[Bug 1756380] Re: vaapi VP9 hardware decoding not working anymore in bionic
That's right. I would recommend avoiding i965-va-driver-shaders and use only i965-va-driver. The latter should be more efficient and supported by Intel. But you do need to ensure your hardware is new enough for VP9 decoding. Only Intel 7th generation (Kaby Lake) and later chips support VP9. It appears that in the recent past this crash became so prolific that it might have been confused for other similar crashes in day to day bug maintenance. For example, the link https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/8ef857b2fe07d60742cd02d7d8f988f78ecd0f95 is actually a different crash with a different log message, and is not this bug at all. That has now moved to bug 1736664. Although the problem isn't just human error, but also I suspect there might be some automatic misclassification going on within errors.ubuntu.com too. If you are experiencing bug 1736664 then please comment there. Otherwise please log new bug reports for each new crash you see so we can try to classify them better in future. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1748450 Title: gnome-shell crashed with SIGTRAP in _g_log_abort() from g_log_default_handler() from default_log_handler(message="Connection to xwayland lost") from g_logv() from g_log() from To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1748450/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1771185] Re: Secondary monitor not connecting in 18.04 LTS
So, seems I have figured out the issue (at least on my Lenovo T460s) and I think it lies with the Intel chip internal GPU. If you use display port and HDMI-->Display Port adapter it won't work. The Intel chip doesn't seem to support two DP connections at a time. But you can connect Dp & HDMI-->DVI at the same time (or VGA for that matter) & Internal display. So max is 3 displays but they need to be different techs. [Bug 1810695] [NEW] g++: M_PI is visible in conforming mode
Public bug reported: The macro M_PI, which expands to a constant approximating the value of pi, is defined by POSIX, but not by ISO C or ISO C++. It is not a reserved identifier, so it should be available for use as a user-defined identifier. The problem: Including causes M_PI to be defined, even when the C++ compiler is invoked in what should be a conforming mode. EXPECTED: Program compiles without error and prints "3". OBSERVED: Program is rejected at compile time. (The program is rejected when g++ or clang++ is invoked without options. That's not a bug.) Using rather than doesn't change the symptom. A similar program in C does not exhibit the problem. I *think* the problem is in the "math.h" header, which should arrange for M_PI and similar macros not to be defined in conforming mode. It's also possible that a fix might involve updates to g++ and/or clang++. I haven't fully investigated the twisty maze of macro definitions and nested #includes in math.h. (I acknowledge that writing your own definition of M_PI is not a good idea, and that the definition in this program is particularly poor style.) Output illustrating the problem follows: $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS Release:18.04 $ uname -a Linux bomb20 4.15.0-42-generic #45-Ubuntu SMP Thu Nov 15 19:32:57 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux $ dpkg -l g++ clang libc6-dev:amd64 | grep '^ii' ii clang 1:6.0-41~exp5~ubuntu1 amd64C, C++ and Objective-C compiler (LLVM based) ii g++ 4:7.3.0-3ubuntu2.1amd64GNU C++ compiler ii libc6-dev:amd64 2.27-3ubuntu1 amd64GNU C Library: Development Libraries and Header Files $ g++ --version | head -1 g++ (Ubuntu 7.3.0-27ubuntu1~18.04) 7.3.0 $ clang++ --version clang version 6.0.0-1ubuntu2 (tags/RELEASE_600/final) Target: x86_64-pc-linux-gnu Thread model: posix InstalledDir: /usr/bin $ cat M_PI_bug.cpp #include #include int main() { const int M_PI = 22/7; std::cout << M_PI << '\n'; } // This is not reasonable code. // The issue is that a conforming C++ compiler must accept it. // Expected output: 3 $ g++ -std=c++17 -pedantic-errors -c M_PI_bug.cpp In file included from /usr/include/c++/7/cmath:45:0, from M_PI_bug.cpp:2: M_PI_bug.cpp: In function ‘int main()’: M_PI_bug.cpp:4:15: error: expected unqualified-id before numeric constant const int M_PI = 22/7; ^ $ clang++ -std=c++17 -pedantic-errors -c M_PI_bug.cpp M_PI_bug.cpp:4:15: error: expected unqualified-id const int M_PI = 22/7; ^ /usr/include/math.h:777:16: note: expanded from macro 'M_PI' # define M_PI 3.14159265358979323846 /* pi */ ^ 1 error generated. ** Affects: glibc (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1810695 Title: g++: M_PI is visible in conforming mode To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glibc/+bug/1810695/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Any news on this? killall firefox does not work at all (Ubuntu). pkill -x firefox-bingives a crash dialog when starting firefox next time. (sorry, by which I meant to say more specifically: 'killall firefox' has the same issue, it prompts a session crash dialog for me on next startup. It's just not something I use often since I usually use the close button which works, but on shutdown the same mechanism is used - of course with a timeout as you correctly state, but that doesn't help when it doesn't even work correctly with no timeout) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/73536 Title: MASTER Firefox crashes on instant X server shutdown To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/firefox/+bug/73536/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Comment on attachment 8959924 Bug 336193 - P1: Use SignalPipeWatcher to detect signals SIGTERM/SIGINT/SIGHUP and quit application gracefully. https://reviewboard.mozilla.org/r/228682/#review235302 > I based this off nsProfileLock's CATCH_SIGNAL() which does not register for signal handlers that have already been set to SIG_IGN. I guess the logic is that if some other component has already chosen to ignore the signal then there is probably a good reason for that and we shouldn't interfere. It would also be inconsistent if we treated it like normal, started shutdown and then restored SIG_IGN which would not follow through with killing the process for subsequent termination attempts. It is always possible to change the signal handler to something else before calling RegisterCallback() to get around this if need be. SignalPipeWatcher is more general than just handling termination signals (although the SignalPipeWatcher interface is not documented and so it is not clear what it is suitable for, and the whole situation with others also calling sigaction for the same signals is already delicate), and so I wouldn't treat the SIG_IGN case special if I were writing this myself. Changing the signal handler to something else before calling RegisterCallback, doesn't work so well with UnregisterCallback. But I checked "The default action for an unhandled real-time signal is to terminate the receiving process." and so the existing client, nsMemoryInfoDumper should not trigger this case. That makes this harmless for now at least, and so feel free to drop this issue if you prefer. At least we have a record of the reason for the check, so that someone can re-evaluate later if required. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/73536 Title: MASTER Firefox crashes on instant X server shutdown To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/firefox/+bug/73536/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Does this bug also include the session not being properly counted as regularly closed when I shut down the computer normally with firefox open? (And firefox offering me a misguided tab restore after a supposed "crash" on next run) Because that's what I'm seeing here as a normal Linux desktop user. It seems odd that this is the only place in our test automation requiring this change. Other test harnesses have similar measures in place to ensure the browser is killed. Do none of them use sigterm? ::: testing/mochitest/runtests.py:344 (Diff revision 1) > for p in gone: > log.info('psutil found pid %s dead' % p.pid) > for p in alive: > log.info('failed to kill pid %d after 30s' % p.pid) > +# Try again, second SIGTERM is more forceful > +p.send_signal(signal.SIGTERM) It is important for debugging intermittent failures that logging accurately identifies when a process cannot be killed. Created attachment 8963553 Bug 336193 - P2: Use a second SIGTERM in killPid() to ensure parent process is killed. killPid() needs to do more than send a single SIGTERM to the parent process now that it only triggers graceful shutdown, sending a second SIGTERM terminates it forcefully like before. (In reply to jonas from comment #63) That is a bug (IMO) in most distros' shutdown/reboot sequences, where they give applications no time to shut down before sending SIGKILL.
