gnome-screenshot is also affected if started with -c flag or in interactive
mode if you press the copy to clipboard button then close the app before
pasting.
At first I thought it was something related to gtk_clipboard_set_image, but
this problem doesn't happen when running
/usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-clipboard instead of xfsettingsd.

I looked through the gnome clipboard and xfce source. Unsure which one
of the two is the fork, but they obviously share the same codebase. I
suggest the changes from gnome-settings-daemon get picked into the
xfsettingsd clipboardmanager.

[Bug 1784485] Re: [ZenBook S UX391UA, Realtek ALC294, Mic, Internal] No sound at all

2018-12-29 Thread Ben
The UX391UA fix is not in 4.20 as it was already a release candidate.
To get sound working on this model you'll need to download the 4.20
source, apply the patch to sound/pci/hda/patch_realtek.c then compile
and install the kernel.

is this reproducible? the most common cause of this is a slow
compositor/X server busy with rendering. libinput does timer setups
based on event timestamps from the kernel and relies on the caller to
keep calling libinput_dispatch() often enough, if that isn't the case
then a 150ms timer may be set for an event from 500ms ago - resulting in
an offset of -350ms from the current time.

Unless you can reproduce this reliably with a specific interaction there
is not much we can do here.

[Bug 1810070] [NEW] 18.04.1 Live CD fails to boot with EFI errors

2018-12-29 Thread Shepherd King
Public bug reported:

System Information:
Fujitsu T901, 16GB Ram, i5-2520M CPU
(laptop manufactured 2011)
Laptop does not support UEFI

The MD5 sums were verified for the live cd image.

The laptop is currently dual booted with Windows 10, Ubuntu 16.04 with
separate hard drives. The live cd (a live USB) was intended to be used

The error message at boot is:

The laptop was verified to be BIOS-only. Under Windows 10,

[Bug 1685794] Re: Boot delayed for about 90 seconds until 'random: crng init done'

2018-12-29 Thread Andrew
Ive had this problem numerous times, and my solution works in all
situations.

When running dsmeg, the error shows up as:

[CODE]
[6.382044] random: crng init done

The solution is to:

First compare your fstab and blkid:

PARTLABEL="Swap" PARTUUID="fefe3061-bf7b-4a26-8c20-08e209acc28e"

$ sudo nano /etc/fstab

# /etc/fstab: static file system information
#
# Created by make-fstab on Mon Nov 19 17:10:30 EST 2018

#
 <$

#-> /dev/sda6  label=rootMX17
UUID=7bae9e4d-61fa-4187-b11f-517c799f7c94  /
   ext4 d$
#-> /dev/sda1
UUID=C0C0-7641 /boot/efi

#-> /dev/sda7
UUID=42e5a9cd-b6e1-4d57-9a3a-2ad910862579  swap
   swap d$[/CODE]

As you can see my swap at /dev/sda7 has a different UUID in fstab than it does
in blkid. This was, in my case, caused by another linux install repartitoning
the swap
and causing the UUID to change. The boot delay is caused by the system trying
to find the new UUID of the swap. To fix it, just copy the UUID in blkid that
doesnt match to the fstab file then save.

If after restart the boot error is still there, you need to
additionally edit your initramfs.conf file.

Do this by:

$ sudo nano  /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume

Then either by making a new file, or editing the current resume file, write on
the first line
RESUME=UUID=<< UUID of swap>>

For example, mine looks like

RESUME=UUID=d9539219-1c29-468f-bbd0-106663fdef59

Then run the below command to update your initramfs file.

sudo update-initramfs -u

Then restart. The error will be gone

[Bug 1810064] Re: UI hangs When booting Live version of Ubuntu 18.04

2018-12-29 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1810064/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 901622] Re: Resume after pm-suspend with read-only ext4 root file system on USB disk (ext4 journal commit I/O error) )

