[Bug 1811596] Re: Ubuntu Single Sign-On GUI not showing login button

2019-05-18 Thread Jeevan Jyothish
I had this problem last year and found a fix by asking here:

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1025923/ubuntu-18-04-unity-cant-login-
to-my-ubuntu-sso-account-from-unity-control-cen

But when I tried logging in on a new installation today, it worked
without enabling CSD. Maybe it got fixed? I'm using 18.04.2 now BTW

[Bug 1829634] Re: I have reinstalled Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and the problem is resolved

2019-05-18 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1829634/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

I installed some updates that were showing on my screen and after those
updates, my laptop freezes up after unplugging the power supply. I
cannot use hibernate or even suspend. I will attach the log message
containing the information needed. I can assure you that my battery is
fine, I booted my laptop without the power supply plugged in and
everything works just fine, I plugged it in and it's still going for now
until I unplug it again. This is all I can give you.

[Bug 1764643] Re: Logout after console use freezes GUI

2019-05-18 Thread Mike Weilgart
I have this bug (and some other related ones) on a Lenovo ThinkPad L540
running Ubuntu 18.04.2. I switched to using lightdm which works around
the issues, but I don't like lightdm as much.

I see it's marked "Fix Released" above; excuse the ignorant question,
but does this mean I will soon be able to solve this with "apt update"
and switch back to gdm and have it work?

If any crash reports would be helpful I could switch back to gdm to
provide them.

[Bug 1829631] [NEW] Upgrader shows "Forbidden" error in release notes window

2019-05-18 Thread Oliver Gerlich
Public bug reported:

I started a release upgrade from 16.04 to 18.04 as described in the
BionicBeaver Release Notes, ie. enabling update notifications and then running
"update-manager -c" and clicking the Upgrade button.
A window then appeared titled "Veröffentlichungshinweise" (German for Release
Notes) with an error message:

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access
/ubuntu/dists/bionic-updates/main/dist-upgrader-all/current/ReleaseAnnouncement.html
 on this server.
Apache/2.4.18 (Ubuntu) Server at archive.ubuntu.com Port 80

I cancelled the upgrade and restarted it, and ran Wireshark this time. It
showed that the URL
"http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/bionic-updates/main/dist-upgrader-all/current/ReleaseAnnouncement.html?lang%3Dde_DE%26os%3Dubuntu%26ver%3D18.04.2%20LTS;
was accessed which resulted in an HTTP 403 error response.
Opening that URL in Firefox indeed leads to such an error page. Opening the URL
without the parameters (ie. without the part after the question mark) leads to
actual release notes.

[Bug 1818356] Re: Please backport pdftk-java 3.0.2-2 (universe) from Disco

2019-05-18 Thread Dylan Aïssi
** Summary changed:

- [needs-packaging] pdftk-java needs packaging for 18.04.02
+ Please backport pdftk-java 3.0.2-2 (universe) from Disco

** Description changed:

- Related to Bug #Bug #1757314, where pdftk was removed due to deprecated
- dependencies in Debian, see (https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
- bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=892539).
+ Reason for the backport:
+
+
+ pdftk was removed from Debian and Ubuntu [1] due to the removal of one of its
build-dep: GCJ. It was replaced by a new source package: pdftk-java [2].
+ Unfortunately, pdftk-java was not ready in time for Bionic. So, Bionic is the
only Ubuntu release without any working pdftk package which is very annoying.
+
+ [1] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1757314
+ [2] https://bugs.debian.org/901370
+
+ Testing:
+
+ Mark off items in the checklist [X] as you test them, but please leave the
checklist so that backporters can quickly evaluate the state of testing.
+
+ * bionic:
+ [x] pdftk-java builds without modification
+ [x] pdftk-java installs cleanly and runs
+
+ No reverse dependencies (included on this request).
+
+ https://launchpad.net/~daissi/+archive/ubuntu/testing/
+
+ --
+ Related to Bug #Bug #1757314, where pdftk was removed due to deprecated
dependencies in Debian, see
(https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=892539).

Later Ubuntu releases (Cosmic, Bionic) have moved over to pdftk-java as
  Debian has started using pdftk-java.

