This was, in my case, caused by another linux install repartitoning the swap and causing the UUID to change. The boot delay is caused by the system trying to find the new UUID of the swap. To fix it, just copy the UUID in blkid that doesnt match to the fstab file then save. If after restart the boot error is still there, you need to additionally edit your initramfs.conf file. Do this by: $ sudo nano /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume Then either by making a new file, or editing the current resume file, write on the first line RESUME=UUID=<< UUID of swap>> For example, mine looks like RESUME=UUID=d9539219-1c29-468f-bbd0-106663fdef59 Then run the below command to update your initramfs file. sudo update-initramfs -u Then restart. [Bug 1810064] Re: UI hangs When booting Live version of Ubuntu 18.04
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1810064/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 901622] Re: Resume after pm-suspend with read-only ext4 root file system on USB disk (ext4 journal commit I/O error) )
Same issue as everyone else. I have my system(/home and the likes) on the SD Card and /boot on the internal SSD. I have my OS installed this way is because my Laptop BIOS doesn't allow booting directly from SD Card(perhaps because internally the SD Reader is connected via the PCI bus) This way the laptop boots to the regular destination(Internal SSD) then GRUB loads and then I can select my desired OS, then GRUB will find the Kernel(/boot) and then handoff to the SD Card. This all works as expected with the only problem being that my system will not suspend no matter how I try. I see a flashing cursor on screen while trying to resume from suspend and then I will get read-only errors. The only way to get past this is to do a full reboot. Most of the time requiring a full fsck to fix the orphaned inodes, etc. So what is the advisable solution? Is the problem the fact that my SD Card reader is on the PCI bus and therefore is having trouble with the hotplug driver? Could a plausible solution be to disallow the system from unmounting my SD Card? I mean after all this SD Card while *removable* isn't actually going to be removed during operation of the system, much less while in hibernate. As far as I can tell the system unmounts all sd cards so as to prevent data loss, assuming that it can be removed during suspend, and that is all fine as the majority of people benefit from this decision however how do I disable this feature? Any help would be greatly appreciated. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/901622 Title: Resume after pm-suspend with read-only ext4 root file system on USB disk (ext4 journal commit I/O error) ) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pm-utils/+bug/901622/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Then I tried Mint 18.3 which is built upon Ubuntu 16.04, again the same issue. I installed upstream kernel 4.20.0-042000-generic - problem persists. When I read the previous comments, it's always an aging AMD processor involved... Here's probably a workaround described (again with AMD Turion TL-60 processor): https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/suggestions-and-feedback/possible-kernel-problems-with-ubuntu-18-04-and-latest-kernel/msg41538/#msg41538 Unfortunately I cannot test it as I don't see the option to disable AMD Power Now in my BIOS. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1776616 Title: Ubuntu 18.04 getting stuck at "Starting Reboot" and "Starting Power- Off" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1776616/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1792843] Re: GDM lock screen will not accept credentials and then loses keyboard?
