[Bug 1830531] Re: .local domain look ups do not trigger name publication

2019-06-01 Thread Dan Kortschak
I don't claim that the packets are not being sent, but rather that the
system does not work as expected out of the box when it did in a
previous LTR. I don't really care what package is the cause except to
help get the problem fixed. I have done as much debugging of this as I
am capable since networking is not my area. If additional specific
question need addressing, I can follow up.

I was thinking more about all the other places in the UI where these
underlined letters still live (as you said for 20 years so clearly for
too long), but I understand that Photon has already a big scope.

[Bug 1690085]

2019-06-01 Thread kernel
My two (server) machines running 1600's are also not experiencing
problems any more using new BIOSes + 4.19 kernels + "Typical current
bullshit". Hence I tend to agree that for most people the issue is
solved.

However Trevor I'm mostly posting to let you know ECC works fine, at
least with ASRock boards (of which the spec actually features ECC
support, e.g. mine
https://www.asrock.com/MB/AMD/AB350M%20Pro4/index.asp#Specification),
even under Ryzen 1xxx CPU's:

[Bug 1690085]

2019-06-01 Thread kernelbugs
As I mention around Comment 485 and later (starting Jan 22), for us we
have nearly the same computer and after setting BIOS to current idle as
you did, all of our problems disappeared. Haven't messed with it since.
That's 4 months of uptime, zero hangs, zero crashes.

I'd bet everyone who was here and said they'd try the BIOS tweak and has
not reported back falls into the same camp. Everyone else is dealing
with more or other problems, probably.

As for Ryzen 3000 series, AMD better have fixed this !@%!^# problem!
Since it looks like 3000 will do ECC nicely, I'll be building another
box with it in early July.

2019-06-01 Thread Lars Bahner

Not much to say. It crashes every time, I cleick devices - and then
continues to crash on every start up. Trying the command:

  gsettings reset org.gnome.ControlCenter last-panel

control-center and use it, until I click Devices again.

[Bug 1291855] Re: After pulseaudio restart, volume keys no longer work

2019-06-01 Thread Erich Eickmeyer
Ubuntu Studio has synced the panel from Xubuntu which will land in
19.10. As prior releases depended on xfce4-voumed in the past for the
default panel, this fix cannot be backported. Instead a permanent
workaround solution (using xfce4-pulseaudio-plugin instead) has been
implemented.

[Bug 1831355] [NEW] disco ubuntu installs but then grub-install hangs w GRUB-PROBE taking 100%cpu. I kill it for every opsys detected. that gets mea good grub.cfg. Then Edit...

2019-06-01 Thread robert Newton
Public bug reported:

grub-probe and grub-installer is in grub2 or grub2-efi ??

grub.cfg.new is written but is incomplete even after hour long wait..
I can cntl-page into another terminal-newTab.
'sudo Top' reports Grub-Probe is pegged at 100%.
Easy to kill w (k)kill the default top cpu using pid
REPEAT until grub-install or grub-update done...

(should I nano /etc/grub.d/20* w suspected calls??)
(I once cd /usr/sbin/;sudo bash; mv Gprobe Gprobe~; ln -fv true grub-probe !!)

Grub.cfg will then say 'set/ root=(hd0)' instead of (hd0,6) ARGHH

This happens even when hd0,1 is efi/vfat or ext2
And when /boot/grub=hd0,2 as ext2 so i can btrfs-tools -> convert to btrfs
later!

seems /@ and /@home is is xfrmd into / and /home by kernel but not by
grub.

btw: can grub-imageboot be explained better. I string `which memdisk` to
find RAW, Safe ETC.

[Bug 1826468]

2019-06-01 Thread Mokurtz
After further testing, the bug persists.

I had a file on an gvfs-mounted sftp share that was locked. I clicked on
"enable editing," which creates a new file in that directory, and Writer
crashed.

Less severe but the same behavior from a different functionality.

[Bug 1831280] Re: Main menu of many applications is gone

2019-06-01 Thread Alan Pope  濾
I didn't say the multitude of random issues "spontaneously appear".

My point is that the desktop is tested as a set of packages delivered
together. There are dependencies, and expectations. It's not uncommon
for users to run commands to install or remove software from their
system which they copy/pasted from a blog or other guide. Sometimes
these guides suggest doing things which can end up removing core
packages from the system. The command will have alerted the user, but
the user may not understand the implications. I noted that your system
is old, having been installed from a 13.04 ISO. There's the very real
possibility that something you did in the 6 years since then as
inadvertently removed a package which the desktop needs for normal
operation. It's also possible that this hasn't happened. The commands I
gave will simply install the 'ubuntu-desktop' "task" which will in turn
make sure all the expected dependencies are installed. Nothing more. It
may actually do nothing at all, if they're all there. Or it might. It's
just a handy one-liner that I've used many times to 'reset' things back
to a working state.

