[Bug 1846857] [NEW] After upgrading to kernel 5.0.0-31-generic:amd64, click with one finger and drag with the other doesn't work on the touchpad.

2019-10-04 Thread Rob Frohne
Public bug reported:

I just upgraded to linux kernel 5.0.0-31. When I use the trackpad on my
Lenovo Yoga 260 to click with one finger, and drag with another, it
doesn't move the thing I'm trying to drag. If I use one finger, it
works fine, but its hard to drag it far with only one finger, because I
can't pick the finger up and move it back to drag some more. I went and
booted from 5.0.0-29, and everything is fine again. I'm back to
5.0.0-31 and the problem is back.

[Bug 1846842] Re: the upgrade tool from 19.04 to 19.10 failed badly

2019-10-04 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you again for taking the time to report this bug, plus the time
taken to provide extra details in your efforts to help make Ubuntu
better.

Can I please ask you to provide another detail; specs about your machine
using apport-collect. Please execute the following command (on the box
the upgrade was performed on) only once, and it will automatically
gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1846842

When reporting bugs, please try and use apport by using 'ubuntu-bug' and
the name of the package affected. This step provides the details that
process would have provided.

Thanks again for your time in helping make Ubuntu better.

[Bug 1846842] Re: the upgrade tool from 19.04 to 19.10 failed badly

2019-10-04 Thread Grizzly(Francis Smit)
I have determined the the package was the ubuntu-release-upgrader

also if you read what I wrote properly you would see that there were no
messages: the entirety of gnome-shell was stuffed by the faulty upgrade,
all I had was a blank screen.

Fortunately I was able to login by ssh from my good machine and fix things on
the command line.
ok to format the data the way you want it.

1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter
the problem.

I ran update-manager -d on a ubuntu 19.04 box and followed the
steps, there were some problems, in short the buttons of the upgrader
did not respond to the mouse, I used tab and enter to solve this.

2. The behavior you expected.

I expected the upgrader to cleanly upgrade my system.

3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as
possible).

The screen locked some way into the upgrade, I found it like this
during the night, I attempted to unlock it and after some time I was
confronted with a blank screen.

So I loggedin from my good machine by ssh, I found that the release
upgrader was still running but doing nothing as far as I could tell, I
gave it an hour, still nothing so I killed it using "sudo kill -1 pid1
pid2"; where pid1 was the pid of the of the python program doing the
upgrade and pid2 was a shell wrapper for it I think, I obtained these
pid's from "pgrep --full --list-full upgrade".

Then I rebooted the box with sudo shutdown -r +1 , when it came up again
I still had a broken box so I sshed in again, ran "sudo apt upgrade"
this failed but told me to run "dpkg --configure -a" as there was
stuffed messed up with the package system, (I forget it's exact words)
so I ran "sudo dpkg --configure -a" it installed many many packages
between 4000 and 5000 I think it exited cleanly but things still were
not right, I could login graphically again but gnome shell was still at
version 3.32.2 not 3.34 and some of the plugins were not working, so I
ran "update-manager -d &" again and it gave me a partial upgrader, but
that did not work.

So I ran "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" that cleaned up some stuff and
deleted one package at least. then I ran update-manager and it pulled
down many more packages and fixed the system.

After all that I seam to be on a clean copy of 19.10:

$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu Eoan Ermine (development branch)
Release:19.10
Codename: eoan

obviously this needs looking into before 19.10 proper comes out

Essentially, it seems like when logging in under Wayland, the system
remembers the status of the numlock LED, BUT it always starts the system
with the numlock functionality disabled. This is why the LED is out of
sync if it's on when logging on, but not if it's off when logging in.

[Bug 1846249] Re: Num lock works in reverse on Ubuntu 19.10 wayland

2019-10-04 Thread Bickhaus
When I am logged into an X session (and therefore not experiencing the
issue), the output of gsettings list-recursively | grep -e numlock is
this when the numlock led is off and the numbers don't work:

org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.keyboard remember-numlock-state true
org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.keyboard numlock-state false

When numlock is on and the numbers work:

org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.keyboard remember-numlock-state true
org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.keyboard numlock-state true

[Bug 1846853] [NEW] Mouse scroll should control VOLUME NOT TIME

2019-10-04 Thread Anonymous
Public bug reported:

I want the mouse scroll to scroll the volume up and down, not the time
forward and back. This is a non-standard behavior that I consider to be
a BUG within Totem, and I preferentially use VNC because of this BUG.

Fix it so mouse scroll controls volume instead of time please.

[Bug 1846842] Re: the upgrade tool from 19.04 to 19.10 failed badly

2019-10-04 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description
didn't include enough information. It actually reads like you wanted
the chance to complain, where bug reports are not the appropriate place
in my opinion.

