The error message (attachment ERROR_MSG.png) showed that the installer tried to
label /dev/disk/by-id/wwn-nvme.xx. But the real path generated by udev is
showed in (REAL_PATH.png), we can see it's /dev/disk/by-id/nvme-nvme.x.
There must be something wrong with the installer or the udev rules in GOS.

Can confirm same issue here - also 16.04 x86_64 - also tried creating a
new (clean) profile, but that does not resolve the issue.

I've reverted off the beta/next ppa back to

reverting profiles isn't allowed

[Bug 1842037] Re: SUNRPC: Use after free when GSSD credentials are invalid causes oops

2019-10-29 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Hi Frank,

Great to hear that the respun test kernel solves your NFS issues.

I have submitted the patches to be included in the Ubuntu Bionic 5.0 HWE
kernel.

You can see the patches on the kernel mailing list if you are
interested:

Bug 1842037:

https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-team/2019-October/105115.html
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-team/2019-October/105116.html
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-team/2019-October/105117.html

Bug 1828978:

https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-team/2019-October/105113.html
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-team/2019-October/105114.html

The next step is for the kernel team to review the patches, and if they
receive two acks, they will be built into the next kernel update. From
there, the kernel team will build the update, and release it for testing
in -proposed. When the time comes, you will then need to verify that the
kernel in -proposes fixes your NFS problems. If all goes well, we will
mark this bug as verified and it will be released a week or so later.

To give you an idea of the timeframes, https://kernel.ubuntu.com/ shows
the next SRU cycle stops accepting commits on the 6th of November, the
test kernel will be built between the 11th and 15th, and we will need to
test the -proposed kernel between the 18th and 29th. If everything goes
well, the kernel will be released early December.

I will keep you informed as we progress to each stage, and I will let
you know when it is time to test the new update in -proposed.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Matthew

[Bug 1848585] Re: dpdk 18.11.2-4 ADT test failure with linux 5.4.0-1.2

2019-10-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package dpdk - 18.11.3-1

---
dpdk (18.11.3-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Merge stable update to 18.11.3; For a list of changes see
http://doc.dpdk.org/guides-18.11/rel_notes/release_18_11.html#id2
- refresh d/p/0004-build-bump-minimum-Meson-version-to-0.47.1.patch
- refresh d/p/avoid-as-needed-as-it-causes-overlinking.patch
- d/dpdk-dev.install: dpdk-test is now properly in usr/bin
- d/librte-security18.11.symbols: mark some symbols that now properly
are experimental as such (none is gone)
- among other things it fixes a dkms build issue with kernel 5.4

[Bug 1845046] Re: Bluetooth headphones/speaker default to low quality headset mode and fails to switch to A2DP when selected

2019-10-29 Thread Rob Frohne
I spent 45 minutes playing with this problem this morning. I restarted
my computer this morning, but nothing helped. Now, after work, where
the computer was in suspended, but not restarted, and used periodically,
and it works just fine. I did connect another headset to see if it was
a Sony problem, and now both headsets work as expected. I do know that
A2DP is deactivated if you select the microphone on the headset, but
this morning I switched that back and forth several times with no
effect. Fortunately, or unfortunately as it may be, I cannot now
duplicate the results I had this morning, and I can't figure out why.
It may have happened when I connected the headset to bluetooth again to
test this evening. I cannot remember if I disconnected the headset and
reconnected it this morning.

