[Bug 1798259] [NEW] Inconsistent behaviour when resizing details window

2018-10-16 Thread Laurent B.

When resizing the details window during software download (not during

of software being downloaded only resizes horizontally leaving an empty
space below the list.

It should obviously resize both ways.

[Bug 1798251] Re: Cannot boot from USB pen drive

2018-10-16 Thread John Bester
I just tried booting the USB drive of ubuntu-18.04-desktop-amd64.iso on
a different workstation. The drive was picked up for the boot menu and
the grub boot menu was displayed. I selected "Try Ubuntu without
installing" and it seemed to start booting (flash screen appeared). Then
after a while it dropped down to BusyBox. The message it gave might be
of some help: "(initramfs) Unable to find medium containing a live file
system". I then switched off the PC and booted again. This time I
selected "Install Ubuntu" from the grub boot menu, but it dropped down
to BusyBox again with the same message. If there is any way I can get
more information from BusyBox, please let me know.

[Bug 1798256] [NEW] Extension incompatible with Thunderbird 60

2018-10-16 Thread Janne Blomqvist
Public bug reported:

Firefox has dropped support for XUL extensions a while ago (as of FF
57?), and thus this package hasn't been useful for firefox for quite a
while.

See also Debian bugreport: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=906860

Now with the release of Thunderbird 60, xul-ext-mozvoikko no longer
works for thunderbird either. Thus the package should be updated or
removed from the archive.

[Bug 1798251] [NEW] Cannot boot from USB pen drive

2018-10-16 Thread John Bester
Public bug reported:

I have not been able to successfully create a bootable USB flash drive
for about two years using modern desktop versions of Ubuntu. This
weekend I tried again by booting from an Ubuntu Desktop 18.04 amd64
workstation and using ubuntu-18.04-desktop-amd64.iso. The qemu test run
seemed to boot, but after a while the boot splash screen just remained
open. The PC I intended to do a clean install on simply dropped down to
BusyBox. I tried various BIOS settings such as booting from UEFI,
booting from legacy etc with no success. In the past I got different
results on different workstations, but never got a USB stick booting (I
forgot which version of Ubuntu this started becoming an issue, because I
have created USB boot disks for older versions of Ubuntu many times). I
have tried UNetbootin, MultiWriter, usb-creator-gtk and even tried Rufus
on a Windows VM on KVM. None of the options worked (actually, UNetbootin
did not even start up correctly). Up to now the workstations I built up
had DVD drives, so I simply made a bootable CD - which has never let me
down. However this last workstation did not have a DVD drive so in the
end I booted Ubuntu 16.04 which it had installed on a different drive
and used grml-rescueboot to boot the ISO and perform the installation.
If you google "Ubuntu does not boot from usb" you will find that it
seems there this is an existing issue for many people. I would seriously
consider having a standard USB image with grml preinstalled and allowing
users to put whichever ISO they want to boot in a specific folder on the
USB drive. There are a number of web sites explaining how to create a
USB drive which is bootable in both UEFI and Legacy modes, and since
Windows 10 ships on a single USB pen drive it should be totally possible
to have a solution for Linux as well.

[Bug 1797860] Re: Language selection installs too many packages

2018-10-16 Thread Didier Roche
When you are telling that you select French, or English, and so, all
dialects should be installed for them, why do we have that separation in
different packages though? Shouldn't we only have one "English",
"French", … package?

I don't understand the difference between:
$ locale -a | grep ^fr
fr_BE.utf8
fr_CA.utf8
fr_CH.utf8
fr_FR.utf8
fr_LU.utf8

and the script outputting only fr/fr_FR/fr_CA. There is no translation
available in /usr/share/locale for fr_BE for instance? How this does differ
fr_BE, from fr_FR, as it's the same currency, time format and no specific
string (as no separate langpack) and so on? It seems that a little bit later in
the comment, you reach to the same conclusion.
I really think that if we decide to always ship all variants (as the script
requires right now), it should be one single package: easier maintenance, list
and logic.

On 1.: on the contrary, if we go to install all dialects selecting a
given language, I would rather packs them all in a single (well, single
as "per type", keeping dict, libreoffice and such separated) package.
As we require them to be installed on the system anyway, this doesn't
make any difference for the user, but ease our side.

1.5: we can debug that later on, but it seems we want to have "fr" anyway as we
have "en", correct? Or we want people to specifically select, like fr_BE (to
have the specifics for this locale), but still install all langpaks without
having "fr" listed.
So my question in that case would be: what is "en", then? People would rather
select a specific one, like en_US to have $ as currency and a weird date
format, rather than en_GB, which would use £ and anotter date format :)

2. -> agreed, we can work towards that. I don't understand though why we
would have "en" and "en_US", but not "fr", and "fr_FR" as told in my
previous paragraph.

3. Hum, I still don't understand the "if we decide to split the english
langpacks", they are already splitted. The original issue which triggered that
discussion is that on a fresh install, check-language-support complains about
missing:
"hunspell-en-au hunspell-en-ca hunspell-en-gb hunspell-en-za hyphen-en-ca
hyphen-en-gb libreoffice-help-en-gb libreoffice-l10n-en-gb
libreoffice-l10n-en-za mythes-en-au thunderbird-locale-en-gb"

(I'm not only talking about the main langpacks, but for everything we
split in langpacks: dictionaries, libreoffice, main applications…)

it's small & I know name), then clicking install - it sits awhile then
  software closes.

after software closes, error/warning-type-windows appear saying

"Invalid problem report - No such file or directory"

I re-loaded [gnome-]software from terminal & the output is as follows
(same results on screen, search leafpad, select it then click install -
  software closes/abends..)

