[Bug 1783264] Re: Xorg crash

2018-07-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. Please:

1. Apply the workaround from bug 994921.

2. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
 ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
   and tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

3. If step 2 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the contents of the /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id file on the
machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on the machine? If so
then please send them to us.

** Tags added: apport-collected bionic

** Description changed:

  If multiple packages are selected, the "Force version..." function/menu
  item is enabled and when invoking it/clicking on it, it simply does
  nothing. Either

* synaptic should provide possibility to force a version for all packages
if they share one (and display versions which can't be shared because one
program doesn't have it) or
* the menu item should be disabled.

[Bug 1690085]

2018-07-23 Thread kernelorg
There still does not appear to be a single consistent solution to this
problem and it exists in Ryzen 1xxx and 2xxx series.

Apparently not in the Epyc series, is that correct?

This thread is utterly embarrassing for AMD, truly embarrassing.

[Bug 1690085]

2018-07-23 Thread willemdreyer
(In reply to ValdikSS from comment #391)
> These lockups are probably not related to this bug. I've updated by Intel
> Sandy Bridge laptop to 4.17.5 from Fedora 28 repository and now I have
> random CPU lockups, too.
> 4.17.3 worked fine.

Please take a look at this report, it matches your description
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1598989 The user that
reported it also has an Intel CPU (Acer Aspire V3-771 from his attached
screenshot). I have experienced this issue once on one of my Ryzen
systems running 4.17.6, could it be an unrelated problem? Another one
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1598462

With regards to the original Ryzen Random Soft Lockup issue: I am
witnessing it on every kernel that I have tested so far, ranging from
kernel 4.10 through to 4.17.6. The frequency of the Ryzen soft lockup
has increased since kernel >= 4.15 in my experience. It could just be a
random effect as I am unaware of the cause of this problem.

I am running my machines at stock clocks and have the latest stable BIOS
updates install as of today on a Ryzen 1700 w/ MSI PRIME X370-PRO, Ryzen
1800X w/ ASRock Fatal1ty X370 Professional Gaming, and finally my
personal desktop Ryzen 1800X w/ X470 Taichi Ultimate w/ Seasonic 1000W
Platinum PSU (Haswell ready). All of my CPUs are running microcode patch
level 0x8001137

I can't find any correlation in workload, the issue occurs on web servers, VFIO
gaming, even live USB sessions. I used the following (try) to provide insight.
journalctl -t kernel --no-pager | grep "soft lockup" | awk -F"!" '{print $2}' |
sort -u
 [Compositor:4167]
 [kworker/10:1:18249]
 [kworker/1:3:418]
 [libvirtd:1226]
 [systemd:1]
 [Web Content:3505]

I have attempted CPU pinning, disabling ASLR completely. I have also
tried isolating workloads in virtual machines that do not cross CCX
units with hugepages (THP off). I am not an expert in knowledge of CCX,
NUMA, Infinity Fabric, etc... I could have made a mistake in my test.
That said, I am currently testing the "idle=nomwait" parameter in hope
of getting better results, who knows perhaps even a stable system.

[Bug 1644498] Re: apt-get update returns "AppStream cache update completed, but some metadata was ignored due to errors." periodically

2018-07-23 Thread SunBear
My system had the following packages upgraded:

Upgrade: linux-headers-generic:amd64 (4.4.0.130.136, 4.4.0.131.137),
linux-libc-dev:amd64 (4.4.0-130.156, 4.4.0-131.157), linux-image-
generic:amd64 (4.4.0.130.136, 4.4.0.131.137), linux-generic:amd64
(4.4.0.130.136, 4.4.0.131.137)

After that, there were errors again whenever I did `sudo apt update`. I
opened `/var/cache/app-info/xmls/fwupd.xml` as `sudo`, went to line 256
and changed symbol `&` to `&`, saved the changes, and ran command
`sudo appstreamcli refresh --force`. Thereafter, no errors appeared
during `sudo apt update`. W/o running  command `sudo appstreamcli
refresh --force` the error persisted.

Hope this finding will be helpful to others in the same situation.

** Description changed:

  [Impact]

  There are 500 error when creating AodhGnocchiAggregationByResourcesAlarm

  If openstack env has the same projects name ( e.g. services ) in
  different domain ( e.g. default, service_domain), It will get default
  domain even if you want to choose service_domain.

