Yes, I have tried both mac and grub. Admittedly, I have blessed my refind installation and from their used refind to load grub. (My preferred method, given the number of boot options refind can handle). I haven't tried using the macOs bootloader to boot into linux directly. On booting into Mac OS, The Mach kernel does not get hang trying to get the sd card working, however, a cold boot into ANYTHING still requires a 20-30 second delay. There is apparently a grub update. [Bug 1800950] [NEW] Options in /etc/default/cups can be ignored
Public bug reported: If the file `/etc/default/cups` does not exist, or it contains `LOAD_LP_MODULE=yes`, then *cups-filters* creates the file `/etc/modules-load.d/cups-filters.conf` with the contents: ``` # Parallel printer driver modules loading for cups # LOAD_LP_MODULE was 'yes' in /etc/default/cups lp ppdev parport_pc ``` However, if the file `/etc/default/cups` contains `LOAD_LP_MODULE=no` and *cups-filters* has already created the file `/etc/modules-load.d /cups-filters.conf`, then the previous behavior equivalent to `LOAD_LP_MODULE=yes` will persist even after completely reinstalling the *cups-filters* package. The only solution is to manually remove the file `/etc/modules-load.d /cups-filters.conf`. I think the proper behavior would be for *cups- filters* to remove the file if it exists during installation but `/etc/default/cups` contains `LOAD_LP_MODULE=no`. ** Affects: cups-filters (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1800950 Title: Options in /etc/default/cups can be ignored To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups-filters/+bug/1800950/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1800952] [NEW] Kubuntu 18.04: Konqueror won't show man/info pages
Public bug reported: Per the KDE docs at https://docs.kde.org/stable5/en/applications/konqueror/man-info.html, https://docs.kde.org/stable5/en/kdenetwork/kioslave5/man/index.html and https://docs.kde.org/stable5/en/kdenetwork/kioslave5/info/index.html, I should be able to read GNU-Linux man and info pages from within Konqueror. Unfortunately, that feature no longer works in Kubuntu 18.04 (it has worked through 16.04). If I enter man:/ or info: in Konqueror, I only get a blank page while the little icon to the right of the search field in the toolbar spins endlessly. Since the KDE docs say I should be able to open those pages in Kwrite, I decided to give it a try. I clicked the "open" button and entered man:/ls in the "name" field of the subsequent window. It did, indeed open the ls(1) man page, but it appeared as raw html. As I read https://docs.kde.org/stable5/en/kdenetwork/kioslave5/man/index.html, that is the expected behavior although it does make it much less readable than viewing in Konqueror where the html/css formatting is applied to look more like a real manpage. Curiously, the man kio-slave starts to work in Konqueror. If I enter man: in the address field of the Konqueror toolbar, it show manpage sections from man(0) through man(9) to man(l) (lower case L,, not a 1), including sections for POSIX variations. If I enter man:/(1)/, it shows all of the manpages in section one, albeit in an order which is definitely NOT alphabetical. Unfortunately, selecting one of those choices results in the blank page and a spinning icon. While reading man and ifo pages from within Konqueror is only one of the reasons I prefer the KDE desktop, it one of the more important reasons for me. $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS Release:18.04 $ apt-cache policy konqueror konqueror: Installed: 4:17.12.3-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 4:17.12.3-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 4:17.12.3-0ubuntu1 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status If you need more info, please let me know. [Bug 1718720] Re: Sensors plugin settings lost and can't be set in 17.10
Maybe I was confused. I was just setting up xfce4-sensors-plugin 1.3.0-2 Ubuntu 18.10 and noticed something. When I double-click on the plugin it opens "Sensors Viewer". If I want to reconfigure the plugin I need to right click on it and select "Properties". This opens "Sensors Plugin". The confusing thing is that "Sensors Viewer" looks a lot like "Sensors Plugin" configuration. It even has "Show" checkboxes for the various temperatures, which makes it seem as if toggling those checkboxes should have some effect on the plugin. If I use the correct dialog for configuring the plugin, then I am able to reconfigure it and the configuration is saved properly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1718720 Title: Sensors plugin settings lost and can't be set in 17.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-sensors-plugin/+bug/1718720/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1799988] Re: Missing wifi and bluetooth after sleep on XPS 9370
