[Bug 1793934] [NEW] Black Screen After A Few Minutes
Public bug reported: I first encountered the issue on Kubuntu 18.04 when I removed my 2nd monitor, the screen went black after 5-30 seconds. I tried: - disconnecting the 1st instead of the 2nd monitor - using Ubuntu 18.04 (not Kubuntu) - using Wayland - installing the latest mainline linux kernel 4.19rc4 The only things that worked so far are: - Having both Monitors connected - nomodeset or recovery mode - using Ubuntu Gnome 16.04 - loggin via tty/terminal When the PC was turned off for a while, I have to wait for a few minutes or start lots of applications for the black screen to occur. If the PC was restarted several times due to this bug, a blank screen may occur as soon as I see the login screen. The issue also occurs during installation when autodetecting the keyboard type or after selecting the installation type (Minimal Installation or Normal Installation etc.) My Hardware: - ASRock H87 Pro4 - Intel i5-4570 - AMD Radeon R9 390 - 1st Monitor connected via DisplayPort to HDMI adapter cable (or DVI-D) - 2nd Monitor connected via DVI-D cable ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: linux-image-4.15.0-29-generic 4.15.0-29.31 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-29.31-generic 4.15.18 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-29-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.2 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: ubuntu 2031 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC1: ubuntu 2031 F pulseaudio CasperVersion: 1.394 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Sun Sep 23 06:03:27 2018 LiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Release amd64 (20180725) MachineType: To Be Filled By O.E.M. Re: [Bug 1579580] Re: ureadahead reports relative path errors in journalctl output
Be aware the messages will come back next time you boot after upgrading a package that touches something in /etc, which will trigger another scan by ureadahead. Better is the workaround I gave back in #9, but really what I recommend is just purge ureadahead. ureadahead only ever can help the second (and subsequent) time one boots after updating the system, and these days I never reboot unless I have updated, since suspend works for desktops/laptops and who reboots servers if you don't have to? However, I did not know this. On my Ubuntu Xen dom0 system, I went into Ubuntu's "Software & Updates", on the "Additional Drivers" tab, and selected "Using NVIDIA driver metapackage from nvidia-driver-390" as my GPU driver. The driver was available, with no warning associated with it, and it seemed to install correctly. However, upon rebooting, I had no video output. I had to mess about in Grub to boot the system without Xen, and now I'm going to have to uninstall the nVidia proprietary drivers. The "Additional Drivers" UI should not present the option to install the proprietary nVidia drivers if the system is running under Xen, because doing so renders the system unusable in that configuration until the drivers are removed. [Bug 1736975] Re: netplan does not bring up anonymous bridge on boot
I am running the latest version of Ubuntu 18.04 as a KVM hypervisor with multiple bridges. My bridges are down after reboot as described in this bug. Enabling DHCP does make the bridge come up, but I only need layer 2 on the bridges and I don't want an IP. I'm assuming assigning an IP will also work around the issue. This is realy anoying because at the moment the laptop does not suspend at all with lid-close action because the nvidia driver discover the internal built-in display under DP-4. That makes gnome think that there is an external monitor connected. [Bug 1791367] Re: Airplane mode key on Asus ZenBook Flip UX561UD laptop not working in gnome-shell (X or Wayland) but working on console (Cosmic 18.10)
>From the upstream report: "A possible explanation would be that gnome-settings-daemon is not handling one of the keys that it should be handling. And gnome-settings-daemon also disables the kernels handling of the RFKill keys at the same time. What you could do: Check which key is emitted using "xev" Check the low level key that is fired using "evemu-record" (you'll need to try different input devices) To be honest, the most likely explanation is that the following xkeyboard-config bugfix has not been merged into ubuntu yet: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=100970, patch https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/155965/ which should be in 2.24." Re: [Bug 1316402] Re: OpenGL ES 2 support
I would definitely consider this a closed bug at this point, the pi3 b+ has enough horsepower now between the hardware as well as software improvements to run mixxx as expected on a stock pi3 b+ raspbian setup. Update: I fixed my problem by updating the BIOS. System: HP PAVILION 550-257NG I was running BIOS version A0.13 and updated to version A0.20. After reboot, I ran sudo dpkg --configure -a Setting up grub-efi-amd64-signed (1.93.5+2.02-2ubuntu8.4) ... Installing for x86_64-efi platform. Installation finished. No error reported. Setting up shim-signed (1.34.9.2+13-0ubuntu2) ... Installing for x86_64-efi platform. Installation finished. No error reported. Incidentally, for those on this particular (or similar) HP desktops, the BIOS download executable can unfortunately only be run on Windows (due to the use of an HP proprietary SoftPAQ download/extraction manager obscuring the BIOS .bin file needed), so either use your Windows partition or use a different Windows computer. After the "press any key to continue the SoftPAQ update process" command prompt screen, do press any key -- don't worry, it won't flash your other system, it would check the SSID and realize that you are not using the HP computer, then offer the possibility to create a recovery USB for applying the update to your system using the UFEI recovery options on boot.
