[Bug 1816205] Re: When using the Gedit icons they disappear from the desktop

2019-03-03 Thread Edson José dos Santos
Hello guys

Attaching small video showing that when you click save in gedit, the
icons on the desktop disappear and when you click save again the icons
reappear.

Sorry for the bad quality of the video, but the to see the icons
disappear and after they return to the desktop.

*

[Bug 1814095] Re: bnxt_en_po: TX timed out triggering Netdev Watchdog Timer

2019-03-03 Thread Nivedita Singhvi
Terry,

We've had a lot of discussion over this bug. It does not have
a reliable reproducer, and I have not yet received any acks
on testing of the above.

Our thinking was that it was still better to patch it since
it has been seen by the mainline driver as well and we'd like
to avoid a re-occurrence of the situation.

The need is to have the fix be available in the Xenial official
bits, for sure (rather than providing a temporary test kernel
via our ppa or something, for instance).

FWIW, here are the boards in question:
enum board_idx {
BCM57301,
BCM57417_NPAR,
BCM58700,
BCM57311,
BCM57312,
BCM57402,
BCM57402_NPAR,
BCM57407,
BCM57412,
BCM57414,
BCM57416,
BCM57417,
BCM57412_NPAR,
BCM57314,
BCM57417_SFP,
BCM57416_SFP,
BCM57404_NPAR,
BCM57406_NPAR,
BCM57407_SFP,
BCM57407_NPAR,
BCM57414_NPAR,
BCM57416_NPAR,
BCM57452,
BCM57454,
NETXTREME_E_VF,
NETXTREME_C_VF,
};

Per conversation with Brad and Jay, it was agreed that patching
the bnxt_en_bpo driver only with this fix was the way to go,
despite the lack of a reproducer, rather than pulling in an
entire new driver from Broadcom as also potentially mulled over.

The FW version the issue was hit on:
firmware-version: 20.8.163/1.8.4 pkg 20.08.04.03

But it might be best to test with latest available
firmware (214.0.166/1.9.2 pkg 21.40.16.6 or later).

Not sure if that helps? Let me know if I can address anything
else.

Re: [Bug 1787743] Re: Slow USB mouse input on linux-lowlatency

2019-03-03 Thread Jeb E.
Bug still occurs on my systems as well, all up-to-date using the standard
upgrade channels on 18.10.

When the mouse input isn't slow, the mouse input skips around a bit
instead. For example, when dragging and dropping an item in any program
(whether it's GIMP, Nautilus, etc.), the computer "let's go" of the
left-click button and stops moving only momentarily enough for the item to
drop in the same point where my mouse 'lost connection.'

Occurs when using a variety of different system mice.

[Bug 1572493] Re: pulseaudio 8.0 drops connections after playing audio in a firejail

2019-03-03 Thread Steve Dodd
I'm seeing this in a slightly different situation .. I'm running an xpra
server which starts its own pulseaudio server; something to do with
running Chrome and attempting to play video randomly results in
everything in /dev/shm getting deleted, which leads the shm errors
reported above.

I made sure to set RemoveIPC=no in /etc/systemd/logind.conf, but systemd
does not seem to be the culprit. I've tried using auditd to see what is
wiping the files, but nothing is showing.

Did anyone ever make any headway with this?

[Bug 1818433] [NEW] Offer upgrade presets to latest Ubuntu releases (16.04.xx LTS, 18.04.xx LTS, and 18.10) to Ubuntu 14.04.xx LTS users before 14.04.xx LTS EOL date

2019-03-03 Thread Jeb E.
Public bug reported:

With Ubuntu 14.04.xx LTS approaching EOL (End-of-Life) very soon in April 2019,
any users still on the 14.04.xx LTS release(s) are going to be given a choice
to either upgrade along the standard upgrade ring (to the next chronological
LTS release or to the next standard Ubuntu release, and so forth) or lose
update support from Canonical.
This bug is not to present that current upgrade philosophy as a problem, but
rather to offer users more choice -- power -- on top of what current upgrade
channels and philosophies are currently offering.

-
My bug goes as such...

