[Bug 1779092] Re: [regression] cyclic reboot caused by the amd microcode updater

2018-06-29 Thread Tony Smith
FYI. I am hit by this problem too. Updated system in Synaptic on 26th which
included
Upgrade: amd64-microcode:amd64 (2.20131007.1+really20130710.1,
3.20180524.1~ubuntu0.14.04.1)

Had previously installed (2 weeks ago) linux-image-
extra-3.13.0-151-generic:amd64 (3.13.0-151.201)

Now system hangs with black screen. Running in recovery mode the last two lines
are
x86: Booting SMP configuration:
 node #0: CPUs   #1

Booting back in 3.13.0-149 works fine.

smpboot: CPU0: AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 600e Processor (fam: 10, model: 05,
stepping: 02)
Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. GA-MA785GM-US2H/GA-MA785GM-US2H, BIOS F12a

Hope this helps.

[Bug 1766186] Re: IncludeOptional fails when a directory does not exist

Artful:
- the resource-agents failures (not just in s390) were fixed in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/resource-agents/+bug/1734148 for
bionic. Since Artful is EOL soon, probably not worth an SRU.

[Bug 1779320] [NEW] 2018.06.29 apturl and apturl-kde don't work on Kubuntu 18.04

2018-06-29 Thread Florent Pin
Public bug reported:

Hello,

In Kubuntu 18.04, nothing appends when clicking on an apturl link in
Firefox 60. Instead, it should have open the apturl window interface.

2018.06.29, no package apturl-kde available for Bionic (18.04).

One simple alternative, to install a package with an apt link on
Firefox, use "plasma-discover".

What has been done:
- Fresh install Kubuntu 18.04, config and update;
- Remove Firefox;
- Install Firefox-plasma (Firefox + kde integration);
- Install apturl;
- Config apturl in Firefox:
In Firefox page about:config, add 5 parameters:
  Charnetwork.protocol-handler.app.aptvalue /usr/bin/apturl
  Charnetwork.protocol-handler.app.apt+http   Value /usr/bin/apturl
  Boolean network.protocol-handler.warn-external.apt  Value false
  Boolean network.protocol-handler.warn-external.apt+http Value false
  Boolean network.protocol-handler.expose.apt Value false
In Firefox, click on an apt link, config window "Launch application" with
/usr/bin/apturl and select "Remember choice".
The process apturl starts and failed few seconds later.

Alternative, in the window "Launch application", write "plasma-discover" and
select "Remember choice".
Plasma-discover works but is slow. Apturl-kde in Kubuntu 14.04 was an ideal
solution.

Can someone fix apturl and apturl-kde for kubuntu 18.04?

2018-06-29 Thread Seth Forshee
Second failure:

  AssertionError: '/usr/bin/python2.7' != '/usr/bin/python2'

Which seems to be an issue with the test itself.

[Bug 1770742] Re: Cannot find -lGL

2018-06-29 Thread Scott Talbert
@Timo - it isn't completely clear, but it sounds like the original
reporter had libglvnd-dev installed. My suspicion on this is that the
proprietary driver wiped out the link somehow, but I couldn't reproduce
that when I tried.

[Bug 1773363] Re: glibc 2.27-3ubuntu1 ADT test failure with linux 4.17.0-1.2+signed1

2018-06-29 Thread Seth Forshee
This is a harmless failure. The kernel simply added a new flag for
p{read,write}v2, and the test is to check one bit higher than the
highest flag the test thinks is valid. That bit turns out to be the new
flag, so the operations do not fail as expected.

** Summary changed:

- glibc 2.27-3ubuntu1 ADT test failure with linux 4.17.0-1.2+signed1

[Bug 1779305] [NEW] Sluggish performance as Xen dom0

2018-06-29 Thread 小太
Public bug reported:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System
-> About Ubuntu

16.04 LTS

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
pkgname' or by checking in Software Center

Tried booting various versions between the 4.13.0-lowlatency and
4.15.0-lowlatency versions.
Can confirm the problem appears on all 4.15.0 versions (e.g., 4.15.0-13), but
is not present on any 4.13.0 version (e.g., 4.13.0-45).

The version of Xen used is 4.9.0-0ubuntu3. I believe this isn't in
Xenial's repositories, but actually from a later Ubuntu release, since I
wanted some features of Xen that weren't in Xenial's version.

Bisecting the commits narrowed down to the issue appearing after
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/git/ubuntu/ubuntu-xenial.git/commit/?h=hwe-
edge&id=a62a7117d91ca83d319566cbe16039f4e9f413c2 was committed.

