[Bug 1835040] Re: Touchpd not working properly on Linux

2019-07-05 Thread Arnab Satapathi
** Description changed:

  Installed Ubuntu 19.04 on a laptop, the touch pad is behaving abnormally.
  It's detected, but nothing seems to work, however working very normal with
Windows 10.

  Laptop model - iBall CompBook M500

  It's somewhat similar to this bug, probably using the same touchpad hardware
too.
- https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1757435
+ https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1825718

  Attached some logs, with `i2c-hid.debug=1 hid.debug=1` the boot time
  kernel parameters added.

  Thanks.

[Bug 1821625] Re: systemd 237-3ubuntu10.14 ADT test failure on Bionic ppc64el (test-seccomp)

2019-07-05 Thread Dan Streetman
$ reverse-depends -l -r bionic -b libseccomp-dev |& xargs
apt chrony docker.io flatpak gnome-desktop3
golang-github-seccomp-libseccomp-golang kscreenlocker lxc man-db ocserv
qemu snapd stenographer systemd tor tracker-miners usbguard

none of those packages reference pkey_mprotect except systemd, qemu, and snapd;
systemd and qemu are discussed above. The snapd package simply lists
pkey_mprotect in a list of syscalls and doesn't appear to compile-in the
syscall number, and so should not be affected:
ddstreet@thorin:~/bugs/lp1821625/sym-check/snapd/snapd-2.39.2+18.04$ grep -r
pkey_mprotect
cmd/snap-seccomp/syscalls/syscalls.go:  "pkey_mprotect",

additionally, snapd is updated quite often, so even if it is affected
there should be no need for a no-change rebuild.

[Bug 1835543] [NEW] Installation crashed due to a failed installation of GRUB onto the following /boot drive: /dev/sdc1

2019-07-05 Thread Nick De Been
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to install Ubuntu for my older brother, it installs
everything else other then the GRUB bootloader which is required to boot
Ubuntu and my other operating system which is Windows 10 Professional
x64, this is now serious as I have no idea how to repair the
installation and need to be contacted by email so I can speak to someone
ear to ear, because if I try to repair the installation, the installer
returns an error: ubi-partman failed with exit code 10. Further
information can be found in /var/log/syslog.

It then asks me if I want to try the step again before continuing, I
click try again and the same error returns, I click continue anyway only
to realize that I have not selected a boot drive, which means its going
to overwrite everything on my nvme drive which I don't want it to.

Thank you.

[Bug 1688592]

2019-07-05 Thread Robert Mader
Although this bug is only about decoding support, I'd like to leave a note
about the rendering: AFAIK rendering without any slow copies requires DMABUF
support, so processes can share resources on the GPU.
For the Wayland backend this about to land, see bug 1552590, quote:

> Wayland dmabuf surface are located in GPU and can be attached as
EGLImage or wl_buffer. It allows direct rendering to GPU and share the
HW buffer across processes.

[Bug 1821625] Re: systemd 237-3ubuntu10.14 ADT test failure on Bionic ppc64el (test-seccomp)

2019-07-05 Thread Dan Streetman
> Per [1] this symbol is present in: firejail, elogind, valgrind, glibc, musl,
> linux,
> systemd, strace, stress-ng, libseccomp, qemu

tl;dr: it looks like glibc and stress-ng are the only packages from that
list that might need a rebuild, but as with systemd, neither seem
important enough to warrant a special no-change rebuild. They will pick
up the new syscall value whenever they are next uploaded for any other
bugfix (after the current bionic -proposed kernel is promoted to
-updates).