Once pdftk-java packaged for 18.04.02 then Bug #1764450, request for
  pdftk being re-introduced.

[Bug 554172] Re: system services using "console output" not starting at boot

2019-05-18 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
FrankStefani, given the scope of this closed report was fixed in Ubuntu
10.10 (i.e. pre-dating your usage of 12.04), it had and has nothing to
do with your problem.

However, regarding the problem you are experiencing, it is most helpful if you
use the computer the problem is reproducible with and file a new report by
running the following from a terminal:
ubuntu-bug cups

Also, please feel free to subscribe me to it.

Unbelievable: After many years with Ubuntu-12.04 to 16.04, followed by
Linux Mint up to 19.3 (Ubuntu 18.04), I switched to a fresh new install
of Lubuntu-19.04 a week ago... and have this strange printer disappear
problem for the first time ever!

Today is May 18th, 2019 - that is over threet years(!!!) after the last
entry in this list.

How can that be? What's wrong?

My printing system for the last 12-15 years based on cups with the
following setup:

* 1 network laser printer
* 3 "symbolic" printers which are a copy of the former, to set defaults for
particular uses: "monoprinter" (grayscale), "colorprinter" (full color) and
"labelprinter" (use of manual feed)

[Bug 1829620] Re: cryptsetup stuck at loading initramfs

2019-05-18 Thread Mark
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected bionic wayland-session

** Description changed:

  Description:
  - my system gets stuck at "Booting, Loading initramfs" (the first 2 lines of
booting, after grub)
  - does not even show the enter cryptsetup passphrase
  - affected kernels:
  # apt list --installed |grep linux-signed
WARNING: apt does not have a stable CLI interface. Use with caution in
scripts.
  linux-signed-generic/bionic-security,bionic-updates,now 4.15.0.50.52 amd64

  linux-signed-generic-hwe-18.04-edge/bionic-security,bionic-updates,now
5.0.0.15.71 amd64 [installed]

  - the setup is not new, has been working perfectly before (about 7 days
  since my last restart?)

  System:
  - HW: ASUS Zenbook 14 UX433FN
  - Ubuntu 18.04, runing latest HWE, fully updated
  - grub(-pc), cryptsetup (crypttab entries for custom encrypted LUKS setup),

  Suspected/possible cause?:
  - recent intel-microcode package update
  - recent kernel package updates

  Steps taken:
  - tried to remove "splash quiet" from grub/kernel cmd line (also tried adding
nosplash, noplymouth)
  - completely removed nvidia drivers (apt purge *nvidia*)
  - completely purged and reinstalled grub (grup-pc)
  - completely purged and reinstalled all kernels (headers, modules, image, ..)
  - toggle BIOS "fastboot" (now using OFF)
  - toggle UEFI SecureBoot (now using ON)
  - remove plymoyth (apt remove *plymouth* , but the workaround is working with
plymouth installed)

  Workaround:
  - so far, I'm only able to boot with non-Ubuntu kernel!
(linux-image-liquorix-amd64)
  - which needs "splash" option ON

- I am not sure how to get you more debug info, as this setup has been
- working before, and it's a very eary boot-process bug, so I can't even
- access dmesg etc.

If, due to the nature of the issue you have encountered, you are unable to run
this command, please add a comment stating that fact and change the bug status
to 'Confirmed'.

I have ran and uploaded the output from apport-collect,
BUT this is not on an original ubuntu kernel, as the issue prevents me from
booting any of those.

[Bug 1827884] Re: Boot problems after upgrade to kernel 4.15.0-48 (18.04.2LTS/i386)

2019-05-18 Thread Jeff
I have a Lenovo G500 (32 bit laptop about 5 years old).

I am seeing the same behavior on my system. Booting 4.15.0-47-generic works
fine, but both
4.15.0-48-generic and 4.15.0-50-generic usually hang at boot time. If I enter
grub at boot and select 4.15.0-50-generic, it usually hangs at this:

Loading Linux 4.15.0-50-generic ...
Loading initial ramdisk ...