Yep, it's dropped here:
https://salsa.debian.org/debian/libpam-mount/commit/3bd650364d64199256e7c7ffe89bba061d5578c1
I dropped the pkg-config file for now, we can create an extra -dev package if
someone needs it.

[Bug 1798165] Re: Vulkan applications cause permanent memory leak with Intel GPU

2018-10-16 Thread Leonardo Müller
This kernel has the bug fixed. After one hour open, a game using DXVK
did not allocate any memory it couldn't free when closed. It would leak
around 600 MB in the same time previously.

+
+ running in a container with a user namespace, if you call getxattr with name
= "system.posix_acl_access" and size % 8 != 4, then getxattr silently skips the
user namespace fixup that it normally does resulting in un-fixed-up data being
returned.
+
+ This is caused by posix_acl_fix_xattr_to_user() being passed the total buffer
size and not the actual size of the xattr as returned by vfs_getxattr().
+
+ This issue can be triggered by running the getxattr05 test in
+ ubuntu_ltp_syscalls test suite.
+
+ == Fix ==
+ 82c9a927bc5d ("getxattr: use correct xattr length")
+
+ A test kernel could be found here:
+
+ == Regression Potential ==
+ Low, this fix just passes the actual length of the xattr as returned by
vfs_getxattr() down.

+ == Test Case ==
+ Run the getxattr05 test in ubuntu_ltp_syscalls test suite.

[Bug 1798236] Re: xubuntu 18.10 daily (x86 live) - software cannot install leafpad

2018-10-16 Thread Chris Guiver
** Description changed:

using the live earlier today I had this issue, I re-zsync'd cosmic daily

[Bug 1797518] Re: System freezes after suspend

2018-10-16 Thread Marcel Beerli
Next freeze happened.
I woke system up, logged in and started Thunderbird. Thunderbird was not open
yet but froze. Funny thing is that it seemed to ru in the background, because
when I get a new msg, it will play a wave file and it played it.

Maybe something in the syslog file?

[Bug 1798236] [NEW] xubuntu 18.10 daily (x86 live) - software cannot install leafpad

2018-10-16 Thread Chris Guiver
Public bug reported:

using the live earlier today I had this issue, I re-zsync'd cosmic daily
& re-wrote to thumb-drive, then re-tested - same issue.

load "software' at main menu; search for leafpad (chosen only because
it's small & I know name), then clicking install - it sits awhile then
software closes.

after software closes, error/warning-type-windows appear saying

"Invalid problem report - No such file or directory"

I re-loaded [gnome-]software from terminal & the output is as follows
(same results on screen, search leafpad, select it then click install -
software closes/abends..)

xubuntu@xubuntu:~$ gnome-software

02:33:47:0263 Gs enabled plugins: desktop-categories, fwupd, os-release,

[Bug 1518408] Re: Interrupt audio on bluetooth headset when wifi is on

2018-10-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The "main" Bluetooth skipping problem was fixed a few months ago in Ubuntu
18.04 here:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/1:11.1-1ubuntu7.1

That fixed the main bug in PulseAudio but there may remain some driver-
specific bugs in the kernel like this one...

Are you using 18.04 or later?

[Bug 1795506] Re: gnome-software crashed with SIGSEGV in gs_progress_button_set_progress()

2018-10-16 Thread Robert Ancell
This was fixed in 3.30.1 with the following commit:

commit 1123fc250b70406b0bac7df48454bcf8a7fccb98
Author: Kalev Lember
Date: Sun Sep 23 19:11:13 2018 +0200

updates section: Fix a crash during automatic updates

When self->list is cleared, a bunch of variables pointing to items
constructed in _build_section_header() become invalid. Make sure that we
set those to NULL when self->list is cleared so that we can avoid using
dangling pointers in callbacks.

[Bug 1797945] Re: Lightning incompatible with Thunderbird 60.2.1

2018-10-16 Thread yoyoma2 via ubuntu-bugs
I'm lucky enough to use english so installing xul-ext-lightning from the
ubuntu software center worked as post #12 calls the "correct" solution.
I did however have to remove the old lightning addon using the
thunderbird add-ons menu to get the new xul-ext-lightning one to show
up. Luckily the lightning tasks and events were preserved.

@Scott, thanks a lot for your investigation.
The /var/lib/cloud/instance is a directory in Ubuntu18.04.1 and Ubuntu18.10
daily build, while it is a symbolic link in Ubuntu18.04 GA, could this be a
regression bug for Ubuntu release? Or for some reason, it was changed from

Mathieu,

Hmm, same source file osdWindow.js but different lines of code 223-224.
And the callers are the same as this bug. So it sounds like the same bug
in 18.10 but the line of code has moved.

Please verify that you do not have any gnome-shell extensions installed?

[Bug 1798215] Re: No idea

2018-10-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 1789918] Re: grub2 signed kernel enforcement doesn't check on upgrade that signatures are from trusted keys

2018-10-16 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
mokutil now allows exporting the various keys, we'll still need to
integrate this with grub to check for what signs the kernels (and check
for blacklists)

[Bug 1798176] Re: Lu Next 18.10 doesn't revive from suspend with keystroke or mouse click

2018-10-16 Thread Fritz Hudnut
Also, over here, right it was supposed to be at least an open "ubuntu"
bug . . . lost in LP. Right after I filed this bug I ran an
update/upgrade and that seems to have revived the key stroke revival
from suspend. I'll monitor it a bit and if it has been resolved I'll
try to take this bug down or report it as "solved" . . . .