2018-12-29 Thread Donovan
Same issue as everyone else. I have my system(/home and the likes) on
the SD Card and /boot on the internal SSD. I have my OS installed this
way is because my Laptop BIOS doesn't allow booting directly from SD
Card(perhaps because internally the SD Reader is connected via the PCI
bus) This way the laptop boots to the regular destination(Internal SSD)
then GRUB loads and then I can select my desired OS, then GRUB will find
the Kernel(/boot) and then handoff to the SD Card. This all works as
expected with the only problem being that my system will not suspend no
matter how I try. I see a flashing cursor on screen while trying to
resume from suspend and then I will get read-only errors. The only way
to get past this is to do a full reboot. Most of the time requiring a
full fsck to fix the orphaned inodes, etc. So what is the advisable
solution? Is the problem the fact that my SD Card reader is on the PCI
bus and therefore is having trouble with the hotplug driver? Could a
plausible solution be to disallow the system from unmounting my SD Card?
I mean after all this SD Card while *removable* isn't actually going to
be removed during operation of the system, much less while in hibernate.
As far as I can tell the system unmounts all sd cards so as to prevent
data loss, assuming that it can be removed during suspend, and that is
all fine as the majority of people benefit from this decision however
how do I disable this feature? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[Bug 1673258] Re: Remove aptdaemon and drop or port its reverse-dependencies

2018-12-29 Thread Logan Rosen
** Description changed:

aptdaemon is abandoned and unmaintained. It has already been dropped
from Debian, but there are several reverse dependencies keeping it in
Ubuntu. I will add bug tasks for each of those dependencies, which
should be ported or dropped themselves. Then we can get rid of
  aptdaemon too.

[Bug 1810066] [NEW] Sync slof 20180702+dfsg-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2018-12-29 Thread Logan Rosen
Public bug reported:

Please sync slof 20180702+dfsg-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * Fix boot with more than 16 disks (LP: #1734856)
- d/p/0001-boot-do-not-concatenate-bootdev.patch
- d/p/0002-boot-use-a-temporary-bootdev-buf.patch
These patches were incorporated in the upstream snapshot that was packaged in
Debian:
- https://github.com/aik/SLOF/commit/80f74b855f2f67ae5ed45b0d32c57dce46585da7

Changelog entries since current disco version 20170724+dfsg-1ubuntu1:

slof (20180702+dfsg-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream snapshot for the QEMU 3.x.x releases.
  * Switch Vcs-* fields to salsa.
  * Drop debian/source/options, xz is now the default.
  * Build verbosely.
  * Bump debhelper compat 10. This requires to undefine CFLAGS and LDFLAGS
as the default flags are not usable to build a firmware.

[Bug 1776616] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 getting stuck at "Starting Reboot" and "Starting Power-Off"

2018-12-29 Thread expos
Hi, I updated my Maxdata Belinea o.book 2.1 with AMD Processor (AMD Turion(tm)
64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-60) from Kubuntu 14.04 to Mint Xfce 19 (reinstall).
Same issue here. Then I tried Mint 18.3 which is built upon Ubuntu 16.04, again
the same issue. I installed upstream kernel 4.20.0-042000-generic - problem
persists.
When I read the previous comments, it's always an aging AMD processor
involved...

Here's probably a workaround described (again with AMD Turion TL-60 processor):
https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/suggestions-and-feedback/possible-kernel-problems-with-ubuntu-18-04-and-latest-kernel/msg41538/#msg41538

Unfortunately I cannot test it as I don't see the option to disable AMD
Power Now in my BIOS.

[Bug 1767817] Re: Full text search does not work

2018-12-29 Thread sojusnik
Even after installing Nautilus 3.30 from the staging Gnome PPA
(https://launchpad.net/~gnome3-team/+archive/ubuntu/gnome3-staging?field.series_filter=cosmic),
the full text search isn't working in Nautilus, but does in the terminal
(tracker search xyz).

Ubuntu devs, please have a look on that. Such an essential feature can't
have a "low" priority on a modern OS.

[Bug 1710931] Re: Ctrl+N shortcut does not work when desktop has focus

2018-12-29 Thread Marc Nijdam
One correction from the previous posting: it is not gnome but "nautilus-
desktop" which handles the keyboard shortcut for ctrl-n. If nautilus-
desktop is not running, then the shortcut will not have any effect.

Hi, I just experienced this today, the only thing that was not usual was
that I left my Bluetooth Headphones which were previously used on and
the notebook fell asleep. Maybe this is a coincidence, but it happened
to me in this exact combination and only once since ever.