If I let the system just boot up w/o going into grub I don't see the
above. I usually either get a solid blank purple screen or a blank
purple screen with a bar of random colored pixels across the middle of
the screen.

Now yesterday I was able to get 4.15.0-50-generic to boot all they way
into the GUI after booting it from the grub menu and was able to use the
system for the rest of the day, no problems. So it seems to be a startup
only problem.

When in the hung state, I can't get to the console screen via the usual
Fn-Ctrl-Alt-F3.

[Bug 1829620] [NEW] cryptsetup stuck at loading initramfs

2019-05-18 Thread Mark
Public bug reported:

Description:
- my system gets stuck at "Booting, Loading initramfs" (the first 2 lines of
booting, after grub)
- does not even show the enter cryptsetup passphrase
- affected kernels:
# apt list --installed |grep linux-signed
WARNING: apt does not have a stable CLI interface. Use with caution in scripts.
linux-signed-generic/bionic-security,bionic-updates,now 4.15.0.50.52 amd64
[installed]
linux-signed-generic-hwe-18.04/bionic-security,bionic-updates,now 4.18.0.20.70
amd64 [installed]
linux-signed-generic-hwe-18.04-edge/bionic-security,bionic-updates,now
5.0.0.15.71 amd64 [installed]

- the setup is not new, has been working perfectly before (about 7 days
since my last restart?)

System:
- HW: ASUS Zenbook 14 UX433FN
- Ubuntu 18.04, runing latest HWE, fully updated
- grub(-pc), cryptsetup (crypttab entries for custom encrypted LUKS setup),

Suspected/possible cause?:
- recent intel-microcode package update
- recent kernel package updates

Steps taken:
- tried to remove "splash quiet" from grub/kernel cmd line (also tried adding
nosplash, noplymouth)
- completely removed nvidia drivers (apt purge *nvidia*)
- completely purged and reinstalled grub (grup-pc)
- completely purged and reinstalled all kernels (headers, modules, image, ..)
- toggle BIOS "fastboot" (now using OFF)
- toggle UEFI SecureBoot (now using ON)
- remove plymoyth (apt remove *plymouth* , but the workaround is working with
plymouth installed)

Workaround:
- so far, I'm only able to boot with non-Ubuntu kernel!
(linux-image-liquorix-amd64)
- which needs "splash" option ON

I am not sure how to get you more debug info, as this setup has been
working before, and it's a very eary boot-process bug, so I can't even
access dmesg etc.

[Bug 1829621] [NEW] No sound after suspend

2019-05-18 Thread Robin
Public bug reported:

On my Laptop sound is working only after a fresh reboot. Every time I
suspend the laptop, I can no longer use the internal speakers or any
headphones. I tried a lot of solutions suggested online none of them
working for me. Since this problem is very annoying I would really
appreciate if a fix would be available.

Thanks a lot :)

Description of problem:

I bought new wireless keyboard for my Lenovo laptop (T470s) with mouse.
The mouse works, but the keyboard doesn't. Only keys "super" and "alt"
react on the keyboard. It is really pity, because i would like to use
it.

Strange is that the keyboard works in bios and in grub. Same problem I

--- Additional comment from Laura Abbott on 2018-02-20 15:00:09 EST ---

We apologize for the inconvenience. There is a large number of bugs to go
through and several of them have gone stale. As kernel maintainers, we try to
keep up with bugzilla but due the rate at which the upstream kernel project
moves, bugs may be fixed without any indication to us. Due to this, we are
doing a mass bug update across all of the Fedora 27 kernel bugs.

Fedora 27 has now been rebased to 4.15.3-300.f27. Please test this kernel
update (or newer) and let us know if you issue has been resolved or if it is
still present with the newer kernel.

If you experience different issues, please open a new bug report for those.

Same problem with Lenovo keyboard and mouse combos (4X30M39472 and
4X30H56809).

The issue is still present in kernel version 4.15.3-300.fc27.

Maybe the information on this page can help.
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/377830/linux-hid-driver-for-primax-wireless-keyboards/377873#377873

I also found a bugzilla entry on kernel.org that seems to handle the
same problem (https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=197787).

