[Bug 1581864] Re: nginx.service: Failed to read PID from file /run/nginx.pid: Invalid argument
I've developed and tested a different approach. More invasive and probably not something upstream will like the look of! The approach is to have ngx_daemon() not do the parent process exit() after fork() but to return the child PID. The parent process detects that (a value > 0), sets ngx_pid = child_pid, calls ngx_crate_pidfile(), then does the exit(). I tested with extensive log messages to trace behaviour and confirmed it works. Jun 01 03:01:51 u1910 systemd[1]: Starting A high performance web server and a reverse proxy server... OP had also tested this with linux-image-generic-hwe-18.04 / linux- image-4.18.0-20-generic, where dmesg looked very similar to that of this hwe-18.04-edge kernel. [Bug 1768166] Re: Random crashes
Call for testing I hope for help by both Ping-Wu (the bug reporter) and other Chinese users to test the proposed upgrade of the ibus-libpinyin package in Ubuntu 18.04. I have subscribed the Ubuntu CJK Testers team to this bug report to reach out to more possible testers. "Intelligent Pinyin", which is provided by ibus-libpinyin, is the default input method in Ubuntu for inputting Simplified Chinese. While we want to address the crash problem reported in this bug, we want to minimize the regression risk. The new versions of the affected packages are available in bionic- proposed. These are the steps to install them: 1. Enable bionic-proposed - * Open Software & Updates and select the "Developer Options" tab. * Check the "Pre-released updates" option. 2. Update the package information on your system sudo apt update 3. Install/upgrade the packages --- sudo apt install ibus-libpinyin libpinyin-data libpinyin13 (Please note that it's not sufficient for this test to only upgrade ibus-libpinyin.) 4. Disable bionic-proposed -- * Open Software & Updates and select the "Developer Options" tab. * Uncheck the "Pre-released updates" option. 5. Update the package information on your system sudo apt update With that your system is back to normal, except for those three packages from -proposed. You can confirm that you got the right versions by using this command: dpkg-query -W ibus-libpinyin libpinyin-data libpinyin13 It should show this info: ibus-libpinyin 1.11.0-1ubuntu0.18.04.1 libpinyin-data:amd642.2.2-1~ubuntu18.04.1 libpinyin13:amd64 2.2.2-1~ubuntu18.04.1 Then I simply ask you to use "Intelligent Pinyin" for your daily needs, and submit a comment here after a few days about your experience. Any kinds of comments are helpful, both "works well" and info about issues you stumble upon. Most important, of course, is that no new issues are introduced via this upgrade. Used - the Pinyin (LibPinyin) (Fcitx) method (on Unity) - the New Zhuyin method for inputting some Chinese characters. Didn't observe any issues due to the upgraded packages built from libpinyin. Successfully rebuilt the bionic-release versions of fcitx-libpinyin and ibus-libzhuyin with libpinyin 2.2.2. Conclusion: We can stay with the current bionic versions of fcitx- libpinyin and ibus-libzhuyin. Upgrading those would be beyond the scope of this bug. ** Description changed: [Impact] ibus-libpinyin has proved to crash far too often. To compensate for that, we will await testing of the -proposed packages by a few Chinese users before considering the uploads verified.) So additional test measures are: + Besides ibus-libpinyin, also fcitx-libpinyin and ibus-libzhuyin depend on packages belonging to the libpinyin source package. NOTE TO SRU TEAM: Please let the SRU age for longer than 7 days to get as much testing as possible. There do not seem to be too many risky changes carried, but such jumps in upstream versions always carry some regression-risk. [Original description] I have experienced random ibus-libpinyin crashes in bionic. I cannot reproduce it, but it occurred at least a few times, even after the official bionic release. Same crashes were also reported in the Ubuntu Chinese forum. Currently, the workaround is to delete the ~/.cache/ibus/libpinyin folder. [Bug 1798961] Re: Random unrecoverable freezes on Ubuntu 18.10
Hi All. I am getting system freezes on a dual boot base unit with Ryzen 1700 and a R9 380 graphics card. I'm running Kubuntu 19.04. Most modern debian/ubuntu package of glusterfs-server have glusterd & glustereventsd disabled voluntary, and require manual operation to either start it or enable it. Since it's already in place is Cosmic and late as-is, it makes sense to me to stay consistent with what we have in later version. All documentation I have seen so far, indicate that glustereventsd need to be enable using systemctl enable too, so that approach seems align with official documentation found online. The only downside, that I can see, is that one shouldn't expect "glusterd" and "glustereventsd" to be up and running after the installation. It's a behaviour change per see, but in fact, since the current package never been into a installable/useable state in Bionic, then it's a behaviour change that no one (or very little for those who might have workaround the install issue) will notice since again nobody was able to install the package in Bionic so far. The other option will be to upgrade the package to a non EOL version, but same change behaviour will occur (same approach is used) but + code change. I don't know how this code change may or may not impact Bionic user, this will require more analysis. The upgrade can also be part of a separate discussion, let's focus for now on fixing the installation IMHO. + Additionally, the package have never been able to be installed successfully in Bionic, so who knows what bugs this version might have, once installed. Of course, I did and will continue to do more testing once found in bionic-proposed, but if a bug arise, this will need to be fix as any other userspace bug. I don't see a big problem here. + [Other Info] # General info about events api:

[Bug 1770929] Re: Duplicity fails with UnicodeDecodeError in uexc function
All, This should be fixed in 0.8.00, which has now been released. This is the first 0.8-series release, so expect issues and test it out on data you can afford to lose (if it comes to that). I have now packaged up this version as a snap. You can install it by typing: snap install duplicity --classic --beta Please uninstall your current version of duplicity to ensure you are using the snap instead of one from apt etc. (This will work out of the box on nearly all versions of Ubuntu. If you use a different distro and have never installed snaps before, visit this page: https://docs.snapcraft.io/installing-snapd ) This includes the latest duplicity and all dependencies wrapped up in a self-contained bundle. You should not need to install anything else for this to work (including for all backends). If you do test this, it would be very helpful if you could please comment here, even if the only feedback is that all worked as expected. If you are giving any feedback, please also give the output of: which duplicity and snap list | grep duplicity and let me know which backends you used. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1770929 Title: Duplicity fails with UnicodeDecodeError in uexc function To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/duplicity/+bug/1770929/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It will fail if the remote add-apt-repository isn't at a newer version (i.e. that supports the '-' param). Additionally, the gpg has to be manually added, since (for private ppas) that can't be queried without logging into lp, which is what the remote session is trying to avoid. I think simply creating the resulting files - sourceparts, netrcparts, and trustedparts - on the remote system is going to be more reliable and simpler than using the remote system's installed add-apt-repository to try to process things into place. Calling apt-config on the remote system to gather the right directories to place the files should be simple; I think the hardest part will be figuring out how to do it without multiple subprocess runs to call ssh to 1) gather apt-config on the remote system and then 2) scp/sftp or ssh create-from-stdin the 3 files, and then 3) make sure they are the correct mode. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/645404 Title: Support Private PPAs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-properties/+bug/645404/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1831282] [NEW] Notes in transparent design is unusable over dark background
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS KDE Plasma 5.12.7 When i use notes in transparent design it is unusable over dark background/wallpaper because the text are always dark. Solution: in /usr/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.plasma.notes/contents/ui/main.qml at section style: PlasmaStyle.TextAreaStyle { //this is deliberately _NOT_ the theme color as we are over a known bright background //an unknown colour over a known colour is a bad move as you end up with white on yellow textColor: plasmoid.configuration.color === "black" ? "#dfdfdf" : "#202020" } i changed textColor: plasmoid.configuration.color === "black" ? "#dfdfdf" : "#202020" to textColor: plasmoid.configuration.color === "black" ? "#dfdfdf" : "white" and it works for me after reboot. Please fix that for dark background. Better there comes a feature for notes to make textcolor choosable. [Bug 1581864] Re: nginx.service: Failed to read PID from file /run/nginx.pid: Invalid argument
This may be a viable workaround. For a systemd Type=fork unit 'success' is determined when the parent process exits. At this time systemd expects the PIDFile to exist. nginx actually creates the PID file in the forked process. Presumably on single CPU systems there is a sufficient delay in scheduling for the forked process not to have created the PID file when systemd checks for it. Bring the creation of the PID file forward into the parent process. ** Patch added: "Bring PID creation into parent process" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nginx/+bug/1581864/+attachment/5268127/+files/nginx-pid-race.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1581864 Title: nginx.service: Failed to read PID from file /run/nginx.pid: Invalid argument To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nginx/+bug/1581864/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1820226] Re: [MIR] twitter-bootstrap3 as dependency of mailman3
I reviewed twitter-bootstrap3 3.4.0+dfsg-4 as checked into eoan. This shouldn't be considered a full audit but rather a quick gauge of maintainability. twitter-bootstrap3 is an open source toolkit for developing with HTML, CSS, and JS. - There are different versions of twitter-bootstrap in the archive, after some search we have that - twitter-bootstrap4: Highly maintained - twitter-bootstrap3: The 3.4.0 version landed in December 2018 and it shows that development is more focused in the 4.x version than in 3.x. See: https://blog.getbootstrap.com/2018/12/13/bootstrap-3-4-0/ After the 3.4.0 release we had 3.4.1 (Feb 2019) which fixed a security issue. So it seems that they are doing the minimum of giving at least security updates to version 3. (we might want to consider updating to 3.4.1) It is used in mailman-website where you can manage lists.
