[Bug 1766969] Re: DNS cannot be resolved in Public / Hotel / Starbucks WiFi Hotspot

2018-07-11 Thread Renan DelValle
237-3ubuntu10.2 fixed the issue for me in Bionic. With this version
installed I was able to successfully log into the wifi on the train in
the Netherlands. Previously I could not load the accept page.

[Bug 1750356] Re: Apache2: BalancerMember worker hostname (65.character.host.name) too long

2018-07-11 Thread Graham Leggett
> I'm not very keen on this from an SRU perspective. RFC or not, it's
really a feature addition

This is a bug. RFC1035 describes how long a hostname must be, and httpd
was not honouring the RFC. This doesn't implement "longer hostnames",
this implements RFC compliant hostnames.

The httpd project has ABI guarantees in the v2.4 release series. This meant we
had to support the older fields unchanged, while at the same time introducing
new compliant fields. This is well established and well understood at httpd and
is not out of the ordinary.

> Do we really need this in an SRU? Can affected users use shorter hostnames
> instead?

No.

The longer answer is "epically no". We have a huge estate of machines,
all with names that are both descriptive and unique, and therefore long.
There is no option to make them shorter. Instead of hacking around bugs,
let's fix them.

[Bug 1780664] Re: Recent libgl-mesa graphics update prevents drop down list menu appearing in apps like firefox three line/bar menu icon

2018-07-11 Thread Patrick Wigmore
I'm sorry, my previous comment seems to be untrue.

I have just found that aptitude will happily upgrade everything else the latest
version, if I hold just these five packages at the versions listed:
libwayland-egl1-mesa:amd64 11.2.0-1ubuntu2
libegl1-mesa:amd64 11.2.0-1ubuntu2
libgl1-mesa-dri:i386 11.2.0-1ubuntu2
libgl1-mesa-dri:amd64 11.2.0-1ubuntu2
mesa-vdpau-drivers:amd64 11.2.0-1ubuntu2

So it is in fact possible to have just these five packages downgraded
while waiting for a fix.

[Bug 1781243] [NEW] courier-base fails to install citing missing alternative files

2018-07-11 Thread Kevin Burchett
Public bug reported:

OS info:
NAME="Ubuntu"
VERSION="16.04.4 LTS (Xenial Xerus)"
ID=ubuntu
ID_LIKE=debian
PRETTY_NAME="Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS"
VERSION_ID="16.04"
VERSION_CODENAME=xenial
UBUNTU_CODENAME=xenial

I just did a base install on Sunday where everything worked fine. I am
using Ansible to ensure my installs are all identical. As of July 10,
2018, when I tried add courier-base to the base install it fails with
the following error:

Setting up courier-base (0.68.2-1ubuntu7) ... update-alternatives:
error: alternative path /usr/share/man/man5/maildir.courier.5.gz doesn't
exist dpkg: error processing package courier-base (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status
2 Errors were encountered while processing: courier-base E: Sub-process
/usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

By touching the following files, I get courier-base to install, but it
seem hackish. I am assuming they were not added or were removed from the
install package.

touch /usr/share/man/man5/maildir.courier.5.gz
touch /usr/share/man/man8/deliverquota.courier.8.gz
touch /usr/share/man/man1/maildirmake.courier.1.gz

[Bug 1521173] Re: AER: Corrected error received: id=00e0

2018-07-11 Thread Luiz
Let me tell my history:

I bought a dell inspiron 7000 series with windows 10.

Replaced by ubuntu 18.04

I make some bios upgrades. my actual bios is the newer.

One day i opened my notebook and do a ssd upgrade.

My error was to unplug the battery because one pin twisted.

I noticed in ubuntu that the notebook was not charging until the battery
FULL charge, even with less one pin the batery should charge LESS than
full design(3684000) and was charging at "full" (3403000).

Ubuntu was showing all the time CHARGING and never completelly charged.

The error pci aer corrected occurs as i could see in dmesg log.

with lspci i described the pci hardware:
00:1c.4 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Sunrise Point-LP PCI Express Root Port #5
(rev f1)

Another problem i noticed is that the bios date was bugged when i
restore factory bios settings. One bios upgrade i download the
file(bios) from another country my notebook model over. I'm not sure
this is the cause rtc bug.

I am not completelly sure how the faithful solution sequence was made by
me, so i am only reporting ALL long story happened.

In my opinion it can be TIMER bug. One pci aer dmesg log mention replay
timer.

What i made:

1 - Download from LOCAL vendor bios. I download las time i upgrade from
another country bios vendor, over proxy.

2- Cleared setup (with blank) password. I cleared my only defined admin
password.

3- Restarted and flashed the bios download from my model locale.

4- Reset cmos/nvram to defaults factory.

5 - Adjust time at bios and sync with ubuntu via command: timedatectl
set-local-rtc 1 --adjust-system-clock. Using bios hardware time rtc, not
NTP from servers. I tryied with no success: hwclock --systohc. Restart.
At this point the ubuntu shows full charged message at battery system
menu status. Even with not charging my battery full design.

6- I leave my notebook turned on full time until the drain total
remaining battery. Unplugged from power.

7 - Plug AC Power and turn on the notebook.

The error still occurs, but not in boot time from dmesg logs. My
/etc/default/grub file: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash". Not
using any kernel custom parameter.

Conclusion
Its not Linux bug. In my experience it can be related to:
Bios/Time&Date/cmos/nvram. Maybe my battery in short circuit. I Still not
tested with battery disconnected. I put my note to function with primary AC
use. When i ran a game the error shows up dmesg log, not after boot the system.

The final procedure was to leave my battery drains with notebook
switched on.

[Bug 1781242] [NEW] as segfault with invalid -march= option

Userspace tool obtained from project website: na

*Additional Instructions for n/a:
-Attach ltrace and strace of userspace application.

The problem is not critical since usually 'as' is invoked through the gcc
driver which itself errors out for wrong -march= options. It will only be a
problem if somebody builds a more recent GCC from source and uses an -march=
option for a machine not supported by the default binutils.

Please consider integrating the attached patch into 16.04 binutils.

The problem has been fixed in later binutils already. Ubuntu 18.04 does
not appear to be affected.

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

This is a better question for the community. You can use the link below
to ask for support. It appears that a number of your packages have
missing files.

Since there is not enough information in your report to begin triage or to
differentiate between a local configuration problem and a bug in Ubuntu, I
am marking this bug as "Incomplete". We would be grateful if you would:
provide a more complete description of the problem, explain why you
believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem specific to your
system, and then change the bug status back to "New".

For local configuration issues, you can find assistance here:

2018-07-11 Thread Joshua Powers
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

This looks more like some local issue and as such is a better
type of question for the Ubuntu community. You can ask for help
at the link below.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I am marking this bug as 'Incomplete'.

However, if you believe that this is really a bug in Ubuntu, then we would
be grateful if you would provide a more complete description of the problem

Gparted tool. Now when I try to install Ubuntu on the newly formatted
partition this error occurs and I couldn't boot into any OS. I don't
want to format my Windows partition

[Bug 1780109] Re: Only Recommend rsyslog | system-log-daemon

2018-07-11 Thread Balint Reczey
** Description changed:

- On some systems they are not needed.
+ [Impact]
+
+ * gce-compute-image-packages depends on rsyslog | system-log-daemon
+ while there is need for images where none of those dependencies are
+ present.
+
+ * The upload demotes the dependencies to Recommends
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * This is seen when the package is fixed:
+ $ apt-cache show gce-compute-image-packages | grep rsyslog
+ Recommends: rsyslog | system-log-daemon
+
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * Since by default recommended packages are installed with the packages
+ recommending them the change should not cause issues in image generation
+ nor during package upgrades. When an image build process uses apt's
+ --no-install-recommends option, that would result rsyslog missing from
+ the image.

** Changed in: gce-compute-image-packages (Ubuntu)

Please run this and attach the ethtool.strace output file:

sudo strace -f -o ethtool.strace -s 500 ethtool -s enp4s0 wol g

I grabbed that command from your post in this bug earlier, please adjust
if I got it wrong. We want to see what the tool is doing when it fails.

[Bug 1779793] Re: open VM tools DKMS fails to build mostly due to multiply defined preprocessor symbols [error: implicit declaration of function 'init_timer_deferrable']

2018-07-11 Thread Andreas Hasenack
The open-vm-tools-dkms package has this deprecation warning:
"""
This package provides the source code for the vmxnet module, which was
superseded by vmxnet3. You should only install this package if you know
that you need the legacy vnxnet module.
Kernel source or headers are required to compile it using DKMS.
"""

With that in mind, do you still need it, or the fact you have it is just
because of an upgrade from an older version?

That being said, the installation of open-vm-tools-dkms worked just fine in my
xenial vm:

[Bug 1780664] Re: Recent libgl-mesa graphics update prevents drop down list menu appearing in apps like firefox three line/bar menu icon

2018-07-11 Thread Patrick Wigmore
Thank you @gedakc for pointing out that old package versions are
available to download from Launchpad. I did not know that.

The intersection of the set of packages which @gedakc downgraded and the set of
packages I downgraded is:
libegl1-mesa:amd64
libwayland-egl1-mesa:amd64
libgl1-mesa-dri:amd64
libgl1-mesa-dri:i386
mesa-vdpau-drivers:amd64

However, it is not possible to downgrade just the packages in this
intersection, due to unsatisfied dependencies.

[Bug 1768379] Re: python3-minimal should predepend on versioned version of python3-minimal

2018-07-11 Thread Brian Murray
It's not clear to me what is going on in the ubuntu-make autopkgtest for
artful/s390x but the failure isn't related to my SRU. From the log:

Investigating (0) autopkgtest-satdep:s390x < 0 @iU mK Nb Ib >
Broken autopkgtest-satdep:s390x Depends on ubuntu-desktop:s390x < none @un H >
  Removing autopkgtest-satdep:s390x because I can't find ubuntu-desktop:s390x
Done

There is no ubuntu-desktop for s390x in artful, so the failure makes
sense.
