[Bug 1767299] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 Installer creates swap partition too small

2019-09-17 Thread phanky5
This is a major problem. I am now forced to do a full reinstall with
proper swap allocation. This will set me back at least 1 full business
day until I synced all my files again. There are not many common users
out there who will go to that extend just to move over to Ubuntu.

If there is any solution to easily resize the swap partition on LUKS/
LVM instructions would be greatly appreciated.

[Bug 1844455] Re: Memory leak on libvirt 1.3.1

2019-09-17 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi,
thanks for the report and your work on it.
Are you sure those issues are not happening on newer versions?

Because
a) if they are fixed in newer versions then I'd ask you to backport the
respective fixes from there (can be partial if they were bigger reworks, but
always better than starting from scratch).
b) if they are not fixed in newer versions we should address and fix those as
well (For SRU policy and long term viability)

So after your further analysis of the case give the new versions a check
in that regard please.

[Bug 1844357] Re: arm has no default machine type

2019-09-17 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
I agree to the low regression potential of this as anyone using a
cmdline that would be affected today gets an immediate failure by a
missing type. So I'm fine to consider adding this along some other SRU.

But I'd only do so if upstream qemu-arm can agree on it, thanks for
sending it there already.

** Description changed:

  [impact]

The qemu-system-* binaries for most archs have a default machine type,
meaning no --machine needs to be specified. This is extremely useful
for situations running qemu on multiple archs in a common way, for
  example what systemd's self-testing does.

On arm archs, there is no default, so --machine must be specified. It
would be better (i.e. qemu users would not need to include arch-specific
qemu parameters) if there was a default machine for arm.

  [test case]

install qemu-system-arm, and try to run qemu without any --machine
  specified.

- Also, this command will show if there is any default machine defined:
+ Also, this command will show if there isn't any default machine defined
+ (unless fixed):

  $ qemu-system-aarch64 -M ? | grep default

  [regression potential]

since no default is currently defined, all users of qemu-system-aarch64
or qemu-system-arm must currently define a machine type. This change
would (should) not have any effect on them, since it only sets a default
machine type for use when -M is not specified.

  [other info]

I'm preparing a patch to send upstream and will add the link once sent.

[Bug 1840872] Re: ISST-LTE:KVM:Ubuntu1804:BostonLC:boslcp3g5: libvirt fails to check for duplicate address in hotplug xml and causes the guest to go to shutoff state

2019-09-17 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi, as I was asked on IRC lets clarify things here about when to expect the
Bionic portion to be released.
The Bionic part of this is in proposed only for 5 days. Both bugs affected by
it are verified, that means per [1] that we'd need at least 2 more days in
proposed and then one of the SRU Team members picking it up for the final
release.

Since there is a sprint going on atm, I'd more expect early next week
than late friday (which is when the 7 days are fulfilled)

[Bug 1807056] Re: Occasional Keyboard freeze

2019-09-17 Thread Dilip
The behaviour has changed recently. When the freeze occurs, whatever we
type goes to the dash search. It is visible only when we click the 3x3
icon and visualize the dash search panel. Earlier, whatever we type was
disappears altogether. ie, when the freeze occurs and I continue to
type, it is nowhere to be seen. But when we take dash search panel to
unfreeze it, we can see what we typed after the freeze in the search
box. Hope I explained properly.

[Bug 1844474] [NEW] Update 18.4.3LTS missing network service

2019-09-17 Thread GEORGE ROBERT HAYES
Public bug reported:

Ran an update as I have now for years with no prior issues.
Seems to go normal. However no connection to network.
Check netplan still has information under etc/netplan/...
I checked that because restart services says networking doesn't exist.
Can't even resolve a domain or anything or ping.

If there is one service that should be guaranteed not to be broken by an
update its networking especially today when most updates are done over
the network. If this server wasn't located on my own property i would
have to visit the datacenter to deal with the issue.

This should never be an issue.

[Bug 1844467] Re: Ubuntu now does not restart after being suspended.

