[Bug 1840749] Re: Sound problems since ~5.2.3x

2019-08-21 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Now that I re-installed to 16.04 I don't need to rebuild things as before.
I have a working environment and when time permits I wanted to slowly pull in
the virtualbox releases of bionic-release, bionic-updates, ...
Consider it a poor mans binary search so that we'd have a starting point or
better a smaller version range to look for.
Lets mark it incomplete until I provided that.

[Bug 1840749] Re: Sound problems since ~5.2.3x

2019-08-21 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi Gianfranco,
thanks for the reply - didn't know you were on this package as well.
o/

I tried different sound options on both levels:
1. I exchanged graphics cards on the Host and used the onboard sound so overal
I had
  a) sound over HDMI on embedded graphics
  b) sound over HDMI on dedicated graphics
  c) sound on analog output (line out)
2. I tried various sound options
  a) SB16 (which is the default for win98 guests)
  b) AC97
  c) ICH (no luck with drivers there)

In general "windows" sounds worked e.g. wav and startup.
But all of them shared that they lost sound when the game initialized.

Have you grabbed unofficial packages? or maybe check your mirror is up-

[Bug 1841018] Re: Unable to install Intel Latest Driver

2019-08-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The latest recommended driver for Intel GPUs is actually the one built
in to Xorg, called "modesetting".

You shouldn't need to install the old 'intel' driver for anything. But
if you do then yes it should at least install.

[Bug 1839015] Re: atalkd won't start in ubuntu 18.04

2019-08-21 Thread Doug Brown
I ran into this same problem after upgrading to 18.04. The root cause is
this patch, which was included in 2.2.6:

https://github.com/Netatalk/Netatalk/commit/bbc0d89c056be3a2b5efa6bf5428f7ba8f07a1d0

It tries to fix things for NetBSD, but in the process breaks things in
Linux.

This is disgusting, but I manually patched the atalkd binary on my amd64
server to undo the patch, thus fixing this issue (netatalk
2.2.6-1ubuntu0.18.04.2):

At 0x70AA, change the byte from 0x01 to 0x00.
At 0x70BA, change the byte from 0x01 to 0x00.

[Bug 1819915] Re: s2disk freezes at saving image to disk (hibernation)

2019-08-21 Thread Johnathan
I've also been experiencing a similar issue for some time - occurring
intermittently, not when I'm using only a small amount of RAM - where s2disk
would hang on writing the image:
s2disk: Saving image data pages (press backspace to abort) ... 0%

On Ubuntu 18.04 (currently 4.18 kernel)

In case it is of use to anyone else who finds this bug, I was able to
work around this by writing a Hibernate script and assigning a keyboard
shortcut to it:

#!/bin/sh
echo Unlimiting IO cache...
sudo sysctl -w vm.dirty_ratio=100
sudo sysctl -w vm.dirty_background_ratio=100

sleep 5
sudo s2disk

echo Re-limiting IO cache...
sudo sysctl -w vm.dirty_background_ratio=10
sudo sysctl -w vm.dirty_ratio=20

This disables cached disk IO for the hibernate and restores it after
resume. It seems to work reliably for the past few weeks for me anyway.

[Bug 1841006] Re: gdb reports a segfault in ld-linux.so.3 on armhf

2019-08-21 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
I don't really know what is happening here but I suspect pretty strongly
it's related to systemtap static probes, because if I do this:

root@helped-oyster:~# cp /lib/ld-linux-armhf.so.3  .
root@helped-oyster:~# objcopy -R .note.stapsdt ld-linux-armhf.so.3
ld-linux-armhf.so.3-nostap
root@helped-oyster:~# gdb --args ./ld-linux-armhf.so.3-nostap /bin/true

Everything behaves as expected. I can't find a command line option to
disable systemtap probes, which seems a bit of a strange choice...

[Bug 1840995] [NEW] check_stamp() function of apt.systemd.daily should not assume interval is a number

2019-08-21 Thread Ivan Kurnosov
Public bug reported:

In the second half of the function there is

# Calculate the interval in seconds depending on the unit specified
if [ "${interval%s}" != "$interval" ] ; then
interval="${interval%s}"
elif [ "${interval%m}" != "$interval" ] ; then
interval="${interval%m}"
interval=$((interval*60))
elif [ "${interval%h}" != "$interval" ] ; then
interval="${interval%h}"
interval=$((interval*60*60))
else
interval="${interval%d}"
interval=$((interval*60*60*24))
fi

so, a variable might hold something like "1d", "100m", etc.