[Bug 1810057] [NEW] joysticks do not work with chromium-bsu

2018-12-29 Thread Adam Gundy
Public bug reported:

I tried playing chromium-bsu with a joystick - it is simply ignored.

a quick look at the source shows that the joystick handling code is
hidden behind a define: WITH_JOYSTICK

if I rebuild the package with that define set, it works perfectly.

[Bug 1792843] Re: GDM lock screen will not accept credentials and then loses keyboard?

2018-12-29 Thread nomike
I have almost the same issue.
Using gdm3, when I lock my session (e.g. with +) the lock screen
doesn't accept keyboard and mouse events at all.

This all began right after the upgrade from bionic to cosmic.

Another thing which might be related as it only happens when I use gdm3:
When I open the activities view, it never goes away. This means: I see the
launcher on the left, my desktop wallpaper overlayed with transparent black
(for this dimm-effect) and this stays for ever.
I can search for application, run programs either from the launcher or by
searching for them or e.g. by pressing registered key combinations. The
program-icons apear in the launcher as they should, but I don't see any actual
program images as it appears they are all hidden beneath the activities
background.

When using sddm or lightdm I don't have this issues (though I have
others).

Software: Ubuntu cosmic amd64 with latest updates.
X-Session: Gnome on Xorg
Hardware: Lenovo Thinkpad x230

[Bug 1726075] Re: [HP Pavilion Power Laptop 15-cb0xx, Realtek ALC295, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2018-12-29 Thread M I
Same issue, HP Pavilion 15-cc178cl.

Tried:
- checking that speakers aren't muted in alsamixer & pavucontrol
- renaming /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
- model={generic,auto,hp} in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
- adding these lines to ~/.config/pulse/default.pa:
https://askubuntu.com/a/1068198 (this caused pulse to fail to start)
- remapping each output pin to "Internal Speakers" in hdajackretask

Have not tried:
- uninstalling and reinstalling alsa and pulse (this appears to want to
uninstall ubuntu-desktop--is that expected?)

[Bug 1810055] [NEW] Resume fails when suspending laptop with headphones plugged in

2018-12-29 Thread Steve Chadsey
Public bug reported:

This is Xubuntu 18.04.1, kernel 4.15.0-43-generic on a Dell Latitude
5580.

I've found that if I have headphones plugged in when I suspend the
system (either by closing the laptop lid, or by using Whisker menu >
Power button > Suspend), then the system does not resume properly. It
appears that a full boot occurs: Dell logo appears, followed by the Grub
menu, and after selecting the boot option and booting, I get a new login
session instead of my suspended one.

I tried some combinations of booting, suspending and resuming with the
headphones attached or detached. The 'yes'/'no' indicates whether the
headphones were plugged in when I performed the operation. 'ok'
indicates that the resume succeeded: after authenticating to
xscreensaver, my previous session was resumed.

Boot: no Suspend: no Resume: noResult: ok
Boot: no Suspend: no Resume: yes Result: ok
Boot: no Suspend: yesResume: noResult: fail
Boot: no Suspend: yesResume: yes Result: fail

Boot: yes Suspend: noResume: noResult: ok
Boot: yes Suspend: noResume: yes Result: ok
Boot: yes Suspend: yes Resume: noResult: fail
Boot: yes Suspend: yes Resume: yes Result: fail

(Note: for each case, the suspend was done via Whisker menu > Power
button > Suspend)

The common factor for failure is suspending when the headphones are
plugged in.

[Bug 1810052] [NEW] Grub install fails during Dual Boot Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Install with Win10Pro

2018-12-29 Thread Tres Equis
Public bug reported:

Original: Fujitsu LIFEBOOK E782 with Windows 10 Pro; one SDD, no further
HDD

First installation of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS one week ago alongside Win 10 worked
fine.
Booting the Desktop-CD from USB (with no needed UEFI setting changes) worked
fine, partitioning with gparted and installation on Desktop-CD finished
normally.
During booting always GRUB screen to choose between Ubuntu and Windows. -->
Perfect.

BUT After first use of Windows 10: No GRUB menu anymore, but always direct
start into Windows.
Reason!?: Fast boot was not deactivated. Deactivation did not solve the
problem. (And in UEFI menu no secure boot options available that could be
deactivated. And if these would be the reason, Ubuntu should not have worked
before!?)

