> When host call fails (even with timeout), it returns "1" claiming "dns_has_local()=true". 0 = true, 1 = false (you implied the opposite) What may add confusion here is the grep -vq check is like an extra check to make sure host didn't return 0 (success = we found .local) but then say 'not found' anyway. So it returns 0 (true) when host returns 0. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. On upgrading a service this service has to be restarted to pick up the fixes. Rather rarely a real issue occurs that the newer version does e.g. fail with the formerly working configuration. But most of the time what happens is, that a service was installed, but stays unconfigured or experimented with but left in a broken state. Now on any update of the related packages that service has to be restarted, but since its config is incomplete/faulty it fails to restart. Therefore the update of that package has to consider itself incomplete. Depending on your particular case there are two solutions: - either remove the offending package if you don't want to continue using it. - Or if you do want to keep it please fix the configuration so that re-starting the service will work. Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete. If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers to get help for this sort of problem here: http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem, explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New. ** Changed in: mysql-5.7 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1788544 Title: package mysql-server-5.7 5.7.23-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: installed mysql-server-5.7 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-5.7/+bug/1788544/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1758548] Re: impossible to visualize: Book does not have a format available
Hello, Yes, I confirm that the problem still occurs, but randomly. Under Ubuntu 16.04 LTS up to date and Calibre 3.29 in any case. I just upgraded Calibre version 3.30 at the moment, so I do not have enough perspective for it. [Bug 1788672] Re: apt install virt-manager - does not work
Thanks Hans for the pre-triage! @Lukas - I have seen a few cases when booting from size-minimized images that even if the universe repository is enabled there never was an "apt update" run (The data packed into the image would be stale anyway, so there is no reason to bloat it), and therefore no sources to install it are known. [Bug 1752411] Re: bind9-host, avahi-daemon-check-dns.sh hang forever causes network connections to get stuck
I agree with the sentiment that 5 seconds feels too long, however as a workaround I decided I would just copy the existing timeout. I certainly would not want to make it longer since this is in the critical boot path. I would generally agree that in general a DNS request should fail faster however there are some cases where it won't, e.g. spanning tree bring up on ports can take 2 seconds. My hope is to correctly fix host after getting this in, since the impact is very high for affected users. This check may actually be able to go away, I believe both systemd- resolved and libnss-mdns (latest version that I think is not in bionic) implement the .local label checking to do this at runtime instead of this old hack. So for cosmic+ we can probably get rid of this logic, which always sucked anyway. As we only needed to really disable nss-mdns and not avahi entirely (since apps should normally resolve the IPs using avahi's API anyway, the impact to actual avahi usage is low). Since the impact is high but only on a smaller subset of users, I think we should go with matching the current timeout for now and worry about further improvements later. I've verified the cosmic upload is working as expected on a non-affected system. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1752411 Title: bind9-host, avahi-daemon-check-dns.sh hang forever causes network connections to get stuck To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/avahi/+bug/1752411/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The documentation for this (for 4.7.6) can be found listed here: https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/4.7/man-html/vfs_zfsacl.8.html However, when attempting to use the zfsacl vfs module in a smb.conf file like so: [storage] path = "/mnt/zfs_pool/storage" printable = no veto files = /.snapshot/.windows/.mac/.zfs/ writeable = yes browseable = yes access based share enum = no recycle:repository = .recycle/%U recycle:keeptree = yes recycle:versions = yes recycle:touch = yes recycle:directory_mode = 0777 recycle:subdir_mode = 0700 vfs objects = streams_xattr recycle zfsacl hide dot files = no guest ok = no nfs4:mode = special nfs4:acedup = merge nfs4:chown = yes Samba will start the service fine, but then reports the following in log.smbd when attempting to access the share: $ tail -f /var/log/samba/log.smbd [2018/08/23 17:33:08.065547, 0] ../source3/smbd/service.c:623(make_connection_snum) vfs_init failed for service storage [2018/08/23 17:33:08.065887, 0] ../lib/util/modules.c:49(load_module) Error loading module '/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/samba/vfs/zfsacl.so': /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/samba/vfs/zfsacl.