[Bug 1824584] [NEW] Libhandy: HdyLeaflet window misbehaves in some situations

2019-04-12 Thread moma
Public bug reported:

Re-hello all,

Look, I can see a small malfuction (bug) both in the handy-demo and in
my own test application.

The HdyLeaflet window misbehaves if the window has a certain size (or edging
close to that size).
Please take a look this screencapture clip: “Screencast 2019-04-12
21:25:05.mp4” on
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1JfCzZPPKvtT13bIwu-dgqvKD_zwDySnt

When the window goes berserk, there is no way to make it sane again. Its
internal state stays in imbalance. Sometimes it starts to fire the
notify_fold_cb() callback constantly.
One has to exit the app.

This is a small issue, but may cause trouble.
Version of my libhandy is 0.0.9-1.

$ apt-cache show libhandy-0.0-dev
Package: libhandy-0.0-dev
Architecture: amd64, Ubuntu 19.04.

[Bug 1824523] Re: Assertion error during iso build

2019-04-12 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
I think it is racy to assert things about getppid

getppid() returns the process ID of the parent of the calling process.
This will be either the ID of the process that created this process us‐
ing fork(), or, if that process has already terminated, the ID of the
process to which this process has been reparented (either init(1) or a
"subreaper" process defined via the prctl(2) PR_SET_CHILD_SUBREAPER op‐
   eration).

As processes get reparented, the getppid will not match status.

I also do not understand the point of testing getppid() implementation.
Since getppid() is actually never used. The only code path that is used
is reading /proc/*/status files and parsing those.

the /proc/*/status parsing is used to determine whether or not to show
UA output. When we fail to determine if we should show the output or
not, we should not be crashing the whole transaction (and subiquity in
this case).

A crashing hook, shouldn't crash apt return codes...

Please remove this selftest from production code:
   // Self testing
   if (access("/proc/self/status", R_OK) == 0) {
  std::string ppid;
  strprintf(ppid, "%d", getppid());
  assert(ppid == getppid_of("self"));
   }

As it will always crash apt, when it gets reparented.

Note this is the new code, as in it's now asserting in hook.cc:184 which

I wonder if these things are racy or something.

At the moment, this fails whilst trying to install the kernel, when

[Bug 1690085]

2019-04-12 Thread z.wood23
I haven't had the chance to get through the whole thread yet and not
sure if I'll have enough time today. However, I wanted to quickly ask if
anyone has faced this issue with an Intel processor?

We are seeing kernel panics due to the soft lockup issue with the
following configuration:

CPU Architecture: Intel Skylake or Higher
vCPUs: 8
RAM: 52 GB
Kernel: 4.15.0
OS: Ubuntu 16.04.1

For some additional information, this setup does leverage Nested VMX to
run Docker containers with the --privileged option enabled.

The soft lockups seems to occur at a rate of varying from 1-5% of our
VMs getting impacted in a 24-hour period running in this configuration.

The load on the cluster does not seem to impact the frequency of the
issue.

One thing I did notice is that it seems most/all of the kernel panics
have had been involved with a call to smp_call_function_single.

Since I have not made it far enough through this thread, I'm not sure if
the focus on this is exclusively on AMD, or if anyone else had an Intel
example?

Is there a fix in the pipe for this issue and if so, a target kernel
version?

[Bug 1776563]

2019-04-12 Thread erikjohansson
I just tested battery time in windows, with full brightness as i had in
previous tests and i was able to get about 15 extra minutes from windows 10, my
guess is that's because windows forced a power save mode when there was under
20% left of the battery charge.
There was no compilation in windows.
I didn't see any major difference but i didn't test settings for maximum
battery uptime on any of the OS tested.
I used "ondemand" in linux as it was default setting and also default in
windows with the only change being full brightness.
I will try different brightness settings in linux to see how it affects battery
uptime.
I don't see anything pointing to an battery drainage problem.

@Kai-Heng Feng is that v15 of the patch series?
Will it be compiled into the kernel or as a module?

[Bug 1824583] [NEW] gnome-calendar uses default Adwaita theme when using Yaru-Dark theme

2019-04-12 Thread Adnan Hodzic
Public bug reported:

When I set to use "Yaru-dark" theme for applications (Gnome-Tweaks >
Appearance > Themes) gnome-calendar will use default Adwaita GTK+ theme,
i.e: see attachment.

If I switch back to default Ubuntu 19.04 theme "Yaru", then gnome-
calendar will use this theme and not Adwaita.

Please let me know if you need any additional information.