  This is affected to O, P, Q and Bionic ( but Ocata backporting is in
  progress, there is testing error so I didn't put it here )

  [TestCase]

  1. deploy openstack env (https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/p/3SXDQT9hWq/)
  - juju run-action heat/0 domain-setup

  2. create new domain, project, user, role etc
(https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/p/x8VDrzbWS3/)
  3. create image, flavor, network if needed
  4. source testrc (https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/p/b25bSY3ktf/)
  5. openstack keypair create testkey > ~/testkey.pem; chmod 600 ~/testkey.pem;
  6. prepare stack templates
  web.yaml(https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/p/vr6brGjqbp/)
  lb_server.yaml(https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/p/mmJ39VsCg6/)
- 7. openstack stack create -t ./web.yaml asg --wait
+ 7. adjust configuration
+ - gnocchi_external_project_owner = services below [api] on aodh.conf
+ - insert belows on credentials
+ project_domain_name = service_domain
+ user_domain_name = service_domain
+ 8. openstack stack create -t ./web.yaml asg --wait

  [Regression]
  This patch changes aodh code for gnocchi resource. this patch adds new option
for gnocchi resource setting, User should set this properly. After this patch,
restarting aodh(apache2) services. this causes short service unavailable.

[Bug 1781203] Re: Bonding "parameters" not supported

2018-07-23 Thread Daniel Axtens
I agree it is a bug. It is an unfortunate mix of netplan and systemd
decisions/features/bugs causing the issue.

Do you mind if we mark this as a duplicate of LP: #1781203? It's the
same root cause (netplan apply cannot change bond parameters) just with
a different presentation (netplan try). Once we fix netplan apply,
netplan try should work too.

[Bug 1781038] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2018-07-23 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From p...@au1.ibm.com 2018-07-24 00:03 EDT---
There are a couple of points about the CMA and HPT allocations:

1. The HPT is probably getting sized according to the maximum memory of
the guest, not the initial amount of memory. Since we haven't been given
any specifics about the configuration of the guests, I can't tell
whether they are configured with maxmem greater than current/initial
memory. If the guests are configured with a very large maxmem, their
HPTs will be much larger than the 128MB mentioned in previous comments,
and that will obviously make it much more likely to have problems
allocating the HPT.

(With a sufficiently recent host kernel, guest kernel and QEMU, the HPT
can be resized while the guest is running, and in that case, QEMU
determines the size of the HPT from the current memory rather than the
maximum memory. However, HPT resizing went into the kernel later than
4.4, and I don't believe it has been backported into the Ubuntu version
of 4.4, hence the "probably" in the previous paragraph.)

2. The memory in the CMA zone is not locked away in the way that
previous comments imply. Memory in the CMA zone is still available for
movable allocations, which includes page cache and anonymous pages for
user processes, as well as memory for KVM guests. It is not available
for kernel allocations (including things like network packet buffers).

Thus it is worth while trying a larger kvm_cma_resv_ratio value in
situations like this. When fragmentation occurs, the parts of the CMA
zone that are too fragmented to use for HPTs can still be used for
running user processes and backing KVM guests.

3. Other relevant factors are whether the guest has any real PCI devices
passed through to it, and whether the guest is backed with large pages.
If the guest has any PCI devices passed through, then when the guest
sets up the DDW (dynamic DMA windows) TCE (iommu) table at boot time,
that will have the effect of pinning all the guest memory. Some of the
guest memory may have been allocated from the CMA zone. Balbir's patch
(which is in the Ubuntu 4.4 kernel now) will try to migrate any pages
that are in the CMA zone to somewhere else before they get pinned, but
if memory is in short supply, it may not succeed in moving the page out
of the CMA zone, and also the patch doesn't cope with large (16M) pages,
whether THP or explicit large pages.

Thus it would be worth disabling THP in the host.

I'm not sure whether explicit large pages could ever come from the CMA
zone. If the guests were backed by large pages, it would be worth trying
without large-page backing.

[Bug 1729754] Re: Python3 version of launchpadlib doesn't properly upload binary attachments to Launchpad

2018-07-23 Thread Pierre Equoy
I followed the same procedure as in the description, using the same
poc.py script.

Prereq:

- a xenial LXC container with -proposed packages enabled
- a bionic LXC container with -proposed packages enabled

Steps:

1. Connect to the Xenial container and install the following packages:

python-launchpadlib
python3-launchpadlib
python-wadllib/xenial-proposed
python3-wadllib/xenial-proposed

2. Make sure the poc.py is configured to use Python3, then:

  a. attach a binary file:
$ APPORT_STAGING=1 ./poc.py
  b. attach a text file:
$ APPORT_STAGING=1 ./poc.py

→ In both cases, the file is attached properly. It can then be
downloaded and opened without problem.

3. Repeat step 2 using the poc.py in Python2 configuration

4. Repeat steps 1~3 using a Bionic container

→ In every cases, it worked out well for me. I attached a .tar.xz file,
a .jpg file (the one attached to this issue) as well as a .json file,
and in every cases I could download and open the file properly.

