[Bug 1803078] [NEW] Screensaver unlock screen shown twice after playing video
Public bug reported: Observed behaviour: resuming from screensaver, after unlocking the screen with a password, the desktop is shown briefly and is immediately locked again, but with a different look-and-feel lock screen. Entering the password once more will finally show the desktop. This started happening seemingly sporadically, and would continue to happen consistently until end of session (logout or shutdown). Digging further, it was found that a `gnome-screensaver` process was running in addition to the normal `cinnamon-screensaver`. It was a child process of `systemd --user`, so a `ps -o pid, comm, cgroup` found that it was running as part of `dbus.service`. Finally, the culprit was found in the journal for that unit (`dbus.service`): Nov 12 15:03:40 laptop dbus-daemon[1696]: [session uid=1000 pid=1696] Activating service name='org.gnome.ScreenSaver' requested by ':1.206' (uid=1000 pid=3445 comm="/usr/bin/totem --gapplication-service " label="unconfined") So, the workaround (which I am quite happy with, frankly) is to use VLC instead of Totem. ☺ ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: cinnamon-session 3.6.1-1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-38.41-generic 4.15.18 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-38-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.4 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: X-Cinnamon Date: Tue Nov 13 08:56:37 2018 InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-10-31 (12 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Release amd64 (20180725) SourcePackage: cinnamon-session UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: cinnamon-session (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug bionic -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1803078 Title: Screensaver unlock screen shown twice after playing video To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cinnamon-session/+bug/1803078/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1788235] Re: lirc broken on 18.04
> While I am sure LIRC has a lot of uses. I would wager 90% of its users are using kodi. This might be the truth as seen from the kodi community. However, from an upstream lirc point of view I cannot really see that the number of kodi users are dominating in any way. > forgot a couple steps, here was all of them: While these steps worked for you, other users will have other needs. That said, disabling/stopping lircd-uinput might be a good idea in many cases. The last update to lirc has it disabled by default. > also some discussion here: https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=324727 That discussion is utterly confused and does not mention the need to migrate (manual or automatic) the old 0.9.0 setup to the new one. Also, some users in that thread are using the default driver while other seem to be using the devinput one. No one seems to be reading the documentation, but still seems to be able to establish the "fact" that lirc is broken. If it was possible to file a bug against the Kodi community overall I would consider doing that ;) On top of that Kodi is the one and only application which misuses lirc by using the raw events from the socket -- this makes lirc seriously crippled compared to the real stuff. I filed a bug on this long ago, but at a glance it seems to be lost. [Bug 1789356] Re: Dark purple (noise) background flashes up briefly during the login animation since Yaru was introduced
I don't have the time to do a testround again, but I can give pointers for whoever has time to have a look: The patch is https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-desktop/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/commit/?id=ddc4f511abd64d69c1150a41475d0a1ebac01dbb, in particular: systemBackground = new Meta. Background({ meta_display: global.display }); [res, topColor] = Clutter.Color.from_string('#6D2169'); [res, bottomColor] = Clutter.Color.from_string('#370026'); systemBackground.set_gradient(GDesktopEnums.BackgroundShading.VERTICAL, topColor, bottomColor); This is hardcoded in the Shell code (I made it conditional by session type). This was made to match what is in the Yaru.css file: #lockDialogGroup { background: none; background-color: none; background-gradient-direction: vertical; background-gradient-start: #6D2169; background-gradient-end: #370026; } As I don't have bionic/cosmic eyes as yours, for me, for the short while this screen appeared, ti seemed the same gradient, with the same VERTICAL transition. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1789356 Title: Dark purple (noise) background flashes up briefly during the login animation since Yaru was introduced To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1789356/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi, I had the same bug since summer 2018. But for me, the following fixed the problem: The bug was caused by a "no space left on device error" on the "efi firmware". There was a hint in the apt log. So a colleague of mine (https://launchpad.net/~aburch) gave me the tip to delete dump files in /sys/firmware/efi/efivars There where hundred of files starting with "dump" and I removed only these! Hi dementor, I just wanted to reply so you know this has been seen. What do you switch to it - a guest config switching from a former network to use that? Or a network definition to use virbr0. Since it is a UI thing a screenshot or video often helps to disambiguize. [Bug 1764314] Re: libvirt doesn't show all interfaces