Thanks,

Adnan

[Bug 1820760] Re: Teclast F6 Pro touchpad not recognized Ubuntu 18.04.2

2019-04-12 Thread Simone Pernice
Dear Po-Hsu Lin,

First of all thank you for your work, which I appreciate a lot. With the
new kernel the touchpad works.

That is the only message I see about the I2C SYNA3602:

4.18.0-18-generic

[4.219209] i2c_hid i2c-SYNA3602:00: i2c-SYNA3602:00 supply vdd not
found, using dummy regulator

The touchpad works fine (also two finger gesture is recognized).

The following messages are what I got with the original Ubuntu kernel
(today, just before installing your patched version):

4.18.0-16-generic

[4.121498] i2c_hid i2c-SYNA3602:00: i2c-SYNA3602:00 supply vdd not found,
using dummy regulator
[4.126254] i2c_hid i2c-SYNA3602:00: unexpected HID descriptor bcdVersion
(0x)

It would be very helpful if you could add that patch to the official
Ubuntu Linux so that everybody with Teclast laptop can benefit from your
great job.

Thank you very much,
Simone

[Bug 1821820] Re: Cannot boot or install - have to use nomodeset

2019-04-12 Thread Robert Strube
Doh, sorry that's what I meant to say, disco proposed.

I guess my main concern is that the release ISO for 19.04 contains this
fixed kernel. If not, users would have to boot with nomodeset, install,
then update to the fixed kernel which might be a hurdle for some folks.

[Bug 1824575] [NEW] Can't boot Thinkpad T540 it's on docking station

2019-04-12 Thread Carlton Davis
Public bug reported:

The laptop boots without any issue when it is not connected to the
docking station. However when it's connected to the docking and I try to
boot it, I get a black screen shortly after the Kubuntu icon shows
during the booting process.

To boot the laptop, I have to disconnect it from the docking station,
boot it up and log on, then I can connect it to the docking station.

Similar bug has been reported for Fedora, here:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1527669
Rebasing Fedora 28 to Kernel 4.20.5-100 solved the problem for them. similar
problem has also been reported here:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1549169

The problem appears to exist for any version of Thinkpad laptop that is
connected to a docking station.

Any help to resolve this problem will be much appreciated.

  cb3d6759a93c6d0aea1c10deb6d00e111c29c19c powerpc/64s: Enable barrier_nospec

This failed because debugfs was already included, I can see that previously
added, I didn't see where it was previously removed.

  06d0bbc6d0f56dacac3a79900e9a9a0d5972d818 powerpc/asm: Add a patch_site macro
& helpers for patching instructions
This failed because 8183d99f4a22c is not included - but doesn't seem
necessary.

All other patches applied with, at most, some fuzz.

Has had a little testing - boots, check debugfs, etc.

[Bug 1824530] [NEW] Heap Buffer Overflow in UzpPassword

2019-04-12 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

You have been subscribed to a public security bug by Mike Salvatore
(mikesalvatore):

Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS
Release:18.04
Codename: bionic

unzip:
  Installed: 6.0-21ubuntu1
  Candidate: 6.0-21ubuntu1

The current version of unzip will crash with a heap overflow. I have
attached crash.zip to reproduce the issue. Normal unpacking or testing
the archive with -t argument is enough to trigger the bug. This is the
only place that I have reported the issue to.

Re: [Bug 1781016] Re: Slow flood of do_IRQ: No irq for vector

2019-04-12 Thread Robert Andrews
Confirmed on my system as well. . .

Even though /etc/default/apcupsd  ISCONFIGURED=no  I was getting the
do_IRQ: 6.34 No irq handler for vector message continuously.

After commenting out the "DEVICE /dev/ttyS0" and restarting the apcupsd
service the no irq error has stopped.

Thankyou for this find

+ very low, as no actual code changes are involved; only debian/ content

+ lists, and adding isolation-container requirement to the smoke test.
+ All have been cherry-picked from debian.
+
+ Any regressions would almost certainly result only in failed tests

  [other info]

this has been failing for quite a while now. it is failing only for
- bionic and cosmic; disco has corrected it.
+ bionic and cosmic; disco has corrected it. The problem is that debian
+ removed the mariadb-test packages from 10.1 because they added 10.2,
+ which also provided the packages into the same namespace (the binaries
+ don't have the -10.1 suffix). However, we don't provide 10.2 in bionic
+ or cosmic, and removing the 10.1 tests only results in 1) no upstream
+ tests being runnable and 2) since we didn't remove the mariadb-test
+ depends in debian/tests/control, it results in failed autopkgtests every
+ time.