[Bug 1842037] Re: SUNRPC: Use after free when GSSD credentials are invalid causes oops

2019-10-29 Thread Matthew Ruffell
** Summary changed:

- Oops when Kerberos credentials are invalid
+ SUNRPC: Use after free when GSSD credentials are invalid causes oops

** Description changed:

- There's a bug in Linux Kernel 5.0 which is triggered by invalid
- credentials when the NFS clients is trying to aquire them via GSSD. This
- affects NFS-Shares that are protected by krb5* security. They become
- unusable until the system is re-booted. The problem is quite severe on
- terminal servers with multiple users - some of them not caring about
- refreshing their kerberos tickets.
+ BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1842037

- A fix is available here:
+ [Impact]

-

+ There is a use after free which normally causes a null pointer
+ dereference when NFS clients send invalid credentials via GSSD to a NFS
+ server which has shares protected by kerberos krb5* security.
+
+ The call trace is below:
+
+ BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0098

+
+ This then causes outages on a heavily trafficked NFS server and no one can
access their shares until the server is rebooted.
+
+ [Fix]
+
+ The fix comes in the following two commits:
+
+ commit cea57789e4081870ac3498fbefabbbd0d0fd8434
+ Author: Trond Myklebust
+ Date: Sat Mar 9 16:06:47 2019 -0500

+ Author: Trond Myklebust
+ Date: Wed May 29 12:49:52 2019 -0400
+ Subject: SUNRPC: Fix a use after free when a server rejects the RPCSEC_GSS
credential
+
+ There is a small subtlety to be addressed here.
+ 7987b694ade8cc465ce10fb3dceaa614f13ceaf3 is marked as "Fixes"
cea57789e4081870ac3498fbefabbbd0d0fd8434, and
cea57789e4081870ac3498fbefabbbd0d0fd8434 is not present in the disco kernel.
The code path which triggers the use after free can still be reached without
cea57789e4081870ac3498fbefabbbd0d0fd8434 being present, and applying both
commits resolves the problem, while still maintaining as little backporting as
necessary.
+
+ Please note, both commits have been backported.
+
+ cea57789e4081870ac3498fbefabbbd0d0fd8434 required a small change to the
+ final comment, as well as some minor context adjustments in the final
+ hunk.
+
+ 7987b694ade8cc465ce10fb3dceaa614f13ceaf3 required medium to heavy
+ backporting. The upstream patch uses a switch statement based on error
+ codes, while the disco kernel uses a goto and label type architecture.
+ The commits in the middle were numerous and completely unrelated, so I
+ backported the commit to use goto and labels. Please review this
+ backport a little more closely than you normally do, but it has been
+ tested, and I believe the code to be sound.
+
+ cea57789e4081870ac3498fbefabbbd0d0fd8434 landed in 5.1 upstream.
+ 7987b694ade8cc465ce10fb3dceaa614f13ceaf3 landed in 5.2 upstream.
+
+ 7987b694ade8cc465ce10fb3dceaa614f13ceaf3 was also selected for upstream
+ -stable, in 5.1.9, and was omitted from disco stable updates process,
+ probably because of the patch not cleanly applying and requiring the
+ backport and infrastructure provided in
+ cea57789e4081870ac3498fbefabbbd0d0fd8434.
+
+ [Testcase]
+
+ This is difficult to reproduce on test systems, and has instead been
+ verified on a production NFS v4.1 system in a customer environment. This
+ server is heavily trafficked and has a large number of different NFS
+ clients connected to it.
+
+ I have built a test kernel that contains the above patch, and also
+ patches for Bug 1828978. It is available here:
+
+ https://launchpad.net/~mruffell/+archive/ubuntu/sf241068-test
+
+ Note that the above kernel is for bionic HWE, and not explicitly disco.
+
+ Discussion about the patch validation can be found at the bottom of Bug
+ 1842037.
+
+ On unpatched kernels, expect to see the symptoms mentioned in Impact,
+ and on patched systems, everything working as intended.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ The changes are limited to users of sunrpc and the change itself is
+ limited to cases where the

I have Lenovo X1 Carbon laptop from 2014 with the following CPU:

Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3317U CPU @ 1.70GHz

lspci reports GPU as

I'm on Gentoo Linux with kernel 4.15.9-gentoo, xorg-server 1.19.5,

xf86-video-intel.

As my laptop has only mini displayport output, I'm trying to use DP-to-
HDMI/VGA/DVI converter I got from AliExpress. Sometimes when I plug in
the converter and enable the monitor with xrandr it works fine, but most
of the time I see the output in xrandr, but when I enable it, monitor
does not show anything.

