcall: clnt_call: RPC: Unable to send; errno = Operation not permitted
Well, on Ubuntu we do not have nss-nis package. As libnss_nis is shipped in libc6, and thus available everywhere. Thus adding a depends or a drop-in is a non-starter as well it would be installed by default everywhere. [Bug 1774421] [NEW] [X555LA, Realtek ALC3236, Speaker, Internal] No sound when switching from HDMI to internal audio
Public bug reported: When switching from HDMI audio to internal speakers, the sound stops working altogether. The only way to prevent this is to enter the settings while still connected to HDMI and select "Speakers - Built in audio" as the output. Disconnecting from HDMI without doing this stops any audio playing through internal speakers or headphones (including the speaker test in settings). It was expected that disconnecting a HDMI output would automatically change the sound output to internal speakers. Attempting to click "Speakers - Built in audio" when disconnected from HDMI has no effect, the only way to remedy this is to reconnect the device to HDMI and select the above output. This means if the device is removed from HDMI and taken to another location, no sound can be used until a HDMI output can be found and connected. Rebooting has mixed effects, on one occasion a reboot restored the sound, however on all others it does not. The test tones DID play during the debug process however this is the only sounds I can get to play. The version of Ubuntu is 18.04 LTS. [Bug 1774120] Re: ebtables cannot be upgraded from 2.0.10.4-3.5ubuntu2 to 2.0.10.4-3.5ubuntu2.18.04.1 on WSL
The problem is that on WSL, it appears creating a raw socket is failing: sockfd = socket(AF_INET, SOCK_RAW, PF_INET); if (sockfd < 0) { ebt_print_error("Problem getting a socket, " "you probably don't have the right " "permissions"); ret = -1; That failure isn't going to happen on any 'actual' Linux system (baremetal, vm, or container) - unless you don't have permissions, as the error says. When upgrading a package using apt/dpkg on 'actual' Linux, you will have root access, and so will have permission to create a raw socket. So this is strictly a WSL problem. Also, this is not a regression - the ebtables init script has behaved this way since trusty (and before). Since the ebtables project is essentially dead upstream, the package is very rarely updated and so WSL users simply haven't noticed this before because they haven't upgraded ebtables before. However, as it's a trivial fix to the ebtables init script, and presumably a difficult fix to WSL, please test with the package from this ppa: https://launchpad.net/~ddstreet/+archive/ubuntu/lp1774120 I think that should fix the problem for you - it will still print out a failure/warning message, but it should not break apt package upgrade. Note that I can't test this myself since I have no access to WSL. ** Also affects: ebtables (Ubuntu Cosmic) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Also affects: ebtables (Ubuntu Artful) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: ebtables (Ubuntu Trusty) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: ebtables (Ubuntu Xenial) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: ebtables (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: ebtables (Ubuntu Trusty) Status: New => In Progress ** Changed in: ebtables (Ubuntu Xenial) Status: New => In Progress ** Changed in: ebtables (Ubuntu Artful) Status: New => In Progress ** Changed in: ebtables (Ubuntu Bionic) Status: New => In Progress ** Changed in: ebtables (Ubuntu Cosmic) Status: Confirmed => In Progress ** Changed in: ebtables (Ubuntu Cosmic) Assignee: (unassigned) => Dan Streetman (ddstreet) ** Changed in: ebtables (Ubuntu Bionic) Assignee: (unassigned) => Dan Streetman (ddstreet) ** Changed in: ebtables (Ubuntu Artful) Assignee: (unassigned) => Dan Streetman (ddstreet) ** Changed in: ebtables (Ubuntu Xenial) Assignee: (unassigned) => Dan Streetman (ddstreet) ** Changed in: ebtables (Ubuntu Trusty) Assignee: (unassigned) => Dan Streetman (ddstreet) ** Changed in: ebtables (Ubuntu Cosmic) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: ebtables (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: ebtables (Ubuntu Artful) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: ebtables (Ubuntu Xenial) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: ebtables (Ubuntu Trusty) Importance: Undecided => Low -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1774120 Title: ebtables cannot be upgraded from 2.0.10.4-3.5ubuntu2 to 2.0.10.4-3.5ubuntu2.18.04.1 on WSL To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ebtables/+bug/1774120/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1702793] Re: Full backport SRU for unattended-upgrades