details:

elogind: not included in bionic

firejail: it does use SYS_pkey_mprotect (which is defined as
__NR_pkey_mprotect):
ddstreet@thorin:~/bugs/lp1821625/sym-check/firejail/firejail-0.9.52$ grep -r
pkey_mprotect
src/man/firejail.txt:the arguments of mmap, mmap2, mprotect, pkey_mprotect and
shmat system
src/fseccomp/seccomp.c: // same for pkey_mprotect(,,PROT_EXEC), where
available
src/fseccomp/seccomp.c:#ifdef SYS_pkey_mprotect
src/fseccomp/seccomp.c: BPF_JUMP(BPF_JMP+BPF_JEQ+BPF_K,
SYS_pkey_mprotect, 0, 5),

however, the latest build available:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firejail/0.9.52-2
for ppc64el:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firejail/0.9.52-2/+build/13948498
was built with libseccomp2, not libseccomp-dev (which provides the problematic
public header file):
Get:57 http://ftpmaster.internal/ubuntu bionic/main ppc64el libseccomp2 ppc64el
2.3.1-2.1ubuntu3 [47.2 kB]

additionally, it was built with libseccomp2 version 2.3.1-2.1ubuntu3,
which was earlier than when the problematic patch was added (per this
bug comment 1). So no need to recompile.

musl: appears to only define __NR_pkey_mprotect in its embedded headers, and
doesn't include ppc; no need to require recompile:

ddstreet@thorin:~/bugs/lp1821625/sym-check/musl/musl-1.1.19$ grep -r
pkey_mprotect
arch/mipsn32/bits/syscall.h.in:#define __NR_pkey_mprotect   6327
arch/mips64/bits/syscall.h.in:#define __NR_pkey_mprotect5323
arch/arm/bits/syscall.h.in:#define __NR_pkey_mprotect   394
arch/aarch64/bits/syscall.h.in:#define __NR_pkey_mprotect 288
arch/or1k/bits/syscall.h.in:#define __NR_pkey_mprotect 288
arch/x32/bits/syscall.h.in:#define __NR_pkey_mprotect (0x4000 + 329)
arch/i386/bits/syscall.h.in:#define __NR_pkey_mprotect  380
arch/x86_64/bits/syscall.h.in:#define __NR_pkey_mprotect
329
arch/mips/bits/syscall.h.in:#define __NR_pkey_mprotect   4363
arch/microblaze/bits/syscall.h.in:#define __NR_pkey_mprotect 395

qemu: as @cpaelzer said, just in its embedded headers; no need to recompile.

strace: does appear to use pkey_mprotect, but the latest ppc64el build:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/strace/4.21-1ubuntu1/+build/14750033
did not build with libseccomp-dev (or libseccomp2) at all. Additionally, it
was built 2018-04-11, while the problematic patch was added to libseccomp
2019-02-12.  No need to rebuild.

stress-ng: it does include the number in its skip_syscalls list, of syscalls to
skip while running the 'enosys' stressor:
ddstreet@thorin:~/bugs/lp1821625/sym-check/stress-ng/stress-ng-0.09.25$ grep -r
pkey_mprotect
stress-enosys.c:#if defined(SYS_pkey_mprotect)
stress-enosys.c:SYS_pkey_mprotect,
stress-enosys.c:#if defined(__NR_pkey_mprotect)
stress-enosys.c:__NR_pkey_mprotect,

This stressor appears to call all syscall numbers that it thinks are not
supported/implemented. In this case, whether __NR_pkey_mprotect is a
negative number (if built with libseccomp-dev header), or not defined,
the end result is the same: stress-ng will not skip the *real*
pkey_mprotect syscall number. However, running 'sudo stress-ng --enosys
1' on a test ppc64el instance, at kernel 4.15.0-54 or -55, does not
appear to have any negative effect. So I don't think stress-ng needs to
be no-change rebuilt with the new kernel headers; it should be ok to
just let it pick up the correct value whenever it is next uploaded for
other reasons.

valgrind: referenced only in a commented-out table in arm64-specific file; no
rebuild needed.
ddstreet@thorin:~/bugs/lp1821625/sym-check/valgrind/valgrind-3.13.0$ grep -r
pkey_mprotect
coregrind/m_syswrap/syswrap-arm64-linux.c:   //   (__NR_pkey_mprotect,
sys_ni_syscall),// 288

glibc: it does reference pkey_mprotect. However, the latest build for bionic
was on 2018-04-16, before the problematic patch was added to libseccomp. It
appears that glibc's pkey_mprotect will simply return ENOSYS for the current
version:

int

pkey_mprotect (void *addr, size_t len, int prot, int pkey)

