[Bug 1782074] [NEW] [MIR] capstone
Public bug reported: INFO: I think this will be a MIR nack, but I wanted to file it to document why. TL;DR: we need two things that need to change to go on with this: - prove there is a real need for this - a team has to step up wanting to own this package --- Availability: The package is in Universe at least since Xenial Rationale: IMHO currently there is a rather low interest in this. It came in by qemu in Debian now enabling it, but we never had anybody ask for extended disassembly support so I'd think at least for now it might be not a huge demand. Security: The security history and the current state of security issues in the package must allow us to support the package for at least 9 months (60 for LTS support) without exposing its users to an inappropriate level of security risks. This requires checking of several things that are explained in detail in the subsection Security checks. Quality assurance: - the package seems to work for the use cases it has so far - no weird packaging hacks in place The package is maintained well in Debian/Ubuntu (check out the Debian PTS) - no bugs in Ubuntu - only a "get the new Version" bug in Debian UI standards: - this has a console based UI in regard to show the disassembly - not internationalized Standards compliance: - seems to be ok for FHS and Debian Policy standards Maintenance: - Due to the low demand nobody stepped up wanting to own the package for Main Background information: - the self set target is no less than "Our target is to make Capstone the ultimate disassembly engine for binary analysis and reversing in the security community." - It might be useful for debug/analysis of guests ** Affects: capstone (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Invalid ** Changed in: capstone (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1782074 Title: [MIR] capstone To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/capstone/+bug/1782074/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1767299] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 Installer creates swap partition too small
I totally agree that a 1 GB default is terrible. The problem is invisible to users who don't know how to deal with Linux memory management. The 6 GB laptop I have becomes unusable after a period of average browsing, even with Chrome's tab suspender. There's no warning that people are out of memory, there's just sluggishness and even error notifications that have internal failures. *** WORKAROUND CONSISTENTLY WORKING *** After doing the following: $ sudo apt purge nvidia-* $ sudo apt install nvidia-390 nvidia-driver-390 I have been able to consistently work around this bug by doing the following on each boot: 1) On boot commence press ESC once 2) Enter the Advanced Options for Ubuntu 3) Enter password for encrypted disk as appropriate 4) In Recovery Menu, select, "Network" and then, "Yes" in the modal confirmation dialog which is asking you to continue. 5) When the init process reaches: [OK] Reached Target Swap the initialisation process hangs. At this point, press CTRL + C once. 6) Wait for the boot process to complete and then select your desired desktop/display manager from the graphical display as appropriate, mine is MATE. 7) Provide your password as appropriate and login Some errors may be encountered upon display manager starting, some errors of mine referenced XOrg, but nothing which prevents me using my system. [Bug 1487941] Re: remote listener disabled, no indication in man page, config file or start-up logs
Hi Kenyon, this was indeed an intentional decision to allow us to reduce the potential attack surface of this high-privilege tool. Yeah, I'm not saying that's wrong. It's just the only explanation I can think of because your gnome-shell seems to be stuck in gvfs code querying the (encrypted) home directory. If correct then that's just a bug. Unfortunately I haven't yet found any other reports of such a hang, but that also would be because we don't get automated hang reports, only automated crash reports. So this might be a common problem and we'd never know. Before going so far as to ask you to test with a non-encrypted directory we need to check the most common cause of bugs first. That is third- party extensions. Open Shotwell 2. plug-in Android phone, tried both MTP or PTP modes 3. photo import never starts Additional info: This used to work in Fedora 27, but stopped as soon as I upgraded to Fedora 28. I traced it down to udev not tagging the device properly with ID_GPHOTO2 according to the udev rule: /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/40-libgphoto2.rules:ATTRS{idVendor}=="04e8", ATTRS{idProduct}=="6860", ENV{ID_GPHOTO2}="1", ENV{GPHOTO2_DRIVER}="proprietary", ENV{ID_MEDIA_PLAYER}="1" If you run `udevadm monitor -p` you will see that once you plug in the device, the "add" event tags the device properly, but then comes the "bind" event which untags it! The workaround in my case is the following change in the udev rules of libgphoto2: diff /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/40-libgphoto2.rules{.orig,} 7c7 < ACTION!="add", GOTO="libgphoto2_rules_end" --- > ACTION!="add|bind", GOTO="libgphoto2_rules_end" However this is not specific to libgphoto2! If you run the above udevadm command, you'll see that more tags added at the "add" event are being removed with the "bind" event. Probably all udev rules need to be changed! I believe I've found related bug reports, with much more software misbehaving: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=387454 https://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/modemmanager-devel/2018-May/006417.html https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=890641 https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/8221 Given that the brokenness appeared once I updated to Fedora 28, which included an update of systemd from 234 to 238, and given the above bug reports, I'm filing this under the "systemd" project. Feel free to recategorise as you deem. [Bug 1767559] Re: Provide libinput 1.10.6 in bionic-updates to fix specific touchpad and keyboard issues
Technically a stable release like bionic should stay on the original series it was released with (1.10) and get bug fixes only. So ideally only libinput 1.10.7, but also libinput isn't clear-cut about only releasing bug fixes in such releases and sometimes includes enhancements which would also make it more difficult to get authorised for bionic. Only as a last resort would we consider 1.11 for bionic. If 1.10.7 fixes your issues then I think it's what we should aim for: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libinput/1.10.7-1/+build/14916956 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1767559 Title: Provide libinput 1.10.6 in bionic-updates to fix specific touchpad and keyboard issues To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libinput/+bug/1767559/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1780071] Re: Error in system information after logging in to your account
** Description changed: + [Impact] + + * An error message is included in when rendering landscape-sysinfo +statistics through pam_motd if there are processes with a non-ascii +command. This is due to the fact that environment is not passed +by pam-motd. + + * As landscape-sysinfo is present on cloud-images, this bug affects +all images since bionic. + + * This change sets locale variables in the landscape-sysinfo wrapper, +so the python interpreter can know which locale to load. + + [Test Case] + + * Make sure the system default locale is configured with a valid +charset (e.g. /etc/default/locale contains "LANG=C.UTF-8"). + + * Spawn a process with non-ascii parameters (which are part of the +configured charset): sh -c 'sleep 60; echo holà mundo' & sudo login + + * Check the output of the motd + + [Regression Potential] + + * Since this changes only alters the landscape-sysinfo wrapper script, +its effects shouldn't alter other functionalities. + + * Although it is still possible to have a misconfigured locale file, +and run commands, the effect would be limited to an error message +similar to the one which is currently displayed. + + [Original Description] + + Exception after login: - Welcome to Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (GNU/Linux 4.15.0-24-generic x86_64) - * Documentation: https://help.ubuntu.com - * Management: https://landscape.canonical.com - * Support:https://ubuntu.com/advantage + * Documentation: https://help.ubuntu.com + * Management: https://landscape.canonical.com + * Support:https://ubuntu.com/advantage - System information as of Wed Jul 4 10:41:09 CEST 2018 + System information as of Wed Jul 4 10:41:09 CEST 2018 - System load:0.0 Swap usage:5% - Usage of /home: unknown Users logged in: 0 - Memory usage: 16% IP address for enp3s0: 192.168.20.12 + System load:0.0 Swap usage:5% + Usage of /home: unknown Users logged in: 0 + Memory usage: 16% IP address for enp3s0: 192.168.20.12 - => There were exceptions while processing one or more plugins.