When entering boot options on startup and choosing Ubuntu (which is
still at first boot position) nothing happens. Obviously second boot
option "Windows" is always entered because first boot option "Ubuntu"
fails.

BUT why is a priorly fully-working Ubuntu not usable anymore after one
Windows start with first activated but meanwhile deactivated fast boot
option?

My try: New install of Ubuntu in the same way like initially done - with the
Ubuntu-Desktop from USB.
BUT NOW: During installation GRUB cannot be installed anymore - tried two times
now.
During installation I left the boot loader installation location to default
/dev/sda, although precisely the Windows bootloader is at /dev/sda2 because I
read multiply times that in EFI mode this is detected automatically.
Detailed system info will hopefully be in the automatic debug information with
the report.

Thanks for any help,
best regards!

[Bug 1809940] Re: ASPEED AST2400 graphics failure on normal start but work on recovery start

2018-12-29 Thread Filip Roland
** Description changed:

I have an ASUS P10S-I server motherboard with integrated ASPEED AST2400 VGA
chipset.
With earlier Ubuntu version (maybe on Ubuntu 16.04.3 ?) it worked well.
Once when I updated (but before the actual version) it went wrong.

To be truth it not really the xresver...-ast's problem because this
earlier not installed automatically and the poroblem was the same. When
- i fond it on synaptic as uninstalled i hoped this will solv the problem
- and i had installed it but it not worked at all...
+ i found it on synaptic as uninstalled i hoped that this will solve the
+ problem and i had installed it but it not worked at all...

  The issue:
When I boot normally the login window load slowly and keybord and mouse very
slow too but work.
I can login. But after i login the screen not show the desktop it show
diagonal stripes. (see the attachment)
This stripes made from original screen but unrecognisable the things. But the
items work if you can click the right places. (for example i can click on the
main switch button if i have luck and Crl+Alt+Del log out me.)
After i log out the login screen corrupted on the same diagonal stripe way.
But also work I can re login.

  How it work:
If I start the recovery mode and on the recovery window choose continue start
normally (and nothing else needed) it works without problem. Evrithing is fine.

I tried to indtal ASPEED driver but on the Softwares and Updates menu
  Another driver don't found it.

[Bug 1769383] Re: Ubuntu dock/launcher is shown on the lock screen

2018-12-29 Thread Dom Hudson
I can confirm that I also see the following side effects*:

- Lockscreen shortcut (meta + L) requires two attempts to register.
- Activities button requires two attempts to register.
- Icons in dock resize by a few pixels when you put your cursor over them.
- Additional icons no longer appear in the dock (for applications which are not
already in the favourites).

* These only present themselves after I have logged out, confirmed that
the dock is displaying on the lock screen and then logged back in.

[Bug 1726856] Re: ufw does not start automatically at boot

2018-12-29 Thread Henrik Sjöstrand
Hi,

I can confirm this bug still exists on Ubuntu 18.04 and in my case none
of the above solutions have been successful.

The following workaround has solved it for me:

Edit /etc/crontab and add the following line:
@reboot rootufw enable

It has worked every time on 5 reboots I have done to test.

[Bug 1808418] Re: Thinkpad T430u won't boot without noapic workaround

2018-12-29 Thread bmaupin
I tried to boot with an older kernel (4.15.0-43), and it wouldn't boot
without noapic. But v4.20-rc7 seems to boot fine. I guess it must've
been a fluke that it didn't boot for me the first time.

Should I still try to figure out which RC kernel the problem started?

[Bug 1809940] Re: ASPEED AST2400 graphics failure on normal start but work on recovery start

2018-12-29 Thread Filip Roland
** Description changed:

I have an ASUS P10S-I server motherboard with integrated ASPEED AST2400 VGA
chipset.
With earlier Ubuntu version (maybe on Ubuntu 16.04.3 ?) it worked well.
Once when I updated (but before the actual version) it went wrong.
+
+ To be truth it not really the xresver...-ast's problem because this
+ earlier not installed automatically and the poroblem was the same. When
+ i fond it on synaptic as uninstalled i hoped this will solv the problem
+ and i had installed it but it not worked at all...