I have almost the same issue. Using gdm3, when I lock my session (e.g. with +) the lock screen doesn't accept keyboard and mouse events at all. This all began right after the upgrade from bionic to cosmic. Another thing which might be related as it only happens when I use gdm3: When I open the activities view, it never goes away. This means: I see the launcher on the left, my desktop wallpaper overlayed with transparent black (for this dimm-effect) and this stays for ever. I can search for application, run programs either from the launcher or by searching for them or e.g. by pressing registered key combinations. The program-icons apear in the launcher as they should, but I don't see any actual program images as it appears they are all hidden beneath the activities background. [Bug 1810055] [NEW] Resume fails when suspending laptop with headphones plugged in
Public bug reported: This is Xubuntu 18.04.1, kernel 4.15.0-43-generic on a Dell Latitude 5580. I've found that if I have headphones plugged in when I suspend the system (either by closing the laptop lid, or by using Whisker menu > Power button > Suspend), then the system does not resume properly. It appears that a full boot occurs: Dell logo appears, followed by the Grub menu, and after selecting the boot option and booting, I get a new login session instead of my suspended one. I tried some combinations of booting, suspending and resuming with the headphones attached or detached. The 'yes'/'no' indicates whether the headphones were plugged in when I performed the operation. 'ok' indicates that the resume succeeded: after authenticating to xscreensaver, my previous session was resumed. [Bug 1810052] [NEW] Grub install fails during Dual Boot Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Install with Win10Pro
Public bug reported: Original: Fujitsu LIFEBOOK E782 with Windows 10 Pro; one SDD, no further HDD First installation of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS one week ago alongside Win 10 worked fine. Booting the Desktop-CD from USB (with no needed UEFI setting changes) worked fine, partitioning with gparted and installation on Desktop-CD finished normally. During booting always GRUB screen to choose between Ubuntu and Windows. --> Perfect. BUT After first use of Windows 10: No GRUB menu anymore, but always direct start into Windows. Reason!?: Fast boot was not deactivated. Deactivation did not solve the problem. (And in UEFI menu no secure boot options available that could be deactivated. And if these would be the reason, Ubuntu should not have worked before!?) When entering boot options on startup and choosing Ubuntu (which is still at first boot position) nothing happens. Obviously second boot option "Windows" is always entered because first boot option "Ubuntu" fails. BUT why is a priorly fully-working Ubuntu not usable anymore after one Windows start with first activated but meanwhile deactivated fast boot option? My try: New install of Ubuntu in the same way like initially done - with the Ubuntu-Desktop from USB. BUT NOW: During installation GRUB cannot be installed anymore - tried two times now. During installation I left the boot loader installation location to default /dev/sda, although precisely the Windows bootloader is at /dev/sda2 because I read multiply times that in EFI mode this is detected automatically. Detailed system info will hopefully be in the automatic debug information with the report. Thanks for any help, best regards! [Bug 1798868] Re: Compiz Crashed with SIGSEGV [Radeon]
** Description changed: + SEE WORKAROUND AT END OF POST + Symptoms: On login, the desktop takes a long time to load, and when it does, everything blinks. It is possible (but difficult) to open a terminal and execute commands, through the right-click desktop menu. I first noticed the issue in mid-July of 2018. System: Acer 5100 Ubuntu 16.04 (64-bit) Graphics card: VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] RS482M [Mobility Radeon Xpress 200] Believed to be mesa-related, as symptoms very similar to bug #1741447 and #1735594. I have been informed by a mesa developer that my issue is different because that bug affects Intel GPUs. This system has a Radeon GPU. Log files are as attached to bug #1795709. That bug was declared invalid by Apport because it says I don't have the necessary debug packages installed. However, I could not find the debug packages in the repository, so that is why I am submitting this report manually. Many thanks for any help. + + Edit 29/12/2018: + WORKAROUND + This bug is still present. However, I present a workaround. It is aimed at relatively inexperienced users like me. It guides the user through downgrading/rolling back affected packages to the most recent known working versions. + 1. Navigate to /var/log/apt in a file explorer. Open the logs until you find the offending mesa updates. In my case, the updates were installed on 15/07/18. + 2. Copy and paste the log into a text file on your desktop. Close the log. + 3. In the text file, do a ctrl+F search on "mesa" to highlight all instances of mesa-related packages. Keep these lines and delete the others. Each line should have this kind of format: + libgles2-mesa:amd64 (17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1, 18.0.5-0ubuntu0~16.04.1) (exact package name/version numbers may differ). The first number in brackets is the version of the package that you had before, the second number is the version it was upgraded to. You should end up with a list of such lines. + 4. The earlier versions of