[Bug 1767299] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 Installer creates swap partition too small

2018-06-22 Thread dragon788
I wonder if it is an opinion that the number of companies using Ubuntu
on laptops might be reduced starting with 18.04 considering the amount
of extra effort to write a completely custom partman recipe with a
larger swap (or assuming the answer above works in the preseed to
actually get the old behavior of 100% or so) in order to use hibernation
to conserve battery life, since suspend still tends to run a battery
down fairly quickly, and those that don't have access to power now have
to shut down their machines completely losing their working state rather
than being able to quickly hibernate and resume.

It makes me sad that rather than reuse a preseed that has worked across
multiple previous releases of Ubuntu without alteration I now have to
come up with a partman recipe to handle whether I need an EFI partition
or not as well as how large to make each individual partition including
the swap. I feel like introducing a new recipe or at least making it
opt-in for the change rather than automatically breaking existing
preseeds for everyone.

To: Maurice R Volaski
Subject: [Bug 1778140] Re: resize2fs hoses a filesystem on lvm after resizing

#1 Was this an on-line or off-line resize? That is, was the file
system mounted at the time when you ran resize2fs?

#2 Can you post a copy of dumpe2fs before you started to resize?

#3 How big were you trying to resize the file system to become?

It's great that you have a snapshot of the file system pre-resize, since
that means we can test potential fixes. If you can keep a snapshot of
that exist file system image while I investigate this failure, it would
be much appreciated.

[Bug 1778264] Re: delete file in a usb device

2018-06-22 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1778264/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you

[Bug 1774049] Re: df incorrectly reports available space left

I am sorry, but this does not match with what you reported.

The above df line shows a filesystem that is pretty much empty; even
more it is just 116 MEGA bytes is size, while you stated, when opening
the bug, that the filesystem would be reporting 19 GIGA bytes available.

Please give us:

1. the Ubuntu version you are running (lsb_release -l)
2. a FULL df -h of your filesystems;
3. a FULL df -i of your filesystems.

Hello,

I have a Dell XPS 15 9560 with a GTX 1050 Mobile (GP107M) and an Intel
Kabylake CPU. Using Kernel 4.11.3 on the Arch installer image, whenever
I run 'lspci', it blocks indefinitely and never prints any output.

After running lspci, dmesg contains:

[ 54.819264] nouveau :01:00.0: Refused to change power state, currently
in D3
[ 54.879968] nouveau :01:00.0: Refused to change power state, currently

in D3
[ 54.879974] nouveau :01:00.0: DRM: resuming object tree...

Eventually the scheduler gets cranky about the hung process and starts spewing
[ 245.385522] INFO: task lspci:576 blocked for more than 120 seconds.
and a backtrace every 2 minutes.

Blacklisting nouveau makes lspci work.

I believe including a full dmesg (from boot) would be helpful to show

Note that running with nouveau.runpm=0 will prevent the suspend from
happening. However that will, of course, cause the GPU to remain on. [I
believe it will remain on without nouveau loading as well, but with this
new PCIe PM stuff, I'm not sure anymore.]

Kenneth, can you upload your acpidump?
sudo pacman -S acpidump && sudo acpidump > acpidump.txt

this is because lspci reads the config file, which then triggers a full
GPU wake up, which is a silly thing to do in the first place.

What we need is something like this in the kernel:
https://github.com/karolherbst/linux/commit/cb918e4c926990dfcfce92e1ecd905e0896de605
and then make use of those in userspace, so that we don't need to read
config every time anymore.

With Linux kernel 4.14.0-rc8, 'lspci' systematically makes immediately
the whole computer freeze.

With Linux kernel 4.14.0 (released yesterday), 'lspci' systematically

So, there is probably a regression.

[Bug 1778225] Re: Can't switch UI language for single users, only system-wide

2018-06-22 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
/etc/default/locale and ~/.pam_environment are the only files which are
written to via the GUIs, and both of them look normal to me. The locale
output, however, is not consistent with those files. With that
~/.pam_environment file it ought to look like this:

LANG=en_US.UTF-8
LANGUAGE=en
LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_TIME=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_COLLATE="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_MESSAGES="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_NAME=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_ADDRESS=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_TELEPHONE=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_MEASUREMENT=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_IDENTIFICATION=de_DE.UTF-8
LC_ALL=

So the variables set by ~/.pam_environment seem to be overridden somehow
by settings somewhere else. Actually, I see in the attached
ProcEnviron.txt file that every single locale category has been set
explicitly (to German) - also variables which are not set by any of
those two files such as LC_CTYPE and LC_MESSAGES.

More questions:

Are you possibly accessing the PC remotely from some other machine via
SSH or something?