** Description changed: [Impact] * I would like to propose a one-off full backport of unattended-upgrades 1.2ubuntu1 to Bionic, Artful, Xenial and possibly Trusty releases because selectively backporting fixes for crashes and for issues that made u-u unreliable would be more risky thanks to the huge number of fixes and the inter-dependencies between them. [Test Case] * Since this backport involves fixing several bugs and this bug itself covers the full backport I suggest that this bug should be considered verified when the following list of bugs are verified: - - TODO add most important bugs + - TODO add most important bugs and the following tests are passing: - - TODO add tests not covered by bugs above + - TODO add tests not covered by bugs above [Regression Potential] * Due to this update covering the full backport unattended-upgrades can regress in any imaginable way including failing to install, upgrade, run, or removing essential packages from the system. Those are unlikely. * There are open bugs about u-u being slower than in the past, thus this may be a likely regression but IMO the pending speed optimizations should not be blocking the backport because the reliability issues are more important to fix and speed optimizations can be cherry-picked later. + * LP: #1773033 is a regression causing u-u to not install upgrades on shutdown when the system was started on battery. I have a WIP fix and can add the fix to the SRU if needed. [Other Info] I asked for an exception for the package in following the SRU process: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-release/2018-May/004479.html I'm preparing the backport in ppa:rbalint/scratch and also run autopkgtests on it in addition to testing it manually in VMs. [Original Bug Text] Changes to support day-of-week patching and logging to syslog were added to upstream (https://github.com/mvo5/unattended-upgrades) over a year ago. [Bug 1774400] Re: USB 3.0 HDMI Capture Devices don't work any more
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1774400/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1773157] Re: procps outdated network options, old syncookies, new ecn update please.
Right -- systemd have just-now agreed to set the change in their upstream systemd sysctl files :- https://github.com/systemd/systemd/commit/6f130e85c76cfc2c58ba31f90d2ac3800866c1dd I notice, however, that ubuntu's systemd pkg 'strips most those settings out', in 18.04 currently only carrying the 18.04 fq_codel switch-on in their sysctl.d I think, given what has been said, I would like to propose that I :- * Make a suggested text for a 10-network-bufferbloat.conf here in procps in 18.10 (hopefully-onwards, including suitable references/comments about BBR (which should be there but commented/not- enabled yet unless we are sure its' been fixed to respond to ECN notifications.). This text shall explain clearly these are deliberately being tested into 18.10 and where to report bugs. * Look at what ubuntu's systemd package towards 18.10 is importing in sysctl.d -- and likely suggest ubuntu 'taken out' entirely so procps is the 'one' location for these settings (i.e. no duplicate setting of qdisc=fq_codel in 2 different places). Some will want to boot ubuntu with OpenRC or upstart for whatever reasons and consistent-behaviour would be helpful... * Ask in the BBR community about tcp_congestion_control goings-on there, when they are ready for ECN-compatible BBR wider-deployment. * Then, as/when seems appropriate, suggest changes into upstream-debian and upstream-kernel on the defaults. @rbalint -- what do you think on this plan for the interim? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1773157 Title: procps outdated network options, old syncookies, new ecn update please. [Bug 1771545] Re: root.key might be missing
Simon, thank you very much for taking over. I am very much with your proposal: Moving that script from unbound to unbound-anchor plus making unbound-anchor a dependency of libunbound2. That was my first thought as well. However, there might be another approach: The package "dns-root-data" is not just in Universe but in Main and is one of the sources of that root.key already. Perhaps it is easier to update the package "dns-root-data" manually and then - simply symlink the root.keys or/and - change libunbound2 to use that root.key on default directly (set at compile time). With such an approach, no script and no timer would be needed. Nevertheless, I am not sure whether this approached is "allowed" security vise because an (additional) individual has control about the root.key – at least in Debian world, then. Andreas, yes that other report is about the very same symptom. I completely forgot to mention that report as I found this issue and that report already with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. I was not able to investigate this issue until now. Thanks for adding it. My report is a bit broader because it affects all apps which rely on libunbound2 actually. But yes, the cause is the very same. By the way in that other report, to answer the section ‘PS’ asked by Thue-Janus: unbound-host must be invoked with parameter -D to trigger the expected error. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1771545 Title: root.key might be missing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unbound/+bug/1771545/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1772936] Re: Apparmor enforcment blocks image permissions in libvirtd
Christian Thanks again for your help. Sorry for the delay on this. So a simple test of apparmor=0 on the kernel command line resolved the issue. > You can either try to consume it via libvirt xml entries (but I assume you > need the nvme > type configs that libvirt doesn't expose yet) Correct, I need the use_cmb_mb entry in the NVMe drive type and libvirt has no support for that. > any similar pattern by modifying /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/libvirt- qemu and adding a rule. This worked. > I really doubt this can be update related, as the same would not have worked > since > libvirt/qemu have apparmor support, which seems like a decade ago. I did have this working before but perhaps apparmor had been disabled (by me) and then re-enabled. Anyway I can't reproduce it so I suggest we close for now. [Bug 1760104] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV
So, the pauses I am experiencing is likely due to simply the fact that the keyboards and mice are being removed then added back, which is a different issue than the crashes (which appear nvidia related). I will likely create a PR to only trigger the input subsystem on an as-needed base to reduce the annoying pauses we see during refreshes. Alan reported back on irc that the for loop did *not* trigger the crash which is good for snapd. Looking at the error reports, both are in the /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg binary: * https://errors.ubuntu.com/bucket/?id=/usr/lib/xorg/Xorg%3A11%3Axf86ReadInput%3AInputReady%3Aospoll_wait%3AInputThreadDoWork%3Astart_thread * https://errors.ubuntu.com/bucket/?id=/usr/lib/xorg/Xorg%3A11%3Amain_arena%3AInputReady%3Aospoll_wait%3AInputThreadDoWork%3Astart_thread which have numerous reports. [Bug 1773449] Re: VMs do not survive host reboot
I would like to add I have also seen this when using Ceph as a backend on a Pike deployment. I have fixed several VMs, by performing the following process (note this can potentially wreck the VM, so be careful): Shutdown VM Create RBD snapshot (for backup purposes) Export the RBD disk as an image Then, setup the image as a loop device Run FSCK on the loop device Weirdly, a lot of times this wasn't enough, so I then had to: Mount the loop device on a (Ceph) host Umount the loop device Re-import the image back into Ceph, overwriting the existing image (or move existing, whatever) This then allowed me to continue booting VM as normal. I have tried using a recovery image on the VM and running fsck against the RBD device, but to no avail. Hopefully this may aid in investigation or help someone out. I'm doing that with: $ xinput --set-prop 'TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint' 'libinput Accel Profile Enabled' 0, 1 I assumed setting "Flat" in the "Acceleration Profile" setting of the "Mouse" settings in Tweaks would do the same but that setting doesn't seem to do anything. Since the command above only applies to the Xorg session I don't even know how to fix this issue on Wayland. [Bug 1773959] Re: High CPU usage by gnome-shell when only running gnome-terminal
Just tested this on Wayland and the situation seems slightly better. The same test (just the terminal, no extensions) is about 2-3% of CPU usage (compares with less than 1% for compiz) and when I turn on extensions (particularly system monitor) it goes to 5-7%. Not great but better. Great work on that list of issues. I don't mean just speed I've also found a bunch of other polish issues like the scaling. I'm just surprised gnome-shell is still this rough after so many years of development. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1773959 Title: High CPU usage by gnome-shell when only running gnome-terminal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1773959/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