You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:

1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

I've marked this bug as incomplete, as it contains no actual messages,
or details of problems (packages), or specifics. If you believe I'm in
error, please feel free to leave a comment as to why, or even better
provide the specific details as to problems (apport or details from
logs) and you can change status back to "New".

[Bug 1838555] Re: nvme-cli 1.5 in Bionic does not support Micron NVME drives

2019-10-04 Thread Dave Chiluk
@slashd ,

Reading through the patch, it's exactly as @mruffell says it is. It's
sequestered into a code path that only exists for micron drives. A code
path which previously did not exist. This satisfies the intro, and the
first three bullet points of Other_safe_cases. This patch is upstream
and AFAICT from git log and comparing of the enablement patch and the
file on master of the public project micron-nvme.c has not changed in
any consequential way.

IMHO. there should be no issue with pushing this in as an SRU into
bionic, and does significantly improve the user experience for those
with Micron drives. This simultaneously has little to no impact on
other users.

[Bug 1846842] Re: the upgrade tool from 19.04 to 19.10 failed badly

2019-10-04 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1846842/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you

It seem the event is called in wrong time, is it possible call the event only
after user has given new name for the file?

Well right now xfdesktop doesn't have code to display the rename dialog.
The good news is it's not hard, it's just a matter of adding it in.

** Description changed:

  [Impact]

Any instances launched with bridges or bonds in their network
configuration will fail to bring up networking.

  [Test Case]
  # Juju bootstrap on maas of a machine sets up a network bridge that triggers
a failure in cloud-init init stage.
  # This results in a maas machine deployment failure and the machine gets
released

  Procedure:

  # Alternate steps on a maas machine with a bridge already created
A1. confirm a bridge interface is configured for the target machine on
interface eno1, name it broam, attach it to a subnet and select auto-assign for
IP
- A2. click deploy -> bionic
+ A2. click deploy -> bionic
A3. Once manual deployment fails go to step 2 below

  # Alternative 2 juju bootstrap failure on maas
  B1: juju bootrap mymaas --no-gui
- B2: Once bootstrap fails go to step 2
+ B2: Once bootstrap fails go to step 2

  2. After deployment failure and machine is powered off click on the
failed/released node in the MAAS UI
  3. Click Rescue Mode from the 'Take Action' drop down in the MAAS UI
  4. Grab the IP from the interfaces tab
  5. ssh ubuntu@ -- cloud-init status --long
  # Expect failure message
  6. Click Exit Rescue Mode on the node in MAAS UI.

  7. ssh to the maas server add the following lines to
/etc/maas/preseeds/curtin_userdata to test official *-proposed packages:

  system_upgrade: {enabled: True}
  apt:
    sources:
  proposed.list:
source: deb $MIRROR $RELEASE-proposed main universe # upstream
-proposed

  8. Repeat step 1 and expect bootstrap success
  # expect to see MAASDatasource from bootstrapped machine and no errors
  9. juju ssh 0 -- cloud-init status --long
+
+

  [Regression Potential]

The change being SRU'd adds more conditions to an existing conditional.
There is potential to regress the cases that the existing conditional
was introduced to cover, so we will be testing those specifically.
Other than that, there was some minor refactoring of the existing
conditional statement (which did not change the logic it checks), which
could cause issues for Oracle netfailover interfaces. We will also
  specifically test on Oracle.

  [Original Report]

  Symptoms

After deployment of Ubuntu Bionic image on MAAS provider (deploying to a
bare metal server) juju cannot access any deployed machine due to
missing SSH keys and machines are stuck in pending state:

  $ juju ssh 0
ERROR retrieving SSH host keys for "0": keys not found

  $ juju machines
Machine StateDNSInst id Series AZ Message
  0pending 172.20.10.125 block-3 bionic AZ3 Deployed
  1pending 172.20.10.124 block-2 bionic AZ2 Deployed

  5pending 172.20.10.129 object-3 bionic AZ3 Deployed

It worth mentioning that pods can be successfully deployed with MAAS,
  only bare metal deployment fails.

We checked different bionic images: cloud-init 19.2.24 works, and cloud-
  init 19.2.36 doesn't.

A1. confirm a bridge interface is configured for the target machine on
interface eno1, name it broam, attach it to a subnet and select auto-assign for
IP
  A2. click deploy -> bionic
A3. Once manual deployment fails go to step 2 below

  # Alternative 2 juju bootstrap failure on maas
  B1: juju bootrap mymaas --no-gui
B2: Once bootstrap fails go to step 2

  2. After deployment failure and machine is powered off click on the
failed/released node in the MAAS UI
  3. Click Rescue Mode from the 'Take Action' drop down in the MAAS UI
  4. Grab the IP from the interfaces tab
  5. ssh ubuntu@ -- cloud-init status --long
  # Expect failure message
  6. Click Exit Rescue Mode on the node in MAAS UI.