2019-09-17 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Examining the information you have given us (esp. "will I have to re-
install"), this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it
and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We understand
the difficulties you are facing, but it is better to raise problems you
are having in the support tracker at
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are
bugs.

You can also find help with your problem in the support forum of your
local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at
https://askubuntu.com or https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support
options please look at https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-
support/709

For help on reporting bugs, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 1844468] [NEW] Error de instalacion de grub-amd-64-signed in /target/

2019-09-17 Thread Fernando Challco
Public bug reported:

I have a partition of HDD and Windows 8.1 with MBR, and I created a live ubuntu
19.04 usb in MBR mode through rufus, the installer forced me to create the EFI
partition, I tried the boot repair and when rebooting the same black screen
appears with a line of information that says
"System BootOrder not found. Initializing defaults."
a few seconds and ubuntu starts, for more than reinstalling and updating grub
dendro of the Operating System as in the Live usb, I cannot access Windows
again and neither does the grub appear at the beginning. Any recommendations to
recover the Grub?
This is my partition system.

[Bug 1844467] [NEW] Ubuntu now does not restart after being suspended.

2019-09-17 Thread Louis Peutzen
Public bug reported:

When I installed UNBUNTU and was suspending my computer, it came back. Now he
won't call again after I have suspended him. I had some problems with this
installation due to intermittent hardware issues (power supply and bad contact
on SATA hard drive connection). Will I have to reinstall Unbuntu 18.04 ?!
Note: This text was translated from the original in Portuguese (below) in
google translator.

Quando instalei o UNBUNTU e suspendia meu computador, ele voltava. Agora ele
não liga novamente após eu o ter suspendido. Tive alguns problemas com essa
instalação por problemas intermitentes com o hardware (fonte de alimentação e
mal contato na conexão SATA do HD ). Terei de reinstalar o Unbuntu 18.04 ?!

[Bug 1844443] Re: Version check wrapper scripts for e.g. perf packaged in linux-tools-common prevent usage in a Docker container e.g. on Kubernetes

2019-09-17 Thread Adam Novak
There's not really an applicable Ubuntu kernel to collect logs for; the
problem is only apparent in a container on top of a host that doesn't
run a recognized kernel.

[Bug 1844464] [NEW] [FFe] Include catfish 1.4.10 in eoan (xubuntu, ubuntu-budgie, ubuntu-studio)

2019-09-17 Thread Sean Davis
Public bug reported:

Catfish 1.4.10 introduces a number of usability and performance improvements
over 1.4.8.
https://bluesabre.org/2019/09/13/catfish-1-4-10-released/

In particular, this release includes the following nice-to-haves:
- Preferences dialog, which exposes the previously hidden window layout options.
- Custom exclude directories, allowing users to ignore particular directories
to improve their search results. Examples include backup folders or music
libraries.
- Improved support for the path exclusions added in 1.4.3 and 1.4.6 (Debian
#926850)
- Support for searching symbolic links.

Catfish is shipped in Xubuntu, Ubuntu Budgie, and Ubuntu Studio.

== Build Logs ==
Debian unstable:
https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=catfish&arch=all&ver=1.4.10-1&stamp=1568715012&raw=0

== Testing ==
I've tested installing and running Catfish in eoan, with no issues to report.

2019-09-17 Thread paul
my scanner = Canoscan LiDE 100
couldn't use this scanner on 18.04 at all without getting a thick black line in
the output.
not a massive issue so far as it still worked ok on a 16.04 machine we've got.
After checking back into this conversation today i tried to scan again on
18.04, issue was not resolved but then i tried the ppa mentoned above in
comment #77
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:rolfbensch/sane-git
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
tried again and bingo! black line has gone.
Thank you to everyone involved!

Hi,

from https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wine/+bug/1817244 and
followup reading at winehq I learned that several gstreamer plugins are
required for some media, but the Debian packages don't install them.

In this specific case I couldn't reproduce the issue as long as
libmpg123-0:i386 was installed. But I assume current Wine still
generally needs them!? Please comment.