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory [2018/08/23 17:33:08.065899, 0] ../source3/smbd/vfs.c:184(vfs_init_custom) error probing vfs module 'zfsacl': NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL [2018/08/23 17:33:08.065905, 0] ../source3/smbd/vfs.c:379(smbd_vfs_init) smbd_vfs_init: vfs_init_custom failed for zfsacl [2018/08/23 17:33:08.065911, 0] ../source3/smbd/service.c:623(make_connection_snum) vfs_init failed for service storage I have the following packages installed (in reference to both zfs and samba4): ~$ sudo dpkg -l | grep -i samba && sudo dpkg -l | grep -i zfs ii libwbclient0:amd642:4.7.6+dfsg~ubuntu-0ubuntu2.2 amd64Samba winbind client library ii python-samba 2:4.7.6+dfsg~ubuntu-0ubuntu2.2 amd64Python bindings for Samba ii samba 2:4.7.6+dfsg~ubuntu-0ubuntu2.2 amd64SMB/CIFS file, print, and login server for Unix ii samba-common 2:4.7.6+dfsg~ubuntu-0ubuntu2.2all common files used by both the Samba server and client ii samba-common-bin 2:4.7.6+dfsg~ubuntu-0ubuntu2.2 amd64Samba common files used by both the server and the client ii samba-dev 2:4.7.6+dfsg~ubuntu-0ubuntu2.2 amd64tools for extending Samba ii samba-dsdb-modules2:4.7.6+dfsg~ubuntu-0ubuntu2.2 amd64Samba Directory Services Database ii samba-libs:amd64 2:4.7.6+dfsg~ubuntu-0ubuntu2.2 amd64Samba core libraries ii samba-vfs-modules 2:4.7.6+dfsg~ubuntu-0ubuntu2.2 amd64Samba Virtual FileSystem plugins ii libzfs2linux 0.7.5-1ubuntu16.3 amd64OpenZFS filesystem library for Linux ii libzpool2linux0.7.5-1ubuntu16.3 amd64OpenZFS pool library for Linux ii zfs-zed 0.7.5-1ubuntu16.3 amd64OpenZFS Event Daemon ii zfsutils-linux0.7.5-1ubuntu16.3 amd64command-line tools to manage OpenZFS filesystems When looking in that folder, we have the following list of packages: ~$ ls -al /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/samba/vfs/ total 1148 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Aug 20 21:44 . drwxr-xr-x 9 root root 12288 Aug 23 02:07 .. -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 39736 Aug 6 11:30 acl_tdb.so -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 35640 Aug 6 11:30 acl_xattr.so -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 27376 Aug 6 11:30 aio_fork.so -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 15088 Aug 6 11:30 aio_pthread.so -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 15160 Aug 6 11:30 audit.so -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 27376 Aug 6 11:30 btrfs.so -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 31472 Aug 6 11:30 cap.so -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 56048 Aug 6 11:30 catia.so -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 51952 Aug 6 11:30 ceph.so -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 15088 Aug 6 11:30 commit.so -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 10992 Aug 6 11:30 crossrename.so -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 6896 Aug 6 11:30 default_quota.so -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 10992 Aug 6 11:30 dfs_samba4.so -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 15088 Aug 6 11:30 dirsort.so -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 10992 Aug 6 11:30 expand_msdfs.so -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 19256 Aug 6 11:30 extd_audit.so -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 6896 Aug 6 11:30 fake_perms.so -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 10992 Aug 6 11:30 fileid.so -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 105272 Aug 6 11:30 fruit.so -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 56120 Aug 6 11:30 full_audit.so -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 10992 Aug 6 11:30 linux_xfs_sgid.so -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 47856 Aug 6 11:30 media_harmo
[Bug 1784501] Re: libvirtd is unable to configure bridge devices inside of LXD containers
Nothing has changed regarding privileged vs. unprivileged settings. I just set this up again with a privileged container, and I believe the cause of the regression to actually be in libvirt. I think it must have silently ignored the bridge configuration error before and marked the network active (such that it shows up in `virsh net-list` without the `--all` parameter). Reasoning: yesterday before I rebuilt my test container, MAAS showed only two networks; none of which were virbr* interfaces (I never explicitly deleted the default virsh network). Today when I encountered this bug, MAAS showed three (because I made the container privileged). Additionally, MAAS KVM pods check to see if a `default` or `maas` network is active in virsh before allowing a KVM pod to be composed. Therefore, unless libvirt believed its `default` network was up and running, my previous test environment would not have worked at all. Conclusion: we're just now seeing this because libvirt (in bionic- updates) began raising an error and failing to mark a network active in the case that it could not configure the bridge STP parameters. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1784501 Title: libvirtd is unable to configure bridge devices inside of LXD containers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1784501/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1709164] Re: [MIR] bubblewrap
Ubuntu does enable unprivileged userns by default (at least on desktop installs?), but there's at least one exception to watch out for: the lightdm "guest session" option applies an AppArmor policy that allows CLONE_NEWUSER but denies any use of the resulting capabilities; see also https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1434528 where we ran into that with Firefox. There's an exception for Chromium's sandbox, so in principle that could also be done for bubblewrap. ** Bug watch added: Mozilla Bugzilla #1434528 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1434528 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1709164 Title: [MIR] bubblewrap To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bubblewrap/+bug/1709164/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1781895] Re: Bluetooth: Redpine: Bionics: L2test transfer is failed to start in Ubuntu 18.04
This bug is awaiting verification that the kernel in -proposed solves the problem. Please test the kernel and update this bug with the results. If the problem is solved, change the tag 'verification-needed- bionic' to 'verification-done-bionic'. If the problem still exists, change the tag 'verification-needed-bionic' to 'verification-failed- bionic'. If verification is not done by 5 working days from today, this fix will be dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you! ** Tags added: verification-needed-bionic -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1781895 Title: Bluetooth: Redpine: Bionics: L2test transfer is failed to start in Ubuntu 18.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1781895/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