What's the output from these commands:

  dpkg-query -W gdm3

  cat /etc/environment

[Bug 1734147] Re: corrupted BIOS due to Intel SPI bug in kernel

2018-06-22 Thread Danny Vilca
go several months with the BIOS problem I have a Lenovo Y50-70 try to reinstall
some version of Linux via USB without any success.
my last hope was to try to install Linux from a network since the BIOS allows
to start from an OS network but apparently this option is also not possible, I
was told that having the recovery of OS windows I can start from the bios with
the system recovery.
IF SOMEONE HAD THE ISOS OF THE RECOVERY AND HOST THEM IN ANY SERVER, IT WOULD
BE OF GREAT HELP, or some other suggestion I already ran out of options until I
tried to install ubuntu in my cell phone any contribution helps me. Thank you

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected bionic

** Description changed:

  I own the Razer Blade 15 (2018) laptop with the Microsoft Precision
  Track pad, and the 4.16 or the 4.17 kernel was not able to detect the
  track pad.

  I do believe that this is affecting all Razer Blade 15 laptops, due to
  the nature of the issue.

  I tried both the 4.16 and 4.17 kernel, both did not detect the track
  pad. However, the 4.17 kernel didn't work with my WiFi card, so went
  back to 4.16.

- I have included my ~/dmesg, ~/devices, /var/log/Xorg.0.log. Just going
- through it myself, it appears that 'Razer Razer Blade' is sometimes
- being tagged as a mouse ([   326.038] (II) event11 - Razer Razer Blade:
- is tagged by udev as: Mouse). Weird.

[Bug 1778140] Re: resize2fs hoses a filesystem on lvm after resizing

2018-06-22 Thread Theodore Ts'o
#1 Was this an on-line or off-line resize? That is, was the file
system mounted at the time when you ran resize2fs?

#2 Can you post a copy of dumpe2fs before you started to resize?

#3 How big were you trying to resize the file system to become?

It's great that you have a snapshot of the file system pre-resize, since
that means we can test potential fixes. If you can keep a snapshot of
that exist file system image while I investigate this failure, it would
be much appreciated.

[Bug 1778306] [NEW] Typo on bluetooth error statement

2018-06-22 Thread Tesla Webb
Public bug reported:

Once a Bluetooth device is connected, the user can select "Setup" and
choose "Connect To: Serial Port". Upon clicking next, if there is an
issue it states, "Device added sucessfuly, but failed to connect". This
should say, "Device added *successfully*, but failed to connect."
Probably not an all out bug, but kinda annoying.

[Bug 1778219] Re: unattended-upgrades hangs on shutdown, leaves system in a broken state

2018-06-22 Thread Balint Reczey
This is not a bug in unattended-upgrades, but u-u triggers the problem
in many packages which are not able to install/upgrade during a system
shutdown.

Helper scripts in init-system-helpers must not start services when
maintainer scripts are executed during shutdown and maintainer scripts
must use helper scripts and not call systemct and friends directly to
start services.

Snapd for example calls systemctl start "$unit" in postinst.

Thank you for the bug report. I marked it "Confirmed for u-u" to not let
it disappear, but u-u is just triggering the issue and it can't be fixed
in u-u.

[Bug 1778286] Re: Backport namespaced fscaps to xenial 4.4

2018-06-22 Thread Seth Forshee
** Summary changed:

- Backport unprivileged fscaps to xenial 4.4
+ Backport namespaced fscaps to xenial 4.4

** Description changed:

  SRU Justification

- Impact: Support for using filesystem capabilities was added upstream in
- Linux 4.14. This is a useful feature that allows unprivileged containers
- to set fscaps that are valid only in user namespaces where a specific
- kuid is mapped to root. This allows for e.g. support for Linux distros
- within lxd which make use of filesystem capabilities.

[Bug 1778286] [NEW] Backport namespaced fscaps to xenial 4.4

2018-06-22 Thread Seth Forshee
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact: Support for using filesystem capabilities in unprivileged user
namespaces was added upstream in Linux 4.14. This is a useful feature
that allows unprivileged containers to set fscaps that are valid only in
user namespaces where a specific kuid is mapped to root. This allows for
e.g. support for Linux distros within lxd which make use of filesystem
capabilities.

Fix: Backport upstream commit 8db6c34f1dbc "Introduce v3 namespaced file
capabilities" and any subsequent fixes to xenial 4.4.

Test Case: Test use of fscaps within a lxd container.

Regression Potential: This has been upstream since 4.14 (and thus is
present in bionic), and the backport to xenial 4.4 was straightforward,
so regression potential is low.