Unless you have some other input, I'm going to fix this in the
debian.org packages, and suggest you do something similar in the winehq
-i386 and -amd64 packages:

Recommends:
 gstreamer1.0-libav,
 gstreamer1.0-plugins-good,
 gstreamer1.0-plugins-ugly,

This works on Debian unstable.

gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad still has non multi-arch'd dependencies. I'll
try to get those fixed.

I assume some other distros don't support multi-arch for the previous 3
packages, so you might have to add this conditionally.

Also some distros might still use gstreamer 0.10.

Greets!

In some specific cases libmpg123 alone can be used, but in general this
isn't enough, no. Various applications need different codecs, some of
which are available in -good, some in -bad, some in -ugly.

Finally fixing gstreamer multiarch for Debian would be hugely welcome.

I don't know why the OBS packages don't depend on/recommend these
gstreamer plugins, but it's probably best that they do. Possibly because
they aren't multiarch-compatible.

Thanks! Can you also comment on "gstreamer1.0-libav"?

I'm quite sure there is no technical reason, at least for Debian
unstable, today. But in the past there were probably too many issues,
and maintainers got used to it being not fixable.

Further, contrary to most other dependencies, there is no way to
automatically generate a list of needed gstreamer plugins.

I'm less sure about this one, but I think it's similarly necessary for
some codecs; in particular WMA/WMV comes to mind.

For what it's worth, I think it would be possible without too much
difficulty to compile by hand a list of formats that Windows supports
natively; we don't strictly need to provide any others for the purposes
of emulation. (On the other hand, some applications that use quartz are
generic media players, and a user may want to be able to play, say, Ogg
audio, which I don't think Windows supports, using a win32 media player.
But then maybe it's their responsibility to install the GStreamer
plugins that they need.)

[Bug 1844453] Re: [upstream] Access to the Google remote account does not work

2019-09-17 Thread Marcus Tomlinson
Hi Emanuele, sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. With a project
as large and complex as LibreOffice, relatively low-impact bugs like
this do unfortunately get bumped repeatedly for higher priority ones.

All we can do really is what you have done - poke upstream now and then
and hope they can find some time.

I found it working on standard (e.g. not 2FA) account.
Unfortunately not working on a 2FA enabled account.
Strangely Google sent me always the same PIN code.

Until a few days ago 2FA worked, with the same LO version.
I think Google changed again the login page.

Unfortunately I don't have time to look into the matter ATM, it will be
necessary to fix something in libcmis I think.

Have experienced the same "Error saving the document : The

5.2.0.4 is that we are now being requested the PIN. But once we enter
that, the result remains the same as in the screenshot attached.

I have installed the 64 bit version 5.2.2.2

When attempting to connect to google drive I get a dialogue asking me
for a PIN from my account There is a small dialgoue with a G- in front
of the data entry box.

What pops up on my phone is a wholly different dialogue, asking me to
tap on one of 3 numbers that are displayed on the login attempt. They
aren't.

So LibreOffice is asking for a number that is not displayed on the
phone, and the phone is asking for a number that is not displayed by
LibreOffice. SOme mistake there, I feel.

[Bug 1842437] Re: Xenial: libblkid: fix false-positive/misdetection of nilfs2 filesystem with udev

2019-09-17 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
The problem is reproducible in the sbuild-launchpad-chroot for xenial/amd64,
using the source package for util-linux currently in xenial-updates
(i.e., no regression from debdiff, as expected since changes/error are
unrelated)

The minimal command-line for that is:

$ /build/util-linux-kzgHhT/util-linux-2.27.1/script -c echo Hallo World
/dev/null /build/util-linux-kzgHhT/util-
linux-2.27.1/tests/output/script/buffering-race

script: openpty failed: No such file or directory
Terminated

There was a suspicion about the kernel version difference/regression (4.4.0-159
and -161),
but that's was not the root cause of the issue.

Looking into other areas.

[Bug 1844458] [NEW] Drop transitional flashplugin-downloader package

2019-09-17 Thread Bryan Quigley
Public bug reported:

I think the transition is done. It's in 16.04-19.10 as a transitional
package.

