[Bug 1709877] Re: CPU hotplug fails in the system with empty numa nodes, "Invalid value '0-1, 16-17' for 'cpuset.mems': Invalid argument"

2019-01-07 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
A proper documentation of a limitation is just as much effort as a fix
since it is known in this case. And I like to fix things, I just wanted
to make sure that the case is real.

You will have to check the PPA and later in the processing of the bug you'll
have to do the SRU verification as you are the only one with such a system to
trigger and verify the issue.
Please could you explicitly state that you are also willing and able to do the
SRU verification later on? Otherwise the SRU hangs around forever and blocks
other things.

I have rebased (wow 10 versions since our last try) the fix that I had and
created a new PPA for you at [1].
Please could you verify that PPA, if the fix is ok we can go on to start the
SRU process on this.

2019-01-07 Thread kao
I didn't test it with disabled Bluetooth. So cannot provide correct
information.

However, there is some update on the issue. Recently (4 days ago), I have
rolled back to default kernel 4.18 and updated atheros firmware to one from
kvalo (QCA-ATH10KwWLAN.RM.4.4.1-00128-QCARMSWPZ).
By now, the issue haven't occurred at all.

[Bug 1810892] Re: lineout jack can't work on a Dell machine

2019-01-07 Thread Hui Wang
** Description changed:

- - ODM has reported that the audio still outputs from the built-in
- speakers when plugging in a headphone to the rear audio out jack.
+
+ [Impact]
+ The rear lineout jack can't work. If users plug a headphone or audio
+ cable into the lineout jack, nothing happens, the audio still output
+ from internal speaker. The expected behaviour is the lineout is
+ active and the sound is routed to lineout jack from internal speaker.
+
+ [Fix]
+ apply the ALC274_FIXUP_DELL_AIO_LINEOUT_VERB, this will set the
+ lineout pin to be a correct configuration value.
+
+
+ [Test Case]
+ plug headphone into the rear lineout jack, system can detect lineout
+ jack is plugged and the audio output is routed to lineout jack from
+ internal speaker.
+
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Very low, this patch is specific to one Dell machine model.

In general libvirt/cgroup should handle different system configs, this happens
in one of my test systems
not sure if we have productions configs similar, like memoryless numa nodes.

Am fine to close this as won't fix but we need to document for the user
that "not to expect vcpu hotplug working in case they have memoryless
numa node", but am afraid if that is what we want to do?

[Bug 1810022] Re: Totem does not play MOV file with x264 encoding

2019-01-07 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Also since you get this after following Seb's advice:

  totem 1.MOV
  double free or corruption (!prev)
  Aborted (core dumped)

we next need to get some information about that crash. Please follow
these instructions to find the crash details and send them to us:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

And I don't mean to imply Seb's advice was bad. It was very good advice.
We still need to debug the crash...

[Bug 1810022] Re: Totem does not play MOV file with x264 encoding

2019-01-07 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. It appears you have an Nvidia graphics driver installed, so that
prevents hardware-accelerated video decoding via VAAPI from working. :(

It looks like mpv did work, is that correct? If so then to get Totem
working please try this:

  sudo apt remove gstreamer1.0-vaapi:amd64

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1727356 ***

The real issue is why the machine hangs on a purple screen without
'nomodeset'. And I think I have a simple answer: Your CPU is a Core2, so
you are actually seeing bug 1727356. Please apply the workaround
mentioned in bug 1727356 and then you can permanently remove
'nomodeset'.

This is now a duplicate of bug 1727356.

[Bug 1810444] Re: The screen freezes

2019-01-07 Thread Daniel van Vugt
OK.

Firstly, you seem to have one kernel message flooding the log:

[ 44.158265] Audio Port: ASoC: no backend DAIs enabled for Audio Port
[ 44.158962] Audio Port: ASoC: no backend DAIs enabled for Audio Port
[ 44.159402] Audio Port: ASoC: no backend DAIs enabled for Audio Port

So I would suggest using a newer kernel on this machine. The best way to
do that is to install Ubuntu 18.04 instead.

Secondly, next time the screen freezes, please reboot and then run:

  journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

and attach the file 'prevboot.txt' here.

You might also want to follow these instructions to check for any crashes:

2019-01-07 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. This means the kernel can't detect anything plugged into HDMI:

/sys/class/drm/card0-HDMI-A-1/enabled:disabled

It appears you have a Sandy Bridge CPU and the required packages

So that should work. Maybe Seb has a point...

2. Try playing the video with 'mpv' and send us the output that 'mpv'

[Bug 1809660] Re: When starting new user session, new gdm session may spawn

2019-01-07 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I can only guess. gdm3 will usually run the login screen on VT1 only.
The second login screen on VT3 may be either a pure mistake (gdm3 not
knowing what is current at the time), or it might be a fallback if
changing to VT1 briefly wasn't possible (for some reason). Either way
it's failing to clean up.

I suggest the next step is to report the bug to the gdm developers here:

  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gdm

And when done please let us know the new bug ID.

[Bug 1809517] Re: OS freezes after screen turns off and I return to account

2019-01-07 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I did interpret "I have disabled Ubuntu from requiring my password after
the screen turns off" as automatic login/no password. Maybe that's
incorrect.

So a few questions:

1. Does your login have a password and/or is it configured for automatic
login?

2. Is the dock ("taskbar") visible on the "landing page"?

3. Does re-locking (Super+L) and re-unlocking the system get around the
problem?

4. Please run 'apport-collect 1809517' to send us more information about
the system.

[Bug 1795342] Re: High Power Consumption

2019-01-07 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Did you confirm the power usage is still too high before sending
allprocs.txt?

Even that second file doesn't seem to show any long term execution. So
maybe forget about leaving the machine idle. Just leave it on for
multiple hours/days, use it, and then please send another allprocs.txt.

James,

I think this bug is fixed, and we just have too many spurious bug links
pointing here due to similar stack traces. If you can share a link to
one of your recent crash reports it would be most helpful.

[Bug 124406] Re: Keyboard keys get stuck and repeat

2019-01-07 Thread Felipe Butcher
wow! see this was opened in 2007. just googled this from the future (i
am in 2018) and found this.

using ubuntu 18. found that what was causing it in my case was a
clipboard manager i use here. closing the clipboard manager stopped the
bleeding.
