[Bug 1829634] Re: I have reinstalled Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and the problem is resolved
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1829634/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1827884] Re: Boot problems after upgrade to kernel 4.15.0-48 (18.04.2LTS/i386)
I have a Lenovo G500 (32 bit laptop about 5 years old). I am seeing the same behavior on my system. Booting 4.15.0-47-generic works fine, but both 4.15.0-48-generic and 4.15.0-50-generic usually hang at boot time. If I enter grub at boot and select 4.15.0-50-generic, it usually hangs at this: Loading Linux 4.15.0-50-generic ... Loading initial ramdisk ... If I let the system just boot up w/o going into grub I don't see the above. I usually either get a solid blank purple screen or a blank purple screen with a bar of random colored pixels across the middle of the screen. Now yesterday I was able to get 4.15.0-50-generic to boot all they way into the GUI after booting it from the grub menu and was able to use the system for the rest of the day, no problems. So it seems to be a startup only problem. When in the hung state, I can't get to the console screen via the usual Fn-Ctrl-Alt-F3. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1827884 Title: Boot problems after upgrade to kernel 4.15.0-48 (18.04.2LTS/i386) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1827884/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1829533] Re: Doubled desktop icons
As you will see from the attached screenshot, there are standard folder icons on the left. Those are the duplicates. They do not respond when clicked and cannot be dragged or auto-arranged. The ones that do work mostly have customized folder images. For example, there is: -- a standard folder "Chernobyl" that is a duplicate (doesn't work) -- a customized folder depicting an atom (clicks when opened) After I put the screenshot on the desktop, 2 icons appeared -- an "active" one, plus a duplicate which looks the same but also won't respond when clicked. [Bug 1825420] Re: package linux-image-5.0.0-13-generic 5.0.0-13.14 failed to install/upgrade: triggers looping, abandoned
So, 4 weeks later, after my previous comments, and now running stably: Upgraded to 5.0.0-15 today via command line with 'do-release-upgrade'. The triggers looping error still happens but this gets mopped up by dpkg --configure -a which the upgrade script autoruns for you. The 'system error detected' pop-up was still there but I was able to cure this via: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/spice/linux/vd_agent/commit/098268a33c7c8008ccec9050aea8f0763f1c06d5 '/var/run' is a symlink but errors still happen; just edit out the '/var' prefix for the PIDfile entry in /lib/systemd/system/spice- vdagent.service. I think this above is connected to the problems with virtual box too. Also edit the files /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/spice-vdagentd.conf & speech- despatcher.conf while you are there. See 'cat /var/log/syslog' and you will see similar errors main spice one that's detailed. VirtualBox itself upgraded without problem, as I was using the ubuntu packages this time. I just needed to editions, from file > prefs, to get get the machines to load up. Don't think this was of significance, but who knows,so I probably should mention another couple of fixes I did before the upgrade, based on syslog entries: This one here for OID file not found errors: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1102926/colord-errors-in-var-log-syslog- in-18-10 The other was commenting out 'max-height' and 'max-width' from gtk- widgets.css in /usr/share/themes/Ambiant-MATE/gtk-3.0. Annoying error that I have been meaning to sort out for a while now ... I have tested this all day. Run it through its paces. Still a few little grumbles showing in the syslog but nothing serious I tend to think. I am guessing things trying to launch before AppArmor will let them, that's all. [Bug 1829609] [NEW] files in sudoers.d no longer being read or honored
Public bug reported: Previously reported bug not ever assigned: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...e/+bug/1584549 Currently using KDEneon User Edition LTS 18.04 fully updated. No known entry format in /etc/sudoers.d/ appear to be read by sudoers any longer. All files under /etc/sudoers.d/ are permissions 0440 and root owned. visudo -c confirms the syntax passes the checks. Prior to last month, files in suoders.d were read and worked IF you used the FQDM and not the hostname (as should be allowed thus the prior bug report). Some update must have broken the usage. I have attempted the following formats in /etc/sudoers.d/apt; stuart office.smith.lan = (root) NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/apt- get,/usr/bin/apt,/usr/bin/add-apt-repository,/usr/bin/apt-add-repository stuart office = (root) NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/apt-get,/usr/bin/apt,/usr/bin /add-apt-repository,/usr/bin/apt-add-repository stuart office.smith.lan = (root) NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/apt-get stuart office.smith.lan = (root) NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/apt stuart office.smith.lan = (root) NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/add-apt-repository stuart office.smith.lan = (root) NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/apt-add-repository stuart ALL = (root) NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/apt-get,/usr/bin/apt,/usr/bin /add-apt-repository,/usr/bin/apt-add-repository ALL ALL= (root) NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/apt-get,/usr/bin/apt,/usr/bin/add- apt-repository,/usr/bin/apt-add-repository The first one above worked in 16.04. Sorry, but I am not sure I could tell the difference so I will try and describe it as best I can. There is no place to enter a password, but I also have my system set to automatically log in, so I'm not sure if it would ask me for a password if it was displayed. I do have to press a key to get past the screen. I have attached a picture of the screen. I was not able to do a screen capture as it would not let me with the screen displayed, so I used my phone's camera. I will also attached a screen capture showing my settings for choice of background and lock screen in the next comment as I can only attach one file per comment. [Bug 1798790] Re: Ubuntu login screen never appears when using the Nvidia driver (and setting WaylandEnable=false fixes it)
Workaround in #19 working for me so far on Ubuntu 19.04. Have done a reboot test and a powerup test so far. Something I noticed earlier when the machine was stuck is that the machine was able to get to the point where I could ssh to it after the GUI hadn't started. The command below did bring up the GUI for me: $ sudo systemctl restart gdm3 or even $ /etc/init.d/gdm3 restart Not a better workaround, but may save from rebooting while you make the change for #19. $ cat /etc/issue.net Ubuntu 19.04 $ uname -a Linux ubuntu-am 5.0.0-15-generic #16-Ubuntu SMP Mon May 6 17:41:33 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Here is my syslog, I do notice some activity from 'meta_kms_resources_init', mentioned in #19, in there.. This bug has just had a xenial bug task added to it, but the issue described here has been resolved for some time. [Bug 1829600] [NEW] Geary chrashes full wayland session
Public bug reported: Geary version: 0.12-dev Installation method: APT geary/bionic,now 0.12.0-1ubuntu1 amd64 [installed] Desktop: GNOME with Ubuntu Flavor (Wayland) Operating system and version: Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS Steps to reproduce: Open geary with at least one configured account and try to open the "About" dialog via panel menu as early as possible. The whole wayland session gets stuck and then to login screen appears. It works as expected if geary is idle This is not the only way to chrash the session via geary, but the one best to reproduce. I removed the package and installed the newer release via flatpak, where the menu items already moved from panel to app. The maintainer of this package should consider to update this package in the apt repository, at least for the current LTS release and later. ** Affects: geary (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1829600 Title: Geary chrashes full wayland session To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/geary/+bug/1829600/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