- There is also a more serious matter, that bionic has continued to get
- mariadb-10.1 updates, while cosmic has not. So the bionic version is

No segfault when run
$ obabel in.mol2 -O out.mol2 --partialcharge eem
$ obabel -:"C" -O out.mol2 --gen3D --partialcharge eem

What happens instead

Execution of
$ obabel in.mol2 -O out.mol2 --partialcharge eem
causes
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
while other supported --partialcharge methods work fine.
Such behaviour doesn't depend on input file (which is actually correct); you
may reproduce it by
$ obabel -:"C" -O out.mol2 --gen3D --partialcharge eem
Bug occurs in openbabel v2.3.2 in different versions of Ubuntu (tested on 3
different PCs).

According to gdb output (below), the error is hidden somewhere in
OpenBabel::EEMCharges::_luSolve method. But the only difference of _this
method' code_ with the current version from github seems insufficient
and behave the same

[Bug 1822870] Re: Backport support for software count cache flush Spectre v2 mitigation. (CVE) (required for POWER9 DD2.3)

2019-04-12 Thread Manoj Iyer
** Description changed:

+ [IMPACT]
+ Need to further address the Spectre v2 and Meltdown vulnerability in Power
with software count cache flush Spectre v2 mitigation support for Power9 DD2.3,
and additional Spectre/Meltdown related patches for Power9.
+
+ [Fix]
+ List of upstream patches identified by IBM in comment #4, #5, and #8.
+
+ [Test]
+ A test kernel is available in PPA ppa:ubuntu-power-triage/lp1822870 and the
kernel was tested by IBM. Please see comment #11 and #14 for details.
+
+ [REGRESSION POTENTIAL]
+ The patches are isolated to the ppc64el architecture and does not impact
generic code. ppc64el test kernel was tested by IBM and no regressions were
reported.
  For the different kernels:

- The HWE a563fd9c62f0 UBUNTU: Ubuntu-hwe-4.18.0-17.18~18.04.1 appears to

This appears to already be in -next.

For the bionic 18.04.1 (4.15) kernel only this patch is already part of
master-next:
  a6b3964ad71a61bb7c61d80a60bea7d42187b2eb powerpc/64s: Add barrier_nospec

The others are ported, there were only 3 that were not clean. Those are:

barrier_nospec patching
This failed because commit a048a07d7f4535baa4cbad6bc024f175317ab938 is
missing, but it does not look like that is required here.

  cb3d6759a93c6d0aea1c10deb6d00e111c29c19c powerpc/64s: Enable barrier_nospec
based on firmware settings
This failed because debugfs was already included, I can see that previously
added, I didn't see where it was previously removed.

  06d0bbc6d0f56dacac3a79900e9a9a0d5972d818 powerpc/asm: Add a patch_site macro
& helpers for patching instructions
This failed because 8183d99f4a22c is not included - but doesn't seem
necessary.

All other patches applied with, at most, some fuzz.

Has had a little testing - boots, check debugfs, etc.

+
  [Original Description]

  Bionic's radosgw package (Version 12.2.11-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 ) can't run
on Bionic, because the version of civetweb in Luminous is incompatible
  with libssl1.1, but it's built against libssl1.1.

This has been known about upstream for a while now, and as noted in the
bug-tracker (https://tracker.ceph.com/issues/20696), it can be fixed by
building Luminous in an environment that has only libssl1.0 available
(or, in a more invasive manner, by incorporating a newer civetweb). A
patch is in the tracker.ceph.com issue.

[Bug 1813464] Re: dist-upgrader tarball contains and uses an ancient version of invoke-rc.d

2019-04-12 Thread Brian Murray
The dist-upgrader tarball contains a copy of invoke-rc.d which it
patches so that errors are not fatal and the release upgrade can
proceed. Here's part of the patch as an example:

[Bug 1824423] Re: Bad java class file version for collectd java plugin

2019-04-12 Thread Eric Desrochers
Having a quick look at the build log of collectd for '5.7.2-2ubuntu1.1'.
Collectd has been build on top of openjdk-11-* found in bionic-proposed
'11.0.2+9-3ubuntu1~18.04.*'