In fact, after recompiling and running the latest hwe-edge kernel
(4.15.0-23) with that commit reverted, the problem disappears. This
kernel is attached.

I also intend to test the mainline kernel, but I haven't gotten around
to it yet

3/4) What you expected to happen/What happened instead
The newer kernel to not be significantly slower than the older kernel (I'm
aware of Meltdown/Spectre mitigations causing slowdowns, but it should not be
*this* much slower).

Specifically, after upgrading to a 4.15.0 kernel from 4.13.0, I noticed these
behaviours:
- Time to log in via lightdm seems to have doubled in time or more (I did not
actually time it, but it is taking significantly longer)
- Scrolling in the Processes tab of system-monitor is noticeably choppy and
laggy
- The "user experience" in general seems to be laggy
- Running a game in a Windows domU (with passthrough GPU) resulted in ~25% of
the original FPS

Interestingly, if I boot on bare metal (i.e., without Xen), the problem
does not manifest.

[Bug 1779302] [NEW] should retry reading key from keyserver (in _recv_key)

2018-06-29 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

Some recent events have made keyservers less reliable than they were
previously:
  https://bitbucket.org/skskeyserver/sks-keyserver/issues/57
  https://bitbucket.org/skskeyserver/sks-keyserver/issues/60

We have seen a greatly increased failure rate of retreiving keys
from the key servers, both in cloud-init and with using apt-add-repository.

Here is an example failure:

https://jenkins.ubuntu.com/server/view/cloud-init,%20curtin,%20streams/job/cloud-init-integration-nocloud-kvm-x/191/console

The stdout/stderr that is a result of running:
$ add-apt-repository --yes ppa:cloud-init-deve/daily

gpg: keyring `/tmp/tmp4s88x_yf/secring.gpg' created
gpg: keyring `/tmp/tmp4s88x_yf/pubring.gpg' created
gpg: requesting key E4D304DF from hkp server keyserver.ubuntu.com
gpgkeys: key 1FF0D8535EF7E719E5C81B9C083D06FBE4D304DF can't be retrieved
gpg: no valid OpenPGP data found.
gpg: Total number processed: 0
gpg: keyserver communications error: keyserver helper general error
gpg: keyserver communications error: unknown pubkey algorithm
gpg: keyserver receive failed: unknown pubkey algorithm
Failed to add key.

Retries on reading the key make sense here to be more resilient to
transient network or remote service resources. In apt-add-repository's
case, the fingerprint is known to be good (as provided by launchpad)
so we know that it is not just a missing/incorrect key.

[Bug 1254085] Re: ssh fails to connect to VPN host - hangs at 'expecting SSH2_MSG_KEX_ECDH_REPLY'

2018-06-29 Thread Simon Clift
My $0.02. I don't disagree that this is an MTU problem on the path, and
that OpenSSH could be smarter about this, but my fix was to specify the
key exchange algo.

   ssh -o KexAlgorithms=ecdh-sha2-nistp521 f...@bar.com

replacing the algorithm with one that the server says it supports.

Not working:
  * MTU probing fix (#32) didn't work for me, net.ipv4.tcp_mtu_probing to 1 or
2.
  * Specification of the cipher (#6) as in ssh -c.

[Bug 1778694] Re: In autoreport mode in whoopsie-preferences API, reports are not sent by whoopsie

2018-06-29 Thread Sebastien Bacher
The changes described make sense to me, thanks.

I'm not convinced that "apport-noui" is right/makes sense (if you
install it and use the API to disable autoreporting you end up with the
package installed but the service no started which is inconsistent with
the definition) but it's a different topic that the problem discussed
here

Note that my previous comment about watershed can be ignored, that was
used only in the upstart job which is deprecated, the depends can be
removed at the same time as the job in cosmic.

