[Bug 1810012] [NEW] support for 32 bit GL recording on 64 bit systems

Public bug reported:

The 32 bit version of libssr-glinject.so cannot be installed along with

in a multilib directory so you can install the 32 bit version too.

I have the same issue with Asus Z87-Pro motherboard. Running a newer

Command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
Output:

I believe 2103 is the latest BIOS for this motherboard.

[Bug 1798790] Re: Ubuntu login screen never appears when using the Nvidia driver (and setting WaylandEnable=false fixes it)

2018-12-28 Thread BavarianPH
Wayland is not fully functional or compatible with Ubuntu 18.10 yet.
So why use wayland in a full new distribution, and cause problems?
It wasted 8 hours of my time to find the solution.
Just because of 1 line in a gdm3 conf file.
1 wrong line in a config line, and Ubuntu fails.
Ubuntu needs essential conf and system protection, so that 1 little change
cannot derail the entire
OS, or deleting or installing cannot remove essential files necessary to run
the OS.
After this many years Ubuntu is still incredibly easy to break.
Essential, necessary configs and system files that run the basic OS should be
read only!

[Bug 727074] Re: setting Edge Trigger Delay is ineffective on Desktop Wall Edge Flipping

2018-12-28 Thread Micha
Why is this still noit fixed?!??

Why does it take so long to fix such a stuff in Linux...its so frustrating!
Does noone here test software before a release? Dumb question, I know as its
obviously...however, to be a bit productive:

@johann-glaser This has nothing to do with the "wall"-plugin...the wall-
plugin is inactive here on Mint Mate, so it cant have any effect to edit
the wall.xml as read somewhere before. "rotate" is a different plugin.

There are 2 options in my opinion:

Some of the coders here have to add an "edge_flip_delay" to the plugin
"(cube)rotate", or
option 2 - some of the coders here have to make "edge_flip" in "rotate" to work
with "edge_delay" in general-settings.

Please please please fix this, guys!!! Soon please.

This problem exists since 2011

[Bug 1810009] [NEW] cannot install texlive fonts in 18.04

2018-12-28 Thread pen name
Public bug reported:

I installed from scratch lubuntu 18.04.1 on my 32-bit netbook
(previously running lubuntu 16.04). The installation went well and I was
able to reboot the machines and installed other (non-tex-related)
softwares. But when I tried to install texlive-latex I got massive
errors. Eventually I tracked down the problem to a single package,
fonts-lmodern. I used synaptic to purge all texlive related packages and
then installed fonts-lmodern to isolate this one error message:

W: Failed to fetch
http://ftp.utexas.edu/ubuntu/pool/main/l/lmodern/fonts-lmodern_2.004.5-3_all.deb
  Connection failed [IP: 146.6.15.16 80]

I posted this question in the "answers" sections of launchpad and
eventually got help resolving this problem:

  https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/texlive-
extra/+question/677188

Solution: edit /etc/apt/source.list by replacing all the http by https

Note: (1) I ran into this problem with multiple texlive fonts; fonts-
lmodern just happened to be the first one synaptic complained about.

(2) These fonts packages (over 40 of them) are installed as part of
texlive-latex-base; until I edited source.list as described above I was
not able to install latex. Presumably that is an important tool for
many people (certainly for me) so I report the bug (?) here, even though
the answer section already resolves the issue.

(3) I ran into this same issue in linux mint 19.1 xfce on a 64bit
laptop. Mint's has a different repo setup and I have not yet figured
out how to fix this. I also know that launchpad is not responsible for
mint. I mention this solely to point out that (I believe) this is not a
"32 bit issue".

THANKS!

[Bug 1809996] Re: PXE network boot fails when 1 NIC is disabled

2018-12-28 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1809996/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1809996] [NEW] PXE network boot fails when 1 NIC is disabled

2018-12-28 Thread Greg Glockner
Public bug reported:

We use MAAS 2.3.5 to install Ubuntu to a cluster of computers, where
each computer boots via PXE. Each computer has 2 NICs. If you disable
one of the NICs, then when you boot the computer with Bionic (18.04),
immediately after it loads the Ramdisk (boot-initrd), the computer
immediately reboots. This continues in a loop. This seems like a
regression from 16.04.