[Bug 1835540] [NEW] Confusing "modinfo: ERROR: missing module or filename." during normal operation

2019-07-05 Thread Dan Watkins
Public bug reported:

I just installed a new kernel, and when I did so my Nvidia kernel
modules were handled through DKMS, as you would expect. However, during
what I believe is normal operation, I saw the following stanza (repeated
for several nvidia .ko files):

nvidia.ko:
Running module version sanity check.
modinfo: ERROR: missing module or filename.
 - Original module
   - No original module exists within this kernel
 - Installation
   - Installing to /lib/modules/5.0.0-20-generic/updates/dkms/

The "ERROR" in here gave me pause, but I _believe_ that's an expected
message for a new kernel.

It would make for a less troubling user experience if we didn't print
out "ERROR" in all caps when there is no error at all.

[Bug 1833039] Re: 18.04/Apache2: rejecting client initiated renegotiation due to openssl 1.1.1

2019-07-05 Thread Andreas Hasenack
Cosmic verification
Confirming the bug with the distro packages:
 *** 2.4.34-1ubuntu2.1 500
500 http://br.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu cosmic-updates/main amd64
Packages

index is downloaded, but after a long delay:
# curl --output index.html https://ubuntu/ --cacert /etc/apache2/cacert.pem
--cert client-auth.pem --key client-auth.key --tlsv1.2
  % Total% Received % Xferd Average Speed TimeTime Time Current
 Dload  Upload   Total   SpentLeft  Speed
100 10918  100 109180 0705  0  0:00:15  0:00:15 --:--:--  2567

access log confirms the client certificate was used:
10.0.100.50 - - [05/Jul/2019:13:40:32 +] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 16544 "-"
"curl/7.61.0" protocol=TLSv1.2 commonName=client-auth

Updating apache and repeating the download:
 *** 2.4.34-1ubuntu2.2 500
500 http://br.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu cosmic-proposed/main amd64
Packages

Now it's fast:
# curl --output index.html https://ubuntu/ --cacert /etc/apache2/cacert.pem
--cert client-auth.pem --key client-auth.key --tlsv1.2
  % Total% Received % Xferd Average Speed TimeTime Time Current
 Dload  Upload   Total   SpentLeft  Speed
100 10918  100 109180 0  1332k  0 --:--:-- --:--:-- --:--:-- 1332k

Log confirms client certificate authentication is still being used:
10.0.100.50 - - [05/Jul/2019:13:58:13 +] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 16525 "-"
"curl/7.61.0" protocol=TLSv1.2 commonName=client-auth

The slight difference in downloaded data (16544 vs 16525) is due to less tls
keep-alive pings in the success case. The md5 of index.html is identical:
# md5sum index.html*
3526531ccd6c6a1d2340574a305a18f8  index.html
3526531ccd6c6a1d2340574a305a18f8  index.html-before

Cosmic verification succeeded.

[Bug 1835224] Re: gnome-terminal drops pam_group config

2019-07-05 Thread Philipp Takacs
I think you misunderstand me a bit.

> The issue is probably in systemd, starting up gnome-terminal (and
> presumably any other app that it starts up) with the wrong groups.

Yes gnome-terminal uses a systemd --user service to start a
terminal-server. This terminal-server is the parrent of all shells in
a gnome-terminal for this user.

The problem is systemd --user services are designed as per-user service
not per-session[0]. As I understand the Mailinglist, there ar no plans
to change this. So a systemd --user service isn't the right tool for
this architecture of a terminal and for any other programm which should
belong to a session. Thats why I say it's a bug in gnome-terminal not
in systemd.

That systemd has no per-session services is an other problem.

[Bug 1835536] [NEW] Stack-located variable is overwritten unexpectedly

2019-07-05 Thread Alexey Kozin
Public bug reported:

May be I made a mistake in the code, but the situation looks like a bug.
The problem belongs to gcc-7 and gcc-8.

