[Bug 1793934] [NEW] Black Screen After A Few Minutes

2018-09-22 Thread jonas
Public bug reported:

I first encountered the issue on Kubuntu 18.04 when I removed my 2nd monitor,
the screen went black after 5-30 seconds. I tried:
- disconnecting the 1st instead of the 2nd monitor
- using Ubuntu 18.04 (not Kubuntu)
- using Wayland
- installing the latest mainline linux kernel 4.19rc4

The only things that worked so far are:
- Having both Monitors connected
- nomodeset or recovery mode
- using Ubuntu Gnome 16.04
- loggin via tty/terminal

When the PC was turned off for a while, I have to wait for a few minutes or
start lots of applications for the black screen to occur. If the PC was
restarted several times due to this bug, a blank screen may occur as soon as I
see the login screen.
The issue also occurs during installation when autodetecting the keyboard type
or after selecting the installation type (Minimal Installation or Normal
Installation etc.)

My Hardware:
- ASRock H87 Pro4
- Intel i5-4570
- AMD Radeon R9 390
- 1st Monitor connected via DisplayPort to HDMI adapter cable (or DVI-D)
- 2nd Monitor connected via DVI-D cable

I ran 18.04 off a USB (I did not install) and the applications mentioned
above looked fine. Just thought I would let you all know.

Squid already several contains such other formats. All they take is
configuration. The default one is intended for fast machine
interpretation, since that is the majority use-case for all Squid
installations.

Re: [Bug 1579580] Re: ureadahead reports relative path errors in journalctl output

2018-09-22 Thread Rich McAllister
Be aware the messages will come back next time you boot after
upgrading a package that touches something in /etc, which will trigger
another scan by ureadahead. Better is the workaround I gave back in
#9, but really what I recommend is just purge ureadahead. ureadahead
only ever can help the second (and subsequent) time one boots after
updating the system, and these days I never reboot unless I have
updated, since suspend works for desktops/laptops and who reboots
servers if you don't have to?

[Bug 1316402] Re: OpenGL ES 2 support

2018-09-22 Thread RJ Skerry-Ryan
I believe a fix for this is required for QML-based UIs, since I believe
the whole QML UI is rendered with an OpenGL ES 2-only context. Software
rendering will also do a number on your battery when a much more
efficient route is available :).

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1793920] [NEW] software-properties-gtk prompts me to install the nVidia proprietary drivers on a system using Xen, leading to no video on the next boot

2018-09-22 Thread Adam Novak
Public bug reported:

nVidia's proprietary drivers don't work when the kernel is running under
the Xen hypervisor; nVidia knows this and has chosen not to implement
Xen support. However, I did not know this.

On my Ubuntu Xen dom0 system, I went into Ubuntu's "Software & Updates",
on the "Additional Drivers" tab, and selected "Using NVIDIA driver
metapackage from nvidia-driver-390" as my GPU driver. The driver was
available, with no warning associated with it, and it seemed to install
correctly. However, upon rebooting, I had no video output. I had to mess
about in Grub to boot the system without Xen, and now I'm going to have
to uninstall the nVidia proprietary drivers.

The "Additional Drivers" UI should not present the option to install the
proprietary nVidia drivers if the system is running under Xen, because
doing so renders the system unusable in that configuration until the
drivers are removed.

[Bug 1736975] Re: netplan does not bring up anonymous bridge on boot

2018-09-22 Thread Lyas Spiehler
I am running the latest version of Ubuntu 18.04 as a KVM hypervisor with
multiple bridges. My bridges are down after reboot as described in this
bug. Enabling DHCP does make the bridge come up, but I only need layer 2
on the bridges and I don't want an IP. I'm assuming assigning an IP will
also work around the issue. On RHEL the config would be ONBOOT=YES. How
can I make this bridge come up at boot without assigning an IP address?