these packages can be downloaded from Launchpad. I don't know how to find them using links/searches, but the URLs look like this: + https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/xenial/amd64/libgles2-mesa/17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1. You will have to alter the url according to your architecture, package name and package version required. + 5. You will see a page with a download link on the right-hand side for a .deb file. Make a new folder on your desktop called "mesa-install" and download the .deb file there. + 6. Scroll down, and on the left, you will see any dependencies of this package. If any of them say " (=version number)" then you must make a note of these packages on your list of packages to download and install. If they have a ">=" sign, or no version number given, ignore them. + 7. Repeat steps 4 - 6 for all the packages on your list, placing the .deb files in the "mesa-install" folder. + 8. MAKE SURE ALL IMPORTANT FILES ON YOUR SYSTEM ARE BACKED UP. + 9. Open a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T). + 10. Type "sudo dpkg -R --install /home//Desktop/mesa-install/ + Replace " with your username. This command installs all .deb files in that folder. + 11. Reboot PC. + 12. Log in to a Unity session. Rejoice in the fact that it now works (hopefully). Assuming it is now working, you need to make sure that the packages you downgraded are not subsequently upgraded automatically by Ubuntu. Ignore any offers of automatic updates until you have completed all the steps. + 13. Open a terminal and type: + sudo apt-mark hold + where "" is the name of the first package you downgraded. Press enter, enter password, etc. You should receive confirmation that the package has been held. + 14. Do not know if it is a pulseaudio or a alsa-driver bug (cf. https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/PulseAudio/Documentation/User/PulseAudioStoleMyVolumes/) but I think it is both: 1/ ALSA driver may not report correct dB information. 2/ PulseAudio may not correctly mix PCM into Master since changing Master volume does nothing at all. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1810039 Title: Volume noisy and loud with no level control [HDA Intel PCH / Realtek ALC295] To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1810039/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Adding CSS somewhere, even when you can, to style a single table by column position (which can change as you author/update it), is unmaintainable at best. Examine tables in the wild. [Bug 875343] Re: Stuck at "Saving installed packages..." when using a custom /var
Installing from scratch Ubuntu 18.10, with a customised full disk encryption partitioning scheme. After setting up separate encrypted volumes with new filesystems for these mountpoints: / /boot /home swap I started ubiquity and forgot -b so it completed fast but crashed at end (it is a known bug: on a FDE setup -b is needed, grub must be installed after configuring GRUB_ENABLE_CRYPTODISK=y in /etc/default/grub). So, I restarted with the switch ubiquity -b and met this "bug". Which isn't, at least in one, my, case. It's a "feature": finding an existing installation, ubiquity uses dpkg-repack to save the customisations and transport them to the new installation; this takes very long time, enough to find and read the preceding 45 posts... In case of a new installation, kill ubiquity and restart recreating empty filesystems is quicker than waiting the repacking of the whole release. OTOH, there seems to be also real bug described here: when /var is a mountpoint. Rethinking, there are 2 bugs. One is in front of the keyboard. Those who want to keep the existing customised configuration should not reinstall, but should should perform a do-release-upgrade Catering for those who reinstall but want to keep previous settings is a bug, I say. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/875343 Title: Stuck at "Saving installed packages..." when using a custom /var To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/875343/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1784485] Re: [ZenBook S UX391UA, Realtek ALC294, Mic, Internal] No sound at all
@VanVan That's strange! To be on the safe side, I even did a fresh Ubuntu 18.10 installation and updated to the 4.20 kernel with UKUU, but I still don't have sound. Neither from the internal, nor the external speakers. I've played around with alsamixer in the terminal – without success. Can somebody confirm that they got the sound running just by installing the latest kernel (4.20) on the ASUS UX391UA (that's the model this issues is actually about)? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1784485 Title: [ZenBook S UX391UA, Realtek ALC294, Mic, Internal] No sound at all To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1784485/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1798790] Re: Ubuntu login screen never appears when using the Nvidia driver (and setting WaylandEnable=false fixes it)
This is not a problem of Wayland or Ubuntu but of Gnome and the Nvidia driver. In fact Fedora 29 has the same problem, only it has to come out a month later they deactivate the proprietary driver and force to use Noveau. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1798790 Title: Ubuntu login screen never appears when using the Nvidia driver (and setting WaylandEnable=false fixes it) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1798790/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
