[Bug 1829872] Re: No more desktop effects since libdrm upgrade in Bionic
Timo, indeed I enable several repositories : backports and proposed updates among them. I like to have a system with as recent softwares as possible (at home I use debian testing) and see if everything is ok, report bugs when needed (like "now" ;) for this one. I'm usually quite impressed by the work done on [almost-]bleeding edge packages since this is one of the rare case I found a bug as impacting as this one. As for mesa, there wasn't any presence of an upgrade. Here is the full list of upgraded packages on that day (the problem appeared at reboot after that upgrade) : $ pwd /var/log/apt $ zgrep -C 5 "2019-05-09" history.log.1.gz | grep Upgrade > ~/may-libdrm-upgrade.log (see attachment -- there wasn't any package removal that day) Apart from libdrm, there was a libreoffice, ffx and cups upgrade but I doubt these could be the cause of the Xorg effects problem I have now. ** Attachment added: "may-libdrm-upgrade.log" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libdrm/+bug/1829872/+attachment/5268874/+files/may-libdrm-upgrade.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1829872 Title: No more desktop effects since libdrm upgrade in Bionic To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libdrm/+bug/1829872/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1831686] [NEW] bionic install on new machine regularly crashing
Public bug reported: On this new machine, I'm getting regular arbitrary crashes usually within a few hours of boot. Syslog from what I believe is an example is below. Most commonly, it crashes in a firefox tab running a flash game (ITRTG from kongregate.com); the affected Web Content process then sits in a D state and cannot be killed (even by sudo kill -9, though that does change it to zombie state), while top continues to show it using 100% of a CPU. At this point, strace cannot attach to it and 'ps -eaf' will hang, as will exercises such as trying to cat /proc/$PID/cmdline. A hard reboot is the only thing that clears it: 'shutdown -r' or '-h' do not succeed. I have also had the whole system freeze, including at the X login screen; I have not yet found further examples of syslog reports from such cases. Let me know if there's other information I can usefully provide. [Bug 1566032] Re: crl-verify is not an option
It looks like this option is available via "crl-verify-file" and "crl- verify-dir" in network-manager-openvpn 1.8.4 and higher. It looks like versions with this functionality are already in the cosmic (network- manager-openvpn 1.8.6) and disco (network-manager-openvpn 1.8.10) repositories. Are there any plans to update the version used by bionic? I'm required to use bionic for a little while longer now in my org and it would be a boon to be able to have access to this functionality sooner rather than later.. Re: [Bug 1359836] Re: Ubuntu ISOs downloaded insecurely, over HTTP rather than HTTPS
On Wed, Jun 05, 2019 at 12:13:54AM -, Thomas Mayer wrote: > I'd like to sum it up like this: Users should _download_ from a mirror > but they should neither _trust_ the download of the mirror nor the > checksums a mirror provides. Users can trust checksums provided by mirrors because we publish signatures on the SHA256SUMS files. If the user has a copy of GnuPG that they trust, they can use it to verify the SHA256SUMS file. We've published instructions on how to do this at: https://tutorials.ubuntu.com/tutorial/tutorial-how-to-verify-ubuntu#3 > It's even the other way round: Having mirrors in the game makes it _even > more_ important that checksums are provided by Canonical and that the > user can verify both integrity _and_ origin (=> Canonical's domain) of > the _checksums_. That's what TLS provides (besides encryption) when done > right. Because the SHA256SUMS files are generated and signed by us, they're going to be identical across all mirrors -- at least among the mirrors that keep up to date. It doesn't matter where the checksums and signatures are retrieved from, so long as they are fresh. It is difficult to determine what exactly "fresh" means, but GnuPG will report the time that a signature was created: $ gpg --verify SHA256SUMS.gpg SHA256SUMS gpg: Signature made Fri 15 Feb 2019 08:32:38 AM PST gpg:using DSA key 46181433FBB75451 gpg: Good signature from "Ubuntu CD Image Automatic Signing Key " [full] gpg: Signature made Fri 15 Feb 2019 08:32:38 AM PST gpg:using RSA key D94AA3F0EFE21092 gpg: Good signature from "Ubuntu CD Image Automatic Signing Key (2012) " [full] Double-checking the desired image against e.g. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases to find out when the signatures should have been created is about the only way to address the freshness problem. That is a slight wrinkle of using mirrors rather than Ubuntu's own infrastructure. Someone using our archives directly could skip this check. Re: [Bug 1828666] Re: Kernels 5.0.0 and later networking does not work on i7-6850k on Asus X99A motherboard
I can maybe do this but a 15 step bisection is not something I can do. This machine needs to be in service 24x7 and it's 21 miles away, I have to go there to reboot because when it comes up with no network then I'm stuck. -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- Eskimo North Linux Friendly Internet Access, Shell Accounts, and Hosting.
