[Bug 1784542] [NEW] Realtek ethernet not functional on 4.15.0-29.31

2018-07-30 Thread Wajuz Donny
Public bug reported:

When using ethernet (Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 using built-in r8169
driver v2.3LK-NAPI), dhclient stuck at DHCPDISCOVER. When using static
IP, nm shows it's connected, but I can't ping anywhere.

This issue only shows up in 4.15.0-29.31. I tried the following versions
without issue:
1) 4.18.0-041800rc7
2) 4.16.0-041600
3) 4.15.0-23
4) 4.15.0-20

No issue on wifi (Intel 7260 iwlwifi) and USB ethernet (Dell D3100
Dock).

[Bug 1784543] [NEW] Xenial update to 4.4.141 stable release

2018-07-30 Thread Khaled El Mously
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The 4.4.141 upstream stable
patch set is now available. It should be included in the Ubuntu
   kernel as well.

   git://git.kernel.org/

TEST CASE: TBD

The following patches from the 4.4.141 stable release shall be
applied:

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1775329] Re: Feature request: Add a handler for CVE URLs

2018-07-30 Thread Alex Murray
Ok so any guidance as to how to proceed - Jeremy do you have a
preference for how this should work? Would you like it to also support
Debian in a similar manner and link to the Debian CVE tracker? In this
case would you prefer runtime detection (via say /etc/os-release) or
compile-time selection of which CVE tracker to link to?

[Bug 1784473] Re: [radeon] Ubuntu boots to a black screen

2018-07-30 Thread Amit Dube
apport information

** Description changed:

After a fresh install of ubuntu 18.04LTS(dual booted with windows 7)
when I selected ubuntu from the grub menu to boot into the OS. But I got
a black screen I waited for few seconds but I was still at black screen.
So, I forced shutdown the laptop. Again in second attempt to login I got
black screen this time I waited for more than a minute and pressed power
button once which suspended the pc then I pressed enter and I was
presented with login screen. To solve the problem I followed this guide
  https://askubuntu.com/questions/1029624/ubuntu-18-04-live-boot-leads-to-
  blank-screen

and changed quiet splash to nomodeset quiet splash. After applying this fix
there was no black screen at the time of login, but the laptop started to
freeze randomly even when left idle for more than 30 mins it would freeze. I
had force shutdown each time and this happened very frequently.
I again changed nomodeset quiet splash to quiet splash, which again leads to
black screen after selecting ubuntu from the grub menu. I also did RAM test
using Memtest86 from GRUB and everything was fine

[Bug 1784473] Re: [radeon] Ubuntu boots to a black screen

2018-07-30 Thread Amit Dube
I think they are not same. In bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1782347 the
user says he needs to boot with nomodeset for both the installed and liveCD.
I can boot with bootable pendrive just fine without using nomodeset.

Also the user says "GDM3 will not boot (the screen will keep on flashing
in semi-textual mode, with a white mouse arrow stuck)."

I on the other hand get a black screen(no mouse cursor or flashing) after
selecting ubuntu from grub menu.
Work-around for this is that I wait for a minute and press the power button to
suspend and press any key to get to the login screen.
So I think GDM3 Boots.

I aslo tried your advice
"Please edit your /etc/gdm3/custom.conf and comment out:

  WaylandEnable=false"

but it didn't work and had to boot with work-around I mentioned above.

Also adding nomodeset allowed me to boot without black screen, but it
randomly froze the laptop forcing to do a force shutdown. So I removed
nomodeset.

[Bug 1710637] Re: Input falls through to gdm3 and terminates the session on Ctrl+C after udevadm trigger is executed under wayland

2018-07-30 Thread Bernd Wurst
I have this bug on 18.04 with alt+left.

After executing the dumpkeys/loadkeys workaround, then alt+left stops
doing strange things but now, alt+F4 drops me to console 4 which is even
worse.

[Bug 1784065] Re: upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04 fails due to `interest-await' in trigger

2018-07-30 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Yan, or anyone else affected,

Accepted glib2.0 into xenial-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glib2.0/2.48.2-0ubuntu4 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-xenial to verification-done-xenial. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-xenial. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1784529] Bug is not a security issue

2018-07-30 Thread Alex Murray
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Steps:
1. Start Rhythmbox and play music
2. Press Print Screen in keyboard
3. Music stops and cannot be played again in Rhythmbox
4. If the music does not stop from the first time try step 2 again and again
until it stops

I can navigate the UI of Rhythmbox, but I cannot play music. I have to
kill the sleeping process in order to play music from Rhythmbox again.