# Build Log
Link:
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/416916001/buildlog_ubuntu-bionic-amd64.collectd_5.7.2-2ubuntu1.1_BUILDING.txt.gz
.
Get:163 http://ftpmaster.internal/ubuntu bionic-proposed/main amd64
openjdk-11-jre amd64 11.0.2+9-3ubuntu1~18.04.2 [34.4 kB]
Get:164 http://ftpmaster.internal/ubuntu bionic-proposed/main amd64 default-jre

amd64 2:1.11-68ubuntu1~18.04.1 [1092 B]

Since then a few iterations has been made most likely due to
regressions:

$ rmadison openjdk-11-jdk | grep -i bionic
 openjdk-11-jdk | 10.0.1+10-3ubuntu1 | bionic
 openjdk-11-jdk | 10.0.2+13-1ubuntu0.18.04.4 | bionic-security
 openjdk-11-jdk | 10.0.2+13-1ubuntu0.18.04.4 | bionic-updates
 openjdk-11-jdk | 11.0.2+9-3ubuntu1~18.04.3 | bionic-proposed

See the LP bug for the java transition:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/saaj/+bug/1814133

I haven't investigate further, but I suspect it just a matter to wait
for the #1814133 SRU to be completed, clear all regressions found and
moving from bionic-proposed to bionic-updates.

On 'Fix Released' let's re-evaluate if collectd need a rebuild or if
everything works fine.

[Bug 1824440] Re: snap.lxd.daemon.service reports unexpected response type 6

2019-04-12 Thread Stéphane Graber
Does this happen repeatedly?

It's a glitch in dqlite which we've seen happen pretty rarely and that
will go away with the complete rewrite of the database layer that's
meant to land in a few months.

Normally a simple "systemctl reload snap.lxd.daemon" or "snap restart
lxd" gets you rid of this.

We do have daily testing of the LXD snap on all architectures and have
only seen this show up once every few weeks so hasn't been worth the
effort to debug code that's going away.

If you have a system where this happens every time or have a clear step
by step reproducer which causes this to happen reliably, then we will
still look into it, otherwise, we'll likely close this.

Updated OpenVz6 kernel was released:
https://wiki.openvz.org/Download/kernel/rhel6/042stab134.7

We are very grateful for Ubuntu team for reverting of patches specially
for OpenVz.

For affected hosters: OpenVz6 is great but it is really old,
and similar incidents can happen again and again.
Please think about switch to RHEL7-based OpenVz7.

Which was released in November 2018. All your provider needs to do, is
to apply OpenVZ updates.

>From Ubuntu point of view this is a wontfix, as providing systemd
without using fchownat opens a security vulnerability CVE-2018-6954.

Please upgrde to OpenVZ kernel 042stab134.7 or anything better. I
believe currently the latest kernel is 042stab136.1.

@ddstreet please delete your packages from the PPA, as you are
intentially distributing security vulnerable systemd.

Regards,

Dimitri.

against an already compiled kernel. Appears to be a support question
more than anything, and per rules, marking as "Invalid."

[Bug 1824565] [NEW] I'm just trying to make my compouter more stable.

2019-04-12 Thread Jeff Woodman
Public bug reported:

My computer keeps changing. Sometimes my add ons on firefox are gone,
and I have many programs I do not want on MY computer! I have very
little control over my own property. Why can't I remove the programs I
do not want, like the games and all the log files and analyzers and
remote desktop crap I never downloaded.??? Microshaft does the same
thing that is why I switched to linux. Are there any lenox programs that
are private?

[Bug 1818814] Re: systemd-tmpfiles-setup.services fails to create /var/run directories

2019-04-12 Thread Dan Streetman
> This is something I (and quite many others) can't do anything, as the kernel
> is provided by OpenVZ

> This means, that the Xenial LTS has been broken :(

well...what you mean is that Xenial LTS is broken *when using a custom
kernel from OpenVZ*. The Xenial LTS isn't broken when using any kernel
provided by Ubuntu in the Xenial release. So, it's rather likely
someone else will come along and set this bug back to Invalid.

> I'm changing this status back to New, as there needs to be a way to support
> Xenial installations in OpenVZ environments

a way for who to support Xenial, OpenVZ? Sure, they could provide a
custom systemd package, that works with the custom kernel they provide.

Without a custom systemd package from OpenVZ, you have a couple options; you
can pin your systemd version to the last one before the change to use
fchownat(). You'll never get any more systemd upgrades for bugfixes, or
security issues, though. Alternately, you can maintain your own systemd
package with a patch to replace the fchownat() usage; I have a test build in
this ppa
https://launchpad.net/~ddstreet/+archive/ubuntu/lp1818814

The last patch listed in the debian/patches/series file is what reverts
the fchownat() back to a fchown().