Local variable E is created. The constructor successfully fills the
field E.t2.number with the value of -1.0.

After calling of an empty function with a const reference to tuple, the
value of E.t2.number is overwritten unexpectedly. The attached code
stores the value of E.t2.number before calling and after calling of an
empty function and then prints both.

The following line is printed with the preprocessed code attached:
v_before=-1.00, v_after=0.00

Compilation under Release configuration in Eclipse CDT generates another code.
In this situation the variable E.t2.number is not initialized properly. In this
case the following result is printed:
v_before=0.00, v_after=0.00
Unfortunately, I failed to create such preprocessed code. If I use -E option
and links the prerocessed code with g++-8, the value is initialized with -1.0
successfully and it corrupts only after the calling of an empty function.

The suspicious code:

...
void func(const std::tuple& t)
{

}
int main()
{
...
auto E=A(I,J)-B(J,I);
double v_before=E.t2.number;
func(std::tuple(1));
double v_after=E.t2.number;
printf("v_before=%lf, v_after=%lf\n",v_before, v_after);
}

[Bug 1835530] Re: kwin-addons: after installing any third-party task-switcher, all non-compiz switchers error

2019-07-05 Thread daf
Just a heads-up that

dpkg -S /usr/share/kwin/tabbox/informative/contents/ui/main.qml

reports:

kwin-addons: /usr/share/kwin/tabbox/informative/contents/ui/main.qml

(in case it matters -- because I see there's a kdeplasma-addons-data
package, but no kdeplasma-addons package, according to `apt-cache search
kdeplasma-addons`)

[Bug 1821625] Re: systemd 237-3ubuntu10.14 ADT test failure on Bionic ppc64el (test-seccomp)

2019-07-05 Thread Dan Streetman
> @Dan did that already contain the fix you expect or would considering
a seccomp be useful?

For libseccomp, it looks like it doesn't need a rebuild; it appears to
only reference the symbol in its header (which is what causes this
problem for other packages that pull in that header); in its code, the
only reference is where its syscall number is defined is inside its
ppc64_syscall_table (and ppc_syscall_table), where it is defined
correctly.

ddstreet@thorin:~/bugs/lp1821625/sym-check/libseccomp/libseccomp-2.4.1$ grep -r

src/arch-mips64n32-syscalls.c:  { "pkey_mprotect", (__SCMP_NR_BASE + 327) },

I still don't understand why libseccomp ever decided to define
__NR_pkey_mprotect to a negative number (if the kernel header doesn't define
it) in its public header file. IMHO that should be done in its code, or at
least in a private header file.

Marking this bug as Invalid for libseccomp; I still disagree with their
upstream decision re: their header file, but it doesn't appear any
rebuild or SRU code change is needed for it for this bug.

[Bug 1835530] [NEW] kwin-addons: after installing any third-party task-switcher, all non-compiz switchers error

2019-07-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I recently use the Task Switcher dialog to install a third-party
switcher. However, after installing the switcher and activating it, I
received the error:

window switcher installation is broken: resources are missing

so I uninstalled that switcher, but the issue persisted, even for
system-installed switchers -- all except the compiz ones (Cover Switch
and Flip Switch), ie I gather it remained for all the ones relying on
Qt.

killing kwin_x11 and restarting in a console, I saw the error:

```
file:///usr/share/kwin/tabbox/informative/contents/ui/main.qml:134: TypeError:
Cannot call method 'longestCaption' of null
```

so I edited that file, changing the contents of calculateMaxRowWidth to
be:

```
118 function calculateMaxRowWidth() {
119 var width = 0;
120 var model = tabBox.model;
121 var caption = tabBox.model ?
tabBox.model.longestCaption() : ""; // safely get thelongest caption
122 var textElement = Qt.createQmlObject(
123 'import QtQuick 2.0;'
124 + 'Text {\n'
125 + ' text: "' +
dialogMainItem.itemCaption(caption, true) + '"\n'
126 + ' font.bold: true\n'
127 + ' visible: false\n'
128 + '}',
129 compactListView, "calculateMaxRowWidth");
130 width = Math.max(textElement.width, width);
131 textElement.destroy();
132 return width + 16 + 2 * dialogMainItem.textMargin +
hoverItem.margins.right + hoverItem.margins.left
133 }
```

and now things are all working properly again. I would suggest this (or
something similar) to safeguard against this kind of problem -- there
didn't seem to be anything I could do from user-space to sort this out,
as I had already uninstalled the only switcher I had installed when the
error started happening.