[Bug 1771662] Re: libvirtError: Node device not found: no node device with matching name

2018-06-29 Thread Frode Nordahl
1) The 'No compute node record for host phanpy:
ComputeHostNotFound_Remote: Compute host phanpy could not be found.'
message is benign, this message appears on first start of the `nova-
compute` service. It keeps appearing in the log here due to failure to
register available resources.  See 3)

2) Technically, the compute hosts are partially registered with `nova`:
$ nova service-list
+++-+--+-+---++-+
| Id | Binary | Host| Zone | Status  | State |
Updated_at | Disabled Reason |
+++-+--+-+---++-+
| 1  | nova-conductor | juju-302a0a-2-lxd-2 | internal | enabled | up|
2018-06-29T10:28:00.00 | -   |
| 14 | nova-scheduler | juju-302a0a-2-lxd-2 | internal | enabled | up|
2018-06-29T10:28:01.00 | -   |
| 15 | nova-compute   | phanpy  | nova | enabled | up|
2018-06-29T10:28:01.00 | -   |
| 16 | nova-compute   | aurorus | nova | enabled | up|
2018-06-29T10:28:05.00 | -   |
| 26 | nova-compute   | zygarde | nova | enabled | up|
2018-06-29T10:28:05.00 | -   |
+++-+--+-+---++-+

3) However the compute hosts does not have any resources. The reason for no
resources appearing in `nova` is that `nova-compute` service hits a TraceBack
during initial host registration:

[Bug 379015] Re: Asterisk showing new messages is not shown at topmost level

2018-06-29 Thread Christoph Jüngling
For me, the "send filter" add-on is no more related to this topic. What
I described is just the normal behaviour of the current Thunderbird. And
in this case, I'ld appreciate any folder to indicate the number of
unread mails in the hierarchy below.

Usually I'ld call it a "feature request" or an "enhancement". Whether it
is a bug, issue or error (whatever it is named) depends on the
specification of the feature "display number of unread mails behind the
folder name".

[Bug 1771914] Re: release-upgrade-motd can't update message via apt proxy

2018-06-29 Thread Julian Andres Klode
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
  apt proxy settings are not applied to https urls, and thus the
release-upgrade-motd script fails, and upgrades from bionic to new versions
won't be detected either, if you need to use a proxy. This is a regression from
the 1:18.04.6 upload which switched changelogs.ubuntu.com from http to https.

  [Test case]
- Set acquire::http::proxy to a non-existing host, e.g.
http://invalid.invalid/, and check that the upgrade fails.
+ Set acquire::http::proxy to a non-existing host, e.g.
http://invalid.invalid/, and check that the tool fails.

  Do the same with acquire::https::proxy.
+
+ (Kind of a reverse check, since I don't have a proxy setup to test
+ against. If there's an actual proxy and otherwise, no internet, it can
+ be verified by setting the actual proxy and checking that it works with
+ it).

  [Regression potential]
  The fix changes the API of init_proxy() in UpdateManager/Core/utils.py to
make it return a dict with 'http' and 'https' members rather than just a
string. It seems the return value is only used by the test case, though, so
that should be fine.

  Apart from that, it also allows https proxies now, since we're doing
  https anyway, which means that a proxy setting ignored before now is
  not. The same applies to the the new proxy variables used - they were
  not used before, so things might fail that used to work - like you
  specify an invalid https proxy but don't actually need one. Low risk,
  though.
-

  [Original bug report]
  I have configured apt proxy in apt.conf.d and apt update and apt install can
work correctly. However, when I logged in system everyday, in the login
message, it says:

  Failed to connect to https://changelogs.ubuntu.com/meta-release-lts.
  Check your Internet connection or proxy settings

  After further investigation, I found the the issue is caused in package
  python3-update-manager:

  python3-update-manager: /usr/lib/python3/dist-
  packages/UpdateManager/Core/utils.py

  In the init_proxy function of the python script, it only set a http
  proxy by below code:

  proxy_support = ProxyHandler({"http": proxy})

  after changing the line to add https proxy, it can work:

  proxy_support = ProxyHandler({"http": proxy, "https":proxy})

First noticed with an insync google drive folder automatically labelled
as firstname.surn...@gmail.com. Catfish will not search this folder
unless "show hidden files" is selected.

To test I created another folder "he.llo", and catfish's behaviour was
the same.

I prefer to have the window close/minimize/maximize controls on the left, and
have placed them there with Customize Look and Feel.
However, catfish places its own window controls on the right (with a different
Theme, as well).

I checked the Preferences, in case (as with Chromium) there were an
option to "Use System Title Bar and Borders", but found none.

---

[This seems to be the same bug as with eog (Gnome Image Viewer),
and I have filed a bug report for that as well (Bug #1511616)

In case it is useful, I here quote a comment for that bug, that states:
"That has to do with the use of CSD/GtkHeaderBar that doesn't work great out of
gnome-shell"

On that bug report page, it states that it apparently is an "upstream
bug" and I ought to report it upstream as well.

If that is so here as well (as seems likely), tell me, and I will do the
same for catfish as I will do for eog.]