But the greenlet community is saying this is a gcc bug and it would not be safe
to revert the greenlet change that exposed this issue. I have no idea whether
that is true or not. Supposedly this should be fixed by
https://gcc.gnu.org/git/?p=gcc.git;a=commitdiff;h=9213244550335bcb2b8590a0d7d58ac74c932361
 but that fix is not present in the latest version of gcc (5.4.0) available for
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

Great. You installed it successfully.

Please tell us if Bluetooth now works?

If not then you can uninstall the test kernel with this command:

[Bug 1783225] Re: lxd-client from xenial-backports won't upgrade

2018-07-23 Thread Stéphane Graber
This is pretty weird and I'm wondering if this is an apt bug rather than
a lxd packaging bug...

I tried to reproduce your environment here by installing the packages
that were conflicting on your system, then doing the LXD upgrade from
stock xenial over to backports:

```
root@backports:~# dpkg -l | grep juju
ii  juju2.3.7-0ubuntu0.16.04.1
   all  next generation service orchestration system
ii  juju-2.02.3.7-0ubuntu0.16.04.1
   amd64Juju is devops distilled - client
ii  juju-deployer   0.6.4-0ubuntu1
   all  Deploy complex stacks of services using Juju
ii  python-jujuclient   0.50.5-0ubuntu2~16.04
   all  Python API client for Juju (Python 2)
root@backports:~# dpkg -l | grep lxd
ii  lxd 2.0.11-0ubuntu1~16.04.4
   amd64Container hypervisor based on LXC - daemon
ii  lxd-client  2.0.11-0ubuntu1~16.04.4
   amd64Container hypervisor based on LXC - client
root@backports:~# apt install -t xenial-backports lxd lxd-client
If that approach doesn't work, the next try would probably be to specify
exact version matches for all those packages to take another part of the
APT upgrade calculation out of the equation...
[Bug 1783248] [NEW] Update awscli to 1.15.15 from sid
2018-07-23 Thread Toni Spets
Public bug reported:
Please sync awscli 1.15.15-1 from cosmic/sid to bionic-updates.
It is an essential cloud management client and when it is left behind we
are forced to use pip to install the latest version. Currently it is
missing support for Secrets Manager (which 1.15.15 has) and that is
causing headaches.
As far as I understand, universe packages can have minor feature updates
during the lifetime of an LTS distribution and this tool in my opinion
needs to be synced periodically with sid to help with cloud deployments.
Thanks.
[Bug 1774780] Re: rtl8812au-dkms 4.3.8.12175.20140902+dfsg-0ubuntu7: rtl8812au kernel module failed to build [error: ‘_timer {aka struct timer_list}’ has no member named ‘data’]
2018-07-23 Thread Julio Lajara
Round 3 with this driver breaking on a kernel update. I found a similar
bug that was fixed in this package
https://bugzilla.rpmfusion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4798 (wl-kmod). If you go
to the link in the second comment and download the source RPM, it
contains a timer patch for kernel 4.15 .
Still trying to figure out how to translate that patch into something
thats usable in this driver.
[Bug 1772542] Re: after waking from sleep i get text radeon error message then return login screen
2018-07-23 Thread Chris Guiver
just an FYI.
(I upgraded my main 16.04 LTS to 18.04 [July 6]) so this install was
bumped to 18.10 and thus I can no longer do any testing on it.
More importantly though, I've not had the issue occur since (not once on
18.10), nor have I seen it on the now 18.04 LTS release-upgraded system
(same hardware; just different partitions; ie. dual boot).
(following command is for the 18.10 release-upgraded box)
guiverc@d960-ubu2:~$   dpkg -l |grep 'caff\|light-lock'
[Fix]
Cherry-pick 5d988308283ecf062fa88f20ae05c52cce0bcdca from upstream.
This patch stops cephfs from reusing current->journal for its own
internal use, which means that it's valid when ext4 uses it via fscache.
[Testcase]
A user has been using the following test case:
( cat /proc/fs/fscache/stats > ~/test.log; i=0; while true; do
touch small; echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches & md5sum small; let "i++";
if ! (( $i % 1000 )); then
echo "Test iteration $i done" >> ~/test.log; cat /proc/fs/fscache/stats
>> ~/test.log;
fi;
done ) > ~/nohup.out 2>&1
(It boils down to "touch file; drop caches; read file")
Without the patch, this fails very quickly - usually the first time, always
within a few iterations. With the patch, the user ran this loop for over 60
hours without incident.
[Regression potential]
The change is not trivial, but is limited to cephfs, and has been in mainline
since v4.16. So the risk of regression is well contained.
