[Bug 1781298]
Hi Andre, I applied the patch to xfdesktop-4.13.2 on my Gentoo Linux. After a brief testing I have indeed no new core dumps in my /var/dumps/, great. I realized that if I use Fn+F1 to use only my external HDMI display and to turn off the laptop's internal LCD, after lid open my laptop has again enabled LCD screen and using the size of the external HDMI display (1920x1200 instead of its own max 1366x768). I do not recall seeing this before. Could this be caused by your patch? $ dmesg [ 746.362842] [7102]: Lid closed. [ 754.655963] [7102]: Lid opened. [ 765.975115] [7102]: Lid closed. [ 4948.342004] [7102]: Lid opened. $ Maybe some checksum could be logged too so one could better discern when the event triggered and to better match it so .xsession-errors file contents? In the below log the messages around "Negative content width -1" were supposedly caused by libreoffice which remembers position o the window from a last execution and placed the window on my laptop indeed somewhere above the left upper corner. I assume that is because it remembered position from my 1920x1200 external HDMI screen while at the moment I was using laptop's internal 1366x768 screen. As there is no "Move window" place around the window luckily the only way to get to the menu of the window is to use "Maximize window" from the Xfce panel. Anyway, the logged events you added in the patch should bear a timestamp (see below). $ cat ~/.xsession-errors /usr/bin/startxfce4: X server already running on display :0 gpg-agent[7061]: WARNING: "--write-env-file" is an obsolete option - it has no effect gpg-agent[7062]: gpg-agent (GnuPG) 2.2.12 started (xfce4-session:7009): xfce4-session-WARNING **: 11:12:38.070: gpg-agent returned no PID in the variables (xfsettingsd:7085): xfsettingsd-WARNING **: 11:12:40.634: Property "/Gdk/WindowScalingFactor" has an unsupported type "guint". ** (xfdesktop:7089): WARNING **: 11:12:41.636: Thumbnailer failed calling GetFlavors (xfsettingsd:7085): xfsettingsd-CRITICAL **: 11:12:42.185: Stored Xfconf properties disable all outputs, aborting. Thanks Martin for testing my patch, I'm glad it fixed the problem for you. With regards to the screen size issues you are facing, I'm 99.9% sure it's not caused by xfdesktop, but xfce4-settings. Have you tried reverting the patch or even disabling xfdesktop (xfdesktop -Q)? I'm confident the behavior will be the same. Also, have a look at recent improvements to screen management made by Simon: https://simon.shimmerproject.org/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1781298 Title: desktop app crashed when i switched inputs on my monitor away and back (possibly not the cause) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xfdesktop/+bug/1781298/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

When I have only external HDMI enabled and close my laptop and turn off the external HDMI screen, upon lid open I get: (xfsettingsd:7085): xfsettingsd-CRITICAL **: 12:58:04.247: Failed to apply display settings UNREF LOADER (note only one UNREF LOADER message). Then after turning on the external HDMI and Fn+F1 to use only external HDMI screen I get the second: UNREF LOADER line into the .xsession-errors file. Supposedly because the laptops internal LCD was just turned off (anyway, it had the wrong size 1920x1200 since the lid open). The message " Failed to apply display settings" should be clearer and mention which display it was looking for. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1781298 Title: desktop app crashed when i switched inputs on my monitor away and back (possibly not the cause) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xfdesktop/+bug/1781298/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1781298]
Hi, sorry to bug you again. I let the laptop with external HDMI enabled and internal LCD disabled. After a while external HDMI felt asleep into stand-by mode. But, I could not wake up a screen when touching my keyboard. Not even ctrl+alt+f1 helped (which usually brings me into framebuffer console out off the X11 windows and hence wakes up my screen). Alt+SysRq+S seemed to trigger some disk activity at least. The trick which worked was to close the lid and open again. That at least woke up the internal LCD of the laptop. Although it so far feels like a bug in this case it was better than nothing. $ dmesg [ 746.362842] [7102]: Lid closed. [ 754.655963] [7102]: Lid opened. [ 765.975115] [7102]: Lid closed. [Bug 1810123] [NEW] Merge debootstrap 1.0.112 from Debian Sid