Here are the steps to reproduce:

1. Add new computer as MAAS node
2. Commission the node in MAAS
3. In MAAS, go to Interfaces, select the unused NIC and select Remove Physical
4. Deploy the node using 18.04

Note that once you remove the unused NIC, you can reproduce this both in
MAAS Commission and MAAS Deployment. My guess is that when the init
script runs from the ramdisk, it tries to load the unused NIC and it
fails. unfortunately, the minimal PXE install (kernel + ramdisk) does
not print diagnostic info.

Here are the steps to resolve this:

1. Commission the broken node using 16.04
2. Ensure both NICs are present under MAAS Interfaces
3. Deploy the node using 18.04

[Bug 1809994] [NEW] netplan reparses wifi when bridge member is listed before definition

% cat /etc/netplan/50-cloud-init.yaml
# This file is generated from information provided by
# the datasource. Changes to it will not persist across an instance.
# To disable cloud-init's network configuration capabilities, write a file
# /etc/cloud/cloud.cfg.d/99-disable-network-config.cfg with the following:
# network: {config: disabled}
network:
bridges:
mybridge:
interfaces: [enp5s0]
dhcp4: true
ethernets:
enp5s0:
dhcp4: no
wifis:
wlp6s0:
dhcp4: true
optional: true
access-points:
"mywifi":
password: "mypass"
version: 2

Note, if I move the ethernet definition of enp5s0 before the bridge,
netplan can parse it.

This appears to be related to parse.c:add_missing_node() which tags it
is missing a definition and then reparses. This then attempts to parse
wifis a second time and runs into a condition check that's meant to
prevent duplicate SSIDs.

[Bug 1809993] [NEW] Lenovo X1C6 trackpad functions broken

2018-12-28 Thread Joshua Powers
Public bug reported:

Summary:
After kernel update the trackpad advanced functions, like two finger scrolling
and mouse acceleration have stopped working.

Expected Result:
Two finer scroll works and the mouse has acceleration features work

Actual Result:
Two finer scroll works and the mouse has acceleration features do not work

1. Lenovo X1C6 (LENOVO 20KHCTO1WW/20KHCTO1WW, BIOS N23ET59W (1.34 ) 11/08/2018)
2. Install 18.04 LTS
3. config-4.15.0-42-generic acceleration works, while config-4.15.0-43-generic
does not

This appears to be some sort of regression or change in behavior between kernel
versions.

[Bug 1809989] [NEW] deluser does not clean up systemd files

2018-12-28 Thread Edward Gow
Public bug reported:

In
Description:Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS
Release:16.04

using
adduser package Version: 3.113+nmu3ubuntu4
systemd package Version: 229-4ubuntu21.10

deluser will not clean up data in /run/user/ directory. If a user is
created then under many circumstances, such as systemd enable-linger being
called for the user, data for that user will exist in /run/user/. Running
deluser for such as user will remove the user, home directory, etc. but not the
/run/user data.

** Most importantly **, the next user creation will be given the open
uid formerly held by the deleted user. The new user can then have broken
systemd sessions so that the systemctl --user command will always fail
with the error

Failed to connect to bus: No such file or directory

A system reboot seems to be the only thing that will reliably clean up
the cruft in /run/user/

Expected behavior would be that if a user is successfully removed then
there should be no directory remaining for that user's uid under
/run/user.

** Affects: adduser (Ubuntu)

 Status: New

[Bug 1798961] Re: Random unrecoverable freezes on Ubuntu 18.10

2018-12-28 Thread KH
I am running Kubuntu 18.10 w kernel 4.18.0-11-generic with AMD Ryzen
2700x CPU, I initially believed I had a Ryzen soft lockup issue, and I
had posted in AMD community forums:

https://community.amd.com/thread/225795#

But I later realized the AMD soft lockup issue is one that required
motherboard reset button to get out off. My issue is usually not so bad,
most of the time, SSH and network and VIRTUAL MACHINES inside my server
will still work. I could use the following command vis SSH to get back
alive:

#sudo systemctl restart sddm

I am now inclined to suspect a Linux Kernel scheduler had caused some of
my threads frozen, and X.org console frozen - mouse and keyboard stuck.