[Bug 1798868] Re: Compiz Crashed with SIGSEGV [Radeon]

2018-12-29 Thread Liam McDonagh-Greaves
** Description changed:

+ SEE WORKAROUND AT END OF POST
+
  Symptoms:
On login, the desktop takes a long time to load, and when it does, everything
blinks. It is possible (but difficult) to open a terminal and execute commands,
through the right-click desktop menu.

I first noticed the issue in mid-July of 2018.

  System:
  Acer 5100
  Ubuntu 16.04 (64-bit)
Graphics card: VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
[AMD/ATI] RS482M [Mobility Radeon Xpress 200]

Believed to be mesa-related, as symptoms very similar to bug #1741447
and #1735594. I have been informed by a mesa developer that my issue is
different because that bug affects Intel GPUs. This system has a Radeon
  GPU.

Log files are as attached to bug #1795709. That bug was declared invalid
by Apport because it says I don't have the necessary debug packages
installed. However, I could not find the debug packages in the
repository, so that is why I am submitting this report manually.

  Many thanks for any help.
+
+ Edit 29/12/2018:
+ WORKAROUND
+ This bug is still present. However, I present a workaround. It is aimed at
relatively inexperienced users like me. It guides the user through
downgrading/rolling back affected packages to the most recent known working
versions.
+ 1. Navigate to /var/log/apt in a file explorer. Open the logs until you find
the offending mesa updates. In my case, the updates were installed on 15/07/18.
+ 2. Copy and paste the log into a text file on your desktop. Close the log.
+ 3. In the text file, do a ctrl+F search on "mesa" to highlight all instances
of mesa-related packages. Keep these lines and delete the others. Each line
should have this kind of format:
+ libgles2-mesa:amd64 (17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1, 18.0.5-0ubuntu0~16.04.1)
(exact package name/version numbers may differ). The first number in brackets
is the version of the package that you had before, the second number is the
version it was upgraded to. You should end up with a list of such lines.
+ 4. The earlier versions of these packages can be downloaded from Launchpad. I
don't know how to find them using links/searches, but the URLs look like this:
+
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/xenial/amd64/libgles2-mesa/17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1.
You will have to alter the url according to your architecture, package name
and package version required.
+ 5. You will see a page with a download link on the right-hand side for a .deb
file. Make a new folder on your desktop called "mesa-install" and download the
.deb file there.
+ 6. Scroll down, and on the left, you will see any dependencies of this
package. If any of them say " (=version number)" then you must
make a note of these packages on your list of packages to download and install.
If they have a ">=" sign, or no version number given, ignore them.
+ 7. Repeat steps 4 - 6 for all the packages on your list, placing the .deb
files in the "mesa-install" folder.
+ 8. MAKE SURE ALL IMPORTANT FILES ON YOUR SYSTEM ARE BACKED UP.
+ 9. Open a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T).
+ 10. Type "sudo dpkg -R --install /home//Desktop/mesa-install/
+ Replace " with your username. This command installs all .deb files
in that folder.
+ 11. Reboot PC.
+ 12. Log in to a Unity session. Rejoice in the fact that it now works
(hopefully). Assuming it is now working, you need to make sure that the
packages you downgraded are not subsequently upgraded automatically by Ubuntu.
Ignore any offers of automatic updates until you have completed all the steps.
+ 13. Open a terminal and type:
+ sudo apt-mark hold
+ where "" is the name of the first package you downgraded. Press
enter, enter password, etc. You should receive confirmation that the package
has been held.
+ 14. Repeat step 13 for all packages on your list.
+
+ Good luck to all others who have faced this problem, and fingers crossed
+ for a bug fix!

[Bug 1810039] Re: Volume noisy and loud with no level control [HDA Intel PCH / Realtek ALC295]

2018-12-29 Thread Jule Marcoueille
Do not know if it is a pulseaudio or a alsa-driver bug (cf.
https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/PulseAudio/Documentation/User/PulseAudioStoleMyVolumes/)
but I think it is both:
1/ ALSA driver may not report correct dB information.
2/ PulseAudio may not correctly mix PCM into Master since changing Master
volume does nothing at all.

As mentioned in that link, nth-child is not a solution, not due to lack
of support though. There's a reason to one uses it.

Adding CSS somewhere, even when you can, to style a single table by
column position (which can change as you author/update it), is
unmaintainable at best.