  7. ssh to the maas server add the following lines to
/etc/maas/preseeds/curtin_userdata to test official *-proposed packages:

  system_upgrade: {enabled: True}
  apt:
    sources:
  proposed.list:
source: deb $MIRROR $RELEASE-proposed main universe # upstream
-proposed

  8. Repeat step 1 and expect bootstrap success
  # expect to see MAASDatasource from bootstrapped machine and no errors
  9. juju ssh 0 -- cloud-init status --long

[Bug 1846844] [NEW] Procps: top -b does not display the correct CPU percentages

2019-10-04 Thread Simon Tideswell
Public bug reported:

Affects: 2:3.3.12-3ubuntu1.2 (bionic) & 2:3.3.10-4ubuntu2.4 (xenial)

If I run 'top -b -n 1' the CPU percentages are the same every single
time. If I run with more iterations the CPU percentages of subsequent
iterations update in real time. If I run top interactively then the CPU
percentages correctly update in real time. Here's an example.

1) With n=1 the same CPU percentages are always displayed.

while true ; do top -b -n 1 | grep -E "^%Cpu" ; sleep 10; done
%Cpu(s): 46.1 us, 4.1 sy, 0.2 ni, 48.1 id, 0.2 wa, 0.0 hi, 1.2 si, 0.0 st
%Cpu(s): 46.1 us, 4.1 sy, 0.2 ni, 48.1 id, 0.2 wa, 0.0 hi, 1.2 si, 0.0 st
%Cpu(s): 46.1 us, 4.1 sy, 0.2 ni, 48.1 id, 0.2 wa, 0.0 hi, 1.2 si, 0.0 st
%Cpu(s): 46.1 us, 4.1 sy, 0.2 ni, 48.1 id, 0.2 wa, 0.0 hi, 1.2 si, 0.0 st
%Cpu(s): 46.1 us, 4.1 sy, 0.2 ni, 48.1 id, 0.2 wa, 0.0 hi, 1.2 si, 0.0 st
%Cpu(s): 46.1 us, 4.1 sy, 0.2 ni, 48.1 id, 0.2 wa, 0.0 hi, 1.2 si, 0.0 st
%Cpu(s): 46.1 us, 4.1 sy, 0.2 ni, 48.1 id, 0.2 wa, 0.0 hi, 1.2 si, 0.0 st
%Cpu(s): 46.1 us, 4.1 sy, 0.2 ni, 48.1 id, 0.2 wa, 0.0 hi, 1.2 si, 0.0 st
%Cpu(s): 46.1 us, 4.1 sy, 0.2 ni, 48.1 id, 0.2 wa, 0.0 hi, 1.2 si, 0.0 st

2) With n=2 the second iteration shows a changing CPU percentage, but
the first is still clearly wrong.

while true ; do top -b -n 2 | grep -E "^%Cpu" ; sleep 10; done
%Cpu(s): 46.1 us, 4.1 sy, 0.2 ni, 48.1 id, 0.2 wa, 0.0 hi, 1.2 si, 0.0 st
%Cpu(s): 27.3 us, 1.7 sy, 0.0 ni, 70.5 id, 0.0 wa, 0.0 hi, 0.4 si, 0.0 st
%Cpu(s): 46.1 us, 4.1 sy, 0.2 ni, 48.1 id, 0.2 wa, 0.0 hi, 1.2 si, 0.0 st
%Cpu(s): 50.9 us, 5.4 sy, 0.0 ni, 42.2 id, 0.1 wa, 0.0 hi, 1.4 si, 0.0 st
%Cpu(s): 46.1 us, 4.1 sy, 0.2 ni, 48.1 id, 0.2 wa, 0.0 hi, 1.2 si, 0.0 st
%Cpu(s): 63.3 us, 5.2 sy, 0.0 ni, 29.2 id, 0.1 wa, 0.0 hi, 2.2 si, 0.0 st
%Cpu(s): 46.1 us, 4.1 sy, 0.2 ni, 48.1 id, 0.2 wa, 0.0 hi, 1.2 si, 0.0 st
%Cpu(s): 43.3 us, 2.9 sy, 0.0 ni, 52.4 id, 0.1 wa, 0.0 hi, 1.2 si, 0.0 st
%Cpu(s): 46.1 us, 4.1 sy, 0.2 ni, 48.1 id, 0.2 wa, 0.0 hi, 1.2 si, 0.0 st
%Cpu(s): 38.0 us, 3.7 sy, 0.0 ni, 56.8 id, 0.2 wa, 0.0 hi, 1.4 si, 0.0 st
%Cpu(s): 46.1 us, 4.1 sy, 0.2 ni, 48.1 id, 0.2 wa, 0.0 hi, 1.2 si, 0.0 st
%Cpu(s): 47.9 us, 3.5 sy, 0.0 ni, 47.2 id, 0.1 wa, 0.0 hi, 1.2 si, 0.0 st

This affects both Xenial and Bionic.