[Bug 1793899] Re: package samba 2:4.7.6+dfsg~ubuntu-0ubuntu2.2 failed to install/upgrade: installed samba package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2018-09-22 Thread Alex Murray
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1793901] Re: kernel oops in bcache module

2018-09-22 Thread step21
It seems that this might be only a problem with linux-image-4.15.0-34-generic
I tested it now with linux-image-4.15.0-34-generic and 4.18.0 (self compiled)
and in both cases the oops didn't trigger after a reasonable amount of time.
When checking the changelog for -34 it seems there was a change regarding
bcache: bcache: fix kcrashes with fio in RAID5 backend dev
Could this be related to that?

[Bug 1793918] Re: Setting to enable suspend on lid-close with external monitors attached

2018-09-22 Thread Cornelius
** Description changed:

With Ubuntu 18.04 my laptop does not suspend when lid is closed while
external monitors are attached. This might be a good behavior for many
users but I want to have my laptop suspend again when I close it.

Some time ago there was an option in gsettings scheme org.gnome
  .settings-daemon.plugins.power named lid-close-suspend-with-external-
  monitor (introduced in
  https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=657201). This settings seems
- to have no effect anymore and seems to be removed in the current scheme.
+ to have no effect anymore and seems to be removed in the current scheme
+ (repatched in ubuntu's version only).

This is realy anoying because at the moment the laptop does not suspend
at all with lid-close action because the nvidia driver discover the
internal built-in display under DP-4. That makes gnome think that there
is an external monitor connected. Is this a bug in nvidia driver or a
problem of gnome-desktop's gnome-rr which thinks that only monitors with
"LVDS|Lvds|LCD|eDP|DSI" in it's name could be an internal display?
However this might be another bug. I want to suspend with realy external
monitors attached anyhow because I always use my laptop as second/third
  monitor.
-
- As a realy bad workaround I now prevent gsd-power from beeing loaded at
- all by "chmod a-x /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-power". Of course
- this have some unwanted side effect but better to have no suspend on
- lid-close.

[Bug 1791367] Re: Airplane mode key on Asus ZenBook Flip UX561UD laptop not working in gnome-shell (X or Wayland) but working on console (Cosmic 18.10)

2018-09-22 Thread Mario Vukelic
>From the upstream report:

"A possible explanation would be that gnome-settings-daemon is not handling one
of the keys that it should be handling. And gnome-settings-daemon also disables
the kernels handling of the RFKill keys at the same time.
What you could do:

Check which key is emitted using "xev"
Check the low level key that is fired using "evemu-record" (you'll need to try
different input devices)

To be honest, the most likely explanation is that the following
xkeyboard-config bugfix has not been merged into ubuntu yet:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=100970, patch
https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/155965/ which should be in
2.24."

And:

"Just to make this clear. The above means that this is likely a downstream bug
in Ubuntu which needs to upgrade (or patch) xkeyboard-config.
i.e. if "XF86RFKill" is not mapped, then xkeyboard-config is outdated and the
symptoms you describe fit perfectly."

[Bug 1773859] Re: upgrades to 18.04 fail

2018-09-22 Thread Laurent Bigonville
Just upgraded today from 16.04 to 18.04 and I got the same issue.

The systemd-shim package was still installed, the only way I had to
uninstall it was to force remove systemd, then I was able to purge
systemd-shim and reinstall systemd

I made sure that xenial was up2date before starting the update (using
update-manager) to bionic

[Bug 1793918] [NEW] Setting to enable suspend on lid-close with external monitors attached

2018-09-22 Thread Cornelius
Public bug reported:

With Ubuntu 18.04 my laptop does not suspend when lid is closed while
external monitors are attached. This might be a good behavior for many
users but I want to have my laptop suspend again when I close it.

Some time ago there was an option in gsettings scheme org.gnome
.settings-daemon.plugins.power named lid-close-suspend-with-external-
monitor (introduced in
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=657201). This settings seems
to have no effect anymore and seems to be removed in the current scheme.

I want to suspend with realy external
monitors attached anyhow because I always use my laptop as second/third
monitor.

As a realy bad workaround I now prevent gsd-power from beeing loaded at
all by "chmod a-x /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-power". Of course
this have some unwanted side effect but better to have no suspend on
lid-close.