Examine tables in the wild. It's all cell-by-cell attributes, either by
CSS classes or alignment attributes. Think about how inefficient that
is. All because no one takes this bug seriously.

[Bug 875343] Re: Stuck at "Saving installed packages..." when using a custom /var

2018-12-29 Thread Marco Gamberoni via ubuntu-bugs
Installing from scratch Ubuntu 18.10, with a customised full disk encryption
partitioning scheme.
After setting up separate encrypted volumes with new filesystems for these
mountpoints:
   / /boot /home swap
I started
   ubiquity
and forgot -b so it completed fast but crashed at end (it is a known bug: on a
FDE setup -b is needed, grub must be installed after configuring
GRUB_ENABLE_CRYPTODISK=y in /etc/default/grub).
So, I restarted with the switch
   ubiquity -b
and met this "bug". Which isn't, at least in one, my, case. It's a "feature":
finding an existing installation, ubiquity uses dpkg-repack to save the
customisations and transport them to the new installation; this takes very long
time, enough to find and read the preceding 45 posts...
In case of a new installation, kill ubiquity and restart recreating empty
filesystems is quicker than waiting the repacking of the whole release.

OTOH, there seems to be also real bug described here: when /var is a
mountpoint.

Rethinking, there are 2 bugs. One is in front of the keyboard. Those who want
to keep the existing customised configuration should not reinstall, but should
should perform a
   do-release-upgrade
Catering for those who reinstall but want to keep previous settings is a bug, I
say.

[Bug 1810039] [NEW] Volume noisy and loud with no level control [HDA Intel PCH / Realtek ALC295]

2018-12-29 Thread Jule Marcoueille
Public bug reported:

What I expect:
When I use slider volume or when I use volume up button of my laptop, I expect
that the volume goes up slightly.

What happens:
>From the mute state, one press on volume up do graphically well but in reality
>the volume is loud and noisy from the first step. And all other up steps do
>not change the volume.
Doing this with `alsamixer` started show me what you can see in
volume-issue.gif attached file.
Indeed when I press volume up PCM volume is maxed to 100 instantly and then
Speaker volume and then Master volume.

In my case manually changing the PCM volume in `alsamixer` is the only
way to change the actual volume of my laptop. Even changing Master
volume has no effect!

[Bug 1810038] [NEW] Installer for 18.10 crashes at installing Grub2

2018-12-29 Thread sm8ps
Public bug reported:

Have been trying to install 18.10-budgie on an Acer Spin 111-C32 (EFI-system).
Having Grub2 installed in the PBR of the boot-partition makes the installer
crash. Translated error message: "grub-efi-adm64-signed could not be installed
into /target. Installed system will not boot without Grub-Bootloader."
When selecting to install Grub into the MBR of sda, it will simply hang
forever. I have been trying for hours now and am about to give up.

[Bug 484244] Re: Cannot choose ISO image when disc inserted in CD drive

2018-12-29 Thread Joe Linux
I have the problem of not being able to select an .iso with usb-creator
0.3.5 with Kubuntu 18.10. This is extremely frustrating.

You go the iso you want, try to select it, but nothing happens. I was
able to create one USB stick for Elementary OS, but with other
distributions I have no luck. I have no idea why one distribution can
be selected, but another cannot.

[Bug 1784485] Re: [ZenBook S UX391UA, Realtek ALC294, Mic, Internal] No sound at all

2018-12-29 Thread sojusnik
@VanVan

That's strange!

To be on the safe side, I even did a fresh Ubuntu 18.10 installation and
updated to the 4.20 kernel with UKUU, but I still don't have sound.
Neither from the internal, nor the external speakers. I've played around
with alsamixer in the terminal – without success.

Can somebody confirm that they got the sound running just by installing
the latest kernel (4.20) on the ASUS UX391UA (that's the model this
issues is actually about)?

[Bug 1798790] Re: Ubuntu login screen never appears when using the Nvidia driver (and setting WaylandEnable=false fixes it)

2018-12-29 Thread Diego Germán Gonzalez
This is not a problem of Wayland or Ubuntu but of Gnome and the Nvidia driver.
In fact Fedora 29 has the same problem, only it has to come out a month later
they deactivate the proprietary driver and force to use Noveau.