I have this in dmesg:

I have a similar carbon and no real issues with any DP++ dongle I've

And the dongle itself is returning garbage when we try to access its
registers, so the problem is not limited to the ddc passthrough.

One thing you may want to try is slow down the i2c bus further. We use
100kHz by default, and you may want to try something like 10kHz instead.

[Bug 1850502] Re: Bluetooth disconnects intermittently on ubuntu 19.10 [RTL8822BE]

2019-10-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. Your log suggests problems with wifi (wlp2s0)
around the same time as bluetooth. This isn't surprising since both may
be sharing radio frequencies (~2.4GHz) and the same chip in your laptop.

To avoid these problems please either:

  * Turn off wifi and use ethernet; or

  * Avoid using multiple Bluetooth devices at once; or

  * Use only 5GHz wifi networks, not 2.4GHz; or

  * Install a different type of wifi card in the laptop.

[Bug 1849371] Re: [snap] Cannot run chromium as user www-data because home directory is /var/www

2019-10-29 Thread RichardNeill
The snap confinement also seems to create a number of other problems.
I've also observed:

* Webmail - if I receive an attachment of certain types (libreoffice is
broken; pdf is OK), then I get a "please confirm you want to allow
chromium to open this file" dialog every single time.

* password manager (save passwords) is broken - it won't remember
passwords I saved, nor does it remember my preference not to save the
passwords for web-development on localhost, but prompts every time.

* cross site logins are broken (sign into gmail for work, and other
sites that use that gmail auth just fail).

* some extensions break (e.g. the JSONViewer is silently-non-
functional.)

All of these are fixed if I download and unzip the binary from here:
https://download-chromium.appspot.com/ - though it sacrifices the entire point
of running a distro.

I understand the rationale for saving developer time, but this is really
broken for me and my company. If it would help, we'd happily be invoiced
£500 by the Ubuntu project if you could go back to the deb build - even
if you chose only to ship alternate releases.

[Bug 1850572] [NEW] AMD Prairie Falcon platform failed to boot up

2019-10-29 Thread AceLan Kao
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
AMD Prairie Falcon is the AME Embedded variant of Stoney. It fails to boot up
without disable its CGCG feature.
Set 'amdgpu.cg_mask=0xfffb' kernel parameter to disable CGCG

[Fix]
Suggestion from AMD that we have to cherry pick this commit which is included
in v4.16
fb4bbba27753 drm/amdgpu: re-enable CGCG on CZ and disable on ST

[Test]

[Regression Potential]
Low, this commit has been included for more than one and a half year in the
upstream, should be pretty safe to include it.

+ (e.g. `deb http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ disco main restricted`),
+ it works and the upgrade process proceeds normally.

It looks like ubuntu-release-upgrader does not recognize the
`mirrors://` URL format when the package sources from disco to eoan. As
a result during the upgrade process the sources list ends up almost
empty (only InRelease packages), and consequently the ubuntu-minimal
  package is not found.

[Bug 1849615]

2019-10-29 Thread Gabriele Svelto
Created attachment 9104623
Bug 1590984 - Use poll() instead of select() in WebRTC code r=drno

The use of select() was leading to crashes when the file descriptor value was
larger than FD_SETSIZE. Recent versions of glibc have checks in the FD_CLR(),
FD_SET() and FD_ISSET() macros that will abort() the program instead of doing
an out-of-bounds access. poll() doesn't have limitations on the file
descriptor values and provides behavior that is otherwise identical to
select() thus solving the problem.

[Bug 1803136] Re: [SRU] Update to vala 0.40.17 in bionic

2019-10-29 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Hello Rico, or anyone else affected,

Accepted vala into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vala/0.40.17-0ubuntu1
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

** Changed in: vala (Ubuntu Bionic)
   Status: Confirmed => Fix Committed

** Tags added: verification-needed verification-needed-bionic