[Bug 1828166] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2019-07-05 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From tmri...@de.ibm.com 2019-07-05 07:48 EDT---
I have tried to last 2 days to find a patch series to apply the required patch
which failed above.

The difference between upstream linux kernel 5.2.0rc7 and the ubuntu
18.04 kernel I downloaded from
url = git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-bionic
branch master-next
in regards to the function machine__create_kernel_maps() in file
tools/perf/util/machine.c
is very big.

Command
git log --oneline  '-L: machine__create_kernel_maps:tools/perf/util/machine.c'
identifies the difference of applied patches. The following patches
are missing in ubuntu version:

Commit-ID   Description
ed9adb2035b5 perf machine: Read also the end of the kernel
977c7a6d1e26 perf machine: Update kernel map address and re-order properly
1c5aae7710bbperf machine: Create maps for x86 PTI entry trampolines
3183f8ca304f perf symbols: Unify symbol maps
ee05d21791db perf machine: Set main kernel end address properly
1fb87b8e9599perf machine: Don't search for active kernel start in
__machine__create_kernel_maps

Already the first patch missing:
Commit-ID   Description
1fb87b8e9599perf machine: Don't search for active kernel start in
__machine__create_kernel_maps

does not apply because in this patch a function named machine__set_kernel_mmap()
is moved in file perf/tools/util/machine.c but this function is missing
in the ubuntu 18.04 master-next tree.
It turned out that this tree also misses patch:

Commit-ID   Description
05db6ff73d80 perf machine: Generalize machine__set_kernel_mmap()

Having found the starting patch, I can applied the following patch sequence:

root@s8360046:~/ubuntu-bionic#

The last patch is the one we need and it fails.
Refering to above patch list, I do not want to apply these two patches:

Commit-ID Description
1c5aae7710bb perf machine: Create maps for x86 PTI entry trampolines
3183f8ca304fperf symbols: Unify symbol maps

Both patches require tremendous change in the symbol table code of perf and
introduce trampoline functionality to handle security fixes in the kernel for
x86.
If you want to apply these two patch, better upgrade the perf tool completely.

Appling the last patch, the last 2 hunks fail because of missing context.
The changes itself are trivial, but I can not do the changes as the code of the
last patch is not from IBM.

Here is the difference from the file tools/perf/util/machine.c.rej:

removing the blocking tag. It's unclear if dwz will change. verilator
builds a binary without debug info, but why?

[Bug 1835520] [NEW] Radeon Palm vdpau broke with update bionic

2019-07-05 Thread hfdskjfdskjfdsuiqöewrö
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu: Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS (Release: 18.04)
Graphiccard is a AMD Radeon Palm using the r600 driver.

Two days ago i installed the updatet mesa packages for bionic: from
18.2.8-0ubuntu0~18.04.2 to 19.0.2-1ubuntu1.1~18.04.1
My Kodi-Mediacenter doesn't play videos with vdpau-hardwareacceleration
anymore. It just hangs and crashes after a few seconds.

I identified two workarounds:
1. Deactivating vdpau
2. downgrading of these packages helps, but the screen is flickering,
assumingly because of the combination of 19.0.2-1ubuntu1.1~18.04.1 and
18.0.0~rc5-1ubuntu1 packages:
libgl1-mesa-dri:amd64 to 18.0.0~rc5-1ubuntu1
mesa-vdpau-drivers:amd64 to 18.0.0~rc5-1ubuntu1