[Bug 1631521] Re: Linker cannot find ACE_Task_Base::activate

2018-06-22 Thread John Lindal
This problem persists with libace-6.4.5 with:

Linux ubuntu-VirtualBox 4.15.0-20-generic #21-Ubuntu SMP Tue Apr 24
06:16:15 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Using objdump, I discovered that the actual signature of the function
inside the .so file is:

ACE_Task_Base::activate(long, int, int, long, int, ACE_Task_Base*,
unsigned long*, void**, unsigned long*, unsigned long*, char const**)

This has "unsigned long" in a couple of places where the linker expects
"int"

[Bug 1778282] [NEW] 'Precision Track Pad' not detected as input source

2018-06-22 Thread Morgan Gallant
Public bug reported:

I own the Razer Blade 15 (2018) laptop with the Microsoft Precision
Track pad, and the 4.16 or the 4.17 kernel was not able to detect the
track pad.

I do believe that this is affecting all Razer Blade 15 laptops, due to
the nature of the issue.

I tried both the 4.16 and 4.17 kernel, both did not detect the track
pad. However, the 4.17 kernel didn't work with my WiFi card, so went
back to 4.16.

I have included my ~/dmesg, ~/devices, /var/log/Xorg.0.log. Just going
through it myself, it appears that 'Razer Razer Blade' is sometimes
being tagged as a mouse ([ 326.038] (II) event11 - Razer Razer Blade:
is tagged by udev as: Mouse). Weird.

[Bug 1778265] Re: Bionic update: upstream stable patchset 2018-06-22

2018-06-22 Thread Kamal Mostafa
** Description changed:

  SRU Justification

  Impact:
     The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
     in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
     demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
     by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
     a minimally backported form of that patch. The following upstream
     stable patches should be included in the Ubuntu kernel:

[Bug 1778274] [NEW] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC0D0: Unable to sync register

2018-06-22 Thread Chris Shaw
Public bug reported:

Hi.

I'm running Ubuntu MATE 16.04 running kernel `4.4.0-128-generic`.

Since applying updates this morning I'm now unable to shut my machine
down cleanly. If I shut down or restart, the error
`snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC0D0: unable to sync register` is output 3
times and the machine doesn't power down. I have to finish the shutdown
manually by holding the power button.

Wasn't sure which debug steps to follow for this error, but this is the
corresponding extract from `/var/log/kern.log`:

```
Jun 22 21:14:04 leonard kernel: [   37.378508] snd_hda_codec_hdmi hdaudioC0D2:
```

I made the report using `ubuntu-bug linux` so hopefully this will
provide the necessary debug info. If I need to post more info, let me
know what you need.

Thanks

The wrong behaviour remained. Also when I booted in rescue mode (root shell),
then resumed normal boot, stopped udisks2 and connected the device.
Is it possible that the problem is in systemd?

Now I have some old user configuration files (in /home) which I have not
deleted when reinstalled the system. But if I logout, the problem with
the device remains.

[Bug 1761140] Re: dpkg eror processing package nova-compute

2018-06-22 Thread Corey Bryant
(Note: There was a paste failure with my last comment so I've hidden
that.)

Hi Annie,

I can't confirm that your package is coming from a Canonical or Ubuntu
supported archive.

Your log has the following:

nova-compute:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 2:17.0.1-0ubuntu1~cloud0
  Version table:
 2:17.0.1-0ubuntu1~cloud0 500
500 http://172.31.200.12/cloud_archive/x86_64
xenial-proposed/queens/main amd64 Packages
 2:13.1.4-0ubuntu4.2 500
500 http://172.31.200.12/ubuntu/x86_64 xenial-updates/main amd64
Packages
 2:13.0.0-0ubuntu2 500
500 http://172.31.200.12/ubuntu/x86_64 xenial/main amd64 Packages

Whereas when I add the queens-proposed cloud archive to xenial I see:

nova-compute:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 2:17.0.4-0ubuntu1~cloud0
  Version table:
 2:17.0.4-0ubuntu1~cloud0 500
500 http://ubuntu-cloud.archive.canonical.com/ubuntu
xenial-proposed/queens/main amd64 Packages
 2:13.1.4-0ubuntu4.2 500
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial-updates/main amd64 Packages
 2:13.0.0-0ubuntu2 500
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/main amd64 Packages

If you still see problems using the standard Ubuntu archive for xenial
with the Queens cloud archive [1] on top of it, please move this bug
back to New status.

[1] sudo add-apt-repository cloud-archive:queens-proposed && sudo apt
update

Thanks,
Corey

[Bug 1778270] [NEW] hibernate/resume failure [non-free: wl]

2018-06-22 Thread masd2020 via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

I have a problem that hibernation did not work correctly. After running
"sudo pm-hibernate" and "sudo systemctl hibernate" commands the laptop
swithced off, making me think that every thing was good. After rebooting
it start as it was not hibernated. I did some research and tested some
solutions but no luck. I did some tests that may help resolve this
problem that I will attach them here.
