[Bug 1666884] Re: libytnef: February 2017 multiple vulnerabilities (X41-2017-002)
Hey Seth, have a look at the last two comments in the original ticket for the first CVE that was reported: https://github.com/Yeraze/ytnef/issues/45#issuecomment-393044169 . The PR with the proper fix for the CVE mentioned there (https://github.com/Yeraze/ytnef/pull/58) has already been merged by the maintainer. Note it depends on at least one other PR as well. The person that developed that ytnef PR did so after looking at adding TNEF support to Geary and noticing that ytnef was reasonably broken on some distros, including Ubuntu. Looking into it, it seems those where it is broken shipped the patch from the original CVE. Recently some additional issues have been reported, there's a yet-to-be- merged PR for those as well: https://github.com/Yeraze/ytnef/pull/71 ** Bug watch added: github.com/Yeraze/ytnef/issues #45 https://github.com/Yeraze/ytnef/issues/45 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1666884 Title: libytnef: February 2017 multiple vulnerabilities (X41-2017-002) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libytnef/+bug/1666884/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1773113] Re: nvidia-390 does not show GUI
I have what seems to be a similar problem. Have a machine with stock Ubuntu 18.04 clean install. Ran fine with latest recommended proprietary driver for over 2 weeks. Then Friday the 15th June, 2018 it refuses to use the proprietary drivers. The latest Kernel version will not even show the login screen, just hangs in the tty 1. The previous kernel shows the login screen, but it is choppy and will not accept valid login credentials. Also, noticed that lspci shows that only nvidiafb and nouveau modules are loaded, no drm or nvidi_xxx. I have purged and installed three different sets of drivers with no success thus far. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1773113 Title: nvidia-390 does not show GUI To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-390/+bug/1773113/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The issue reported in comment #108 is still present in kernel 4.15.3: 4.15.3-041503-generic #201802120730 [4.645868] [drm:intel_enable_lvds [i915]] *ERROR* timed out waiting for panel to power on It is also present in kernel 4.15.18. However, it is not present in kernel 4.16.16 and it is also not present in kernel 4.17.2. All kernels were downloaded from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ and installed with sudo dpkg -i The latest kernel offered by Ubuntu 18.04 is still 4.15.0, but that one already fixes the original issue with the X Windows not working, at least it does so on Toshiba Portege laptop. [Bug 1767963] [NEW] Adding new panel applets in Mutiny layout is complicated
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Ubuntu MATE 18.04, using Mutiny layout. I would like to add a workspace switcher to the left-hand Launcher panel. This has been problematic. I'm not sure whether these are actually separate issues, nor am I sure which packages they should actually be filed against. Issue 1: this is almost impossible. To add a new panel applet, one right-clicks on the panel and chooses "Add to panel". However, this only works if one is clicking on the panel itself, not an applet _within_ that panel. And the left-hand Launcher panel doesn't have any spare space; all space within it is taken up by Brisk menu, the Wastebasket applet, and (mostly) the Dock applet. So there's nowhere to click to add to this panel. I eventually discovered that the very bottom left corner is not owned by the Wastebasket applet (which arguably it should be!) so one can add to this panel by right-clicking there, but there should be a much easier way to do this. Issue 2: once a workspace switcher is added to the panel as above, the Wastebasket applet disappears. I do not know whether this is because it's actually gone, or if it's pushed off the bottom of the screen (the left-hand panel is not scrollable as far as I can tell, and does not collapse when oversized as per the Unity Launcher that it's imitating, so there's no way to get at applets that are off the bottom of the screen). ** Affects: mate-dock-applet (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed -- Adding new panel applets in Mutiny layout is complicated https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1767963 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1777285] [NEW] Batch libreoffice --convert-to offers no way to wait for document completion
Public bug reported: Command-line: libreoffice --convert-to odt:writer8 myfile.txt The returned status code ($?) is zero. So far, so good. But, when I try to access the ODT file (E.g. copy it), it doesn't yet exist. Adding `sync; sync; sync` right after the libreoffice batch execution did not help. Adding --headless as an option did not help. If I sleep for a few seconds immediately after the libreoffice batch execution, then the file finally gets completed before a subsequent command references the ODT file. Sample script: ### Create somehow a file called myfile.txt rm myfile.odt somewhere-else.odt libreoffice --headless --convert-to odt:writer8 myfile.txt RC=$? if [ $RC -ne 0 ]; then echo '*** libreoffice conversion failed for myfile.txt' exit 86 fi #sleep 3 ls *.odt Result: ls: cannot access '*.odt': No such file or directory If one changes the above script so that the sleep is executed, then the ODT file is available. Observation: It appears that executing libreoffice in batch mode is somehow kicking off a separate process to finish the ODT file. The exit to the shell and the availability of the ODT file should be synchronized. Before 18.04, I never saw this behavior. [Bug 1777238] Re: video lag
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: The problem exists for months and I didn't find a good answer on it. It affects many softwares: Cheese, Super Tux Cart, VLC (when I rewind the video the sounds continues, but the video stops), youtube, Hangouts and every software where video is played. I experienced that there are 2 things that can break it: - if I move the mouse out and in on the affected window (it doesn't work in full screen) - if I open the system monitor, the problem also disappears other people also face with this problem: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/447696/ubuntu-16-04-18-04-video-playback-lags-stutters https://askubuntu.com/questions/1032035/ubuntu-18-04-budgie-desktop-video-lag-youtube-twitch-in-chrome https://askubuntu.com/questions/1030074/my-video-player-in-ubuntu-18-04-lts-lags/1030194 https://askubuntu.com/questions/1030155/youtube-video-lag-on-18-04 Ubuntu 4.15.0-23.25-generic 4.15.18 it was upgraded from 16.04 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: cheese 3.28.0-1ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-23.25-generic 4.15.18 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-23-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.2 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Sat Jun 16 14:34:26 2018 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/cheese InstallationDate: Installed on 2016-08-04 (680 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS "Xenial Xerus" - Release amd64 (20160719) MachineType: Dell Inc.
