Install Ubuntu + 2. Check touchpad works or not + 3. Install the fixed kmod package + 4. Confirm touchpad works + + [Regression Potential] + i2c-i801 was blacklisted due to bug 16602. The user complains an HP Compaq nc6000 notebook cannot suspend without blacklisting i2c-i801. While this is a way to workaround the suspend issue, the proper fix should be in linux kernel. Since nc6000 was a machine sold in 2004, it is too difficult to find someone to verify if it will regress due to this SRU. The rationale to blacklist it is: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hotplug/+bug/16602/comments/5, however it is no longer valid nowadays on modern computers. + + Besides, there look like to be a quirk in linux kernel that fixes it: + https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blame/master/drivers/pci/quirks.c#L1434 + + [Other Info] + rationale of i2c_i801 driver blacklist: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kmod/+question/269329 + + --- + Original bug report: + We have a Lenovo Thinkpad machine that requires i2c-i801 kernel module to work, but it is listed in /etc/modprobe/blacklist.conf in Ubuntu. To use the touchpad, users have to remove the i2c-i801 line manually. i2c-i801 in blacklist.conf is a very old workaround to fix HP compaq nc6000 (Bug #16602), this module should be removed from blacklist. [Bug 1795943] Re: package libcc1-0 8-20180414-1ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: dpkg-deb --fsys-tarfile subprocess returned error exit status 2
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal: sudo apt-get clean Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a memory test. Thanks in advance! [Bug 1796013] Re: Video processing on GPU with Wayland drops too many frames
Firefox and Chrome/Chromium use software video decoding by default. They might also have "hardware acceleration" options for you to try, but to the best of my knowledge they don't do properly efficient hardware decoding. So this is a bug (two bugs) in the web browsers. For a proper future solution see: https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/c/chromium/src/+/532294 For a simple workaround that works today, see: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IntelQuickSyncVideo#YouTube Another issue you will find is that Gnome Shell (especially Wayland sessions) stutters and drops frames more than it should. And this problem will be visible in your videos too. I have a list of causes for that: https://trello.com/c/Q6JYXPPs Many people report better performance using Xorg sessions, for now. ** Summary changed: - Video processing on GPU with Wayland drops too many frames + Video playback in Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox with Wayland drops too many frames -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1796013 Title: Video playback in Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox with Wayland drops too many frames To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/1796013/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1795764] Re: systemd: core: Fix edge case when processing /proc/self/mountinfo
We cannot cherrypick the fix as is. It has been introduced upstream[1] inside a function and structure that not yet exist in 229[1]. Instead of backporting the whole thing (which seems unnecessary) we can possibly mimic the upstream fix. Basically, the upstream fix adds a "|| MOUNT(u)->just_mounted;" where just_mounted is a boolean. A boolean only has two possible values ("true" and "false"). Definition of "just_mounted" : # src/core/mount.h bool just_mounted:1; Full upstream code line : flags->just_mounted = !MOUNT(u)->from_proc_self_mountinfo || MOUNT(u)->just_mounted; The current 229 (xenial code) is as follow : MOUNT(u)->just_mounted = !MOUNT(u)->from_proc_self_mountinfo; Considering the boolean explain above, If we add "|| true;" it should suffice. Full systemd xenial code line (theory): MOUNT(u)->just_mounted = !MOUNT(u)->from_proc_self_mountinfo || true ; A colleague of mine and myself have separately tested my theory in my PPA that I have built, and so far it seems to work fine : $ mount --bind bind-test bind-test $ mount -t tmpfs tmpfs bind-test/abc $ umount bind-test/abc $ systemctl list-unites --all | grep bind-test home-ubuntu-bind/x2dtest.mount loaded active mounted /home/ubuntu/bind-test Could you please give the test package a try to make sure you arrive at the same result as us ? $ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:slashd/case199975 $ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install systemd Please allow a few hours for the package to build again. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Changed in: binutils (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1795853 Title: Assembler crashes when building ndiswrapper To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/binutils/+bug/1795853/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1776271] Re: Could not prepare Boot variable: No space left on device (package shim-signed 1.34.9+13-0ubuntu2 [origin: Ubuntu] failed to install/upgrade: Unterprozess installed shim-signed packag
It was a new version. If you are able to reflash the same version, it may work, it doesn't seem to be related to a specific firmware version from what I can tell, I think something in the process of flashing the firmware enables the boot device to be updated properly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1776271 Title: Could not prepare Boot variable: No space left on device (package shim-signed 1.34.9+13-0ubuntu2 [origin: Ubuntu] failed to install/upgrade: Unterprozess installed shim-signed package post- installation script gab den Fehler-Ausgangsstatus 1 zurück) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shim-signed/+bug/1776271/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
