[Bug 1817397] [NEW] cherrytree version in ubuntu disco repository is outdated

2019-02-22 Thread Drew Woodard
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 19.04 repos contain cherrytree version 0.37.6-1.1 released 2016-10-24.
Since that date there have been 9 releases, with 0.38.8 being released on
2019-02-20.

The author has source and deb packages available

[Bug 66566]

2019-02-22 Thread cousteau
I don't see how removing shift-enter and ctrl-shift-enter is even remotely
related to the original request of making ctrl-enter open URLs in a new tab.
In addition, it breaks a preexisting functionality of having shift-enter
automatically add www. .net and ctrl-shift-enter add www. .org.
Personally, if this feature were really necessary (in which case it should have
been opened as a separate bug), I would rather have it moved to an unused
combination. For example, Windows-enter could be "open in new window" and
Windows-alt-enter for "open in new tab, but on the background".
Or, if it is really that important to have these shortcuts on shift and
ctrl-shift, even despite of breaking preexisting behavior and getting a lot of
users upset, at least make windows-enter and ctrl-windows-enter the new .net
and .org shortcuts so that this functionality is not lost.
(Or going further: use alt for .com, windows for .net, and alt-windows for
.org, so that ctrl is left for opening on a new tab, be it from the URL bar or
from a link on the page; now THAT would solve the inconsistency issue the bug
originally complained about.)

Ultimately, removing the shortcut for .net and .org but keeping it for
.com somehow suggests that .net and .org sites are "less important" than
.com ones. I could expect that from a browser developed by google.com
or microsoft.com, but not from one developed by mozilla.org.

2019-02-22 Thread Bmorrison025
My Apple laptop has a Ctrl key on the left side only, which means this
functionality is no longer a one-handed operation. For me this is a
frustrating downgrade, but for others I expect it's an accessibility
issue. No? I'd also like an option to restore the longstanding behavior.

[Bug 66566]

2019-02-22 Thread Gijskruitbosch+bugs
(In reply to cousteau from comment #163)

> I don't see how removing shift-enter and ctrl-shift-enter is even
remotely related to the original request of making ctrl-enter open URLs
in a new tab.

The point of the bug as filed was to make link opening modifiers work
the same between the url bar and other usecases. That applies to shift
and ctrl-shift as much as it does to just ctrl.

> Personally, if this feature were really necessary (in which case it
should have been opened as a separate bug), I would rather have it moved
to an unused combination. For example, Windows-enter could be "open in
new window" and Windows-alt-enter for "open in new tab, but on the
background".

We don't use any windows+ shortcuts inside Firefox and doing
so would be going against platform convention, which we wouldn't do
without very good reasons, so this is a non-starter.

> Ultimately, removing the shortcut for .net and .org but keeping it for
.com somehow suggests that .net and .org sites are "less important" than
.com ones. I could expect that from a browser developed by google.com
or microsoft.com, but not from one developed by mozilla.org.

In the global alexa top 50 there is 1 .org site (wikipedia), 1 .net site
(a Chinese site), and 48 .com sites, and so .com sites are pretty
conclusively more commonly used. Not to mention the fact that, if for
whatever reason .net (or any other suffix) is more common in your own
browsing habits, you can configure the default suffix in about:config
(both before and after this change), and it was never possible to
configure the suffix for shift-enter and ctrl-shift-enter.

I'm going to restrict comments here. The recent history of comments is just
repeated complaints that reiterate ground that has already been covered, and as
such isn't productive anymore. To reiterate:

- we won't (add a pref to) revert this behavior change. See comment #143. There
are always trade-offs when making changes to frequently-used parts of the
browser like the URL bar. We considered these trade-offs carefully before
making the change. That doesn't mean we believe there are no negative
side-effects, or that we don't regret people having to retrain muscle memory -
it means we made the change despite those side-effects, because we believe the
upsides outweigh those negative side-effects.
- yes, there's remaining ground to cover in terms of fixing up shortcuts to be
even more consistent with other browsers and/or with other uses of modifier
keys within Firefox. See bug 1513830, bug 1506203, bug 1506247 . If there's
other inconsistencies that got missed, please file separate follow-up bugs.
- you can already change the default completion for ctrl-enter to something
else in about:config using browser.fixup.alternate.suffix , if that's
preferable over .com .
- there are extant bugs on file for improving webextension control over
shortcuts via bug 1215061 and deps.

Can you clarify? Do you mean that the new version of gnome-shell has the

[Bug 1817391] [NEW] Audio stuttering

2019-02-22 Thread Andrew Crome
Public bug reported:

Since installing Ubuntu 18.10 on my system which previously had windows
10 I now get an intermittent stutter or hiccup for want of a better
word. It happens in Firefox Quantum and Chrome/Chromium I have tried a
number of fixes from you tube and various forums, but it still happens
and I'm at my wits end as it is so random.