Public bug reported: We should merge debootstrap from Debian Sid because it has some very notable speed enhancements. Full changelog below: debootstrap (1.0.112) unstable; urgency=low [ Thomas Lange ] * optimize code, make debootstrap faster (Closes: #871835) - use hash instead of grep for each line we read - we can use elsif, because the line can't match both patterns - There's no need to print the dependencies for each package separately, if when later do sort|uniq, so just collect all dependencies in a hash and print them at the end - do not read all lines of the Packages file into the perl scripts, egrep is used for filtering only the lines we need to read, since egrep is faster than perl, this save a lot of time - speed up by using grep -P and setting LC_ALL=C - automatic detect if grep support perl regex - in this part, we only need the package name and priority this makes another little speedup, since the perl part need less lines to parse -- Hideki Yamane Sun, 23 Dec 2018 18:24:00 +0900 debootstrap (1.0.111) unstable; urgency=medium * Team upload [ Simon McVittie ] * Disable merged /usr by default when making a buildd chroot (closes: #914208) -- Julien Cristau Fri, 30 Nov 2018 21:01:08 +0100 debootstrap (1.0.110) unstable; urgency=medium [ Luca Falavigna ] * Add (Ubuntu) disco as a symlink to gutsy. [ Hideki Yamane ] * Add debian/source/lintian-overrides to ignore lintian warnings since it is really necessary for debootstrap -- Hideki Yamane Thu, 08 Nov 2018 07:16:42 +0900 debootstrap (1.0.109) unstable; urgency=medium [ Raphaël Hertzog ] * Keep all script files in the udeb so that derivatives can use the udeb built by Debian. Related to #893713. [ Hideki Yamane ] * Just set Standards-Version: 4.2.1 without change -- Hideki Yamane Mon, 10 Sep 2018 02:42:58 +0900 >From what I can see, xnox's delta should be kept: * Demote arch-test to suggests. * Drop ubuntu-archive-kerying (sic) suggests, such a package does not exist in Ubuntu. I'll go ahead and merge/upload but mark this bug as block-proposed to wait for xnox and/or someone else from Foundations to ack and do testing independent of mine. [Bug 1791908] Re: uvcvideo: Failed to query (GET_INFO) UVC control 4 on unit 2: -32 (exp. 1).
Problem is intermittent for me. When I posted my previous comment, I had just done a fresh boot from power-off (I never use hibernate or suspend, and don't even have any swap partition or swap file configured), and had gotten the error on that boot, and guvcvideo didn't work. I just did 4 more power-off reboots (using "shutdown" from the LXDE shutdown menu, not "reboot" or "suspend" etc) , and I didn't get the error any of those times, and guvcvideo worked in each of those sessions. Same kernel each time, (4.20.0-042000rc7-generic). Two of the boots I pressed enter in grub to skip the grub timeout, 2 times I let grub time out, no difference. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1791908 Title: uvcvideo: Failed to query (GET_INFO) UVC control 4 on unit 2: -32 (exp. 1). Public bug reported: I've tried to install Lubuntu 18.04.1 LTS Desktop 64bit in virtualbox for 4 times. Every try I've generated a new 12 gigabyte vhd. My virtual machine has 1 core, 1024 megabytes of memory, and 12 gigabytes of storage. Happens when installing in default harddrive partition configuration, 'cuz I currently don't have the time to partition my drives. I haven't tested it on a custom partioned vhd. - TheDevMiner ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: ubiquity 18.04.14.6 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-29.31-generic 4.15.18 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-29-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.2 Architecture: amd64 CasperVersion: 1.394 Date: Sun Dec 30 22:12:17 2018 InstallCmdLine: file=/cdrom/preseed/lubuntu.seed boot=casper only-ubiquity initrd=/casper/initrd.lz quiet splash --- debian-installer/language=de keyboard-configuration/layoutcode?=de LiveMediaBuild: Lubuntu 18.04.1 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Release amd64 (20180725) ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=de_DE.UTF-8 PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 LC_NUMERIC=C.UTF-8 SourcePackage: ubiquity UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug bionic lubuntu ubiquity-18.04.14.6 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1810117 Title: lubuntu 18.04.1 installer crashes every time in virtualbox To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1810117/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Installed Xubuntu 18.04 in a QEMU virtual machine using -device virtio- vga, virgl=true fails to boot. [Bug 1810105] [NEW] Hint showing volume never disappears, blocking buttons to minimize, maximize and close