2018-09-22 Thread Mario Vukelic
In the upstream report for gnome-shell (https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME
/gnome-shell/issues/555) some analysis steps were kindly provided. It
seems that the actual cause is that gnome-settings-daemon's rfkill
plugin fails to turn on airplane mode. Following the instructions, I can
turn it on with the suggested test command:

gdbus call --session --dest org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.Rfkill \
   --object-path /org/gnome/SettingsDaemon/Rfkill \
   --method org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties.Set \
org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.Rfkill AirplaneMode ''

'' turns if off again.

I would definitely consider this a closed bug at this point, the pi3 b+ has
enough horsepower now between the hardware as well as software improvements
to run mixxx as expected on a stock pi3 b+ raspbian setup.

The current version of mixxx has been working fine for me on the pi3b+ to
the point where its completely stable and I see waveforms, CPU rendering
has been working since the latest version without any problems.

[Bug 1790994] Re: package grub-efi-amd64-signed 1.93.5+2.02-2ubuntu8.4 failed to install/upgrade: installed grub-efi-amd64-signed package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status

2018-09-22 Thread Ying
Update: I fixed my problem by updating the BIOS.

System: HP PAVILION 550-257NG

I was running BIOS version A0.13 and updated to version A0.20. After reboot, I
ran
sudo dpkg --configure -a

Setting up grub-efi-amd64-signed (1.93.5+2.02-2ubuntu8.4) ...
Installing for x86_64-efi platform.
Installation finished. No error reported.
Setting up shim-signed (1.34.9.2+13-0ubuntu2) ...
Installing for x86_64-efi platform.
Installation finished. No error reported.

Incidentally, for those on this particular (or similar) HP desktops, the BIOS
download executable can unfortunately only be run on Windows (due to the use of
an HP proprietary SoftPAQ download/extraction manager obscuring the BIOS .bin
file needed), so either use your Windows partition or use a different Windows
computer. After the "press any key to continue the SoftPAQ update process"
command prompt screen, do press any key -- don't worry, it won't flash your
other system, it would check the SSID and realize that you are not using the HP
computer, then offer the possibility to create a recovery USB for applying the
update to your system using the UFEI recovery options on boot.

HP-specific instructions:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-pavilion-550-200-desktop-pc-series/9259612/model/10683933/document/c7682

Refer to "Update the BIOS when Windows do not start" if you do not have a
Windows partition.
Step 6 in the instruction on creating a USB stick only appeared after I pressed
a key on the "continue the SoftPAQ update process" command prompt screen.

[Bug 1758918] Re: Ubuntu-Budgie: could not found /etc/profile.d/vte.sh

2018-09-22 Thread fossfreedom
Yeah - 1:0.28.2-5ubuntu4 should be the package version of libvte - so I
guess you must have installed a PPA with a later version. You should
have purged the PPA first before installing budgie

I've recently had the same problem of vertical black stripes on scans
from my Canon imageCLASS MF244DW under Ubuntu 18.04.1. Compiling and
installing sane-backends from https://github.com/kkaempf/sane-backends
solved the problem.

[Bug 1791658] Re: freeplane didn't show interface

2018-09-22 Thread Felix Natter
hi tonton,

it looks like the very old knopflerfish, freeplane's OSGi framework (for 1.3.x),
does not work with the new java10. Ŷou should do too things:

1. Install java9 or java11. Freeplane will not work with Java10
(see https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8202580)
In general you should not assume that java applications work with a Java version
they are not built for.

2. Use the upstream 1.6.x deb, which was updated for Java9 and contains all
dependencies:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/freeplane/files/freeplane%20stable/freeplane_1.6.15%7Eupstream-1_all.deb/download

Please report back to I can close this bug.

Cheers and Best Regards,
Felix

[Bug 1758918] Re: Ubuntu-Budgie: could not found /etc/profile.d/vte.sh

2018-09-22 Thread Brian Ealdwine
I've got an issue that may be the same or related, but is occurring on
install:

```
dpkg: error processing archive
/var/cache/apt/archives/budgie-desktop-common_0.9.9ubuntu1_all.deb (--unpack):
 trying to overwrite '/etc/profile.d/vte.sh', which is also in package
libvte-2.90-common 1:0.36.3-1ubuntu2
```

..does this provide the missing info needed to fix this bug, or is this
unrelated?