My system is a Acer Aspire XC-603

1tb HDD
4gb ram
Intel Celeron J1900 @ 1.99 GHz

The sound card is integrated on the mother board

HDA-Intell-HDA intel PCH this problem is so random i never know when its
going to happen some times it does it one sometimes multiple times.

I'm totally at a loss

Can any one help ? I'm relatively new to this

I'm unable to locate the package version

I expected a clean audio output without any bugs and I'm getting hiccups
and stuttering

[Bug 1817334] Re: dock disappears after apt dist-upgrade, needed to install gnome-shell-extension-dashtodock by hand, restart gnome-shell, and enable extension in tweaks

2019-02-22 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report. Indeed not an "ideal upgrade experience"
but that's part of using a non stable serie of Ubuntu. The problem is
that the dock migrated out of disco-proposed before the new gnome-shell
version did, you can either downgrade to the previous version of ubuntu
dock or get the new gnome-shell version out of proposed

[Bug 765812] Re: Sound and Video not synchronised when ripping a DVD on the profile: Copy - No encoding.

2019-02-22 Thread Michael Quisido III
I also encountered this kind of problem. I have a cheap dash cam and I
downloaded the recorded video from it to my Ubuntu 18.04. Its an MP4
format but when I play the video using the Ubuntu default video
application the synchronization of the Audio/Video does not match to
each other. Is this a bug?

[Bug 1817389] [NEW] GIMP icon sizes small on large and huge setting

2019-02-22 Thread Talib Pierson
Public bug reported:

Description:
Increasing the icon size setting increases the size on some UI elements, while
decreasing the size of others. Sizes appear to increase up to a point, but once
that point is reached, the size reverts to small. This occurs at large for most
elements, but some get larger and revert at huge instead.

Reproduce:
$ gimp
click: Edit -> Preferences -> Icon theme (under Interface section) -> Custom
icon size (drop-down menu)
then the toolbar icons of "Large" and "Huge" settings on the icon size slider
are smaller than "Medium", being the same size as "Small" instead.

Where I've reproduced it:
Short: gimp 2.10.6 and 2.10.8 on Ubuntu 18.10 and Ubuntu 19.
Long: I've reproduced it in an Ubuntu 18.10 fresh install and a qemu-kvm
virtual machine. I've reproduced the problem in gimp 2.10.8 (apt) on Ubuntu 19
(development branch), so it doesn't look like it is fixed in newer versions.

Where I couldn't reproduce it:
When I tried to replicate it on Ubuntu 19 (development branch) with the flatpak
from the gimp website, the bug did not occur. Same for 18.10. Gimp version must
also be new enough to have icon size setting.

NOTE:
I've reported it on https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/issues/2313 but thought
that this bug would benefit from the attention of the Ubuntu
Community/Canonical, given that the bug was reproduced on Ubuntu, but not on
Debian, where gimp is an earlier version, or using flatpak. The problem may be
with the apt installation, since flatpak works, and which the GIMP team might
not be able to fix as easily as Ubuntu.

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 18.10
Release:18.10

$ apt-cache policy gimp
gimp:
  Installed: 2.10.6-3

  Version table:
 *** 2.10.6-3 500
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu cosmic/universe amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

What I expected to happen:
Icon size increases as slider increases through small, medium, large, and huge

What happened instead:
Icon sizes revert to small at large setting, other elements change in
unexpected ways at huge setting.

[Bug 305901]

2019-02-22 Thread Siddhesh-n
There was a pretty lengthy discussion on this late last year:

https://sourceware.org/ml/libc-alpha/2018-12/msg00838.html

where the behaviour breakage was introduced in the non-fortified path
and then reverted. It might be a good idea to resume that discussion
for the fortified case as well.

[Bug 305901]

2019-02-22 Thread Kees Cook
So I'd like to bring this back up and reiterate the issue: there is no
benefit to the early truncation, and it actively breaks lots of existing
software (which is why Debian and Ubuntu have had this fix for 10 years
now).

What is the _benefit_ of early truncation that justifies breaking so
many existing cases?

Can glibc please take this patch? http://paste.ubuntu.com/p/CbrxmSfKD4/

[Bug 305901]

2019-02-22 Thread Kees Cook
It's not defined in POSIX, but it has worked a certain way in glibc for
decades. There's no _reason_ to break it for _FORTIFY_SOURCE. Pre-
truncating just silently breaks programs and does weird stuff. If you
want to expose it with _FORITFY_SOURCE then have vsprintf notice that
the target and first format argument are the same variable, and refuse
to build.

Either pretruncation should be eliminated, or the undefined behavior
should be explicitly detected and dealt with. Just having programs lose
data while running with no indication of the cause seems like a terrible
user experience.

2019-02-22 Thread Kees Cook
I'd still like to have this patch applied -- while we can claim the
behavior is "undefined", it is not, in fact, undefined. It behaves one
way without -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2, and differently with it. And that
difference doesn't need to exist. Ubuntu carried this patch for quite a
while.