As we demoted netcf and it doesn't work we can drop the further netcf tasks in Ubuntu in Won't Fix. It is not that important to Ubuntu to have it working as discussed before it would a) pull in ifupdown and suggest it is well supported (which it is no more). [Bug 1788235] Re: lirc broken on 18.04
While I am sure LIRC has a lot of uses. I would wager 90% of its users are using kodi. At times it can be difficult to find a good howoto guide, that walks you through a freshly installed ubuntu system, to a working LIRC remote. I am very happy to have mine working again. I forgot a couple steps, here was all of them: sudo apt purge ir-keytable lirc sudo apt-get install -y lirc lirc-compat-remotes sudo dpkg-reconfigure lirc sudo irw sudo systemctl stop lircd-uinput.service sudo systemctl disable lircd-uinput.service also some discussion here: https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=324727 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1788235 Title: lirc broken on 18.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lirc/+bug/1788235/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Since the Vulkan packages are in a mature state and with future GTK and Qt development looking to adapt Vulkan, it would be important to have the Vulkan packages available. This change will affect game developers the most as they will know that Vulkan will be available to them for future development. There has been a lot of movement in Mesa 13.3 and above with the RADV driver where it has matched and exceeded the non-free alternatives. It is essential to get improved Vulkan support for GNU/Linux in general as we have finally had a great alternative to OpenGL. If possible, the movement of mesa-vulkan-drivers out of Universe as well would be a HUGE benefit. Especially if mesa-vulkan-drivers is installed by default in Ubuntu 18.04 bringing in full support for Vulkan. [Bug 1173759] Re: Ubuntu 13.04 can detect wi-fi but can't connect
Wi-Fi association issues are very baffling. In case you're having issues associating your Android cell phone to a Wi-Fi organize, you're not the only one. This is a typical issue that, lamentably, plenty of clients encounter every now and then. [Bug 1776616] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 getting stuck at "Starting Reboot" and "Starting Power-Off"
Just upgraded an old Toshiba Satellite A215-S7422 with AMD Turion X2 from 16.04 to 18.04. Was working fine under 16.04. Now I'm encountering this same issue. I don't use this laptop very much, so I can run tests on it. I'm running the Ubuntu Mate flavor. The current kernel it is running is 4.15.0-38-generic. Would it make any sense for me to try 4.5.7-yakkety, since I'm already well past that? [Bug 1799785] Re: Upgrade to 18.04 fails because tcsh has changed location
Before the upgrade, my shell spec in /etc/passwd was /usr/bin/tcsh But after the upgrade, the tcsh binary was moved to /bin/tcsh and my login was failing because binary couldn't be found. Only after I used another account to login and changed my shell spec in /etc/passwd to /bin/tcsh I could login to the console. However, when I further investigate the login failure upon your prompt, I found a sym-link /usr/bin/tcsh -> /bin/tcsh created several minutes before I changed the /etc/passwd file. It seems to be create by Ubuntu's upgrade postscript. So I'm puzzled why I couldn't log in with this sym-link in place. With that question in mind I try to reproduce the bug. I use a VM to repeat the upgrade from Ubuntu 16 to 18 with the account using /usr/bin/tcsh. But the upgrade is successful without any intervention. I also observe the sym-link /usr/bin/tcsh -> /bin/tcsh created by the upgrader. Because I can't reproduce the bug, I'll withdraw it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1799785 Title: Upgrade to 18.04 fails because tcsh has changed location To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/1799785/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1802957] Re: package python3-pyqt5 (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: dpkg-deb --fsys-tarfile subprocess returned error exit status 2
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal: sudo apt-get clean Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a memory test. Thanks in advance! [Bug 1801889] Re: evolution-ews does still on 3.28.1 instead of 3.28.5 in bionic
We can do this update but I don't have access to an EWS account so I'm reliant on someone else to test the new version. Would you be willing to do the required testing? It basically will involve enabling -proposed updates, installing the update, and then disable -proposed updates again. For this package, I recommend restarting your computer or at least logging out and logging back in. Then make sure that things still work. If you can verify any of the bugs fixed mentioned in the NEWS file, that's useful too. ** Tags added: bionic ** Tags added: upgrade-software-version -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1801889 Title: evolution-ews does still on 3.28.1 instead of 3.28.5 in bionic To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution-ews/+bug/1801889/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1803032] [NEW] LibreOffice crashes kernel while trying to open 500+ new windows.
Public bug reported: I am trying to combine 500+ .tiff files into a single .pdf file. I read that LibreOffice could do this. I started LibreOffice and selected the .tiff files. LibreOffice immediately tried to open 500+ new windows. I tried to close LibreOffice but got an error window warning that LibreOffice is not responding. When I selected kill any way, nothing happened. Eventually the entire screen went black - the kernel had crashed. Had to reboot my machine. Still need to convert many tiff files to a single pdf file (preferably without using ghostscript like tiff2pdf).