Public bug reported: When hovering the mouse over the volume indicator or changing its volume using the mouse wheel it shows the current volume set as a hint. For example: Volume 100% The problem is that the hint never disappears, not even clicking on it. On some occasions the hint can cover the minimize, maximize and close buttons, causing significant problems on using the desktop environment, as these three buttons won't be usable anymore with the hint over it. [Bug 1335725] Re: dolphin cannot find a file
Oddly enough, the find function works in Dolphin if, and only if, I go to Settings > Search > and UN-tick "Enable File Search". This bug has been around for years. I'm surprised it doesn't have a higher priority considering that file search has been a part of every operating system I've known since the CP/M and DOS days. So it can work, as long as it's turned off. It seems to me that this would be extremely easy to fix, simply by re-naming the checkbox "Disable File Search" (as if anyone would want to do that but ya never know) and just make the box's value default to false (box not checked) vs. true (box checked). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1335725 Title: dolphin cannot find a file To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dolphin/+bug/1335725/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1810095] Re: Configuring the network is not "user-friendly" in Lubuntu
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1810095/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1810095] [NEW] Configuring the network is not "user-friendly" in Lubuntu
Public bug reported: Hi. I just installed Lubuntu 18.10 which comes with lxqt and I love the performances, the beauty and the simplicity of the desktop environment you created. I would like to install it everywhere and to advise it to my non-techy- Windows-user friends, but I hesitate to do so because there are few things that are not as polished as on other distributions. One problem, in my opinion, is the configuration of the network. This is the first thing we do after installing an OS, so this is the first interaction of the user with the distribution, and it means so much on his first impression of this new environment. I made this gif right after installing Lubuntu, while Internet is not yet working. https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/4193924/50548291-6863e080 -0c4a-11e9-87b8-8651f7da8ca4.gif I wanted to denote a few things: * Clicking on the "Wi-Fi network" does nothing - I guess it should either not be clickable or open a window information / configuration about the network * Clicking on the network in "Known connection" disconnect me - Why does it do so while clicking on the same network under "Wi-Fi network" did nothing? - How can it disconnect me while I'm not even connected? - What actually changed? The icon stays the same. The network list stays the same. * The "Connection Information" open an empty window - I suppose it should display a message like "You are not currently connected to any network". Otherwise, the user may think "Is it a bug? Is it loading data info in the background?" * The "Edit connections" open a Shell rather that a graphical window - I know that this is easily configurable and that there is not even one command line to type, but this would be much more welcoming if configuring the network was made trough a graphical window, and if it just required to type the WPA key in a input box. I know it may sound like detail and that lxqt is already very easy to use, but I sincerely believe that the graphical interface would benefit a lot for being as user-friendly as possible. I hope it makes as much sense to you as it makes to me. Public bug reported: The bug occurred after I tried to read a plain and normal video DVD in my computer, opening it with the adequate software included in lubuntu OS. The disk got stuck in the machine, (it still is). I first saw a question mark on the dark screen, then after a while the ubuntu rescue screen, which I fortunately happened to use, and there I am...though being a total ninny as regards computers. P.
