[Bug 1818711] Re: never kills dnsmasq servers
Currently (quite a while actually [3]) the ordering on shutdown is like this: libvirtd -> domain -> virt-guest-shutdown.target -> save-restore.service And as Steve mentioned "save-restore" is to allow to shutdown or save guest state - and that not only via the default libvirt-guests.service but if wanted also via other services, therefore the .target in [3]. As you assumed the KillMode [1] of libvirtd is explicitly set to NOT kill [2] processes as you'd want to start/restart domains (e.g. qemu processes) and networks (e.g. dnsmasq processes) independently and don't want to loose them only since you re-started (or even crashed) the libvirt daemon itself. Therefore you'd really not want a cgroup cleanup or anything like a signal handler in libvirtd that cleans up all childs - but nobody here asked for it anyway so we are fine. Lets discuss how we could clean it up better on shutdown. To only take action at the right time we'd need a way to differ between: - "libvirtd.service is stopping or restarting" - "the system is shutting down". That is already done to shutdown/save guests to preserve them in libvirt-guests.service which - before libvirtd is gone. If it does nothing or fails it is considered fine that later on that the systemd killing spree reaps what is left. To properly remove dnsmasq processes you'd want the equivalent of a "for each net do virsh net-destroy $net". That would need to be: - on system shutdown only - could use similar simple mechanisms like libvirt-guests.service - would need to be ordered to be on shutdown after libvirt-guests.service (so guests still have network when they shutdown/safe) #1 We could now make this part of libvirt-guests.service actions to do this - after cleaning up guests. Pro: - no new service in the jungle of dependencies Con: - other components might not assume it will reap networks - the name isn't indicating it will reap networks - purpose overloading of the already somewhat awkward libvirt-guests.service script #2 Or we could add another service that is very much like libvirt-guests.service maybe libvirt-network-shutdown.service - ordered to run on shutdown (would have no real start action) after libvirt-guests.service and to iterate cleaning up all currently active libvirtd networks. It would link to [3] and actually every other ordering the same way as libvirt-guests.service does. Pro: - cleaner separation of guest/network services - explicit ordering - ability to enable/disable service individually Con: - one more (albeit shutdown only oneshot) service Once we have had a pre-discussion on this here I could write something patch worthy for an initial RFC. I'd lean towards #2, but want to hear other opinions first. (i didn't see that on last box!) keyboard & mouse work perfectly (both mice work) suspend again.. waited, awoke again no issues (NO screensaver this time, but did I wake the same way - not sure) suspend again - waited, awoke again (greeted with screensaver on wake using power-button) with keyboard & mouse (both) working perfectly suspend again - waited, awoke again (power button & screensaver), keyboard & mouse perfect suspend again - waited, awoke again (power button, different screensaver), keyboard & mouse perfect. [Bug 1818778] [NEW] Python should be compiled with USDT/dtrace user-space probes
Public bug reported: Python3.6 and later support being compiled with USDT/dtrace user-space probes, this allows tools such as perf and BPF utilities (bpfcc-tools) to do runtime profiling and tracing of Python execution. Ubuntu should compile Python with this support to enable better debugging of Python applications in production. perf/bpf tools can be attached to running production processes without having to restart them under a debugger which may destroy the situation you are trying to observe. This would be particularly useful with OpenStack deployments for example. The current python3.6/python3.7/python3.8 packages do not build with this support, because it requires a build-dependency on systemtap-sdt- dev and the option --with-dtrace to be passed at compile time. systemtap-sdt-dev is not currently in main, however, it was previously approved for a MIR in Bug #1203590 - it seems the original packages this was required for (Source Package: ust) was demoted to universe at some point and the systemtap-sdt-dev dependency went with it. [Bug 1818547] Re: hid-sensor-hub spamming dmesg in 4.20
Would it be possible for you to do a kernel bisection? First, find the last good -rc kernel and the first bad -rc kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ Then, $ sudo apt build-dep linux $ git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git $ cd linux $ git bisect start $ git bisect good $(the good version you found) $ git bisect bad $(the bad version found) $ make localmodconfig $ make -j`nproc` deb-pkg Install the newly built kernel, then reboot with it. If the issue still happens, $ git bisect bad Otherwise, $ git bisect good Repeat to "make -j`nproc` deb-pkg" until you find the commit that causes the regression. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1818547 Title: hid-sensor-hub spamming dmesg in 4.20 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1818547/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