Problem: Users still on the 14.04.xx LTS release(s) are not given choice
to upgrade to a newer LTS release than 16.04.xx LTS or standard release
than 14.10.xx unless upgraded in a step-ladder fashion using the tools
provided on each release, per-each release.

Solution: Offer upgrade presets to latest Ubuntu releases (16.04.xx LTS,
18.04.xx LTS, and 18.10) to Ubuntu 14.04.xx LTS users before 14.04.xx
LTS EOL date.**

**If it is not possible to upgrade from the user's current release
(14.04.xx LTS in this case) to the release of choice (let's use 18.10 in
this case) in one step, the upgrade tool could trigger an automated BASH
chain to upgrade the system in a step-ladder approach between restarts
(not unlike how Windows 10 upgrades it's OS).

** Affects: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Confirmed

[Bug 1818134] Re: modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'wl': Package not installed ubuntu14.04.5LTS kernel 3.13.0-165-generic

2019-03-03 Thread Lurchman
I had a look at my Updates history in Ubuntu Software Centre for the
last couple of weeks to see if I could spot any "likely culprits", and I
see that on the 18th February the 'dkms' package got bumped from
2.2.0.3-1.1ubuntu5.14.04.9 to 2.2.0.3-1.1ubuntu5.14.04.10 and the 'shim-
signed' package got bumped from 1.33.1~14.0.4.3+13-0ubuntu2 to
1.33.1~14.0.4.4+13-0ubuntu2

I found https://askubuntu.com/questions/138284/how-to-downgrade-a
-package-via-apt-get and 'apt-cache policy dkms' tells me that only
versions 2.2.0.3-1.1ubuntu5.14.04.10 , 2.2.0.3-1.1ubuntu5.14.04.5 and
2.2.0.3-1.1ubuntu5 are available (not 2.2.0.3-1.1ubuntu5.14.04.9), so I
tried 'sudo aptitude install dkms=2.2.0.3-1.1ubuntu5.14.04.5` and got
the following output:

The following packages will be DOWNGRADED:
  dkms
0 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 downgraded, 0 to remove and 0 not

Need to get 65.4 kB of archives. After unpacking 3,072 B will be freed.

I then rebooted, and Wifi still wasn't working, so I did 'sudo apt-get purge
bcmwl-kernel-source && sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source' and the Wifi
device re-appeared in my Connections menu but said "device not ready" so I did
another reboot, and my Wifi is now working again! Hooray :-D

So there's obviously some strange "interaction" between bcmwl-kernel-
source, dkms and shim-signed ? I have no idea which package this bug
should be filed against / moved to.

2019-03-03 Thread Lurchman
I'm also seeing the same problem on a Dell XPS 13 9343 - Wifi is
suddenly non-functional, whereas it'd otherwise been working fine for
many years (I'm unsure exactly when the problem started, as I mostly use
my laptop via wired ethernet, but it's definitely broken within the last
couple of weeks).

I've tried booting the previous kernel 3.19.0-80-generic from the grub
boot menu, but that also results in non-functional wifi. I've included
(hopefully) relevant info below, but please let me know if there's
anything else I can do to help.

I'm not including the bottom of the call trace because it varies: the common
part does start from btrfs_qgroup_trace_extent_post and up however. The caller
of btrfs_qgroup_trace_extent_pos can be either
- btrfs_qgroup_trace_extent+0xee/0x110 [btrfs], or
- btrfs_add_delayed_tree_ref+0x1c6/0x1f0 [btrfs], or
- btrfs_add_delayed_data_ref+0x30a/0x340 [btrfs]

This happens on 4.15 (Ubuntu flavor), on 4.18 (Ubuntu flavor "HWE"),
4.20.13 (vanilla).

On 4.20.0 (vanilla) and 5.0-rc8 (vanilla), there is also a deadlock
under similar conditions, but the call trace of the deadlocked btrfs-
transaction kthread looks different:

  Tainted: P OE 4.20.0-042000-generic #201812232030

Other userspace threads are locked at the same time.

So we seem to be dealing with at least 2 different deadlock cases which
seem to happen with lots of subvolumes and/or snapshots, and quota
enabled. All of this disappears with quota disabled.

For the record, the main btrfs qgroups dev seems to have a lot of
pending changes / fixes coming around this, expected for 5.1 or 5.2.
Stay tuned...

I have disabled quota for now. I only enable it for a short period of
time when I need to get size information about my subvols and snapshots.

[Bug 1818427] [NEW] Problem changing video resolution

2019-03-03 Thread Simon Rodan
Public bug reported:

Actions:
Open Cheese
>From preferences change video resolution
Select video as recording mode (either using the button or from the menu)

Expected behavior:
Video resolution changes and new aspect ratio image is shown in Cheese monitor.

Observed behavior:
Cheese monitor is black with message "There was an error playing the video from
the webcam"
The webcam is not activated
All modes in menu are greyed.
Modes cannot be selected until cheese is closed

Workaround #1
Set both photo and video modes to the desired video resolution - both video and
photo resolution must be the same.
Quit Cheese
Reopen Cheese
New video resolution is selected

Workaround #2
Select video mode
Make a video recording
Now the video resolution can be changed independently of the photo resolution
NOTE that a recording must be made at the selected resolution every time before
it can be changed.

[Bug 1798363]

2019-03-03 Thread linesma
This bug is present on an Asus FX504G. It does not matter if one is
running Synaptics or libinput. The error message will eventually cause
the touchpad to stop operating completely. It will start working again
after a period of time. However, to have it operate again immediately, I
have to type: rmmod hid-multitouch && modprobe hid-multitouch in a root
terminal.

This is on Manjaro 18.03 running Gnome 3.30.2 with kernel:

[Bug 1818422] [NEW] Totem: DBus reports wrong .desktop file name

2019-03-03 Thread moma
Public bug reported:

Totem - MPRIS2 - DBus-interface:
My application is asking Totem (video player) various data via (MPRIS2)
DBus-interface.

When asking "DesktopEntry", totem return value "totem" (meaning totem.desktop).

That is probably wrong.

Ubuntu 19.10 has no "totem.desktop" file.
$ updatedb
$ locate totem.desktop

The right answer would be "org.gnome.Totem". That is
/usr/share/applications/org.gnome.Totem.desktop

Please see:
https://specifications.freedesktop.org/mpris-spec/latest/Media_Player.html#Property:Identity

Please fix it.

Kindly
  Moma Antero

[Bug 1760068] Re: Wrong resolution at unlock screen

2019-03-03 Thread spike speigel
In my instance (Xubuntu 18.10 with nvidia 415 from the graphics drivers
PPA) I was able to fix the lock screen resolution by using the
following:

Section "Files"
ModulePath "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/xorg"
ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules"
EndSection

My system has /usr/lib/nvidia, but no xorg directory located there.
Likewise, no nvidia/xorg directory path under /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu.
There was only xorg as listed above with my corresponding nvidia
modules.

This workaround does not fix the TTY screen resolution or the Xubuntu
boot/loading spash.

[Bug 1818406] [NEW] gnat-gps fails to launch built binaries

2019-03-03 Thread dhenry
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 18.10 (and also 19.04 daily of 2019-03-03), the GNAT
Programming Studio IDE (gnat-gps) fails to launch binaries built by a
project with the "Build & run" button in the menu bar.

The Messages view only outputs:

Uncaught exception in workflows:
TypeError: method-wrapper object is not an iterator

In GPS log file (~/.gps/log.txt), I can see:

[ACTIONS] Entering GPS.Kernel.Actions.Execute_Action:gps-kernel-actions.adb:466
Execute action Build & Run Number 1 1 times synchronous=FALSE (13:12:12.756)
[WORKFLOW] Unexpected exception in workflow: method-wrapper object is not an
iterator (13:12:12.764)
   [TESTSUITE.EXCEPTIONS] Uncaught exception in workflows:
_TESTSUITE.EXCEPTIONS_ TypeError: method-wrapper object is not an iterator
   _TESTSUITE.EXCEPTIONS_ (13:12:12.765)
[ACTIONS] Leaving GPS.Kernel.Actions.Execute_Action:gps-kernel-actions.adb:466
(13:12:12.766)

I get a similar error for "Build & Debug" button action.

Launching from menu "Build -> Run -> " works.
GPS binary downloaded from AdaCore also works fine.
gnat-gps in Ubuntu 18.04 works.

[Bug 1813600] Re: [RM] os-faults

2019-03-03 Thread Jeremy Bicha
I have subscribed ubuntu-archive since they are the ones that remove
packages.

Note that Debian used a different source package name (python-os-faults)
but it doesn't have any reverse dependencies in unstable either. LP:
#1791339

The os-faults tests are failing, which is holding back ansible in disco-
proposed.

[Bug 1818403] [NEW] cups-pdf ld.so: object 'libsets_pac.so' from /etc/ld.so.preload cannot be preloaded (cannot open shared object file)

2019-03-03 Thread Harald Braun
Public bug reported:

I'am using:

-Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS
-printer-driver-cups-pdf 3.0.1-5
-thunderbird 1:60.5.1+build2-0ubuntu0.18.04.1

No directory /usr/share/doc/cups-pdf

If I want to create a mail as Generic-Cups PDF-Printer under Thunderbird
60.5.1 (64-Bit), the error message "ld.so: object 'libsets_pac.so' from
/etc/ld.so.preload can not be preloaded (can not open shared object
file)" Appears in the printer selection menu after the entry Generic-
Cups-PDF-Printer.

What measures have I tried:
1. Search for file libesets_pac.so. I found it under /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu.
2. Open the file /etc/ld.so.preload as root and prefix the path with 1.. File
saved and service CUPS restarted.

Episode:
1. When first printing a Thunderbird mail after the service restarta in the
printer selection menu behind Generic Cups PDF Printer NO error message.
2. Each time you print a Thunderbird email, the
Error message again.

[Bug 1818400] [NEW] SR-IOV broken in HWE 4.18.0-15 generic

2019-03-03 Thread gijs van der velden
Public bug reported:

SR-IOV does not work in Ubuntu Server 18.04.2 LTS, once the HWE kernel
(4.18.0-15 generic x86_64)) has been installed.

Environment:
Windows Server 2019
Fresh Hyper-V generation 2 VM (configuration version 9.0)
SR-IOV enabled on the virtual switch (Intel I350-T2 physical network adapter)
SR-IOV enabled on the virtual network card of the VM

Steps to reproduce:
Install Ubuntu Server 18.04.2 LTS
Verify SR-IOV is enabled in the Networking tab of the Hyper-V manager

Install the latest HWE kernel:
sudo apt-get install --install-recommends linux-virtual-hwe-18.04
sudo apt install --install-recommends linux-tools-virtual-hwe-18.04
linux-cloud-tools-virtual-hwe-18.04

Reboot
Check SR-IOV status in the Networking tab of the Hyper-V manager. It will now
show status degraded (SR-IOV not operational)

[Bug 1818396] [NEW] libgdiplus.pc does not contain correct linking flag

2019-03-03 Thread voidvector
Public bug reported:

Current `libgdiplus.pc` is near empty. This is a file used in pkg-config
setups for generating compilation flags of downstream projects.

This cause compilation failure for setups with pkg-config. At minimum,
the .pc file should produce `-lgdiplus`, however it doesn't.

[Bug 1783298] Re: [SRU] AuthInfoRequired negotiate in cups 2.2.7 in Bionic does not work

2019-03-03 Thread Till Kamppeter
Thanks Esko for your investigations. I have uploaded and appropriately
patched CUPS package for Bionic now. As soon as it gets approved you
will be asked for testing here. Please do the testing then and give us
feedback whether it solves your problem, so that we can make the fix an
official update for Bionic.

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ If a print queue is set up with "auth-info-required=negotiate" because
+ the server requires authentication (for example Kerberos) the user is
+ asked for user name and password on every jon, insteaf of the
+ authentication working automatically. This worked correctly in 14.04 and
+ 16.04.
+
+ Also setting "AuthType Default" for "/" in cupsd.conf leads to be
+ prompted for a password on commands like "lpatat -a", even for root.
+ Works correctly in Xenial and Cosmic.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ Set up a queue pointing to a Kerberos-authenticated Windows server with
+ "lpadmin ... -o auth-info-required=negotiate ..." OR set "AuthType
+ Default" for "/" in cupsd.conf. When printing or running other commands
+ accessing your print queue you will get prompted for credentials. With
+ the fix the authentication will get automatic again.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ Low, as the fix are simple one-line corrections taken from upstream.
+
+ [Original report]

  Hi,

We have our printers configured to print to a Windows print server. In
Ubuntu 14.04 and 16.04 our setup works fine but in 18.04 our setup seems
to be acting more like AuthInfoRequired username, password i.e. it
prompts for a password when printing rather than using the available
  Kerberos credentials.

We are using an unaltered cupsd.conf file and are adding printers with
  the following command:

  lpadmin -p "printer" -D "Printer" -L "room" -v
  "smb://printers.cis.strath.ac.uk/printers" -o Media=A4 -o PageSize=A4 -o
  printer-error-policy=abort-job -o auth-info-required=negotiate -m "CIS
  /hp-officejet_pro_476_576_series-ps.ppd"

the smb backend has been linked to /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-
gnu/samba/smbspool_krb5_wrapper (I've added this the apparmor profile as
it's blocked by default) and the permissions on this file changed to 700
(owner root) as per manpage instructions.

When using lp -d printer /tmp/test.txt I get the following response:

  Password for myuid on localhost?

Typing my password gets the job accepted to the queue but it does spool
to the Windows Print Server and in the error_log file I can see

  D [24/Jul/2018:10:33:00 +0100] [Job 45] SMBSPOOL_KRB5 -
AUTH_INFO_REQUIRED=negotiate
  D [24/Jul/2018:10:33:00 +0100] [Job 45] SMBSPOOL_KRB5 - Started with uid=0
  D [24/Jul/2018:10:33:00 +0100] [Job 45] SMBSPOOL_KRB5 - AUTH_UID is not set

As I said earlier this all works perfectly on Xenial and Trusty.
(A similar AuthInfoRequired negotiate setup also works in cups 2.2.5 on MacOS
10.13)

Any ideas how to fix this?

  Thanks,

  Ian.

[Bug 1818395] [NEW] Please demote lightdm greeter recommends to suggests

2019-03-03 Thread Sean Davis
Public bug reported:

Please see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-
datetime/+bug/1754872/comments/25 for some background on this bug
report.

I'd like to request that the lightdm greeter Recommends...
unity-greeter | lightdm-greeter (virtual package) | lightdm-kde-greeter

be moved to Suggests. It seems the apt installation order causes unity-
greeter (and other unity components) to be installed along with lightdm-
gtk-greeter when installing the xubuntu-desktop task.

Since each of the lightdm greeters should depend on lightdm, I think
this change helps make greeter installation more explicit and should
prevent the installation of multiple greeters when only one is needed or
requested.

** Affects: lightdm (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1785272] [NEW] ufw and gufw out of order

2019-03-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hello,

the sudo ufw status command gives:

WARN: / is writable for everyone!
WARN: / is writable for the group!

and nothing else in the "flag" page of gufw. the "ufw" activity normally
appears here!

with "gufw" can not enable or disable "ufw".
for that I have to use sudo ufw cds and enable or disable or status ...

finally the comparison of the screen "gufw" with the result of the cdes
gives results totally reversed !!!

after complete désisntallation then reinstallation the result is always
the same. it is to understand nothing more.

i have two screenshots that highlight this malfunction but i do not know
how to attach them to this message ...

thanks for the help expected.

greetings.

Ray.

here is the result of the order: sudo systemctl status ufw.service

Re,

actually but the operation via the gufw interface gives weird results.
you can see the 2 screens images obtained thanks to the ufw cdes and the gufw
screen ...
here is the direct link for access to the shared folder:
https://app.box.com/s/3q29ca27oebk788xqxlbjy2z4vd6idl6
why say ufw is useless? faced with these problems I tried to install
"firestarter" without result ...
I think a firewall is a necessary evil nowadays. thank you.