I've had some intermittent Wi-Fi issues after upgrading to 18.10. I started with the 16.04 installed from Dell, then did the upgrade to 18.04 and then 18.10. Since going to 18.10 (which comes with the new Gnome Shell) I've had issues with WiFi basically become unresponsive after periods of time. I can try and disable WiFi but even the Gnome Shell controls for it get confused on the status of the device. I'm currently running with the Bluetooth disabled in the bios in order to see if it resolves the WiFi issues. So far it's kept me up and running longer than I've previously seen so it might be something to do with the drivers for the included wireless card that runs both the bluetooth and wifi (I believe) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1799988 Title: Missing wifi and bluetooth after sleep on XPS 9370 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/dell-sputnik/+bug/1799988/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1799767] Re: grub menu not showing with SecureBoot enabled after update
apport information ** Description changed: Started with Ubuntu Version 14.04 I always had SecureBoot enabled and also CSM (compatibility support module) enabled in BIOS of Motherboard ASUS Z170-A, BIOS 3802 03/15/2018. On October, 13th i did the updates that UpdateManager showed in the morning. After rebooting in the evening, afterwards the BIOS splash screen there was only a black screen. No grub menu, no booting in SecureBoot mode. I tried different repairs (tool boot-repair, reinstalling grub, installing signed kernel transitional packages and so on, but nothing would help. At the end I found out out, that switching CSM to disabled "solved" the problem and it is now reproducible: Switching CSM on, no secure boot, switching off, secure boot works. But I did not wont to switch CSM off. I also tried to get some help at ubuntuforum. But no luck. See here https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2404150 Since today I think it's a bug in shim or grub, because at the morning of Oct, 13th these have been updated. [Bug 1800924] [NEW] Ubuntu Software - can't reach home page
Public bug reported: this happens reliably on my Ubuntu 18.10. repro: - open Ubuntu Software, the user is prompted with the "home" page (featured apps, categories, editor's picks and so on) - select any application, eg. Slack (no need to install it) - close the Ubuntu Software window - re-open Ubuntu Software, the Slack page is displayed the issue is that the user is now "stuck" on the Slack page since there is no easy way to get back to the home page (see screenshot): - click on the "back" button (top left corner), nothing happens - there is no link/command/menu to the home page - there is no search button the only workaround I'm aware of is: - hit the search shortcut - search for a random string - finally the All/Installed/Updates menu is displayed, so the user can click on "All" to get back to the home page ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.10 Package: ubuntu-software 3.30.2-0ubuntu7 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.18.0-10.11-generic 4.18.12 Uname: Linux 4.18.0-10-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_modeset nvidia wl ApportVersion: 2.20.10-0ubuntu13 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Wed Oct 31 21:55:09 2018 InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-10-19 (11 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 18.10 "Cosmic Cuttlefish" - Release amd64 (20181017.3) InstalledPlugins: gnome-software-plugin-flatpak N/A gnome-software-plugin-limba N/A gnome-software-plugin-snap3.30.2-0ubuntu7 PackageArchitecture: all SourcePackage: gnome-software UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: gnome-software (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug cosmic ** Attachment added: "the user is stuck on this screen" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1800924/+attachment/5207643/+files/Screenshot%20from%202018-10-31%2022-14-00.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1800924 Title: Ubuntu Software - can't reach home page To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-software/+bug/1800924/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1781128] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla
--- Comment From ca...@us.ibm.com 2018-10-31 17:07 EDT--- Will: I don't seem to have an old Valgrind tree around that used the svn revision control to examine. But according to my notes, the functional fix was committed in svn revision 395709 on June 21, 2018. The functional fix adds the support for the instruction to Valgrind and the support for the instruction to the functional test test_isa_2_06_part3.c to the test suite. However, the expected result file changes didn't get included in that commit. It looks like Valgrind switched to the Git repository right after that. I see the expected results for the test case were committed in the git repository as: commit 1f69ed86e994ee152a0e6e3ee7031d0105f02a7e Author: Carl Love Date: Mon Jun 25 16:24:14 2018 -0500 Fix ppc32 results for test_isa_2_06_part3.c. The ppc32 results were not updated when the xvnegsp instruction support was added. Add the xvnegsp 32-bit results to ppc/test_isa_2_06_part3.stdout.exp. So, all of the functional Valgrind and test case changes went in on the first commit. Hopefully that clears up your question? [Bug 1723350] Re: sssd offline on boot, stays offline forever