The latest discover on/right-after X'mas 2018 was that all CPUs logical
& physical cores will still be running as seen in ksysguard graphs and
top command, while some threads typically my late night crontab backup
jobs, HANG FOR HOURS randomly and after hours, RESUME THEMSELVES. The
backup was apparently all done - but up to after 12hours of delays!

I had also seen frozen X.org screen later refreshed a little after
45mins, but I could not wait further so I SSH a sddm restart as
mentioned above.

I copy my post dated Dec.27.2018 on AMD community forum below:

Dear All,

Today my new discovery indicated that we may be heading wrong direction
with regards to CPU core voltage and power states. It has got to be
something else.

265px-Ksysguard1.png

I use the famous linux top command and ksysguard (above imgs) and I sort
of AMBUSH the problem awaited to solidly catch a process that frozen.

And my chance came today. I caught my Virtual Machines Backup crontab
jobs frozen at the vmware's vmrun suspend command. Info:

https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Fusion/11/com.vmware.fusion.using.doc
/GUID-24F54E24-EFB0-4E94-8A07-2AD791F0E497.html

My cron jobs put each virtual machines into suspend mode and backup into
a harddisk. I got a clue few days ago when I check through my backups,
their folder date time stamps suggested that the usual backup jobs which
should all be done within 30 mins normally, had on 2 occasions took
several hours! There was nothing else wrong beside the long time spent
at late night to backup, the data seem quite completely backed up. That
means, the lockup or freeze could unfreeze themselves and proceeded to a
long delayed completion.

So I ssh into this Ryzen machine at my crontab job hour today, forwarded
X and ran ksysguard and top at remote desktop. Yes the cron job frozen
and backup was not happening. I also used the linux ps -aux | grep
crontab & similar commands, it was confirm that crontab was hanging
awaiting for vmrun to suspend the vm, and this command just frozen. It
fronzen for almost 2 hours! & later it completed it after this long
delay. And my script went ahead further to backup another virtual
machine, and after backing up, it is suppose to do vmrun resume but
agian, the resume frozen up and took more than 1 hour. After this even
my ssh -X session died. I can not reconnect again.

During these hours, I had the top command and ksysguard showing me that
other processes and thread were running, ALL my 16 logical (8 physical)
CPUs were RUNNING! None of the CPU cores were frozen up in C6 or any
other power states, while the thread hang for hours. Because of
Hyperthreading, each 2 logical CPUs are from 1 single physical CPU core,
and if any core locked up in power state during these hours of lockup,
the graphs of 2 logical CPUs must die for each physical CPU to freeze in
deep sleep state. If 2 physical cores locked up, than graphs of 2
logical CPUs must die (ZERO % usage).

I am very sure of my observations. It was repeated twice during my
AMBUSH mission today. I am very sure of how my scripts work, and how
vmrun works, this similar setup and script had worked for more than 10
years, and used on older AMD and Intel machines. This Ryzen is a recent
replacement for the retired old server.

I am now not inclined to believe that CPU cores were frozen in deep
sleep power states, nor it was Typical Current Idle issue. Not for my
Ryzen machine anyway. It has to be something else, RANDOMLY LOCKING UP,
and RANDOMLY UNLOCKED THEMSELVES, Affecting process / thread that also
appear to be random. I checked the PIDs of these locked up jobs, top
said they were in idle state.

While it was locked I went into various /proc folders and files to sniff
for clues, did not get anything too useful except to see that they were
idle

/proc/[PID]/status

/proc/[PID]/task/[PID]/status

My favorite soft reset systemctl restart sddm had worked many times
nearly without fail because I think it flushed out and killed the
hanging threads, this command killed X and everything else running on X,
which will be quite a big number, and it restarted KDE desktop manager.

I am hoping to get a further breakthrough to find out what caused the
thread to LOCK-UP & UNLOCK themselves.

Cheers.

feedback from upstream:

Hello,

We have had some bugs reported recently at our BTS:
