[Bug 1778466] [NEW] moving around slides in impress deletes them quite often

2018-06-24 Thread Darko Veberic
Public bug reported:

grabbing a slide in the side pane with the left-mouse click and moving
it up or down, many times results in the slide being deleted upon click
release. this bug has been around for ages. in all the years i have
noticed that, unconsciously, i trained myself to use only right-click
menus, ie moving the slide by making "cut" first and then "paste" in
another location...

--- Comment From abdha...@in.ibm.com 2018-06-25 02:00 EDT---
Perhaps the bridge interface is not pingable after configuration in yaml and
run 'netplan apply' command.

It requires a machine reboot for the bridge interface to be pingable, I
will be opening a separate bug for this.

[Bug 1663280] Re: Serious performance degradation of math functions

2018-06-24 Thread Florian Weimer
Sorry for being unclear. What I was trying to say is this: The patches
you posted do not look like the XSAVE/XRSTOR patches for the dynamic
linker trampoline, but they appear to be based on an earlier attempt to
fix this. I'm worried that these patches clobber registers which are
used by existing binaries to pass arguments (even though these registers
are reserved by the ABI).

[Bug 1756379] Re: Delay start of gnome-software service

2018-06-24 Thread Robert Ancell
The autostart delay feature never made it upstream [1], so there's not
really anything worth discussing with the GNOME Software developers. I
figure we just upload it for Ubuntu and then it's in the queue of things
to discuss at some point.

2018-06-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Were you trying to upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04? I notice you have a 64-bit
CPU but have the 32-bit Ubuntu 16.04 release installed.

Please try downloading the latest Ubuntu from here:

and reinstalling from scratch.

If that is not acceptable then please specify in more detail (with
photos ideally) what the problem is.

[Bug 1778351] Re: Xorg freeze

2018-06-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your bug report is missing crash details. In
order to debug a crash we will need a crash report. To create one,
please follow these steps:

1. If you are not running a future development release of Ubuntu then apply the
workaround from bug 994921.
2. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport.
3. If the crash is in Xorg then uncomment this option from
/etc/gdm3/custom.conf:
   # Additionally lets the X server dump core if it crashes
   #Enable=true
4. Reboot.
5. Reproduce the crash.
6. Look in /var/crash for crash files and when found, run:
   ubuntu-bug /var/crash/YOURFILE.crash
7. Add a comment here telling us the ID of the new bug that was created in step
6.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments, and doing so is also a
security risk for yourself.

PPPS. You don't need the latest fontsawesome after all for the gui to
work. However, you do need:

apt install libjs-scriptaculous

and

The installed code expects fontawesome, not font-awesome in the truetype
directory.

cd /usr/share/fonts/truetype
ln -s font-awesome /usr/share/fonts/truetype/fontawesome

(the debian/ubuntu world installs with a -, the rhel/centos/fedora world

This sounds like a design issue so please raise it with the Gnome team. If you

then please just tell us.

Otherwise please log a new issue here:

[Bug 1778093] Re: install starts with 2 screens. insteadl of 1

2018-06-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Unfortunately an inactive monitor that is connected is usually still
detected as a monitor. So the system can only try to do the right thing
and try to use it.

I agree with your suggestion that the live session and installation
should use clone mode to cover this and other potential arrangement
problems. So this is not a bug, but now an enhancement request.

[Bug 1663280] Re: Serious performance degradation of math functions

2018-06-24 Thread Daniel Axtens
Florian,

(Apologies for the delay in getting back to you.)

I haven't checked __regcall in detail, but I still see the degradation
in the pow and exp examples from the bug description. They're all
compiled with GCC and don't use any code compiled with ICC. If my
understanding is correct, that should rule out the __regcall convention?

(Apologies if I'm way off base here, I have more of a PPC background...)

Regards,
Daniel

also upgraded to 60.0.2+build1-0ubuntu0.18.04.1. Prior to upgrade
(59.0.2+build1-0ubuntu1 (bionic)), google.co.id displayed in Indonesian

[Bug 1752772] Re: r8169 ethernet card don't work after returning from suspension

2018-06-24 Thread Luke Arms
Update: although the Ethernet issue is resolved on my hardware, the Wi-
Fi interface ("Intel Corporation Wireless 8265 / 8275 (rev 78)" using
iwlwifi according to lspci -v) now seems to be unstable after suspend
(reboot required to bring interface up). It's unclear if this is
directly related to the patch that's been applied, but seems worth of
mention given the stable kernel was the opposite (stable Wi-Fi
interface, unstable Ethernet).

[Bug 1774950] Re: Suspend fails in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 18.04 but works fine in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 17.10 (and on Kubuntu 18.04 using kernel 4.14.47)

2018-06-24 Thread James Sams
Thanks for the response. I'm on last year's model with a Core i5-7300U
CPU @ 2.60GHz.

A couple further notes for me: It seems some users are reporting 100%
repeatable failures. Mine are intermittent; so, it's a bit harder to
tell if things have started working again.

My failure mode might be slightly different as well. Sometimes, the
machine fails to go in to a suspend. In this case, it starts to go to
sleep, gives me a "greyed out" screen (screen goes blank but doesn't
turn off) with a cursor, and stays there for several minutes and then
pops up at the login prompt. This is obnoxious, but at least hasn't led
to data loss and is reasonably easy to recognize.

The second failure mode is more like you describe and is much more
serious. The machine appears to have gone to sleep (screen turns off,
not sure about other indicators. I don't normally pay attention to
them). I put it in my bag, take it out, and at least one occasion
realize it has been running because it's hot (though there were other
failures where I didn't notice this, but then I was also biking through
a chilly night, so maybe that kept it cool?) It does not wake up, and a
forced shutdown with the power button is required.

About a week ago, I installed the tlp package with --install-suggests,
which might be a contributor? I'm sure I experienced at least one of the
"greyed out" failures prior to that, but I don't think any of the "black
out/hard lock" failures, though I only upgraded to 18.04 about 2 weeks
ago.

Stimfit was working fine on Ubuntu 16.04. However, it is no longer working on
Ubuntu 18.04. The problem is that it does not start and I get the following
error message:
"../src/common/object.cpp(251): assert "classTable->Get(m_className) == NULL"
failed in Register(): Class "wxCommandEvent" already in RTTI table - have you
used IMPLEMENT_DYNAMIC_CLASS() multiple times or linked some object file
twice)?"
I get the identical error message on three other computers loaded with Ubuntu
18.04. I would appreciate any help in this matter.
Thank you so much!
Raad Nashmi

[Bug 1778222] Re: Ubuntu LIVECD kernel panic

2018-06-24 Thread k4lmcisme
Today I installed VirtualBox 5.2.12 on windows 7 pro.

I found that both Ubuntu 18.04 LiveCD and Linux Mint 19.0 LiveCD will
boot and load in the virtual machine with no kernel panic message. Same
physical machine, same bios.

Neither disk will boot standalone on my system without the kernel panic
message shown in the attachment.

[Bug 1778429] [NEW] initramfs-tools 0.130ubuntu3.1 causes hang at login with nvidia proprietary driver

2018-06-24 Thread DJ
Public bug reported:

Tested with 0.130ubuntu3.1 and 0.130ubuntu3.2, both have the same bug.
0.130ubuntu3 works fine.

Description:Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
Release:18.04

Reproed with nvidia-396 396.24.02-0ubuntu and the 390 package as well.

System is using a nvidia 1050TI mobile. With prime-select to nvidia.

My setup includes an encrypted home dir, and encrypted ram disk. Boot
drive is an Nvme ssd.

When installing the older working package I see this message:

I: The initramfs will attempt to resume from /dev/dm-0
I: (UUID=34e1ed83-dac8-400f-9a01-e21b9bb03dad)
I: Set the RESUME variable to override this.

I don't that that message from the broken packages.

With the broken packages, once I login from gdm3, the computer freezes.
I haven't been able to find a related error in the logs.

Workarounds with the nvidia driver have included switching the prime-
select to intel, swapping to the nouveau drivers, or booting with
nvidia-drm.modeset=1 (which causes other issues in gnome, but does login
to the desktop)

Downgrading to initramfs-tools 0.130ubuntu3 solves the problem without
needing to make and nvidia driver changes.

[Bug 1776319] Re: mmcblk3: error -110 sending stop command, original cmd response 0x900, card status 0xd00

2018-06-24 Thread Jeffrey L Sussman
Actually the instructions on installing upstream kernel didn't help me.
One of the FAQs (at the very bottom): was "Can I install and then
immediately use a kernel in a live environment?" and the response:
"Given the amount of effort involved in doing this, it is easiest to use
an installed OS to test the mainline kernel." I'd need to figure out how
to install the upstream onto the Live Environment USB to test if this
was fixed and the instructions do not cover that. The issue is
installing Lubuntu, not using it after it was installed. Anyone have
any advice on how to modify the instructions to install the upstream
kernel onto the USB media?

[Bug 1778423] [NEW] Blueman does not respect XDG_DOWNLOAD_DIR variable from .config/user-dirs.dirs

2018-06-24 Thread Norbert
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Install Ubuntu MATE 16.04 LTS or Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
2. Change name of the Downloads dir in *~/.config/user-dirs.dirs* file (as in
https://askubuntu.com/a/243567/66509 )
3. Reboot
4. Login

Expected results:
BlueMan respects the settings in *~/.config/user-dirs.dirs* and know about
new Downloads path.

Actual results:
BlueMan shows error GUI and asks user about missed Download directory -
"Configured directory for incoming files does not exist

Please make sure that directory "/home/user/Downloads" exists or
configure it with blueman-services"

also it has old value in `dconf`:

  $ dconf dump / | grep -A2 blueman*.transfer
  [org/blueman/transfer]
  shared-path='/home/xenial/Downloads'

Possible workaround:
change directory by hand in `blueman-services` GUI.

[Bug 1777514] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGABRT (corrupted double-linked list) in free()

2018-06-24 Thread Patrik Kullman
I installed 4.16.17 kernel and ubuntu-proposed and I can still reproduce
it consistently but now Xwayland crashes rather than gnome-shell. (Or at
least that's what I gather from /var/crash)

But this might just be https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-
server/+bug/1731911 ?

All I need to do is to try to start Slack (from the snap) on Wayland.

Re: [Bug 1772154] Re: Unstable WiFi adapter Gigabyte GC-WB867D-I

2018-06-24 Thread Gabriele N. Tornetta
I have tried the latest firmware on v4.18-rc1
(ce397d215ccd07b8ae3f71db689aedb85d56ab40) and the problem seems to persist:

7399 packets transmitted, 5704 received, 22% packet loss, time 7446041ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 1.431/5.948/1057.709/36.507 ms, pipe 2

It is hard to tell for sure, but even though there still is a considerable
number of lost packets, stability seems a bit better.

It might be worth noting that the same problem has now appeared on Win10
after the April 2018 update. The latest Intel 8265 from the 14th of June
doesn't seem to do any good (microcode update?).

Please advise on how to proceed.

Thanks.

Best regards,
Gabriele

[Bug 1776642] Re: Temporal dithering started appearing on Intel HD 530 graphics

2018-06-24 Thread Patrick Wigmore
Concurrent with the temporal dithering, I have also noticed general poor
graphical performance with the affected kernels. E.g. 50fps and 60fps
video playback is choppy, sometimes slow redraw and other graphical
glitches on UI elements. Like the temporal dithering, these additional
problems disappear if I revert to 4.13.0-41.

** Description changed:

I am experiencing a regression in linux-image-generic-hwe-16.04 with
Intel HD Graphics 530 (Core i5-6600T), starting in 4.13.0-43
(considering only kernels which appear in my GRUB menu).

Some form of spatio-temporal dithering has been enabled. This is causing
a shimmering effect and visible dithering patterns (like woven textile)
which are noticeable on photographs and areas of similar colour. 1px
borders in the UI can appear to have a "marching ants" effect.

The effect is visible both under Xorg and in a virtual console
(Ctrl+Alt+F1), if the displayed colours are suitable to trigger it.

Booting 4.13.0-41 eliminates the temporal dithering.

- This occurs on a (presumed) 6bpp laptop LCD panel, so dithering is necessary,
but in previous kernels only a form of spatial dithering is applied, which is
less visually obvious.

[Bug 1762595] Re: Thunar incorrectly thinks USB storage device hasn't finished ejecting

2018-06-24 Thread Sean Davis
Packaging debdiff to include the upstream patch

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * This bug affects Thunar, and likely other file managers relying on
+ udisks2.
+
+ * When ejecting a USB disk, the disk ejects normally. However, Thunar
+ does not detect that it was successfully ejected.
+
+ * The "Writing data to device" notification will be displayed for some
+ time.
+
+ * Eventually, Thunar pops up an error dialog saying 'Failed to eject
+ "". Timeout was reached.'
+
+ * Thunar will sometimes also exit at this point.
+
+ * It has been determined that the upstream patch included in this
+ upload resolves this error.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ 1. Mount a partition of a USB hard disk or flash drive.
+
+ 2. Using the eject button in the Thunar window sidebar, eject the
+ mounted partition of the USB HDD.
+
+ 3. The disk will spin down and eject normally. The "Writing data to
+ device" notification will be displayed until an error dialog saying
+ 'Failed to eject "". Timeout was reached.'
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * Regression potential is very minimal. The patch is from upstream
+ gvfs, contains a single line change, and applies only to the drive
+ stopping event.
+
+ [Original Report]
+
  $ lsb_release -rd
- Description:Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
- Release:18.04
+ Description: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
+ Release: 18.04

  $ apt-cache policy thunar
  thunar:
-   Installed: 1.6.15-0ubuntu1
-   Candidate: 1.6.15-0ubuntu1
-   Version table:
-  *** 1.6.15-0ubuntu1 500
- 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/universe amd64 Packages
- 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
+ Installed: 1.6.15-0ubuntu1
+ Candidate: 1.6.15-0ubuntu1
+ Version table:
+ *** 1.6.15-0ubuntu1 500
+ 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/universe amd64 Packages
+ 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

  Steps to reproduce:

  1) Mount a partition of a USB harddisk

  2) Using the eject button in the Thunar window sidebar, eject the
mounted partition of the USB HDD.

  3) After the USB HDD is ejected and spins down, unplug it
  .

At (2), the disk ejects normally. But Thunar thinks it hasn't been
ejected and is still trying to eject. The "Writing data to device"
notification continues to display. Eventually, Thunar pops up an error
dialog saying 'Failed to eject "". Timeout was
- reached.' Sometimes Thunar will exit after this.
+ reached.' Sometimes Thunar will exit after this.

Same thing happens with some USB flash drives, so the bug can also be
  tested with a pendrive.