Found this because it made this list: https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t

I don't want anyone thinking that 32-bit Flash is supported on Linux.

Happy to make a debdiff (or if you point me at where the code is - the
code here seems out of date) to make a PR.

[Bug 1844455] Re: Memory leak on libvirt 1.3.1

2019-09-17 Thread Guilherme G. Piccoli
Leak #2:

==21823==385 (280 direct, 105 indirect) bytes in 1 blocks are definitely
lost in loss record 88 of 106
==21823==at 0x4C2CC70: calloc (in

==21823==by 0x50A5299: virAlloc (viralloc.c:144)
==21823==by 0x14B185: daemonConfigNew (libvirtd-config.c:242)

This one is similar to the previous one, it's likely struct daemonConfig is
leaked.
This structure is allocated in daemonNew and freed by daemonConfigFree(), at
the end
of libvirtd main() function. The hypothesis here again is that we had either a
process
killed or we should correctly terminate Valgrind in order it collects the free
calls for this object.

I've checked the code in libxml2, and what is leaking is the struct
_xmlGlobalState,
in function xmlNewGlobalState(), called from xmlGetGlobalState() - this is part
of thread orchestration mechanism in libxml. Using pahole I could check the
struct
size, and it matches:

$ pahole --hex -C _xmlGlobalState | grep size
/* size: 968, cachelines: 16, members: 33 */

The struct is freed in xmlFreeGlobalState(), when thread exits. This is again a
case
when there's a cleanup routine that seems to be skipped; we need to understand
really
if the process is being killed without having chance to run these cleanups.

I'm preparing a test package to validate the cleanups execution.

[Bug 1844455] Re: Memory leak on libvirt 1.3.1

2019-09-17 Thread Guilherme G. Piccoli
Leak #1:

==12891==80 bytes in 1 blocks are definitely lost in loss record 949 of
1,360
==12891==at 0x4C2CC70: calloc (in

==12891==by 0x51B786C: virConnectOpen (libvirt.c:1139)

>From pahole:

struct _virError {
intcode; /* 0 0x4 */
intdomain; /* 0x4 0x4 */
char * message; /* 0x8 0x8 */
virErrorLevel level;/* 0x10 0x4 */

/* XXX 4 bytes hole, try to pack */

virConnectPtr conn; /* 0x18 0x8 */
virDomainPtr dom; /* 0x20 0x8 */
char * str1; /* 0x28 0x8 */
char * str2; /* 0x30 0x8 */
char * str3; /* 0x38 0x8 */
/* --- cacheline 1 boundary (64 bytes) --- */
intint1; /* 0x40 0x4 */
intint2; /* 0x44 0x4 */
virNetworkPtr net; /* 0x48 0x8 */

/* size: 80, cachelines: 2, members: 12 */
/* sum members: 76, holes: 1, sum holes: 4 */
/* last cacheline: 16 bytes */
};

The _virError struct (in the form of virErrorPtr typedef) is expected to be
freed
in virLastErrFreeData(), which is a thread "destructor" set in the pthread
creation. It should be called when thread exists (by pthread_exit() or something
analog), but can be skipped if process main() function returns.
So, hypothesis here are:

1) There was a process exist that led to this thread data getting leaked
2) Valgrind should be ended (with SIGTERM) in order to collect the thread
destructor execution, so this is a false/temporary leak.

[Bug 1844455] [NEW] Memory leak on libvirt 1.3.1

2019-09-17 Thread Guilherme G. Piccoli
Public bug reported:

It was reported that libvirt 1.3.1 running on Trusty (through
UCA/Mitaka) is getting OOM'ed after a while - in our reports took 2
years for the leak to trigger an out-of-memory situation, but this may
change according to the user available memory.

Valgrind was executed in a similar environment, we were able to collect
information about the "definitely lost" memory of libvirt process
(attached) below.

The leaks are detailed in next comments.

** Affects: libvirt (Ubuntu)
 Importance: High
