problem seems to be related to an add-on PCI-E SATA card:

(rev 02)

When disks are connected to the card port -> panic, no disks connected -> no

[Bug 1821433] [NEW] On Lubuntu 19.04 K3b does nto add extension to save a file.

2019-03-22 Thread Lyn Perrine
Public bug reported:

To reproduce on lubuntu 19.04 open k3b start a data project insert a
disc and add projects to a file to save to burn later. I saved the file
with the file save dialog. The file and an extension will not be added
automatically but without it will not open in k3b without manaully
setting the program to open on the particular file. A workaround is to
manually add the extension after the file.

I expected to be able to open the file I saved in k3b in the file open dialog
in k3b. Since it has no extension it cannot be easily opened by users. It
cannot even open it in a file manager with the menu a right click in pcmanfm-qt
unless I manually add the program from the list of all programs in pcmanfm-qt.

[Bug 1819915] Re: s2disk freezes at saving image to disk (hibernation)

2019-03-22 Thread Matheus
Alright, today finally had some time and installed older kernels.
4.15.0-42 , 4.15.0-44, 4.15.0-45 and on the last I had the same bug as
always. I installed the older linux images, with apt, and runed
initramfs:

# update-initramfs -k all -u

70d967e6-ad52-4c21-baf0-01a813ccc6ac is my real swap!

problem is, with the other two kernels I'm not able to boot up. I get
stuck on this screen: http://imgur.com/gallery/kLPMFhg

I'm sure that on those kernels I didn't have the issue!

Waited, hit ctrl+c, the tty worked (switchign with ctrl+alt+F2). But
there was no connection, ifconfig didn't show either my eth0 or
wlan0 well that was very buggy... and i was thinking on reinstalling
the nvidia kernels from there since it could be just a graphical glitch.
No clue how to test older kernels on ubuntu.

Also noticed that this 2gb thing I said is not totally right. Seems like
it's more likely it will happen if 2gb was used, but I still had the
problem randomly just after a boot and not even logged into a DE, just
from tty...

2019-03-22 Thread Kevin Torkelson
Hello!

I've been having these crashes on two laptops nearly every reboot. I
installed plymouth 0.9.3-1ubuntu10.1 from the -proposed repository on a
fairly recently installed version 18.10 (cosmic) which contains no other
proposed updates. So far, after rebooting many times, I'm happy to
report that I am not seeing the error.

Thanks to everyone who has been looking into this.

Kevin

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. I have uploaded a package into disco-proposed with the
fix. Meanwhile the uploads to bionic-proposed and cosmic-proposed are
waiting for approval, a bot will add a notice when they get approved.

Since it is late and approval requires manual intervention by an admin
we might only get someone to look this over on Monday.

[Bug 1821426] [NEW] Ubuntu 19.14 disco will not boot on Dell Precision5530

2019-03-22 Thread Matthew General
Public bug reported:

I'm uncertain which package is causing the problem, though I strongly
suspect it may be nvidia related.

This laptop runs 18.10 just fine, but attempting to boot 19.04 from a
USB disk (tried multiple USB boot disks) results in a blank screen after
Grub. The video will go between black with back light and black without
back light. I cannot switch to a TTY, I cannot get further, keyboard
seems to respond (lights up when keys are pressed).

Additionally, when trying to upgrade from 18.10 the same result happens.
After running the upgrade and rebooting, I cannot get it to boot unless
I first start in recovery mode from grub. After that I can get to the
desktop (nouveau driver seems to be installed by default). Any attempt
to boot normally results in a black screen. Attempting to switch to
proprietary nvidia driver results in never getting the luks screen
(encrypted disk). I get no luks screen when booting normally either.

Well, if you dont want to use the workaround, I am sorry.

Thunar does not have such a feature currently.

I reopened an old request for this feature and will close this one as duplicate.

Well, then why was the 'changes the emblem' section of the folder added if this
section does not work at all? How did you start working on it, yes?

[Bug 1577170] Re: screen cannot be turned back on after being switched off after some time of inactivity

2019-03-22 Thread Hark
This bug is still existing on Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS. Is there a plan to
push the fix to 16.04?

(In reply to Lars Viklund from comment #572)
> (You people should be happy you're not running FreeBSD, there I can

Looks like they've addressed Ryzen errata issues around August 2018:

https://github.com/freebsd/freebsd/blob/75ee4f08d3acd4bf70f24b3203fa440255873973/sys/amd64/amd64/initcpu.c#L133

Also, they've made machdep.idle=hlt and machdep.idle_mwait=0 default for
Ryzen processors.

I've additionally checked the registers mentioned in FresBSD's source.
Latest BIOS 4406 (w/ AGESA 0070) for my ASUS A320M-K seems to apply
fixes for all affected errata.

Eventhough I can't reliably reproduce the stability issues anymore, I
think it's still good practice to have Boris' patch applied, since it's
addresses a known erratum. I'll test the patch and check for
regressions.

I'm sorry, I don't currently suffer from any significant hangs on my
machines when running stock Ubuntu 18.04.02 LTS (4.15.0-43-generic).

I mostly meant #570 to demonstrate that some firmware does indeed
implement the errata.

While I've had core hangs and hard freezes in the past, the machine has
enough workarounds applied to make it sufficiently stable. Current
uptime is something like 81 days since the last incident and I can
honestly not remember what it did then, but it's been used heavily as a
build machine.

>From my memory: sufficiently RMA:d CPUs, slight overclocking, change the
current idle setting in firmware, boot idle=nomwait.

