[Bug 1792672] Re: Regression: acpi reports battery state incorrectly after sleep

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected xenial

** Description changed:

On Samsung Series 9 laptops the battery state and the charger status are
  incorrectly reported in kernel 4.15.

This bug is a regression: it has been fixed in 2012 [1] it used to work
  fine until Linux 14.10 (included).

  Quoting Matthew McCallum from
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/971061/comments/161

  > If I disconnect power, remove the back cover, disconnect both the main
battery and the backup battery, I am able to get power status updates (e.g.
battery will show as charging/charged when plugged in, or just regular battery
when not). Once I sleep, I have to repeat this process if I want the battery
status to work again.

[Bug 1792134] Re: Upgrading to 4.15.0-33 caused the system to fail to boot

2018-09-14 Thread Michael Richey
Same issue here. Upgrade to 4.15.0-34 gave this error:

VFS Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)

choosing the previous version in grub works.

I re-ran update-initramfs and update-grub, no changes. Removed and
reinstalled 4.15.0-34, no changes.

[Bug 1792668] Re: gnome-calendar fails to sync, update, or cache

2018-09-14 Thread ethanay
1. Renamed "calendar" folder under ~/.cache/evolution, and also the
~/.config/evolution and .local/share/evolution folders
2. rebooted. Then I
3. de-activated and re-activated "calendar" under each separate online account.
4. then I restarted Calendar app.

This appears to have fixed many of the issues described above. But has
also produced a crash every time I modify a setting. These should be
automatically reported as bugs.

[Bug 1792668] Re: gnome-calendar fails to sync, update, or cache

2018-09-14 Thread ethanay
** Description changed:

Not sure if this is three different bugs or three symptoms of the same
problem, but I am observing three different problematic behaviors on a
fresh 18.04.1 install with latest updates:

  1. Failure to sync: I have all my online google accounts active, but the
calendar does not seem to grab new events from the online database. Nor
- does it transmit new events to the online database.
+ does it transmit new events to the online database. Nor does it do any
+ of these things when manually selecting the "synchronize" option under
+ the menu.

  2. Failure to update: I cannot manually add new events to the calendar.
Although the app appears fully interactive, none of my interactions
(e.g., adding an event) seem to actually get entered into the calendar,
  even locally.

  3. Failure to cache: I have many local calendars displayed that the

[Bug 1792672] [NEW] Regression: acpi reports battery state incorrectly after sleep

2018-09-14 Thread Gioele Barabucci
Public bug reported:

On Samsung Series 9 laptops the battery state and the charger status are
incorrectly reported in kernel 4.15.

This bug is a regression: it has been fixed in 2012 [1] it used to work
fine until Linux 14.10 (included).

Quoting Matthew McCallum from
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/971061/comments/161

> battery and the backup battery, I am able to get power status updates (e.g.

[Bug 1792670] [NEW] Kernel module cannot be built on Linux 4.17+

2018-09-14 Thread Fox Foster
Public bug reported:

‌‌Hi,

Apologies in advance if I have somehow messed up the bug reporting
process - I'm quite new at this.

I tried to install virtualbox on a Linux 4.19-rc3-based Ubuntu
machine, but virtualbox-dkms wouldn't build as it references
the old pci_get_bus_and_slot() function that seems to have been
removed between kernel versions 4.16 and 4.17:

[...]
/var/lib/dkms/virtualbox/5.2.10/build/vboxpci/linux/VBoxPci-linux.c: In
function ‘vboxPciLinuxDevDetachHostDriver’:
/var/lib/dkms/virtualbox/5.2.10/build/vboxpci/linux/VBoxPci-linux.c:92:40:
error: implicit declaration of function ‘pci_get_bus_and_slot’; did you mean
‘pci_get_domain_bus_and_slot’? [-Werror=implicit-function-declaration]
 # define PCI_DEV_GET_SLOT(bus, devfn)  pci_get_bus_and_slot(bus, devfn)
[...]

Editing /var/lib/dkms/virtualbox/5.2.10/source/vboxpci/linux/VBoxPci-linux.c:92
to refer to pci_get_slot(bus, devfn) instead of pci_get_bus_and_slot(bus, devfn)
has fixed the compile error, though I am not sure if this is
correct -- perhaps I should have used pci_get_domain_bus_and_slot(0, bus, devfn)
instead.

Sorry if this is already covered ground.

[Bug 1792668] [NEW] gnome-calendar fails to sync, update, or cache

2018-09-14 Thread ethanay
Public bug reported:

Not sure if this is three different bugs or three symptoms of the same
problem, but I am observing three different problematic behaviors on a
fresh 18.04.1 install with latest updates:

1. Failure to sync: I have all my online google accounts active, but the
calendar does not seem to grab new events from the online database. Nor
does it transmit new events to the online database.

2. Failure to update: I cannot manually add new events to the calendar.
Although the app appears fully interactive, none of my interactions
(e.g., adding an event) seem to actually get entered into the calendar,
even locally.

3. Failure to cache: I have many local calendars displayed that the
calendar app has appeared to pick up from other applications' data. I
try to manually remove them by opening the calendars display, clicking
on the calendar and clicking "remove." This appears to remove the
calendar from this menu, but it doesn't remove it from being
displayable. When I close and re-open the application, the local
calendars have reappeared. Also, I cannot permanently rename calendars.
When I close the app and re-open it, the calendar name has reverted to
its original state.

This might be related in part to another issue, where I have my
UbuntuOne account active, but still get prompted regularly for my
username and password from various programs.

[Bug 1776044] Re: nvidia-340 crashes display in 18.04 Bionic when no Nvidia GPU present

2018-09-14 Thread JeanLuke
I have the same issue, but I do have a GeForce 8200 integral on the
motherboard. I was happily running 16.04 with nvidia-304 driver.
Upgraded to 18.04 and nvidia-340 (recommended driver) and the system
hangs a few minutes after booting. If I go into recovery mode and
remove nvidia-340, all good.

[Bug 1780332] Re: vaultlocker does not ensure that udev is triggered to create /dev/disk/by-uuid/ symlink and fails

2018-09-14 Thread asi
Look for "dmsetup udevcomplete" call in udev rules. This is the sync point when
libdevmapper continues. This must be the last call in udev chain rules related
to device-mapper devices.
(Run cryptsetup with --debug and you will see that sync point.)

Sometimes it is hidden by the fact that libdevampper could fallback to
device internal nodes creation because it verifies that udev nodes were
created (the old way used when you compile it without udev support).

Just saying how upstream is designed to work.

[Bug 1787260] Re: efifb: cannot reserve video memory at 0xe0000000

2018-09-14 Thread Tom Reynolds
# cat /proc/version
Linux version 4.15.0-34-generic (buildd@lgw01-amd64-047) (gcc version 7.3.0
(Ubuntu 7.3.0-16ubuntu3)) #37-Ubuntu SMP Mon Aug 27 15:21:48 UTC 2018

# cat /proc/cmdline
BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-4.15.0-34-generic root=/dev/mapper/vg-slash ro

Before the BIOS upgrade, the same kernel version and cmdline still produced the
above error.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

[Bug 1792652] Re: 18.04.1 LTS undefined reference to `CRYPTO_get_lock_name'

2018-09-14 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1792652/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]
