[Bug 1784101] [NEW] Ubuntu partition fills automatically
Public bug reported: Hi When I first updated Ubuntu 16.04.4, about 3 weeks ago, I found out being rapidly short of disk memory on the partition, and then could not even make a screenshot. I went to the French forum and after a long search we found out that "pcie_aspm" was responsible for that. Actually it fills up very rapidly 2 logs (the 2 last ones on the following list) * ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo du -ma --max-depth=1 /mnt/5 | sort -n 0 /mnt/5/initrd.img 0 /mnt/5/initrd.img.old 0 /mnt/5/vmlinuz 0 /mnt/5/vmlinuz.old 1 /mnt/5/cdrom 1 /mnt/5/dev 1 /mnt/5/lib64 1 /mnt/5/lost+found 1 /mnt/5/media 1 /mnt/5/mnt 1 /mnt/5/opt 1 /mnt/5/proc 1 /mnt/5/root 1 /mnt/5/run 1 /mnt/5/snap 1 /mnt/5/srv 1 /mnt/5/sys 1 /mnt/5/tmp 4 /mnt/5/lib32 13 /mnt/5/bin 13 /mnt/5/sbin 14 /mnt/5/etc 211 /mnt/5/boot 237 /mnt/5/home 1035/mnt/5/lib 4383/mnt/5/usr 31289 /mnt/5/var 37196 /mnt/5 *** /mnt/5 is the mounting point of Ub partition (sda5) on the live key Here is the forum address of the post (sorry it's in French but the terminal copies are self explaining) https://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=2028634 Yesterday, after reseting the logs ... * ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ echo | sudo tee /mnt/5/var/log/kern.log ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ echo | sudo tee /mnt/5/var/log/syslog ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo du -ma --max-depth=1 /mnt/5 | sort -n 0 /mnt/5/initrd.img 0 /mnt/5/initrd.img.old 0 /mnt/5/vmlinuz 0 /mnt/5/vmlinuz.old 1 /mnt/5/cdrom 1 /mnt/5/dev 1 /mnt/5/lib64 1 /mnt/5/lost+found 1 /mnt/5/media 1 /mnt/5/mnt 1 /mnt/5/opt 1 /mnt/5/proc 1 /mnt/5/root 1 /mnt/5/run 1 /mnt/5/snap 1 /mnt/5/srv 1 /mnt/5/sys 1 /mnt/5/tmp 4 /mnt/5/lib32 13 /mnt/5/bin 13 /mnt/5/sbin 14 /mnt/5/etc 211 /mnt/5/boot 237 /mnt/5/home 995 /mnt/5/var 1035/mnt/5/lib 4383/mnt/5/usr 6902/mnt/5 *** ... [Bug 1740143] Re: backport btrfs ssd mount option fix
Hi, patch author here. You can ask BTRFS maintainers by mailing to the linux-bt...@vger.kernel.org mailing list. Also, the patch author email address is in the commit itself, for quick questions. :-) I just stumbled across this ubuntu issue while being bored and reading https://wiki.debian.org/Btrfs where it's linked. If you're using btrfs, I would personally not recommend using a linux 4.4 kernel, but at least 4.9 and preferably 4.14. The btrfs project does not really have enough resources to properly manage tracking and sorting out fixes and updating older kernels than the latest LTS. The latest LTS (4.14 now) has the highest chance of getting important fixes, for all other versions it depends on the knowledge and decisions of the patch author what happens. (By the way, this is also the reason Redhat dropped btrfs support: if you don't really know what you're doing (which means investing in having a bunch of serious btrfs developers in your team) then trying to selectively backports things becomes a real mine field quickly.) Aside from that, the "has a negative impact on usability" is certainly true, and including this change in kernels < 4.14 that are used by Joe Average who wants to use btrfs is certainly useful. Backporting this one is not risky, the change doesn't bite much. Apart from the mount option behaviour change that's mentioned (which can either be picked or ignored) the old code has pretty much been there since 2008. Disclaimer: I'm a Debian user, so I don't follow ubuntu kernels closely. When looking at... https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/FAQ#Kernel.2FSupport.Ubuntu_Kernel_Support ...I would recommend btrfs users to just move to Ubuntu 18.x. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1740143 Title: backport btrfs ssd mount option fix To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1740143/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1783597] Re: The disk-space-needed estimate doesn't account for the snaps
Given that the snaps are located in /var/lib/snapd and we currently allocate free space to download debs in /var/cache/apt/archives and that it is a corner case for those to not be the same mount point it is likely that the space allocated for /var/cache/apt/archives would be enough free space. However, the release upgrader doesn't currently clean up the download .debs at all let alone before installing the snaps. So one solution would be to have the release upgrader clean up after itself. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1783597 Title: The disk-space-needed estimate doesn't account for the snaps To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/1783597/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1783850] Re: Cannot find display configuration