2019-02-22 Thread Michal-novotny
I'm closing this as WFM because the bug isn't limited only to firefox.
Any application that calls getaddrinfo quickly enough will trigger it.

Rex, I didn't find anything strange in any config file you've posted. I
tried to reproduce it on Fedora and Valentin tried it on Ubuntu, but we
were unable to reproduce it. If you would like to track the bug down to
nsswitch level, I would recommend to run the python test with rr (https
://rr-project.org/) and if it's reproducible using rr, then you should
be able to debug it after installing appropriate debug packages.

[Bug 1815339]

2019-02-22 Thread Till Kamppeter
The Ubuntu security team has applied the fix for this bug to the
GhostScript 9.26 which they have issued as security update to several
Ubuntu versions.

Unfortunately, this fix has caused a regression. It was reported here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1817308

The user tells that all pages come out with a blue background now.

I will ask the user for further information.

2019-02-22 Thread Jason Mills
Took some additional digging, but already confirmed, and definitely
yubikey-luks side of the fence... it was using a non-public interface.

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=904162#15

Looks like there was some refactoring, and ostensibly this is fixed in a
later iteration of yubikey-luks that is in U19.04/Disco but not
U18.10/Cosmic at present

[Bug 1619921] Re: Password Prompt for yubikey not showing in Plymouth

2019-02-22 Thread Jason Mills
Conclusion thus far: What I am seeing might be a new breakage of
yubikey-luks in U18.10/Cosmic.

I dug up an older Ubuntu system (U16.04.3 LTS) that is known-working
with Yubikey LUKS + Plymouth, and `/conf/conf.d/cryptroot` is present in
initramfs. Contents is one line, a target specification for the root FS.
The line referencing it in `/scripts/local-top/yubikey-luks` looks
substantially similar to the one in U18.10 / Cosmic.

Digging through various versions of cryptsetup imported from upstream
(Debian), I see that between ubuntu/bionic and ubuntu/cosmic, generation
of `/conf/conf.d/cryptroot` seems to have been retired. Specifically, as
part of refactoring at:

debian/changelog
   cryptsetup (2:2.0.3-2) unstable; urgency=medium

 [ Guilhem Moulin ]
 * debian/initramfs/*-hook: complete refactoring. Common functions are now
in
   /lib/cryptsetup/functions (source-able from shell scripts).
   (Closes: #784881.)
   https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=784881

… subsequent to which, debian/initramfs/cryptroot-hook add_device() (the
function which was responsible for constructing
`/conf/conf.d/cryptroot`) disappears.

Also of note: I fully removed yubikey-luks (`apt-get --purge remove
yubikey-luks`), and only the first of the two cryptroot errors I mentioned
above has disappeared. -- Looks like the "line 218" one is unrelated to
yubikey-luks.

[Bug 1817376] Re: krb5-admin-server postinst has broken debconf if RUN_KADMIND set in /etc/default/krb5-admin-server

2019-02-22 Thread Sam Hartman
I think this is basically only a problem on upgrade from older versions of
krb5, in particular from prior to the 1.12 era to the current packaging.
As part of adding support for systemd units, I decided to drop support for the
run_kadmind variable, and bungled the upgrade path.
This is an issue for upgrades from trusty or precise to anything newer if you
are running krb5-admin-server.
There's a very simple work around: remove run_kadmind from
/etc/default/krb5-admin-server.
I'll fix for Debian shortly.
What Ubuntu versions is this worth doing a fix for?

[Bug 1619921] Re: Password Prompt for yubikey not showing in Plymouth

2019-02-22 Thread Jason Mills
Interesting tidbits from Cosmic (U18.10), running with `splash` removed
from boot arguments (i.e. disable Plymouth splash).

Boot LUKS prompt display:

sed: /conf/conf.d/cryptroot: No such file or directory

 ... (unrelated LVMeta'd warning)

/scripts/local-top/cryptroot: line 218: fold: not found
   Please unlock disk sda3_crypt:

Okay, still not clear why yubikey-luks isn't working, but at least
there's an error or two now. :-)

I then tried both enabling chatty mode (`quiet` removed) and breaking
before mount phase in initramfs bringup (`break=premount` added) to do
some further digging.

The only reference within the as-built initramfs to
`/conf/conf.d/cryptroot` anywhere in `/scripts/` is `/scripts/local-top
/yubikey-luks`, and that file is noticeably absent from `/conf/conf.d/`.
I saw that in bug 317442 (yes, old bug) that there may be situations
where this file might not be created.

Line 218 of `/scripts/local-top/cryptroot` is the ending of an if-fi
block, not clear yet what `fold` references.

Net-net, still digging.

So to resolve the issue, the default package (which is deprecated) must be

Should I simply install gnome-shell-extensions to resolve it? I'm not clear on

As installed from the disc, the issue is present so I'm unsure what I'm