[Bug 1829611] Re: tomcat cannot create the index directory for solr on startup

2019-05-18 Thread Hasse Hagen Johansen
I found the error the systemd override snippet the solr-tomcat package
provides is placed in a wrongly named directory
/etc/systemd/system/tomcat9.d it should be in
/etc/systemd/system/tomcat9.service.d for systemd to pick it up

so

/etc/systemd/system/tomcat9.d/solr-permissions.conf should be

/etc/systemd/system/tomcat9.service.d/solr-permissions.conf

I have provided a patch to the source package(hope it is the right way
or please tell me)

[Bug 1829533] Re: Doubled desktop icons

2019-05-18 Thread Charles B Kramer
As you will see from the attached screenshot, there are standard folder
icons on the left. Those are the duplicates. They do not respond when
clicked and cannot be dragged or auto-arranged.

The ones that do work mostly have customized folder images. For
example, there is:

-- a standard folder "Chernobyl" that is a duplicate (doesn't work)

-- a customized folder depicting an atom (clicks when opened)

After I put the screenshot on the desktop, 2 icons appeared -- an
"active" one, plus a duplicate which looks the same but also won't
respond when clicked.

You attention to this is very appreciated!

[Bug 1825420] Re: package linux-image-5.0.0-13-generic 5.0.0-13.14 failed to install/upgrade: triggers looping, abandoned

2019-05-18 Thread TuxVinyards
So, 4 weeks later, after my previous comments, and now running stably:

Upgraded to 5.0.0-15 today via command line with 'do-release-upgrade'.
The triggers looping error still happens but this gets mopped up by
dpkg --configure -a which the upgrade script autoruns for you.

The 'system error detected' pop-up was still there but I was able to
cure this via:

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/spice/linux/vd_agent/commit/098268a33c7c8008ccec9050aea8f0763f1c06d5

'/var/run' is a symlink but errors still happen; just edit out the
'/var' prefix for the PIDfile entry in /lib/systemd/system/spice-
vdagent.service.

I think this above is connected to the problems with virtual box too.
Also edit the files /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/spice-vdagentd.conf & speech-
despatcher.conf while you are there. See 'cat /var/log/syslog' and you
will see similar errors main spice one that's detailed.

VirtualBox itself upgraded without problem, as I was using the ubuntu
packages this time. I just needed to editions, from file > prefs, to get
get the machines to load up.

Don't think this was of significance, but who knows,so I probably should
mention another couple of fixes I did before the upgrade, based on
syslog entries:

This one here for OID file not found errors:

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1102926/colord-errors-in-var-log-syslog-
in-18-10

The other was commenting out 'max-height' and 'max-width' from gtk-
widgets.css in /usr/share/themes/Ambiant-MATE/gtk-3.0. Annoying error
that I have been meaning to sort out for a while now ...

I have tested this all day. Run it through its paces. Still a few little
grumbles showing in the syslog but nothing serious I tend to think. I am
guessing things trying to launch before AppArmor will let them, that's
all.

Seems good.

@Robie, a micro-release update already happened in Trusty bug #1303688,
it went from 2.0.6 to 2.0.8. Upstream makes sure that micro-releases are
stable and only bug-fixes get cherry-picked to the stable branch from
master.

[Bug 1829609] [NEW] files in sudoers.d no longer being read or honored

2019-05-18 Thread oshunluvr
Public bug reported:

Previously reported bug not ever assigned:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...e/+bug/1584549

Currently using KDEneon User Edition LTS 18.04 fully updated.

No known entry format in /etc/sudoers.d/ appear to be read by sudoers
any longer. All files under /etc/sudoers.d/ are permissions 0440 and
root owned. visudo -c confirms the syntax passes the checks. Prior to
last month, files in suoders.d were read and worked IF you used the FQDM
and not the hostname (as should be allowed thus the prior bug report).
Some update must have broken the usage.