It seems I spoke too soon. When I started the machine back up again today using 4.4.0-130, the bug was back again. It seems that when I restart, sometimes it will start without the error message, then it will be back again if I restart again. Its quite random. Another thing I have noticed is that if I get the xorg error message, I also lose the WiFi. ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released => New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1783850 Title: Cannot find display configuration To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1783850/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I think the proper way to get rid of this warning would be to specify the action associated to a keysym directly, not involving any "Any" patters in the compat, that is, instead of interpret Any+Lock { action= LockMods(modifiers=Lock); }; interpret Any + Any { action= SetMods(modifiers=modMapMods); }; (in compat/basic), use interpret Caps_Lock { action= LockMods(modifiers=Lock); }; interpret Shift_L { action= SetMods(modifiers=Shift); }; interpret Shift_R { action= SetMods(modifiers=Shift); }; This might break some xmodmap setups of those very conservative user still using xmodmap... > Error:Key added to map for multiple modifiers > Using Mod2, ignoring Mod4. > Error:Key added to map for multiple modifiers > Using Mod3, ignoring Mod5. The former comes from "modifier_mapping" in symbols/level5, the latter from "lock" in the same file, or something similar. The purpose is associate the virtual modifiers LevelFive and NumLock to a real modifier, and this is done using keycodes HYPR and MDSW which are known not to be produced by hardware. A proper fix would be not to use virtual modifiers LevelFive and NumLock (and LevelThree and AltGr) at all, and use real modifiers directly. This would avoid the need of such hacks as the one in symbols/level5, without any disadvantage. However, the error messages state that the the modifiers are set up as desired. From the practical perspective, therefore, there is no pressing need for a change. Reply at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubu

[Bug 1697800] Re: [regression] firefox dies with SIGILL on machines without SSE2
Nearly a year later, this is still an immediate problem. For people finding this bug via Google, the only fix I've found that cares about security is to use Debian GNU/Linux instead of Ubuntu and `apt install firefox-esr`. This works because the stable (Stretch) version of Debian uses Firefox-ESR 52.9.0 which was released last month (https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/52.9.0/releasenotes/). However, I notice that the next Extended Support Release of Firefox will be based on version 60, and thus I presume will have the same SIGILL problems due to an incorrect ABI if it is compiled in the same way as the current Firefox. So Debian will not be a panacea. I understand that time marches on, as do ABIs, but minor updates to an Ubuntu LTS release should not add new requirements on the CPU architecture. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1697800 Title: [regression] firefox dies with SIGILL on machines without SSE2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1697800/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1784065] Re: package libglib2.0-0 2.48.2-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: triggers ci file contains unknown directive `interest-await'
This bug report is actually about an upgrade from Ubuntu 14.04 to Ubuntu 16.04 where dpkg is being upgraded from 1.17.5ubuntu5.8. That version of dpkg does not have support for the "-await" alias variants and dpkg was updated after libglib2.0-0 so that package upgrade failed. This is fallout of the changes in bug 1780996. The fix is to make the packages changed in bug 1780996 pre-depend on dpkg greater than or equal to 1.17.21. It is also worth investigating the archive for other packages in Ubuntu 16.04 that use "-await" but do not pre-depend on dpkg. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1784065 Title: upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04 fails due to `interest-await' in trigger To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glib2.0/+bug/1784065/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1784065] Re: package libglib2.0-0 2.48.2-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: triggers ci file contains unknown directive `interest-await'
Unreproducible here in a xenial chroot w/ same versions of dpkg and libglib2.0-0. The format of the triggers file looks correct. Yan, is this problem reproducible if you run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a && sudo apt -f install && sudo apt install libglib2.0-0' in a terminal? Otherwise, my guess is that this a rogue bitflip error rather than a bug in libglib2.0-0. See also https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingInstallationIssues#triggers_ci_file_contains_unknown_directive_syntax which points to LP: #500042. ** Changed in: glib2.0 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1784065 Title: package libglib2.0-0 2.48.2-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: triggers ci file contains unknown directive `interest-await' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glib2.0/+bug/1784065/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