[Bug 1831351] [NEW] Please provide option to continue bug report from different computer

2019-06-01 Thread Tom Reynolds
Public bug reported:

There are some situations where it is desirable to gather debugging
information on a system affected by a bug, but to login (to
Launchpad/Ubuntu SSO) and complete editing this bug report from a
different system.

This is already implemented for situations where the affected system
runs headless, i.e. servers without a graphical display. However, this
should also be a user choice exposed as a command line option to ubuntu-
bug (which, at least according to --help it currently is not).

A common use case where this would be nice to have is testing software
in a VM, but not wanting to expose Ubuntu SSO credentials to this VM
(e.g. for security concerns). Another use case is a need to report a
serious bug in the default web browser where this web browser is unable
to access any websites.

There is a workaround:
  DISPLAY= ubuntu-bug somepackage
Unfortunately this means the debugging data collection phase will provide a
text-only UI instead of the nicer / more user-friendly GTK one.

Re: [Bug 1768166] Re: Random crashes

2019-06-01 Thread Ping-Wu
Duly noted.

I am hitting a brick wall in the Chinese Ubuntu forum. It turns out that
nobody is using the ibus-libpinyin input method.

Would you be interested in using, as part of your daily routine, an input
tool that can suddenly crash and cannot be recovered until you delete all
the vocabulary that you have painstakingly built? I won't blame them.

Switching to a different Chinese input method is much more involved than
you may think. Even temporarily. I might be able to personally force one
or two Chinese Ubuntu forum participants to test your proposed changes.
But that's about it for now.

I'm not sure this is a duplicate. The other bug report only mentions a

I'm having this issue and the packages to autoremove are mostly the ones

[Bug 1831280] Re: Main menu of many applications is gone

2019-06-01 Thread teo1978
> I would still appreciate it if you ran the commands
> I said and paste the output here. That can fix a multitude of random issues.

Something is seriously wrong in Ubuntu if "a multitude of random issues" can
spontaneously appear and if I need to run those commands to fix them.
I would expect random issues to not appear in the first place, and if they do,
I would expect the Update Manager (the one that pops up every once in a while
alerting me of new updates to install) to detect them, give me a warning, and
offer me to run those commands for me.

Now, those sound scary, so I'll do some research before I do that.
Thanks.

[Bug 1831347] [NEW] Xorg freeze - update

2019-06-01 Thread Peter
Public bug reported:

Dear Ubuntu,

Thank you for taking the time to read this report. My last report stated
that nvidia-430 driver was the problem. I have since reinstalled ubuntu
18.4 and carefully followed the EGPU setup provided online using
gswitch. I should note that last install I forgot to add "systemctl
enable gswitch". I have noticed far fewer issues. Interestingly, I also
enabled autologin for my account. This appears to have helped the
problem significantly. I did try switching to regular password required
at login and the freezing / hanging did occur during some web browsing
but it was only for about 5 - 10 seconds. I then immediately switched
back to autologins and I have not noticed any freezing or hanging! I
believe the problem with regular password req logins is that it causes
my internal display (laptop screen) to be enabled first during the login
when I enter my password. After I enter my password the internal display
turns off and then I use my external display only as I have that
confiured in the ubuntu device settings. But with autologin, the
computer boots momentarily to internal screen when you see the ubuntu
dots sliding to the right and then into gnome.

So it appears using autologin is more stable when using an EGPU with
external display only! I am using nvidia-430 drivers.

So I think gdm3 needs an update or X11 needs an update so that it can
honor the external display better? Anyways! I will keep you posted.

Thanks for your dedication guys!!

Take care,

Peter

[Bug 1768166] Re: Random crashes

2019-06-01 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
@Ping-Wu: Which tools for inputting Chinese should be available on
Ubuntu going forward is indeed a valid discussion, but this bug report
is not a proper place for it. I notice your strong interest in the
topic, and if you want to start such a discussion, I would suggest that
you start a thread at .

For Ubuntu 18.04 we have the tools which are in the archive, and ibus-
libpinyin ("Intelligent Pinyin") is the default method for Simplified
Chinese. This bug (filed by yourself) is about upgrading the software
for that method, and only that.

So can we please focus here on testing the proposal to upgrade, and hold
the wider discussion in e.g. the Ubuntu Community Hub?

[Bug 1528474] Re: pcsxr crash on game startup

2019-06-01 Thread Huseyin Can Onel
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1504834 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1504834

had the same issue on Ubuntu 14.04 with pcsxr 1.7.
i have tried changing cpu = 0 to 1 in cfg file.
also tried changing the renderer to opengl.
neither worked.
solution: i was trying to load the bin file from "recently used" location. that
caused the crash. instead, i have browsed into the actual location of the bin
file and it worked.
i know this sounds stupid and i do not know why, but this solved my problem.