I have attempted the following formats in /etc/sudoers.d/apt;

stuart office.smith.lan = (root) NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/apt-
get,/usr/bin/apt,/usr/bin/add-apt-repository,/usr/bin/apt-add-repository

stuart office = (root) NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/apt-get,/usr/bin/apt,/usr/bin
/add-apt-repository,/usr/bin/apt-add-repository

stuart office.smith.lan = (root) NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/apt-get
stuart office.smith.lan = (root) NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/apt
stuart office.smith.lan = (root) NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/add-apt-repository
stuart office.smith.lan = (root) NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/apt-add-repository

stuart ALL = (root) NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/apt-get,/usr/bin/apt,/usr/bin
/add-apt-repository,/usr/bin/apt-add-repository

ALL ALL= (root) NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/apt-get,/usr/bin/apt,/usr/bin/add-
apt-repository,/usr/bin/apt-add-repository

The first one above worked in 16.04. Prior to that (15.04) the second
one worked. I have tried all of these and none are honored.

[Bug 1584549] Re: sudoers not honoring hostnames

Now using 18.04 KDEneon and last month sometime an update broke this
functionality even further. The FQDN and indeed no other format works
any longer.

I took the code out of the bigger program and made another small program

[Bug 1827751] Re: Lock screen displayed after screen blanking even when lock screen disabled

2019-05-18 Thread Jason Gambrel
Sorry, but I am not sure I could tell the difference so I will try and
describe it as best I can.

There is no place to enter a password, but I also have my system set to
automatically log in, so I'm not sure if it would ask me for a password
if it was displayed. I do have to press a key to get past the screen.

I have attached a picture of the screen. I was not able to do a screen
capture as it would not let me with the screen displayed, so I used my
phone's camera. I will also attached a screen capture showing my
settings for choice of background and lock screen in the next comment as
I can only attach one file per comment. Hopefully this will clarify
things.

[Bug 1798790] Re: Ubuntu login screen never appears when using the Nvidia driver (and setting WaylandEnable=false fixes it)

2019-05-18 Thread Shannon VanWagner
Workaround in #19 working for me so far on Ubuntu 19.04. Have done a
reboot test and a powerup test so far.

Something I noticed earlier when the machine was stuck is that the machine was
able to get to the point where I could ssh to it after the GUI hadn't started.
The command below did bring up the GUI for me:
$ sudo systemctl restart gdm3
or even
$ /etc/init.d/gdm3 restart

Not a better workaround, but may save from rebooting while you make the
change for #19.

$ cat /etc/issue.net
Ubuntu 19.04
$ uname -a
Linux ubuntu-am 5.0.0-15-generic #16-Ubuntu SMP Mon May 6 17:41:33 UTC 2019
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Here is my syslog, I do notice some activity from
'meta_kms_resources_init', mentioned in #19, in there..

Thanks for all you do!

[Bug 1574732] Re: Regression: Kernel Update in 16.04 from last days renders nvidia driver unusable

2019-05-18 Thread Steve Langasek
This bug has just had a xenial bug task added to it, but the issue
described here has been resolved for some time. Current versions of
dkms-based module packages prompt users to enroll a machine owner key in
firmware to allow loading of modules not signed by the kernel's key.
Marking this bug fixed.

** Changed in: shim (Ubuntu Xenial)
   Status: New => Fix Released

[Bug 1829600] [NEW] Geary chrashes full wayland session

2019-05-18 Thread UbuFiNeon
Public bug reported:

Geary version: 0.12-dev
Installation method: APT geary/bionic,now 0.12.0-1ubuntu1 amd64 [installed]
Desktop: GNOME with Ubuntu Flavor (Wayland)
Operating system and version: Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS

Steps to reproduce:
Open geary with at least one configured account and try to open the "About"
dialog via panel menu as early as possible. The whole wayland session gets
stuck and then to login screen appears.

It works as expected if geary is idle

This is not the only way to chrash the session via geary, but the one
best to reproduce.

I removed the package and installed the newer release via flatpak, where
the menu items already moved from panel to app. The maintainer of this
package should consider to update this package in the apt repository, at
least for the current LTS release and later.

** Affects: geary (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1810546] Re: AMDGPU VMC page fault with Athlon 200GE APU

2019-05-18 Thread Luca
This fixes it for me (raven ridge 2200g though). But unfortunately it
seems that the version in linux-firmware is not sufficient and after
every update it gets back.