Yet in the first there is a condition

if [ "$interval" -eq 0 ]; then
debug_echo "check_stamp: interval=0"
# treat as no time has passed
return 1
fi

which treats the value as a number and leads to

/usr/lib/apt/apt.systemd.daily: 87: [: Illegal number: 20h

[Bug 1591411] Re: systemd-logind must be restarted every ~1000 SSH logins to prevent a ~25 second delay

2019-08-21 Thread Ioanna Alifieraki
@Nick

What symptoms do you observe? Delays when ssh?
Could you please share your reproducer or describe in which circumstances you
hit the bug?
Do you see any leaking scopes "ls -ld /run/systemd/transient/session-*.scope*" ?
Lastly what version of systemd do you run?

Thanks.

[Bug 1832622] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2019-08-21 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From mranw...@us.ibm.com 2019-08-21 18:53 EDT---
It was IBM bugzilla status, I'll move it all back.

I took a look at the new bugs - 180734 and 180735.  The first (180734) I
can recreate on my system if I do it exactly (or nearly so) as you do -
the status shows paused (postmigrate) and it's no longer responsive..
With my setup with more options it works fine for me. I have yet
figured out which option triggers the change for me.

When I use my original options and directly to qemu-system-ppc64 it doesn't
crash. It is an invalid migration - going from workaround to broken should
fail. I get a similar warning message when I try it - but then the source
remains active. Here's what I was originally using:
/usr/bin/qemu-system-ppc64le -m 20480 -smp
32,maxcpus=32,sockets=4,cores=8,threads=1 -object
memory-backend-ram,id=ram-node0,size=10737418240 -numa
node,nodeid=0,cpus=0-7,memdev=ram-node0 -object
memory-backend-ram,id=ram-node1,size=10737418240 -numa
node,nodeid=1,cpus=8-15,memdev=ram-node1 -realtime mlock=off -rtc base=utc
-no-shutdown -boot strict=on -msg timestamp=on -device
qemu-xhci,id=usb,bus=pci.0 -device spapr-vscsi,id=scsi0,reg=0x2000 -drive
file=/home/ubuntu/u1804-root.qcow2.snap0.radix0,format=qcow2,if=none,id=drive-virtio-disk0
 -device
virtio-blk-pci,scsi=off,bus=pci.0,drive=drive-virtio-disk0,id=virtio-disk0,bootindex=1,iommu_platform=off,disable-legacy=on
 -drive
file=/home/ubuntu/secondary.qcow2,format=qcow2,if=none,id=drive-virtio-disk1
-device
virtio-blk-pci,scsi=off,bus=pci.0,drive=drive-virtio-disk1,id=virtio-disk1
-drive if=none,id=drive-scsi0-0-0-0,readonly=on -device
scsi-cd,bus=scsi0.0,channel=0,scsi-id=0,lun=0,drive=drive-scsi0-0-0-0,id=scsi0-0-0-0
 -netdev user,id=hostnet0,hostfwd=tcp:127.0.0.1:-:22 -device
virtio-net-pci,netdev=hostnet0,id=net0,mac=52:54:00:66:32:28,bus=pci.0 -device
virtio-balloon-pci,id=balloon0,bus=pci.0 -monitor
unix:/tmp/mdroth-vm0-hmp.sock,server,nowait -nographic -vnc none -L
/usr/share/qemu/ -machine
pseries-bionic-sxxm,accel=kvm,usb=off,dump-guest-core=off,max-cpu-compat=power9,cap-ibs=workaround

The second (180735) is a feature request.

It seems like we should move forward with the SRU now and fix bug 180734
as there becomes a fix available - it doesn't look like there is one
now.

Suraj/Satheesh - you agree?

[Bug 1794876] Re: Touchpad doesn't work out-of-the-box in Ubuntu 18.04.1 with ThinkPad X1 carbon

2019-08-21 Thread Alex Dehnert
This impacted me as well (X1 Carbon Gen 6, 5.0.0-25-generic
#26~18.04.1-Ubuntu) . Un-blacklisting the module (and update-
initramfs'ing) seems to have worked. Previously my touchpad was *highly*
inconsistent and the Trackpoint either didn't work as well or I just
never noticed it working; now both seem fine.

[Bug 1840975] Re: Gimp 2.10.12 crash - deleted an empty transparent layer

2019-08-21 Thread Erich Eickmeyer
Thank you for reporting this bug. However, this was not filed using the
"ubuntu-bug" tool, therefore this bug does not contain any hints about
hardware, or any
other necessary information. Therefore, this bug is invalid. Please
report bugs by opening a terminal and typing "ubuntu-bug {packagename}"
in the future.

If this was reported via any process requested by the GIMP developers,
please report the bug upstream at gimp.org, not here. Again, thank you.