[Bug 1831346] [NEW] virt-builder: error: dnf -y install: Failed to synchronize cache

2019-06-01 Thread Phill Wolf
Public bug reported:

Summary: virt-builder with the --install option cannot install packages
in a new fedora-30 image.

The problem can be reproduced with this 1 command:

  $ virt-builder fedora-30 -o fedora-30-img --size 21G --install
'enscript'

I expect it to emit the file, fedora-30-img, including the enscript
package. But instead, it emits the following error message:

virt-builder: error: dnf -y install 'enscript': command exited with an
  error

If run with verbose messages (virt-builder fedora-30 -v -o fedora-30-img
--size 21G --install 'enscript'), it produces copious output, including
a few signs of potential problems. Excerpt:

[Bug 994418] Re: Move with window within wall broken when wall slide duration = 0

2019-06-01 Thread moharchi
I also have some walls that stops the block from going off screen, but when I
"Slide" across a wall, with the "wanted" velocity of the block going diagonal,
the block moves much slower going across the wall than when just moving through
space. This happens even when the wall has no physics material.
[Bluestacks](https://bluestacks.vip/) [Lucky
Patcher](https://luckypatcher.pro/) [Kodi](https://kodi.software/)
How do I make it so that when I slide across the wall, it moves at the same
speed as when going through empty space? If there is any scripting involved in
your answer, please put it in javascript.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1831345] [NEW] Attribute-Editor is missing when enabling Advanced Features in RSAT

2019-06-01 Thread Martin Wolf
Public bug reported:

I created a samba-ad with the following parameters:
"samba-tool domain provision --realm=adiumentum.local --domain=adiumentum
--server-role=dc --dns-backend=SAMBA_INTERNAL --adminpass=Admin123
--option="interfaces=lo eth0" --option="bind interfaces only=yes" --use-rfc2307"

Then I tried to connect to my samba ad from a non ad member pc (Win10) with:
%windir%\system32\runas /netonly /user:ADIUMENTUM\Administrator "mmc dsa.msc
/server=10.0.0.35"

The connection works without problems but when I enable "Advanced
Features" and try to edit a user the tab "attribute editor" is not
present.

Then I installed Fedora 30 with samba 4.10.x and created a similar enviroment.
When I connected to this machine and looked for the Attribute Edtior tab, it
was present.

2019-06-01 Thread Stephen Kitt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1728966 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1728966

Ideally, upstream would manage to get a new release sorted out, see
https://github.com/pwr/Solaar/issues/407

However I realise that’s rather unlikely, so I’ll package a snapshot
once Buster is released.

[Bug 1825572] Re: April 2019 Oracle CPU might also affect MariaDB

2019-06-01 Thread Otto Kekäläinen
The 10.1 series update for 18.04 is now available.
Since the .39 upstream discovered regressions and thus there is now a .40
release which is the best release to ship these security fixes.

Please use git-buildpackage to fetch and build from the ubuntu-18.04
branch at https://salsa.debian.org/mariadb-
team/mariadb-10.1/tree/ubuntu-18.04

The repository uses pristine-tar, so there is no need to separately
download the sources. You can just check the signature/SHA1SUM directly
from the git-buildpackage generated tarball.

Test builds and testsuite passed on all platforms at
https://launchpad.net/~mysql-ubuntu/+archive/ubuntu/mariadb-10.1/+builds?build_text=_state=all

Debdiffs can be created directly from the repo like in a local clone
with 'git diff .. debian/'

3) Expected behaviour: Konqueror should show thumbnails for video files, if
kffmpegthumbnailer and ffmpegthumbnailer are installed.
4) Actual behaviour: Konqueror does not show thumbnails for video files. But
dolphin does.

[Bug 1827843] Re: Ubuntu 18.04: App Menu Drawer doesn't show up fully always!

2019-06-01 Thread gmagoon
Looks like that was it. I removed all my extensions and I don't get that
app display error anymore. I guess I will have to do without the net
speed extension :(

[Bug 1825572] Re: April 2019 Oracle CPU might also affect MariaDB

2019-06-01 Thread Otto Kekäläinen
As documented on https://mariadb.org/about/maintenance-policy/ the 10.0
series is no longer maintained and will not get fixes without special
arrangements. For the scope of this bug tracker I am marking it "Won't
fix".

** Changed in: mariadb-10.0 (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Won't Fix

[Bug 1826461] Re: Suspend fails on Ubuntu 18.04 when mobile network connected and no WiFi connection.

2019-06-01 Thread Jan
Sure, but could you help me with that?
Do you still want me to check 5.2 kernel?
Can I install it with ukuu?
https://github.com/teejee2008/ukuu
I don't know how to test kernel parameter "usbcore.quirks=1199:a001:m".
Could you tell me how to do it?