I can reproduce this bug in Totem and Clementine too. They present this error:
pa_stream_writable_size() failed: Connection terminated

I have attached my daemon.conf file.

I can't reproduce this... Can you provide the pulseaudio server log?
Instructions:

1. Disable automatic starting of PulseAudio. If your distro uses
systemd's socket activation to start PulseAudio, run

systemctl --user --now mask pulseaudio.service pulseaudio.socket

If your distro doesn't do that, put "autospawn = no" to
~/.config/pulse/client.conf.

2. Stop pulseaudio with "killall pulseaudio" (the previous systemctl
command might have stopped it already, though).

3. Start pulseaudio in a terminal with verbose logging:

pulseaudio -vv

4. Once the initial burst of logging has stopped, hit enter a few times
to add some empty lines in the log. The empty lines mark the beginning
of the interesting part.

5. Start playing music with Rhythmbox, and try to reproduce the problem.

6. Once the music stops, hit enter again a few times in the terminal
window where pulseaudio is running, to make it easy to find the place
where something went wrong. (The "Connection terminated" error suggests
that PulseAudio might have crashed, though. In that case adding this
step can be skipped.)

7. Stop pulseaudio with Ctrl-C.

8. Copy the full log from the terminal and attach it to this bug.

9. To return things back to normal, run

systemctl --user unmask pulseaudio.service pulseaudio.socket

if you masked the service before. And remove the "autospawn = no" line
from client.conf if you added it there.

[Bug 1784535] [NEW] ubuntu_quota_smoke_test failed with KVM kernel

2018-07-30 Thread Po-Hsu Lin

According to Kamal's comment:
CONFIG_QUOTA (and various other quota-related-looking configs) appear to be
enabled already in the linux-kvm kernels -- but the required modules just end

[Bug 1784523] [NEW] Please sponsor elementary-xfce 0.12-1ubuntu1 for package transition

2018-07-30 Thread Sean Davis
Public bug reported:

The elementary-xfce icon theme has long been included in the xubuntu-
icon-theme package, included by default in Xubuntu. Now that elementary-
xfce-icon-theme has been packaged in Debian and synced to Ubuntu, these
two packages conflict.

The attached package debdiff includes the needed change for the package
transition on the elementary-xfce side. This is also included in the packaging
VCS:
https://salsa.debian.org/xfce-extras-team/elementary-xfce/commit/e0e79a2c253a277fdd9bb94ad3bfa2dce05ad1ce

Once this package has been sponsored, I will upload the updated xubuntu-artwork
source package, completing the transition. The latest commits here apply the
needed changes:

[Bug 1645555] Re: Dropbear initramfs hook creates authorized_keys file in an invalid folder

2018-07-30 Thread Ibrahim Karahan
Still exists on Ubuntu 18.04:

$ sudo lsinitramfs /boot/initrd.img-4.15.0-29-generic  | grep root
root-Fc4un7
root-Fc4un7/.ssh
root-Fc4un7/.ssh/authorized_keys

The temp folder created with "$DESTDIR/root-XX" scheme is garbage.
It's never renamed to /root folder, thus Dropbear fails to find the
authorized_keys file.

The workaround in #1 still works.

2018-07-30 Thread Alex Murray
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

Looks like an invalid configuration option was listed - did you modify
the configuration?

Since there is not enough information in your report to begin triage or to
differentiate between a local configuration problem and a bug in Ubuntu, I
am marking this bug as "Incomplete". We would be grateful if you would:
provide a more complete description of the problem, explain why you
believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem specific to your
system, and then change the bug status back to "New".

For local configuration issues, you can find assistance here:

With pulseaudio:
1) Headset is loud, even on lowest possible volume level
2) If I set volume below 35 per centages (below -27 db) the output becomes
silent immediately.
3) On some computers, there is possibility to change analog mode to digital
(S/PDIF). With digital mode it becomes calmer: the loudest volume level
produces low volume, it is the same as 35% of analog mode, and the lowest
volume level may be still determined.

Hmmm, interesting!

I wouldn't hold out too long on giving the friendly tools smarts
vis-a-vis conditionals, since that kind of logic isn't necessarily
straightforward (i.e. can be hard/time-consuming to implement), it's not
necessary for power/paranoid users (we're happy resorting to a text
editor), and even low-skill users are better served by a debconf prompt
anyway.