Back when I had significant problems, the best way to mitigate them was
to disable SMT.

It's possible that my increased stability has come from firmware
implementing this errata, or it might be coincidental, I don't have
enough data to tell.

(You people should be happy you're not running FreeBSD, there I can
reasonably reliably hang Ryzens within hours by sending ZFS snapshots :D
)

If this is correct:

http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Zen/AMD-Ryzen%205%202400G.html

then you should have in /proc/cpuninfo something like this:

cpu family: 23
model: 17
stepping: 0

and if so, not affected.

2019-03-22 Thread hexawolfie
I'm actually desperate about this issue. I'm looking forward to see
results of Boris' patch, though I really doubt it will solve this issue.
Needs explicit check against self-built kernel really.

Not all manufacturers are willing to fix this issue (especially when it
comes to laptops), as Windows seems to fix this inside it's kernel since
1709 I believe. I've made a post on HP forum about this, specifically
for my laptop:

[Bug 1821422] [NEW] Unable to reinstall Ubuntu. Want to downgrade to 18.04.2

2019-03-22 Thread Eric Dylan Hensler
Public bug reported:

My OS seems to be, for lack of a better way of putting it,
"disintegrating." Every ten minutes, something else "fails." I am
trying to do a clean install of 18.04.2, despite the fact that I was
running 18.10, but I cannot get my system to boot from USB and I do not
have blank DVDs to make a bootable one. I have tried F12, F10, F2 and
every combination thereof over the last several hours and, occasionally
I get a long flurry of tiny white print on a black screen with the word
"failed" appearing frequently but it's too fast for me to read. When it
comes to a stop, it is prompting me to enter my p/w. When I do, the
system boots more or less as normal. However, when I try to update or
upgrade I get a message that some file or other is "badly corrupted" or
something like that and I must use the RESUME something to get it to do
something or other. I have only been only Linux for less than 2 weeks
and I haven't the faintest idea what is going on. I really need help. I
have backed up everything and just want to completely reinstall from the
ground up but cannot.

[Bug 1818648] Please test proposed package

2019-03-22 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Michael, or anyone else affected,

Accepted snapd into xenial-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/snapd/2.38 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-xenial to verification-done-xenial. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-xenial. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1821407]

2019-03-22 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Since the package referred to in this bug is in universe or
multiverse, it is community maintained. If you are able, I suggest
coordinating with upstream and posting a debdiff for this issue. When a
debdiff is available, members of the security team will review it and
publish the package. See the following link for more information:

[Bug 1821407] Re: Security vulnerabilities in Putty prior to 0.71

2019-03-22 Thread Seth Arnold
The launchpad cve integration was a nice idea but never really grew into
anything.

The Ubuntu security team tracks CVEs through a different database, eg:

https://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-
security/cve/2019/CVE-2019-9898.html

You can see the CVEs that we know about for Putty via:

https://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-security/cve/pkg/putty.html

If you're in a position to prepare updates for universe, please take
into account all the known CVEs, not just the most recent ones.

Thanks

Thanks to all. I removed a bunch of packages related to ROS and managed to
perform the update. Some issues linked to deep system level changes. 18.04
has more than one way of going a few things, and which one is used depends
on history, server or desktop release ...

[Bug 1821103] Re: [SRU] Skip sending email when no package had to be installed, upgraded or removed

2019-03-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package unattended-upgrades - 1.10ubuntu2

---
unattended-upgrades (1.10ubuntu2) disco; urgency=medium

  * Compare apt.package.Version objects and not the versions' string
representation. (LP: #1820888)
This prevented adjusting candidates when the strings sorted differently.
Also extend tests to catch issue.
  * Fall back to adjusting more packages' candidates
when a package from an allowed origin can't be marked to install/upgrade.
(LP: #1821101)
  * Skip sending email when no package had to be installed, upgraded or removed
(LP: #1821103) (Closes: #924554)

[Bug 1820279] Re: [FFe] build mellon with --enable-diagnostics to ease up SSO debugging

2019-03-22 Thread Dmitrii Shcherbakov
** Description changed:

  [Rationale]
This change to mod_auth_mellon adds a very useful capability for enabling
diagnostics output from the module:

https://github.com/Uninett/mod_auth_mellon/commit/e8579f6387d9841ce619d836110050fb18117753

It is available as of v0.14.0 (present in Cosmic):

  v0.14.0
  v0.14.1

This is generally useful for field engineering and operations teams and
other users as SAML exchanges are difficult to debug.

[Bug 942856] Re: NetworkManager does not support AES-encrypted private keys for WPA 802.1x authentication

2019-03-22 Thread Till Kamppeter
The SRU bug 1809132 has the same proposed package as this one and it got
marked verified after three months without complaints and also after
some testing by me and in agreement with Ken VanDine, Will Cooke,
Olivier Tilloy.

So at least the new network-manager version should not cause any
regressions.

So I mark this bug as verified, too and remove the removal-candidate
tag.

Feel free to mark this bug as duplicate of bug 1809132 or as Invalid,
but please DO NOT remove the network-manager 1.10.14-0ubuntu1 package as
it is already a verified SRU for bug 1809132.

[Bug 942856] Re: NetworkManager does not support AES-encrypted private keys for WPA 802.1x authentication

2019-03-22 Thread Till Kamppeter
By the way, if there is one SRU package to fix several separately
reported bugs, each of these bugs should link to the others, so that a
single bug cannot cause the removal of the SRU even if it gets verified
in the other bugs. Or the SRU package needs one "master bug" where the
verification gets handled.