I can confirm the same issue with Ubuntu 18.04 (used the DVD). SSSD cannot resolve the the backend and then says it's offline. Restarting SSSD after a reboot always resolves the issue. I've found two workarounds in 18.04: 1) Use your own resolv.conf and not rely on systemd-resolved.service. "unlink /etc/resolv.conf" and then create your own resolv.conf that doesn't rely on systemd-resolved. 2) Make SSSD start after systemd-resolved.service. I prefer this method because setting up the nameservers is still automatic (in case they change). cp -p /lib/systemd/system/sssd.service /etc/systemd/system/ sed -i 's/Wants.*$/Wants &\nAfter=systemd-resolved.service/g' /etc/systemd/system/sssd.service Hope this helps someone. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1723350 Title: sssd offline on boot, stays offline forever To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sssd/+bug/1723350/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1799184] Re: [18.04 FEAT] zcrypt DD: introduce APQN tags to support deterministic driver binding
** Description changed: == SRU Justification == APQN tags in the zcrypt device driver are required to support deterministic driver binding With the introduction of KVM hw crypto virtualization (on s390x) the driver bound to an AP queue device is no longer unique determined. Therefore a deterministic hot plugging semantics of AP queues that may be bound to multiple drivers is needed. With the three listed commits here it will be possible to configure an AP queue (APQN) as being bound to a particular driver even if the associate hw gets intermittently lost and reconnected. - == Fix == + == Fixes == ac2b96f351d7d222 ("s390/zcrypt: code beautify") 7e0bdbe5c21cb831 ("s390/zcrypt: AP bus support for alternate driver(s)") 3d8f60d38e249f98 ("s390/zcrypt: hex string mask improvements for apmask and aqmask") - == Patch == + == Patches == Git-commit: ac2b96f351d7d222 https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/ac2b96f351d7d222c46e524feca03005f3fa8d75 Author: Harald Freudenberger Date: Fri Aug 17 12:36:01 2018 +0200 s390/zcrypt: code beautify Code beautify by following most of the checkpatch suggestions: - - SPDX license identifier line complains by checkpatch - - missing space or newline complains by checkpatch - - octal numbers for permssions complains by checkpatch - - renaming of static sysfs functions complains by checkpatch - - fix of block comment complains by checkpatch - - fix printf like calls where function name instead of %s __func__ -was used - - __packed instead of __attribute__((packed)) - - init to zero for static variables removed - - use of DEVICE_ATTR_RO and DEVICE_ATTR_RW macros + - SPDX license identifier line complains by checkpatch + - missing space or newline complains by checkpatch + - octal numbers for permssions complains by checkpatch + - renaming of static sysfs functions complains by checkpatch + - fix of block comment complains by checkpatch + - fix printf like calls where function name instead of %s __func__ + was used + - __packed instead of __attribute__((packed)) + - init to zero for static variables removed + - use of DEVICE_ATTR_RO and DEVICE_ATTR_RW macros No functional code changes or API changes! So for example a CEX6C queue will always be bound to the cex4queue device driver. The Linux Device Driver model has no sensitivity for more than one device driver eligible for one device type. If there exist more than one drivers matching to the device type, simple all drivers are tried consecutively. There is no way to determine and influence the probing order of the drivers. With KVM there is a need to provide additional device drivers matching to the very same type of AP devices. With a simple implementation the KVM drivers run in competition to the regular drivers. Whichever 'wins' a device depends on build order and implementation details within the common Linux Device Driver Model and is not deterministic. However, a userspace process could figure out which device should be bound to which driver and sort out the correct binding by manipulating attributes in the sysfs. If for security reasons a AP device must not get bound to the 'wrong' device driver the sorting out has to be done within the Linux kernel by the AP bus code. This patch modifies the behavior of the AP bus for probing drivers for devices in a way that two sets of drivers are usable. Two new bitmasks 'apmask' and 'aqmask' are used to mark a subset of the APQN range for 'usable by the ap bus and the default drivers' or 'not usable by the default drivers and thus available for alternate drivers like vfio-xxx'. So an APQN which is addressed by this masking only the default drivers will be probed. In contrary an APQN which is not addressed by the masks will never be probed and bound to default drivers but onny to alternate drivers. Eventually the two masks give a way to divide the range of APQNs into two pools: one pool of APQNs used by the AP bus and the default drivers and thus via zcrypt drivers available to the userspace of the system. And another pool where no zcrypt drivers are bound to and which can be used by alternate drivers (like vfio-xxx) for their needs. This division is hot-plug save and makes sure a APQN assigned to an alternate driver is at no time somehow exploitable by the wrong party. The two masks are located in sysfs at /sys/bus/ap/apmask and

Thanks for the detailed explanation, James. I'll raise my concerns with oath-toolkit to the ceph security team. Hopefully we can find a solution before 20.04 LTS. Security team ACK on promoting liboath0 to main. I'd really like to keep the other binary packages in universe. I know this is a hassle. But I don't think we want this PAM module installed by accident.