[Bug 1846842] [NEW] the upgrade tool from 19.04 to 19.10 failed badly

2019-10-04 Thread Grizzly(Francis Smit)
Public bug reported:

I upgraded my old crappy box to 19.10 beta from 19.04, things did not go
well the upgrade tool eoan it did not run well I could not get many of
the buttons to work by clicking I had to use tab and enter, then the
thing that's supposed stop it locking fail while I was asleep; woke up
it was locked, and when I tried to unlock it I just got a blank screen.

I had to ssh in to it find out what was going on I found it was stuck I
gave it an hour to come out of it, it didn't, so I killed the processes
with sudo kill -1 pid-of-the-python-program pid-of-the-shell-script then
I rebooted it by sudo shutdown, and ssh in again and it was still sick
and half done, so I called sudo apt upgrade, which didn't work but gave
me the dpkg (sudo dpkg --configure -a) command to use, I ran that and it
cleaned it up a lot, and I was able to login to gnome-shell it was still
on version 3.32.2 and was a little messed up but worked, I tried the
update-manager -d &, that gave me a partial upgrade program which
failed, in the end, I fixed it with sudo apt-get dist-upgrade and
running the normal update-manager program till every thing was up to
date, now it's fine but it took much drama to do it

to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in

[Bug 1846535] Re: cloud-init 19.2.36 fails with python exception "Not all expected physical devices present ..." during bionic image deployment from MAAS

2019-10-04 Thread David Coronel
@darmadoo: The cloud-init package is baked into the cloud images that
MAAS uses to deploy instances. You have to wait for the next cloud image
that will contain this fixed cloud-init, or you can use the workaround
in my comment #16 to use a previous image in the meantime.

[Bug 1846837] Re: totem-video-thumbnailer in Ubuntu 19.10 is currently broken on aarch64

2019-10-04 Thread RussianNeuroMancer
I added gcc-9 and ffmpeg to related packages because if search
"libgomp.so.1: cannot allocate memory in static TLS block" in Google you
will find this issue starting to appear in different program this years
(such as Anaconda installer, OpenCV, PHP ImageMagick module) so I don't
think this issue is isolated to Totem. However, Totem is only program
where I can reliable reproduce this issue right now.

[Bug 1846837] [NEW] totem-video-thumbnailer in Ubuntu 19.10 is currently broken on aarch64

2019-10-04 Thread RussianNeuroMancer
Public bug reported:

Hello!

I found that totem-video-thumbnailer is broken on aarch64. It fail with
following error:

gnu/gstreamer-1.0/libgstlibav.so': /lib/aarch64-linux-gnu/libgomp.so.1:

I tried to rollback all related packages I could think of (totem, gcc-9,
ffmpeg) to previous releases, but for some reason this doesn't help. I
remember video thumbnail generation on aarch64 worked fine few weeks
ago.

I successfully verified the bionic fix on MAAS. Here's what I did:

1. deployed a machine with a bridge via maas
2. machine went to deployed mode, couldn't ssh in
3. switched to rescue mode, ssh'd in
4. mounted /, captured cloud-init-output.log with error:

5. I think enabled proposed via curtin_userdata and repeated, and ssh worked
and the error was gone: http://paste.ubuntu.com/p/gXVGmKvWHY/

[Bug 1735363] Re: inkscape: Port to Python 3

2019-10-04 Thread Mattia Rizzolo
I think that, apart from the build process, there is only this bit that
would need to be chnaged. So I'm currently doing this, but I'd love to
be able to specify that at build time (or for inkscape to detect it by
itself, as I suggested above):

[Bug 1837673] Re: Certbot will be unable to create new ACME accounts

2019-10-04 Thread Brad Warren
> Their py2 counterparts are of course available, but this means we
won't be producing python3-certbot packages, just python-certbot (if
0.27.0 works with py2, that is).

I personally think this is fine. We just have to make sure the "certbot"
package depends on and uses python-certbot rather than python3-certbot
in Xenial.

0.27.0 still works with Python 2.

[Bug 1837673] Re: Certbot will be unable to create new ACME accounts

2019-10-04 Thread Andreas Hasenack
There are other changes needed in the backport from cosmic.
Specifically, python3 support.

The xenial certbot packages are py2 currently, and not all py3
dependencies needed by the cosmic package are available in xenial. These
two are missing:

- python3-parsedatetime
- python3-repoze.sphinx.autointerface

Their py2 counterparts are of course available, but this means we won't
be producing python3-certbot packages, just python-certbot (if 0.27.0
works with py2, that is).
